He’s a hot single dad. A military man with abs of steel. My brother’s best friend. My biggest enemy. And now my fake date to my best friend’s wedding. Disasterville, here we come…Mission: Survive my best friend’s wedding, where I must play nice with my ex and his perfect new girlfriend.Strategy: Bring the hottest fake boyfriend on the planet.Target: Grady Rock. Master Baker. Dimples. Muscles. … planet.
Target: Grady Rock. Master Baker. Dimples. Muscles. The unicorn of fake boyfriends.
Complication: Wyatt Morgan. My brother’s best friend. My sworn enemy. Military man. Sexy as hell single dad. The man I let into my panties for one night of hot hate sex after my ex dumped me.
And the man who just scared off that perfect fake boyfriend.
By pretending to be my real boyfriend.
I can roll with this though. What’s the harm in Flirting with the Frenemy if it helps me get the job done?
Complete my mission and move on.
Or so I thought.
Until Wyatt kisses me again and I start feeling things I shouldn’t.
The thing about weddings…nothing ever goes as planned.
Flirting with the Frenemy is a rollicking fun romantic comedy featuring a single dad military man, an irritatingly attractive blast from his past, pirates, cursing parrots, and a wedding gone wild. It stands alone with no cheating or cliffhangers.

ugh, the whole distracting pirate town wedding/ side show. i practically swiped through the entire book. and my bad, i bought books 1 & 2 together…..
Absolutely hysterical! This book made me laugh out loud!!
Where to begin? Swoon worthy, laugh til you cry, lots of love, superstition, pirates and goats! Ellie and Wyatt have been one upping each other since they were kids, each trying to out do the other. No two people ever hated each other more. Or did they? All grown up and both just ending bad relationships, they discover the line between love and hate is pretty fine and full of passion. Journey with them and a brand new cast of characters as they discover that in order to truly live and find the joy of love, chances must be taken, risks be damned!
The first book I read by this author was Stud in the Stacks and I loved it to the point that I gushed about it in an embarrassingly girly manner in my review. So I went into this one with really high expectations. And for the most part, those expectations were met. But there were just a few things that irked me and kept it from being the kind of 5-star keeper that Stud in the Stacks was.
But first, here’s what I loved:
1. There are some really funny moments in this book. I’m talking laugh-until-you-pee-a-little moments. And who doesn’t need a good laugh-until-you-pee-a-little moment every now and then?
2. Wyatt is a great hero. He’s an awesome single dad, a test pilot for the military (how freakin’ cool is THAT?), and he’s a genuinely nice guy who, had I read this book sooner, might’ve found his way onto my book boyfriends who’d make the best real life boyfriends list. I loved that even when he was teasing Ellie or trying to get her riled up, he was never mean to her or degrading. He always treated her with respect, and that makes him a keeper in my book.
3. Ellie is a decent heroine, too. She’s not as awesome as Wyatt, but she’s a survivor with impressive emotional fortitude, and I respect that.
4. Tucker, Wyatt’s son, is all kinds of adorable. He’s never annoying or age inappropriate like so many other kids are in Romancelandia. (You know the kids I’m talking about. The quirky, way-too-smart-to-be-realistic 5-year-olds with lisps who pop up in the story to dispense sage romance advice to the adults? I HATE those kids.)
5. I kind of wish I’d had a pirate-themed wedding after reading this. But in all fairness, my fascination with pirates dates back to when Captain Hook first appeared on Once Upon a Time. But I digress…
Now, for the stuff that didn’t work for me…
There were SO MANY characters in the book (pretty obvious sequel bait) that I often found myself confused about who was who. I thought maybe I’d stumbled into book 5 in a series or something, but no, this was book 1. I liked all the characters and will most likely read their books, but I had trouble keeping them straight.
Ellie’s reason for putting the brakes on a relationship with Wyatt just struck me as…well, kind of stupid, honestly. I won’t give any plot points away, but if you read the book, you’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it.
There was some seemingly unnecessary drama with Ellie’s ex and his new girlfriend. I’m not sure what all that was about since it never really caused too many problems for Wyatt or Ellie. And if there’s one thing I can’t stand in a romance it’s unnecessary drama.
But, all that said and minor irks notwithstanding, I still think this one’s worth a read. For me, the funny and sweet and sexy moments made up for the stuff that wasn’t so great. I’ll definitely be reading more books in the series, and I really like this author’s style.

Flirting with the Frenemy is a delightful rom-com with a hot Hero, a sassy Heroine, and an adorable 7-year-old that kept me laughing. Wyatt and Ellie have been on the wrong side of a love/hate relationship for a long time. But, after Wyatt is assumed to be Ellie’s boyfriend at a week-long wedding event, they start exploring the love side. There was a good deal of humor and a few over the top situations (reason for 4 stars instead of 5), the writing was solid and the humor made me giggle. This was my first Pippa Grant book, but I will be looking for more from this author.
AWESOME, as always. Pippa Grant just blows me away with her humor, where does she come up with this stuff!!! I mean there were times that I was just cracking up so bad, my family was looking like I lost my damn mind!!
The town of Shipwreck is just so adorable. The Pirate Festival has everyone wearing their best Pirate clothes, like this is an everyday thing here. The Parrot, I need Silver Beard in my life, hysterical animal!
This is going to be an AMAZING series!!
All the stars
I don’t understand how an author can make every book better than the last one, but PG does it, every single time. I feel like I need more than 5 stars for Wyatt and Ellie’s story but that’s not an option. I can’t wait for more Bro Code!!
4.5 Stars
Ellie Ryder has had a rough six months, after her boyfriend unceremoniously dumps her, life as she knows it starts to slowly fall apart. Now, with the upcoming wedding of her BFF, Ellie has to prepare herself to come face to face with her ex again… and his new girlfriend. Luckily for her she has the perfect wedding date ready and waiting…
Wyatt Morgan can’t wait to spend some much needed time with his son. After being denied a relocation with the Air Force and then losing his custody battle with his ex, it’s been a long time since he was able to have some uninterrupted father/son time. But, the house they’re staying at already has a guest… and she wants nothing to do with him… for now.
With their antagonistic relationship that they have had since they were kids, nothing good could come from Ellie and Wyatt embarking on a relationship… or so the universe is telling them…

Flirting with the Frenemy was an absolutely hilarious and all-around delightful read!! Ellie and Wyatt’s adorable rivalry is filled with fantastic banter, constant one-upmanship, and a plethora of sexual tension…
Ellie has never been one to back down from a challenge, but after a recent rough patch, she hasn’t been acting as her normal self. Recovering from an injury, and some residual heartbreak, she isn’t looking forward to seeing her ex… at all. And then Wyatt shows up unannounced and as cocky as ever. First, her ruins her fake date she has set up for the wedding, then he does everything he can to push all of her buttons… especially the ones that get her all hot and bothered.
Wyatt is an arrogant know it all, and Ellie’s brothers BFF. Seeing his former adversary at her lowest point is completely unfathomable to him, so he makes it his mission to get the old Ellie back… one challenge at a time. But the Ellie that he has always known, who refuses to lose at anything, is starting to get under his skin, and he isn’t sure he wants her to ever leave.
OMG!! I had so much fun reading this book!! First of all, the story is set at a pirate festival, I mean seriously, that aspect alone provided so many hilarious and entertaining scenes!! Then there is the unique and unforgettable relationship between Ellie and Wyatt, these two nuanced and ultra lovable characters that deserve to find the kind of happiness that they can only really achieve with each other.
I seriously adore Pippa Grant!! With her ability to create such amazing interconnected characters, every story leads into your next must read standalone. And this book absolutely provided a whole new crop of amazing characters to salivate over in the rest of the upcoming Bro Code series… and I can’t wait!!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
This book was a fun, sweet read full of great characters! I laughed, I cried, and I snorted in delight (only once or twice!). This was the first book I read by Pippa Grant and I can’t wait to dive in to more of her worlds!
I have to be honest – I wasn’t sure if I was going to like all the over the top craziness this book had – but OH MY GOODNESS! I am so in love with this story! I laughed a lot, but this book also has all the feels! I loved every crazy pirate antic!! FIVE HUGE STARS!!
I love a single parent book. I haven’t read much of Pippa Grant’s work, but I will be reading more of her work.
I thought I would find Wyatt and Ellie’s back and forth to be irritating. Surprisingly, it wasn’t. Ellie and Wyatt were snarky, funny, and entertaining. Tucker was the icing on the cake.
It seemed like there was a lot of backstory going on with the boy band issue, Jason and Monica, Wyatt being like another son to Allie and Beck’s parents, etc.
I honestly don’t think all of that took away from Wyatt and Ellie’s story and the crazy pirate theme running throughout.
I do have to add that the end of the book was confusing when the Beck issue was thrown into the mix. I wish the epilogue would have offered more info about what happened with Wyatt and Ellie. Other than them getting their HEA, which we knew was going to happen, I feel like it left us hanging.
This was a sweet, humorous, sexy fun romance. There are a number a laughs in this book. Even the couple of angsty moments don’t last long enough to detract from the lighthearted humor of this book.
I read this via Kindle Unlimited.
Love this story. Ellie and Wyatt are awesome. I totally want to go to Shipwreck for the Pirate Festival! Bought this last night and then stayed up until I was done reading. I laughed so hard at points that I was sure I was going to wake up the whole house. I want to go to Shipwreck and do all the things that the characters do in the book including meeting the cussing parrot! Could not get enough and I’m already considering reading it again! Love Pippa Grant’s books and style. This is another great addition.
Another great Pippa Grant books…and it’s not because of the goats or foul-mouthed parrot. OK, that has a little to do with it but if you know her books you would expect nothing less. Wyatt and Ellie are those people that have always been in each others lives but usually in the brother’s-BFF-that-annoys-you kinda way. Could what they feel just be friends commiserating or something deeper? Oh come on, we know but if you read this book you will enjoy their path to that answer and all the great characters Pippa has woven into their story.
This HEA burns down the house!
OMG! I FLOVE Wyatt!! And Ellie!! So f’ing fantabulous! I can’t stop making exclamatory declarations about this story! This couple!! Read this book!!! Sweet, sexy, HILARIOUS! All the things you love and expect from Pippa’s zany bookiverse!! I can’t wait to read Beck’s story!! I need to go read the epilouge now!! Fan-F-ing-Tastic!!!
Another , , can’t put it down read!
I have enjoyed all books written by Pippa Grant and fell in love with all the characters. This is especially entertaining. It is so very very good. The characters are going to stay with me for days. If you enjoy a really good romance with some loving but nutty friends, this is a must read for you.
I loved it. I laughed, I was entertained. Great characters and shenanigans. I can’t wait for Beck’s book.
I LOVE Pippa Grant’s romantic comedies. She always brings a lot of funny side characters and animals into the stories. I’m kind of afraid of what her real life is like; it’s got to be crazy fun. This story started out a little slow for me, probably because of the challenges the heroine and hero face. Ellie (the heroine) gets dumped by her starchy, uptight boyfriend right before Christmas. Wyatt (the hero) has his divorce finalized and will only get to see his seven year old son Tucker; (who is adorable) at the same time. Wyatt is in the Air Force, is best friends with Beck; Ellie’s older brother. They have grown up together. Wyatt has always pushed Ellie to be better at everything, but in an annoying big brother way and Ellie is funny and snarly. Add in sex together for the first time and Wyatt, saying it was a mistake (what, excuse me, is he crazy, never say that to a person after sex). But then after six months after Ellie has a card accident, the book takes off into fun times. Now add in Pippa Grant’s offbeat humor, crazy people, over the top town, strange stuffed parrots and a wild pirate wedding, oh yes and goats. I don’t want to spoil the rest, so buy the book read it, review, wait a few months and read the book again. Enjoy! I van’t wait for the next books in “The Bro Code”, Beck’s story.
Another wonderful hit by Pippa Grant! Flirting with the Frenemy had all the hilarious antics and awesome banter that this author is known for, and I enjoyed it all. Ellie and Wyatt have known each other for years and a majority of the time bickering with each other. Their story starts off the same. After Ellie’s boyfriend breaks up with her on Christmas Eve, she was licking her wounds at her parent’s house where Wyatt was also staying. Wyatt has also been put through the ringer. He was just served with divorce paperwork from a marriage that should never had happened, but with a baby on the way, he knew it was the right thing to do. But now with the divorce and his military commitment, he is only able to see his son once a month. After their usual banter, the night ends very differently, with clothes off and very satisfied, until Wyatt opens his mouth. This has Ellie, already having her self-esteem shattered, running which results in a horrible accident that has her recovering for months.
Now it is six months later with really no communications between the two. Ellie refused to take any of Wyatt’s calls, she wanted nothing to do with him, but with interference from her brother, Beck, they ended up staying in the same house with Wyatt’s 7-year old son. With daily close proximity, the chemistry that was always there comes to the forefront until they could not deny their feelings any longer. As much as they fought and antagonized each other in the past, I loved that they had this history and they were able to build on it. The only issue I had with this book was this curse that Ellie kept insisting they had from being together. This caused her to run again, granted there were some mishaps but it seemed silly to me. But other than that I really did love their story. A very fun and laugh out loud journey with a very satisfying happily ever after.
Before I picked up this book I heard rumors that other readers were saying that Wyatt was replacing Ares as their favorite Pippa Grant Hero. My immediate reaction was NO WAY!! Well, I just finished this book and it sort of pains me to admit that it might just be true for me too!
I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS love Ares but, man, Pippa really brought it when she wrote Wyatt.
Sexy military man
Single, AMAZING dad
Great friend
I mean, what’s not to like?
However, it’s the banter, chemistry, history and lifelong hostility between Ellie and Wyatt that really sealed the deal for me on this story. I LOVE a good brother’s best friend/little sister romance and this one was executed pretty perfectly. Despite the name of the series, the reasons for Ellie and Wyatt trying to avoid their feelings for each other went beyond the typical bro code reasons and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that.
Pippa Grant is quite easily my favorite rom-com author because of her ability to combine over-the-top humor, ridiculous situations (usually involving farm animals or exotic pets)with the perfect amount of emotion and romance that has me falling in love with her books over and over again!
