NASA discovered the alien ship lurking in the asteroid belt in the 1960s. They kept the Target under intense surveillance for decades, letting the public believe they were exploring the solar system, while they worked feverishly to refine the technology needed to reach it.The ship itself remained silent, drifting.Dr. Jane Holloway is content documenting nearly-extinct languages and had never … and had never contemplated becoming an astronaut. But when NASA recruits her to join a team of military scientists for an expedition to the Target, it’s an adventure she can’t refuse.
The ship isn’t vacant, as they presumed.
A disembodied voice rumbles inside Jane’s head, “You are home.”
Jane fights the growing doubts of her colleagues as she attempts to decipher what the alien wants from her. As the derelict ship devolves into chaos and the crew gets cut off from their escape route, Jane must decide if she can trust the alien’s help to survive.

interesting look
A surprise ending as well as one of the characters! 🙂
A romance novel disguised as SF. I do NOT recommend it.
I am still reading it but I can tell I will be getting the following books, which I have only done twice before. It has to be really good or I move on to another figuring if it is that compelling I will eventually go back and get the other books that go with it. I won’t be able to do that with this book. I will have to get the rest. I don’t …
The first book in a fantastic sci-fi series. Very thought provoking and well-written. I was totally hooked and couldn’t put the book down, and then I had to read the rest of the books in the series. I loved them all!
Not done yet. My battery died. Very interesting concept.
slow to take. Doesn’t grab you to hang on and read. Disappointed.
A bit boring
Always great to find a cheap sci-fi read. Even got me to search out “The Story of Your Life” for free online. Give it a go and it will affect your perspective, which is what books are for, isn’t it?
Great book that made me want to read the entire series–now I’m anxiously awaiting the next book.
Started out interesting, went to hell in a handcart almost immediately.
Another fabulous and exciting space series that very unique and original. I wound up buying every book out in the series and read them all in about a week! Waiting for the-next one to come out!
I was hooked and read all four books. Very well written with good plots and subplots and characters you care about. A bit disappointed the the fourth book which ends with too many unresolved questions. I wonder if a fifth book is in the works.
Good enough to make you want to follow the series further.
Enjoyed reading this book. Good story, well told.
I read to be entertained, and I was certainly entertained by this book.
Usually, I start a book, read a few chapters and put it down. This one held me to the end. I will probably read some of the sequels.
A different take on sci-fi , at least initially.
I enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this entire series..it was fun, with really interesting characters and a really unique plot!
