The Duke of Jervaulx was brilliant and dangerous. Considered dissolute, reckless, and extravagant, he was transparently referred to as the ′D of J′ in scandal sheets, where he and his various exploits featured with frequency. But sometimes the most womanising rake can be irresistible, and even his most casual attentions fascinated the sheltered Maddy Timms, quiet daughter of a simple … mathematician.

One of my favorite books, ever.
When I started reading this I was like omg it’s Me Before You in Regency England! We have: 1 moody, rich dude robbed of his autonomy, & 1 pretty young thang who helps him.
Except I think this is darker than MBY?? Like this guy has a stroke except it’s REGENCY ENGLAND so he’s locked up in an INSANE ASYLUM and basically it’s the worst, pls do not …
This is often listed on romance readers top ten favorites, and it’s certainly one of the most unusual romances you’ll ever read. The hero and heroine are so completely opposite and yet by the end of the book you really cannot imagine anyone more perfect for the other. Kinsale’s writing is rich and evocative. There’s angst, and passion, and danger, …
This is a book that I read and re-read again and again. Filled with pathos, Roman e and unforgettable characters, Christian and his Maddygirl will stay with you long after you read that final page.
Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale was truly and enjoyable read for me. Not often do I read a book that compels me to want to see what the ending has in store. The characters and the history outlined in the story from my opinion was dead on. Although there were times that I had to get use to the dialogue of the “Friends” or “Quakers”, it …
This is a brilliant romance novel with characters with real depth and a hero I totally fell in love with. I loved the heroine, too! Christian, Duke of Jervaulx is a rake who is contemptuous of others and leads a dissolute life. The duke is also a maths genius, who first meets Maddy through her father, who is also a mathematician. The duke’s raking …
Probably one of my favorite book ever. I recently read it for the second time and I don’t normally reread books. If you love historical romance, this is not to be missed.
I read on average a book every day and a half. This is one of the best books I have ever read. I love the characters, and I struggled along with them as they fought for their happy ending.
*Flowers from the Storm*, by Laura Kinsale, is an historical romance set in the early 19th century (1800-1820) during the reign of England’s King George III. This book has the typical romance tropes, but they are done in an especially original way. Yes, there’s rich, powerful, and very arrogant duke, Christian Langford, who happens to be a math …
Way too much angst
5+ Stars!
This is the kind of epic romantic story I love. I hated the unpredictability of the angst, but also loved it. I hated the duke’s predicament, but loved how vulnerable it made him. I loved a heroine with true moral integrity, but I disliked the legalistic religiosity. All of this. ALL OF THIS! made for one fantastic reading experience. …
Twisted tale of total, and I mean TOTAL opposites. Rogue Duke has stroke and is cared for by a Quaker and although interesting, I just couldn’t love it. However, it is so unique that I can’t forget the tale like others that seem to sound like each other!
One of the best historical romances
Original Romance where the hero is in major distress and rescued by the heroine. All correctly historically within the structure of a Regency Romance. Very emotionally charged but be assured that there’s a Happy Ever After ending. Intense and unique.
Historical romance has always been my first love and my gateway drug into the genre was the wonderful Laura Kinsale. Her ‘Flowers From The Storm’ is regularly cited on romance readers favorite lists, and it’s certainly one of the most unusual romances you’ll ever read. The hero and heroine are so completely opposite and yet by the end of the book …
I reread this book all the time. Great characters wonderful love story.
This is one of my all-time favorite romance novels if not my favorite. Christian, a rake, but also a math “genius” and Maddy, a “puritan” type young woman, whose father is an associate in math with Christian are such a unique and wonderful pair. Christian has a stroke and Maddy ends up taking care of him and helping him recover. Christian’s …
One of my favorite books that I have read out of thousands!
I loved this book so much! It’s made me decide that I must write a historical romance. Everything about it was great—the characters, the plot, the incredibly accurate research about mathematics, medicine, Quakers, and economics. I couldn’t put it down!
This is a seriously powerful story. The blurb doesn’t even come close to doing it justice.
The Duke of Jervaulx is fairly typical of young men in the Regency period who are rich and single. Wait, that’s not restricted to a single time period! Ha ha!
He is self-indulgent and reckless. What makes him different is that he’s brilliant at …
