NASA discovered the alien ship lurking in the asteroid belt in the 1960s. They kept the Target under intense surveillance for decades, letting the public believe they were exploring the solar system, while they worked feverishly to refine the technology needed to reach it.The ship itself remained silent, drifting.Dr. Jane Holloway is content documenting nearly-extinct languages and had never … and had never contemplated becoming an astronaut. But when NASA recruits her to join a team of military scientists for an expedition to the Target, it’s an adventure she can’t refuse.
The ship isn’t vacant, as they presumed.
A disembodied voice rumbles inside Jane’s head, “You are home.”
Jane fights the growing doubts of her colleagues as she attempts to decipher what the alien wants from her. As the derelict ship devolves into chaos and the crew gets cut off from their escape route, Jane must decide if she can trust the alien’s help to survive.

Fluency caught my interest from the beginning of the book. I don’t like when the beginning of the book is boring while it’s building the characters and back-story, but such was not the case here. It’s definitely a page turner, and I’m looking forward to the books following it in the series.
An interesting story about space, alien contact and interaction, and the quality of human character. I found the story to be probable, without being too outlandish. I must say, however, the ending was quite abrupt and disappointing. In spite of that, I look forward to the next book in the series.
A great first contact story with an unusual twist
Wonderful read; thinking of the sequel!
Could not put it down. Easy reading and stirred my imagination.
Cool perspective
Entertaining
Classic Sci Fi in the tradition of Asimov and Heinlein.
I loved this book. The narrative flows, character build is smooth and is created as you read. Ms. Wells has written 3 other books and I’ve read them all. I’m really looking forward to the next one!
The book is ok but there is way to much fluff talk. Background info an the main character that was something to just flip through. The book is a little slow.
I bought the second book ($.99) and it better get better and faster for I will not buy anymore of the books which I am sure there will be
Nice twist on Roswell
I really enjoyed this book. It put a new twist on the search for intelligente life outside of earth.
Solid, not too deep, but satisfying Sci-fi. Strong female characters and adventure…
I enjoyed this book, but I consider it a stand alone. For some reason I have no desire to continue with the series. I was curious as to how many of jane’s fellow astronauts would stay with ther, and that was answered in the “sneak preview” of the next book.
A Sci-Fi novel with turns that I never expected, especially at the end. I look forward to the novels that follow in this series.
Strong woman character.
I am currently reading the fourth book of the series. All excellent so far but I am worried it may go on too long.
Entertaining but not compelling enough to buy into the series
Could be called sex in space — good ideas but lack of character development and too much sex and the f-word
If you are looking for adventure turned surrealistic, this is a must read. Adventure to an unknown spacecraft is great, but to become the crew members in a greater trek of unknown worlds, creatures and dangers to help set right what went wrong is almost beyond comprehension.
