Fly Bear, Rider Hendrix, is a decorated military pilot working with the Justice Squad. As dare devil and risk taker, Rider never thought he wanted a mate. Then a close call changes everything. He signs up on a shifter dating app and is instantly matched. Darcy Lane worked her way up from nothing to head chef at a top Denver restaurant. No matter how far she’s come, the insecurities of her past … her past run deeper than her freckled skin. When Darcy is matched with Fly Bear, she doesn’t think a man as hunky and as handsome as him could ever love a curvy, frizzy haired, ugly duckling like her.
When Rider is sent on an undercover mission to investigate hyena terrorists at the Denver Airport, it’s his chance to claim his fated mate. In the meantime, Darcy comes up with a plan to date Rider while never having to show her face. What could possibly go wrong?
Can Rider keep his head in the game and protect the airport from a deadly threat while navigating the turbulence of Darcy’s wounded heart? And will Darcy ever come to understand that the beauty Rider wants to see is what shines so brightly from within?

A risk taking daredevil undercover special ops bear has finally decided to find a mate, joins mate.com and at the same time is given a new assignment to prevent terrorists bombing a Colorado airport. A goal oriented chef with no love life is dissatisfied with her life follows her friends advice and joins mate.com. What could go wrong? Or what could go right? This book is that story. I enjoyed it.
Darcy grew up in foster “not caring” at all and has a bad self image of herself. When she signs up to Mate.com she never expected to be matched or loved by a shifter, so when she is matched to gorgeous Rider she hides from him but they both have secrets they have to face to get to their HEA. A hot and sweet story line.
Fly Bear, part 2 of Scarlett Grove’s Justice Squad is a good shifter read. The storyline is fast-paced, filled with danger, intrique, human insecurities and romance. The characters are well-developed and entertaining. Definitely worth the read!
Chalk another one up for Mate.com! I love these short and quirky stories. Ms. Grove has a wild imagination and knows just how to work it to keep you entertained. Her characters are intense enough to want to read more, but not so much that they scare you away.
I loved Rider and Darcy in this episode. They were perfect for each other, balancing each other out in just the right ways. And the adventures they came across! Yet another great read from this talented author.
I received a gifted copy of this book and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.
Well worth reading!
Darcy had such low esteem that when she found him on Mate.com she was terrified. Rider, on the other hand needed something to ground him in his personal life. Throw in the excitement of hyena shifter terrorists and we have an exciting and romantic story. The Justice Squad is becoming a great series.
Fly The Friendly Skies…
Captain Rider Hendrix aka Fly Bear a decorated pilot and member of the Justice Squad is all about taking very dangerous risks, but a near death experience made him realize that life isn’t getting longer and he wants to experience life’s pleasure of having a mate and children so he joins mate.com and very pleasantly surprised when he receives 100% match instantly. Problem is he doesn’t feel that certain zing when he sees her profile picture, sure he loves texting with her she is smart and witty, but her picture just doesn’t do him.
Darcy has always felt like the ugly duckling always being told that by her foster parent, never having learned to spruce up or date. She decides to join mate.com and is very pleasantly surprised when she is matched up 100% with the most gorgeous man she has ever seen. He wouldn’t want an ugly duckling like her, so she decides to put the fated mate theory to the test by asking her friend to play the part for her date…..It all backfires on Darcy and she feels the green monster coming to the surface.
Will Darcy take the leap and tell Rider the truth, or subject herself to a life of solitude with Mr. Whiskers?
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Darcy thinks of herself as the ugly duckling. ( Which is totally not true )
Rider is ready to claim his fated mate.
When the dating app matches him w/ Darcy, it is like his prayers have been answered.
Now, let the wooing begin !
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Sweet story of two people ready for love and finding it. Both are matched by mate.com, Shifter online dating site. A bit of danger thrown in by hyena terrorists. No cliffhanger and Hea.
I voluntarily received this arc in exchange for an honest opinion
i loved this story, while it is a quick read, it has plenty of action and romance. I have to admit i did love Riders character even though he was undercover he was still trying to be honest. And honest he was to a point with Darcy. She didnt see herself how he saw her, she was beautiful in his eyes for she was his mate. As for Darcy, she didnt think she looked anything special so when it came to getting a date and putting on a profile she used someone elses picture but soon learned that its better to be truthful when it comes to mates cause mates love you no matter how you look.
Theres much more than just their romance in this great story, one click to read more it really is worth it.
5 stars.
Darcy grew up in foster care, but she worked hard, and after high school she put herself through culinary school. She has a great job as a grill chef in the Denver airport. After a conversation with co-workers, in a moment of weakness, she sighs up on Mate.com. Rider is a member of the Justice squad, and an adrenaline junkie. After a close call while racing on his dirt bike, he decides to sign up on the Mate.com app.
Smart, and sexy characters in a book with action, suspense, and some interesting and unexpected twists in the plot. Fantastic book!
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
Lies, secrets, and hyena terrorists could ruin their chance at love. Rider Hendrix has always been a risk taker, but will he take a risk on love and join Mate.com to find his fated mate? Darcy believes herself to be plain, boring, and bordering on ugly. Can Rider convince her otherwise, and that a man like him could really love a girl like her? Or will her insecurities get in their way?
Rider is a bit of a danger chaser. That is until the danger about takes him out. Maybe his job with the Justice Squad will have to provide enough for him. He’s never thought about settling down–until now. Mate.com might just be an idea even though some of his teammates have been waiting for their mate for a long time.
Darcy isn’t pretty, she isn’t sexy and she doesn’t have guys making passes. At least that what she thinks after being told such growing up. She does have a great job. Makes good money has a nice place to live in. It’s enough, right? Maybe not. When one of her few friends talks her into it she too fills out the mate.com app.
Could the two of them really make an immediate match? How will they both respond? Will his job let him respond right away? Just how much danger is he facing with his new assignment?
I enjoyed the short shifter romance with two deserving characters.
As always Ms Groves has written a wonderful shifter romance with tons of action, humor, and passion all tied up with a sweet HEA.
