Meet the four horsemen: Michael, Gabrielle, Uriel and Raphael. For centuries their sole purpose has been guarding the sealed gates to hell. Without keys, there was never any real threat. That was about to change…Michael couldn’t care less about the love story behind how and why the world was created. In fact, nothing matters to him other than keeping the gates to hell closed. If one of the lost … closed. If one of the lost keys ever fell into the wrong hands, all humanity would be doomed. He’s not going to let that happen – at any cost.
Tara’s life is nothing short of a disaster. She’s managed to flunk out of college with about the same amount of dignity as every relationship she’s been in. The only constant in her life has been her love for flowers. When she’s attacked at work, a stranger comes to her aid. Michael might be good-looking, but he’s also arrogant, bossy and crazy. He’s also her only chance to figure out who attacked her and why. Should she follow her heart and trust him – or listen to her head and run?
When a demonic ritual comes into play, it exposes both of their vulnerabilities, leaving them with a choice – work together or perish alone.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I have to admit I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started reading but it didn’t take me long for this book to have my full attention – it never wavered until the very last page! I have previously read a book by this author so I knew she had a nice writing style which is again what I experienced with this book.
The book started with a fantastic prologue which is where my attention was first captured. I felt like I knew exactly what I was going into when I started chapter 1 and I think this added to my enjoyment of the story even more.
I loved the characters, it that they were really well thought out and I can tell even after the first book that they are going to be great to read about. I really liked Michael! Oh my gosh he was so handsome and sexy! I could have read about him all day long! He might have been a womaniser but I couldn’t help but like him! I liked Tara as well and found her character really interesting. I loved the unspoken chemistry between the two of them!
Having really enjoyed this book I am definitely looking forward to the next books in the series!
Flower Shields is book one in the two-book series by CA King. I have to say I did enjoy this book from the beginning. I found this book to be fast paced, exciting and very well written. Its about finding true love and loosing that one true love basically not long after finding it. Ihenna was always thought to be the most beautiful person in her kingdom. When she was at the age of marriage she found Nakamire. Ihenna and Nakamire fell in love and to prove his love Nakamire built her a beautiful world, with a beautiful place to call home. What made this so special their friends and some family members joined them. But while most were happy in this new world there was one person who wasn’t. That one person who was not happy was Nakamire’s brother Zahare. Zahare was filled with anger and jealousy over the love shared by Ihenna and Nakamire. Zahare knew that Ihenna would never leave his brother so he decided his brother must die. Zahare lunged at his brother with a poisoned dagger. But to everyone’s horror Ihenna jumped in front of her beloved Nakamire to protect him. Nakamire’s world falls apart, and he is not only angry with his brother but the world around him also. In his grief and anger he calls upon the Gods inflicting a war on the world.

Flower Shields: A Four Horsemen Novel by C.A. King
Flower Shields by C.A. King is book 1 in the Four Horsemen Series. It is a 4 Star supernatural book with a little romance mixed in. This is a quick read and an interesting and imaginative take on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse guarding the gates of Hell. The story has demons, action and suspense. The world the author described is unique and well-described so that you are able to feel like you could really be there in the story.
I would’ve enjoyed the book more had it been a bit longer and allowed for even more character and story development, but I believe Flower Shields to be a good start to this book series. I liked Michael and Tara’s characters and would’ve liked to see a little more of the romantic side, emotions, and relationship development, but again, I enjoyed reading this unexpected story.
I was beyond excited to read this book. I am a devoted (rabid) fan of the Portal Prophesies series that C. A. King wrote and I could tell from the prologue that this is going to be another absolutely fantastic series. I was hooked.
The prologue brings a twist to creation myths that had a sprinkle of everything and more love and revenge than I’ve seen in others.
There is a paranormal romance aspect to this book and as in King’s other series, I really enjoy that the entire plot didn’t revolve around Michael and Tara’s romance while also keeping me guessing. I cannot wait to read the next book!
Flower Shields is the first novel in the Four Horsemen series by C. A. King. This is a five star novel. After reading and loving The Portal Prophecies series, I was intrigued to find out more about this author and read any novels she had written. Once I picked up Flower Shields, there was no putting it down. The story flowed in a way that made it interesting and wanting for more. I cannot wait to read the second installment. This book follows two main characters. Tara is a normal young adult, fighting to find her place in the world without following in her parents footsteps. When strange things start happening, she has difficulty deciding what is real. Michael is a demigod who’s sole purpose is to make sure the lost keys to Hell are never found. When this is threatened, he has to find a way to stop the evil from happening.

I picked this up because a friend recommended it. I was not disappointed! The writing is easy to follow and read. The characters are interesting. The story was great. I enjoyed how much of the background info was put into the prologue. That was immensely helpful so I was on board when I started chapter one.
I love Michael! He is broody, a womanizer and handsome to boot. He is also a horseman. He looks for demons and banishes them. He hasn’t seen a demon in a while but times are changing. He realizes when he meets Tara something is off.
Tara is important to the universe and has no clue. All she knows is there are weird people with dark eye showing up at her job among other places. I was surprised she didn’t freak when she found out. I did like her insight to the whole flowers thing.
I wasn’t super invested in the love story aspect because they hardly spent time together. So how could they be in insta-love. There was no kissing/talking basically he was rude to her and she smashed flowers over his head. Don’t get me wrong…that part was great! I still *snicker* thinking about it. But I guess they are destined.
This is my first book by this author. Although this is a relatively short book it is packed full of a great story. I will be looking forward to reading the next horsemans story.
Flower Shields (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 1) by C.A. King was a unique fast pace read, that had me hooked form start to finish.
For being a short read this book has everything you would get in a full lent novel. That being said I do feel somethings were rushed, especially at the end. The climax was excellently executed, but, I do feel the fight choreography was a little, unpolished in some places. But again I feel that’s because of the length of the book.
As for our MC’s, I liked Tara. Though she had to be save on a few occasions, it wasn’t a damsel situation. She kept her head on straight and did her best to think things through. She’s quirky and savage. Though we meet her when she’s on the outs, her unique personality shins through. The girl trust her instances , and believe me, it saved her life. A special trait that some UF characters seems to lack. .. that alleyway looks like a trap.. my gut is yelling danger/death awaits.. lets go check it out! Tara thank you for listing.
I will say that twist, I didn’t see that coming. There was some small foreshadowing to indicate it, but at the same time, it was over shadowed with kindness. I will say that, with said twist, I didn’t like the way it was resolved. Kind of a throw away, and I think it should have been handled with a little more finesse.
Our love interest, he was your typical alpha male. I don’t think I need to say more. I did however like his character but; I just felt like he was like every other alpha male in urban fantasy, or any other genre. The only different, it took a bit for that insta-lust/love to kick in.. I’m going to blame that on the dress. (You’ll get it once you read this marvel).
Our main antagonist, he was a surprise. I like him, he had more character development in the short fews pages he was in, then any other character. Now it wasn’t epic, but it was more so from him telling his story to the point he was currently at. There’s more to him, and I think he is going to be the key in the final battle.
With that being said, I very much enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next instalment. I’m guessing that it’s going to follow each horseman on their own journey until the final battle. Judging by the two lovers in this book, I have a good guest on who the other couples are going to be in the books to follow, and I have a feeling it’s all going to be connected, or have some major meaning in that finally battle. That I’m going to say now, it’s going to be epic. I just got this feeling that this book is just the tip of the iceberg.
If you haven’t guessed, I highly recommend this book, and all books to come.
Happy Reading.

Flower Shields is the first book in the Four Horsemen series by C.A King. I have read all of Ms. Kings books now, and this one is among my favourites of hers. I loved the premise of the story and enjoyed reading Ms. King’s take and twist on the four horsemen myth. This is a very creative and individual urban fantasy that has gods, demons, good vs evil, mystery, suspense, action, drama, and supernatural elements.
The characters are superb- fully developed, interesting and likeable- who grew and developed as the story progressed, Tara most of all.
This is a very imaginative, unique and well written story. The author has a very dynamic style, with detailed descriptions and rich, vibrant scene setting. Through her words we are transported into the story and experience it along with the characters. Ms. King has produced an entirely captivating read. I wasn’t sure whether I’d enjoy it as much as some of her other books, but I am happy to say that Ms. King definitely didn’t disappoint, and I loved how she crafted the story and brought all the various elements together, weaving them into a story that held my attention from beginning to end.
I really liked this story am very intrigued by the promise it holds for the rest of the series. I am really looking forward to reading the rest of this series. Bring on Book two!
Thank you, Ms. King!
Flower Shields (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 1) by CA King is the first book in the Four Horseman series. This is my first time reading anything by this author. This book is a little different than I usually read, but when demigods and demons are thrown into the mix, I’m hooked. This book grabbed my attention and held it through the whole book. Just when I thought I was done reading for a while, it sucked me back in. This book was read in a few hours. This book has two main characters, but the secondary characters are what adds depth to this storyline.
Tara needs a job and finds one through a family friend. Her job is not at all what she expected and is in for a serious wakeup call. There is mystery in the shadows and Tara thinks she has an admirer that she doesn’t want or ask for and it has her worried. She is soon pushed to her limit and a whole new side of Tara comes out. This is my favo8rte side of her, she’s super feisty and finds courage that she didn’t know she had.
Michael has a job. His job is not a normal job like at a bank, his job is to guard the gates of Hell and keep it safe. The gate opens using four keys, but who are the keepers of the keys? We know for sure Michael is one of the keepers of the keys. When things start getting real Michael is bound and determined to keep Tara safe and the gates closed. He also finds himself attracted to Tara. Does Tara feel the same?
The author is so creative in this book giving you a lot of detail and a great storyline without making it feel to heavy and full of information that you must wade through to get to the heart of the story. CA King gives you just enough to keep you wanting more. Just when I was getting comfortable with the story, CA King throws in some unexpected surprises. Plus, you get a glimpse of the other horsemen. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Interesting approach to the topic and genre. Looking forward to character development in book 2.
Flower Shields is an innovative take on ancient myths. The story is told at a great pace, keeping the story moving without leaving out any details which will be needed later on. The characters are well-developed with distinct personalities. It will be interesting to see what becomes of Tara in the rest of the series. I would recommend this book to anyone YA and over looking for an entertaining evening read.
This book is a really enjoyable read. The author takes existing mythological characters and shapes them into her own creations. She gives them personalities and history and brings them to life in an interestingly different story. It has a few nice twists and ends with just enough unanswered questions to make the reader eager to read the next instalment without being annoying.
I will definitely be reading book 2.
Flower Shields (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 1) by C.A. King
5-Stars
Flower Shields (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 1) by C.A. King is an excellent fantasy romance novel. Easily worth its 5-stars. Tara and Michael are the main characters. Tara is somehow mixed up in a scenario involving a key. Michael is looking for it as well but to keep it from landing in the hands of demons. Tara is attacked by demons and is whisked away by Michael. That is when things really go crazy.
This story was easy to follow and fun to read. I loved the development and plot twist. The characters were very creative and the backstory was exciting. It was a different fictional beginning for all life. I really enjoyed this novel and hope other readers will too.
Flower Shields by C. A. King is an interesting introduction. Our heroine in this story, Tara, seems destined for anonymity. Such a plain mousey young lady doesn’t seem to make for an interesting tale. But in all good stories there is always more than meets the eye. Someone finds her very interesting. By the time our hero arrives on the scene I was quite caught up in the story. The introduction, Flower Shields, to The Four Horseman novels has been intriguing to say the least. I am certainly on board for the next one.
Flower Shields by C.A King was a fun and great read. I would give this book a five out of five stars. I loved Tara’s character, she is down on her luck and needed something to work out. I really was rooting for her from the first page. I was interested in the back story that was presented, I really liked C.A King’s twist. I enjoy God, Demigod, Angels, and Demons paranormal stories and those characters really came off of the page for this one.
Flower Shields by C.A. King a four-star read that gets a star for each horseman. This is the first story in the Four Horseman series, and I need the rest of the series as I need to know more. I love this author as the stories are super quick to read and always pack a punch, they start on the first page and don’t let up, usually that would mean that you miss character development but it’s not the case with this author. This is definitely a paranormal fantasy read with a little romance on the side, rather than a primary romance. But the story is good, and the writing is great.
This book has it all. Gods, Demons, major conflict, and love. The initial story of the four horsemen, Uri, Gabby, Raphael, and Michael starts out with a bang. This story focused on Michael and Tara and it was good. Watching them fall in love, having to overcome the many problems was a joy, I love happy endings. I look forward to the future novels and each of the other horsemen find their love as well.
An exciting and entertaining paranormal adventure. I loved this fast-paced story with great twists and original ideas. I wish it had been longer because I didn’t want it to end! I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
Tara is all but a lost soul. She’s been working in her parents’ funeral home, but dead bodies aren’t exactly her cup of tea. She’s looking for a new job when the owner of the flower shop her parents use offers her one. Michael, on the other hand, is a demigod – one of the guardians of the gates of hell. He doesn’t get tangled up with earthly women, other than for brief flings, because, well, they’re just human. Until he encounters Tara and realizes that those trying to open one of the gates want her. Not dead, not just yet, but once she’s outlived her usefulness, who cares? Michael, for one.
Flower Shields is relatively short, but it’s a roller-coaster ride that engages the reader and doesn’t let up. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
May be a 3.5. This is a fairly easy read, that I would recommend, Good characters and a nice spin on some of our religious beliefs / mythologies. Absolutely no offense to the author, but for 166 pages, I would never spend $18.00 on this. The $2.99 for it digitally was comfortable. I will be reading the follow up novels in this series. As with a lot of my reviews, I would recommend this story to someone wanting a pleasant break between some of the Epic Fantasy or SciFi stories.
