Why run from your troubles when you can fly instead? When Caity Shaw is fired from her first job that doesn’t require an elf uniform, her older sister, Rachel, an event planner, hires her to work a meeting in Dublin. Caity jumps at the opportunity to travel abroad and escape her pathetic life. However, even four thousand miles from home, there’s no avoiding debt collectors, an overbearing mother, … overbearing mother, and haunting memories of a controlling ex.
While in Dublin, Caity suffers a series of humiliating mishaps, causing her to lose even more faith in herself. Caity struggles to earn Rachel’s respect—and to keep Declan, her hot Irish coworker, at arm’s length. Declan repeatedly saves Caity’s butt and helps boost her self-confidence, making it difficult to keep her distance from the charming womanizer. When Declan helps her research her Irish grandmother, Caity discovers the mysterious past of the courageous woman she barely knew might hold the answers to her future.

I ordered the next book in the series as soon as I finished this one.
I don’t think I will ever forget this book. It wasn’t because it was the best book I’d ever read, but because of how the author was able to convey character emotion.
This is a book about Caity Shaw, a character I think a lot of people can relate to in varying degrees, and her start to recovering from a mentally abusive relationship. I felt Caity’s fear, nervousness, resignation, sense of pride, and more throughout different points in the story. The author has a way of dipping into aspects of Caity’s toxic relationship history, without delving too far, and then resurfacing with a bit of comic relief without making light of the subject. A writing strategy that I truly appreciated. All of this while weaving in the current happenings of Caity’s life.
I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it. I will be reading the second book of this series!
Cute and quirky. A nice easy read. It did leave me wanting to read some more about these characters.
I loved many aspects of this book! The characters are great, there are wonderful descriptions of the various settings including a castle, and the humor and wit of it kept me reading page after page.
Very good, I wanted to stay up to see what would happen next.
This was a cute story. I enjoyed the witty way it was written, however, I was disappointed it was not a full story – to be continued in the next book.
Charming and fun!
I loved this book! It was funny with wonderful characters, and the fact it was set in Ireland was such a bonus. It’s a fantastic book one to a wonderful series that I highly recommend!
Great book. It’s a about a girl who is pretty much a screw up, now working for her very uptight sister. But, miraculously what was beginning to look like another screw up it turned out alright. Fun story with the nice ending.
Great characters. Fun read! Good plot!
I read it before a trip to Ireland and thought about the main character a few times on my travels. It kept my interest and it was a fun and easy read
FLYING BY THE SEAT OF MY KNICKERS is an entertaining piece of fluffy chick-lit in the Sophie Kinsella style.
Caity suffers from a chronic lack of confidence because of her abusive and controlling ex. She attempts to rebuild her life by accepting a grudging job offer from her estranged sister. This leads to a move from the US to Dublin to work as an event planner’s assistant.
The author has great fun highlighting the differences between American and Irish culture. And, in Caity, has produced an engaging character who is struggling to find both herself and a purpose in life.
The book is packed with humour but doesn’t shy away from the after-effects of escaping a destructive relationship.
There is a hot Irish guy for Caity to fall for, but no bed-hopping, just a bubbling undercurrent of mutual attraction. The plot concentrates on Caity, who is not ready for a new man in her life. Not with frayed family ties and her low self-esteem to wrestle with.
This is the first in a series and can (almost) be read as a stand-alone. Don’t expect everything to be wrapped up by the end, but Caity emerges as a stronger person and capable of making important decisions. It’s up to you if you want to follow her next adventure…
a laugh out loud read!
Fun book set in Ireland
funny …& kind of sad.
Flying by the Seat of My Knickers – My first read by this author and I grew to like Caity. I found her a bit annoying but she shaped up pretty good. The other characters were good and worked out fine in their roles.
The storylines were interesting enough to keep me involved in the story, and after a while, I stopped taking breaks from reading. The title and Ireland, and the book cover, grabbed my attention, and I am glad I finished the book.
The storylines continue in another book, but this story is complete. 4*
Cute, easy reading
Cozy little story to keep you entertained and make you want to travel.
The characters were a HOOT in this book. So much so, I bought the 2nd book in the series and couldn’t put it down either!
Love this book – can’t wait to read another!! Caity, recovering from an emotionally abusive relationship, now working with her organized sister at an new and unfamiliar job. Her mistakes (could have easily been mine), her doubts of herself, trying to reconnect with her family, and- just maybe- the beginnings of a new relationship? Could not hardly put it down and look forward to reading another!
