I received this book from the group Quirky Blind Date and discovered a new to me author. I love rockstar romances and this one was no disappointment.
Ryder is a rocker and Quinn a photographer on tour with the band doing a feature.
They both have histories with their parents in totally different ways. I was waiting for Ryder’s story knowing it would break my heart.
This book had all the elements of a great romance, one that wasn’t meant to end in love for them…but did it?
Loved it and highly recommend it.
Ryder has a dark past that he strives to keep very private. His ghosts haunt him, but they make him the successful rock star he is today. Meaningless nights with groupies is enough for him. He has no desire for personal, serious relationships.
Quinn wants nothing more than to prove herself to the world, especially to her father after his rejection. She has no intention of being a groupie or fan. She’s here to do a job and get on with her life.
This was the first book I’ve read from author Mary J. Williams. She is a wonderful writer! She pulls you into the characters’ lives with her attention to detail and background. I found myself wanting to learn even more about the characters and their lives (therefore, I’ll be reading the rest of the series!). The scenes come alive with her wonderful descriptions. Follow the exciting life of a rock and roll star through the eyes of a determined photographer. You will not be disappointed!
**language warning: there are strong swear words used frequently. I don’t really care for that, but it was not enough to put me off the book or the author. ** (I received the book in exchange for an honest review.)
4.5 Stars for Flowers on the Wall ( Hart of Rock and Roll #1)
Audio Review
Mary J Williams is a new author to me and Daniela Acitelli the narrator is also new to me but that’s about to change because I really enjoyed listening to Flowers on the Wall. The narrator did a great job bringing the story and the characters to life and I found myself engrossed in Ryder Hart and Quinn Abernathy’s romance. A couple with plenty of baggage doesn’t make their journey easy, neither are looking for a relationship when they first meet but as they spend time together they realise maybe commitment is not a bad thing. This book ticked all my boxes, I was captivated by the story, I loved the characters and I’m looking forward to listening to the rest of the books in this series as well as checking out other works by this author and the narrator.
4 Star review Flowers On The Wall (Hart of Rock & Roll #1) by Mary J Williams
Audio Review:
Both the author Mary J Williams and narrator Daniela Acitelli are new to me. This was an entertaining story and the narrator did a good job bringing the story to life for me.
The characters of Ryder Hart and Quinn Abernathy were easy to relate to with a story line that had me invested from the first to the last chapter. Despite being attracted to one another, neither are fully prepared to commit. Both have baggage that they need to deal with, particularly Ryder.
I enjoyed the progression of their relationship, a good romance that was at times steamy.
Perfectly acceptable if not predictable
Ryder Hart is a rock god that clawed his way to the top from an abusive childhood. His circle of friends is small, pretty much consisting only of his band mates. But, he is a fierce protector of those he holds dear. He also bears some serious emotional wounds from his past that he just can’t seem to let go.
Quinn is a photographer that had come from a supportive and well -off family, until she decided to pursue her dream, rather than her fathers. Since then, she has scrimped and saved and is making her own way. When the chance comes to photograph Ryder’s band for two weeks while they finish their tour, it’s an opportunity she can’t pass up.
Notorious for being publicity shy, the band decides to allow Quinn the chance to photograph them. The attraction between Quinn and Ryder is immediate, but Quinn refuses to pursue anything while she is on assignment . . . however, once her photo essay is submitted to Rolling Stone Magazine, all bets are off.
What follows is an amazing journey between two people who have more in common than they realized and fit together like puzzle pieces . . . however, will it be enough to become a relationship or is it strictly a two week fling once the tour has concluded.
I absolutely adored Flowers on the Wall. While it can be considered a rock star romance, it is so much more than that. Both Quinn and Ryder have extreme depth as characters. Ryder’s back story is heart breaking, and watching Quinn gain his trust enough for him to let down his walls for the first time in his life is breathtaking. Quinn’s inner strength was amazing. She knew what was in her heart, but is willing to walk away because it wasn’t what Ryder needed at the time. Their journey is rocky and far from easy, but that makes it easy to feel connected to the characters’ hearts and souls.
I enjoyed learning a bit about Zoe, Dalton and Ashe as well and was thrilled to discover there is a book for each of the band mates. If you enjoy a rock star romance, you’ll fall in love with Ryder and Quinn. 4.5 stars!
3.5 stars
“Hope. A small word, but so often it could be the difference between giving up and finding something – no matter how small – to hold onto.”
“It showed him what spring should look like. Blazing with beauty and the hope of what was ahead.”
I received this book as “blind date” and I knew nothing more about it than one sentence before I started it. It’s always exciting starting a book you don’t know a real thing about. And this book did not disappoint.
Flowers On The Wall was my first book from Mary J. Williams and even if I prefer books written from characters point of views and not in third-party, I really enjoyed her light writing style.
The book touches some sensitive subjects and I like how the characters deal/dealt with them and made them the very person they are now.
The story itself is a really good one and the main characters – which are really easy to like – go trough some big developments. However I think there was more potential in-between. Some things went way too smooth.
Ryder and Quinn hit it of directly with a drizzling chemistry. At some point I was so hooked with their attraction that I just couldn’t stop reading.
In addition, Ryder’s friendship and closeness with the rest of the band, especially with his sister Zoe was fascinating and I want more to learn about all other band members.
If you are up to an easy light read with a hot as hell rock star, this will be your book!
