Meet the four horsemen: Michael, Gabrielle, Uriel and Raphael. For centuries their sole purpose has been guarding the sealed gates to hell. Without keys, there was never any real threat. That was about to change…Michael couldn’t care less about the love story behind how and why the world was created. In fact, nothing matters to him other than keeping the gates to hell closed. If one of the lost … closed. If one of the lost keys ever fell into the wrong hands, all humanity would be doomed. He’s not going to let that happen – at any cost.
Tara’s life is nothing short of a disaster. She’s managed to flunk out of college with about the same amount of dignity as every relationship she’s been in. The only constant in her life has been her love for flowers. When she’s attacked at work, a stranger comes to her aid. Michael might be good-looking, but he’s also arrogant, bossy and crazy. He’s also her only chance to figure out who attacked her and why. Should she follow her heart and trust him – or listen to her head and run?
When a demonic ritual comes into play, it exposes both of their vulnerabilities, leaving them with a choice – work together or perish alone.

Love the four horsemen
A perfect book to keep you company for the weekend.
A relatively short read and entertaining once it gets going, so much that I may read the other novels in this series. In particular the characters drew me to the story especially opposites attracted to each other creating undeniable tension. I recommend this story.
Flower Shields (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 1) Kindle Edition
by C.A. King
I received a complimentary copy and am choosing to leave a honest and fair review.
It is no secret that I adore stories involving the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!. Flower Shields is no different. Well, it is a little different as the Horsemen are actually four Archangels – Michael, Gabrielle, Uriel and Raphael.
The novel opens with a creation myth. The myth is a mash up of many other creation stories and told in a gorgeous, native narrative. For instance, “When the day came, Zahare approached his brother, deception dancing on his lips in the form of a smile.” The story picks up when we hit chapter one and meet Tara (a name which refers to a Hindu Goddess of Dawn as well as the name of the high castle in Ireland). Language also changes with a sly sense of humor rolling through. Tara is not a morning person (again, as being named for the Goddess of the Dawn) and we hear her inner monologue in a 3rd person, semi-omniscient tone “The early bird can’t catch the worm if the worm isn’t up yet.
These examples aren’t the only examples of sly humor and irony that is British humor.
Not only is the humor very British, Michael is an Angelic/Demigod James Bond. He always manages to escape and he wins the girl. We also meet a masterminded villain who monologues a bit! The next novel is also set up nicely.
More of an UF than a PNR, this book is fun, funny, tightly written and thrill filled.

A interesting read. A different way of looking the four horsemen. Could have dun with more demons. Perhaps in the next book.
“Flower Shields” is the first book in the Four Horsemen series by the very talented C.A King. In this novella we meet Tara, your average twenty something young woman who is desperate to find her own path in life, away from her parent’s funeral home business. While on her job hunt, she starts seeing people around town who don’t look like normal people, she sees death in their eyes and it scares her. An old family friend comes to her rescue one night and sets events in motion that I won’t go into so I don’t spoil anything! This is another very interesting fantasy story from C.A. King and I can’t wait to get into the next parts of the story. I really like the concept used for the story and how C.A King can take a similar tale of the four horsemen and completely make it original! Another great novella worth five stars! I can’t wait to dive into “Drawing Strength From Words!”

5-star review
Flower Shields by C.A. King is a must read! C.A. King never ceases to amaze me with every new and truly original storyline. This is the first book in the Four Horsemen series, a series I can’t wait to continue reading. This is a shorter read so I was able to read it in one sitting as I was so intrigued that I couldn’t put it down. Honestly, I was hooked from the prologue!
This author has created another incredible world full of danger, drama and powerful demi-gods with so much detail that I could easily picture everything playing out in my mind. I loved everything about this well thought out storyline, I only wish it were longer because I could have read so much more of Tara and Michael’s story. This is a book I won’t soon forget, and I would definitely recommend it to others. I look forward to reading book 2!
Flower Shields is the first book in the A Horsemen Series by C.A. King. I enjoy reading C.A.’s work because she is famous for putting her own refreshing twists on many a folk lore or legend and making them her own. Flower Shields is a biblical twist with demigods and demons in a modern world. I love a good fantasy, paranormal, supernatural, romantic and fabled story and this book definitely delivers on all fronts and certainly does not disappoint. The story and plot is well thought out and comes at your thick and fast and you will find yourself cursing because it will be over far too fast. I enjoyed our main characters, Tara and Michael and their relationship is fun to read and had me laughing, especially from Michaels point of view. They both come from very different backgrounds but share more than they realise. I liked that the story was lighthearted and unpredictable and I love a good guessing game when it comes to books. I am looking forward to reading the stories of the other characters in this series. I enjoy reading these refreshing and original concepts by C.A.
Nice easy read. Also great if you like anything ‘Horseman’. Perhaps a little too predictable for my usual taste, nevertheless, I think this a fab read if you’re in the mood for a little fantasy romance.
Take a pinch of legend, mix it with a pinch of the bible, stir in a love story, add some demons, whisk in a devilish plot… and hey presto, you have a fab fun to read, engaging story. Had to chuckle regarding a paragraph about a demigods anatomy! Good, easy to read story, really enjoyable.
I give 5 stars to Flower Shields (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 1) written by C.A. King.
This is the first time I’ve read a book from this author as I have to be in the mood for a fantasy read and this really did my mood some justice, the author has made some really good characters, and plot, especially the lead Tara and how she grow throughout the book. Michael is a tall, arrogant, gorgeous, bossy man in the right place at the right time to save Tara from a attack, should she now trust the other person she has never met to help her solve her attack?
Michael has his own secrets being one if the horsemen that guard the gates to hell to make sure they are never opened as no good will come of that, there are 4 lost keys that must stay hidden Michael is just hoping the rumours aren’t true and there are no scrolls.
Tara is a normal female that’s life is nothing short of a disaster but she is determined to make a life and herself and her love of flowers, after a bad start by leaving college early and bad relationships she’s determined to change it all but then she’s attacked and meets Michael.

Flower Shields a Four Horsemen Novel Book 1 written by C.A. King is not the first book that I have read by this author. Her writing is unique and realistic that I couldn’t put this book down that I read it in one sitting.
We meet the four horsemen: Michael, Gabrielle, Uriel and Raphael. For centuries their job has been to guard the gates of hell, making sure they never open. Without the keys, there was never any real threat. That’s about to change. There are rumours on the horizon that demon followers unearthed scrolls that explain exactly how to find the lost keys. This new battle is a race to see which side locates them first.
Michael might be good-looking, but he’s also arrogant, bossy and crazy. And he couldn’t care less about the love story behind how and why the world was created. In fact, nothing matters to him other than keeping the gates to hell closed.

Michael know one thing if one of the lost keys ever fell into the wrong hands, all humanity would be doomed. He’s not going to let that happen at any cost.
I highly recommend this story….

Flower Shields: A Four Horsemen Novel by C.A. King is a book that completely hooked me from the very first pages. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the storyline flowed and the way in which the characters were developed.
I’m always looking for new reads, or new authors that I can get lost with. Which is why when I came across Flower Shields, I was interested. I definitely enjoyed the paranormal twist that we get with this retelling of the Four Horsemen. I have to say that I was glad with the feel of the story being original.
I can honestly say that I’ll be coming back for more of this author. The author does a fantastic job on doing a refreshing take on existing tales. I would definitely consider this a 5 Star Book!!
Flower Shield A Four Horseman Novel by CA King
Four Stars
What a great twist on a classic. The four horseman are suppose to be the end of the world. The author changed names and gave the four horseman new identities. The story follows Tara who is feeling down because she flunked out of college and her only prospect is working in the family funeral home. She sets out to find her way and finds herself in the middle of a battle as old as time. She learns about Gods, demigods and demons not really believing this could be real. Mixed with all that she meets Michael a demigod out protecting the world. I seriously enjoyed following Tara and Michael’s story they have a interesting chemistry. The author did great with making you see the world through the characters eyes.
Flower Shields is the first novel in the Four Horseman Series by C. A. King, what a way to start! Straight away you are pulled in and hooked. I was totally left wanting more, the book is a short read book but you get everything in it that you would expect in a full length. The characters are intriguing to the point you can’t put it down because you are attached to their lives and need to know what happens next.
The book is told from two characters point of view, the first is Tara. Tara is busy trying to find a job, even though she could work in the families funeral business, Tara wants to find her own way in life. Through a series of events Tara finds herself in a situation she could never imagine and has no idea how to cope. A stranger comes to save her from her situation, not just any stranger though, this stranger has something about him, those eyes!
Very engaging, can’t wait for the rest of the series!
I wasn’t sure what I would encounter when I began reading this book. However I was pleasantly surprised. Well paced and developed. I enjoyed it and found it difficult to put down before I finished reading it in full.
Flower Shields (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 1) by C.A. King is a paranormal romance surrounding the story of the Four Horsemen. Michael is willing to do whatever it takes to keep the gates of Hell closed. When he hears whispers of demons searching for the lost keys to the gates he travels to Earth to find them first. It is there that he meets, and saves, Tara. Tara is a young woman that is trying to find her own way in the world. Can these two people find a way to work together? I really enjoyed this book; while short it was well paced and well thought out. Tara was an interesting character to read about. Each character brings something to the story making it well rounded. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m excited to read more. I’m glad I picked this book up, I’m giving it a well-deserved four star rating and can’t wait to see where the author takes us next.
Flower Shields by C.A. King is a paranormal story that has the four horseman of the apocalypse as well as demons and Demi gods. This is not my first book by C. A. King and I enjoyed it as I enjoyed the others. I found the writing and story to be good and enjoyed reading it. There was a good combination of action and romance and suspense. I would rate it 4 stars.
I have come to realize that C.A. King enjoys taking old fables, or legends, and turning them into a novel that is relevant for the time we are in now. I love the captivating story lines and plot twists that are unpredictable, regardless, of the past preconceptions that you have about what you assumed was the story in the past.
Flower Shields is the first novel in the Four Horsemen series from C.A. King. In this book we mostly get the story started, setting up what the battle is to come, and the dangers that are on the horizon. We also get an up close and personal account of Michael. He is one of the four horsemen and this book centers on his point of view. Michael’s only concerns are guarding the gates of hell and making sure no one can open them and unleash the dark world. It was never a difficult task to protect the gates until it is discovered by demons that have found scrolls that contain the secrets to finding the lost keys. Now the main battle that Michael has, is to make sure he finds the keys before the dark world does. He has to protect the world from the dangers of hell, regardless of the costs that will take a toll on him. Which side will find the keys first, good or bad?
Tara is struggling with life right now. She has failed out of college and finds herself in the middle of an attack on her while she is at work. It is Michael that comes to her rescue. There are a lot of things that Michael makes her feel, but it is a slow burn to that point of a love interest for her. His off-putting personality combined with his bossy attitude is unsettling to Tara. She is a strong willed woman and trusts her head above all else. This is what will aid her in protecting her life. As much as she needs to be saved at points, it was refreshing to see that she was able to protect herself for the most part and doesn’t need to play the damsel in distress role we often equate with alpha male and quirky woman love interests.
There was a lot packed into this short book. For me, I would have totally been ok with this book being longer. My only complaint was that this deterred from the world building for me. I would have liked to have more descriptive areas that brought to life what was going on with the gates of hell and what it looked like. A longer more detailed book would have been a bonus, but didn’t take away from my good experience reading this novel.
I look forward to seeing what is to come from the other horsemen’s point of views and how they will play a role in the battle to protect the world from the dark demons that threaten to destroy it. I do hope that the next has a bit more of detailed descriptions of the world this book takes place in and continues on the path of a dystopian era novel. I have a feeling I will enjoy the next as much as this one if not more so, as if often seen in multiple book series.
Flower Shields (A Four Horsemen Novel) by CA King was an interesting story. While I’ve read about demons before, this is the first that I have read with a sort of biblical tie. I enjoyed the spin that the author presented with this storyline. It was interesting to see it tied together. However, I spent a vast majority of the quick story confused. A lot of the confusion would have been resolved with character development, especially in relationships. We don’t get a look at the relationship between Tara and Michael at all and a lot of their interactions caught me by surprise. It was as though I missed a portion of the story that was crucial to understanding. Even with the confusion, the story seemed like it will be a good stepping stone for the rest of the series to pan out. I like that I can’t guess what will happen as the author seems to like twists.
