NASA discovered the alien ship lurking in the asteroid belt in the 1960s. They kept the Target under intense surveillance for decades, letting the public believe they were exploring the solar system, while they worked feverishly to refine the technology needed to reach it.The ship itself remained silent, drifting.Dr. Jane Holloway is content documenting nearly-extinct languages and had never … and had never contemplated becoming an astronaut. But when NASA recruits her to join a team of military scientists for an expedition to the Target, it’s an adventure she can’t refuse.
The ship isn’t vacant, as they presumed.
A disembodied voice rumbles inside Jane’s head, “You are home.”
Jane fights the growing doubts of her colleagues as she attempts to decipher what the alien wants from her. As the derelict ship devolves into chaos and the crew gets cut off from their escape route, Jane must decide if she can trust the alien’s help to survive.

Good read
Even though the story was good. There was way to much cursing for my taste. I feel that when a writer makes a character with a foul mouth, it takes away from the charm and development of the character’s personality.
While not totally an original concept, Fluency was a good enough read that I will get the second book and hope it is equally good. This is kind of the problem with so many science fictions books lately in that there are very few books that tell the story from beginning to end in the scope of one book.
Excellent Read! Great Story.
The alien character surprised my expectations as the story began a course shift toward its ending. Use of ‘flashback’ storytelling if often necessary, but it can annoy a reader tired from the events of a workday. Perhaps not a strong fault on a writer’s part, but a reality still. A writer’s reliance on telepathy can also be an annoying literary …
did not put it down
Good enough for me to buy the second in the series……
Fluency 3 stars
Not bad. Fairly good writing, well-proofread. Interesting alien ship, navigator, AI. Abusive relationships within team, more violence than necessary. Not terribly motivated to read book 2.
Great book, a real page turner. Well written and edited, good character development and story line.
This was an entertaining first contact novel. Sure, there are a great deal of first contact novels, but this had enough of a different take to feel fresh. I enjoyed the plot and action from this novel. A lot happens and the details around the alien ship are interesting. The author does great work with medical particulars, which went a long way in …
I enjoy a good Sci-fly novel and this one didn’t disappoint. I liked the premise and I liked the story. Some of the characters were predictable as were some of the situations, but I enjoyed this story enough to buy the next book
Great read I highly this book
Looking forward to reading the series.
Interesting concept, quick read. Not intriguing enough to me to pay for the sequel
Very slow read, very convoluted. Not a book to have fun reading.
Loved this sci fi read. The characters were great and the science understandable. A fun read. Couldn’t put it down.
Fun quick reat
Not so much. It did not liv up to its hype.
I hated it.
great first book in a series. I have already ordered the remaining 3 books in the series. Can’t wait to read the rest
