An all new flirty, lighthearted, standalone romance by New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg guaranteed to make you swoon. Blakely Foxx is having one of those years. Her divorce may have been finalized a few months ago, but her ex is already engaged to someone half her age. Her younger boss is determined to sabotage her chance at getting the promotion she rightly deserves. And to make … the promotion she rightly deserves. And to make matters worse, she’s closing in on the big 4-0. There isn’t enough wine or ice cream in the world to convince her things will turn around.
When Blakely meets Slade Henderson, she’s left wondering why an early-thirties, hotter than hell, cardiothoracic surgeon would take an interest in her.
She’s been warned that he’ll break her heart, but she’s willing to take the chance. Not only is he helping her get that promotion, but in the process, he’s encouraging her to find the parts of herself she’s lost over the past few years.
Slade shows her that good guys really do exist, but who knew the hardest part about turning forty would be realizing the man you thought was a rebound, is actually your happily ever after?

Blakely is recently divorced and is not looking for any relationships as she is nearing 40, and her ex left her with self-esteem issues, so when she is in a bar a sexy younger guy starts chatting to her, and she cannot understand why he would be interested in her. Slade is persistent though and when Blakely’s company is having a team building retreat including partners, he goes with her. This is a well written light-hearted and flirtatious tale which is fun, entertaining, humorous, and a steamy read. I was enthralled throughout this addictive page turner, and I highly recommend for all readers.
I read a lot of romance books. A lot, but it’s not often that I can say that I connect with the female characters as much as I connected with Blakely in Flirting With 40. I myself am a divorced woman whose long time marriage ended in a very bitter, very defeated me. I have so often felt that I lost myself in my marriage, I became such and such’s wife, I never did anything for me, and my identity was my marriage. I’ve spent the 4 years since my split finding myself again and learning to love me. Unfortunately I did not have a Slade to help me out there.
Okay so let’s talk about this book and how absolutely perfect it was. As I said I definitely connected with Blakely. My heart hurts for her at the beginning of this book because I have felt everything she has, the defeat, the hit to my self esteem, the desperation to not be sad any more. Then Blakely meets the gorgeous, slightly younger man in a bar and he pushes his way into her life and their love story even makes this bitter divorcee swoon.
I cannot wait for the audio book. With Zachary Webber narrating Slade it is sure to be amazing.

Pushing 40 can be so much fun!
K. Bromberg has given me exactly what I needed. There’s nothing better than a fun and flirty read with a good dose of swoon and hilarity to go with it. This book hit the spot and left me with that feel good feeling.
Blakely and Slade will put a smile on your face and have you in stitches more often than not (and I might add the good doctor will give you those butterflies in your tummy and have you swooning throughout the book). The secondary characters are some of the best I have read and add to the charm and reading pleasure of this book.
Flirting with 40 is a book that will turn your frown upside down and make you howl at the moon. It’s romance comedy at its best and one you will throughly enjoy.
If you’re looking for a fun, flirty, fantastic romcom with mature characters, then this is the book for you! As a reader of a certain age (over 40), I always love it when I get characters that are closer to my age, going through things that friends and people my age experience, and it is still a fun, engaging, passionate story! I also loved that this is a reverse age-gap romance, with a mature woman finding her second chance at a happily ever after with a younger man that appreciates her for what she is.
Blakely is recently divorced, having troubles at work, and she’s approaching age 40. When a younger man, Slade, hits on her, she can’t understand why (even though she is clearly still a prime catch). Her confidence has taken a hit. She ducks out on the gentleman, and does not expected to run into him again, but when she does, in front of her ex and his much younger fiance, Slade steps in as her ‘boyfriend.’ Slade, for his part, sees this as a second chance because he is immediately smitten.
A lot of this book is about Blakely rediscovering what she has to offer after her ex has broken her spirit and shattered her confidence. In Slade, she finds a confidant, a partner in crime, a second chance with a man that appreciates what she has to offer. Slade is charming, witty, open and honest, and he sees a real need in Blakely and he wants to help.
I loved how real, honest and frank this was. Blakely feels like a real woman with real problems and real insecurities, and K. Bromberg wrote her story in a way that feels genuine and organic. Blakely is on the mend and needs to do some hard work to get herself back on track emotionally, and Slade is so supportive and so sincere. The book also has a great balance of angst and fun, so while it could have been a really angsty and emotional book, it instead has just enough humor in the situations that makes it an easy and enjoyable read.
FLIRTING WITH 40 by K. Bromberg is a contemporary, adult, stand alone erotic romance story line focusing on thirty-nine year old, divorcee and business woman Blakely Foxx, and thirty-one year old, hospital resident Slade Henderson.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Blakely and Slade) FIRTING WITH 40 follows the building relationship between on thirty-nine year old, divorcee and business woman Blakely Foxx, and thirty-one year old, hospital resident Slade Henderson. Seven months earlier Blakely Foxx’s marriage ended in divorce and in the ensuing time her new boss has targeted our heroine in an effort to push her out of the game. Feeling sorry for herself, Blakely ventures into a local bar where she will meet hospital resident Slade Henderson, a man eight years her junior but the man with whom Blakely would fall in love. When her boss schedules a workplace team building weekend for employees and significant others, Blakely claims to have a boyfriend no body knows anything about.. Enter Slade Henderson. A weekend together where Blakely must face down her personal and professional demons find our couple pretending to be in a committed relationship. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Blakely and Slade, and the potential fall-out as their time together comes to a close.
Blakely Foxx struggles in so many aspects of her life. Nearing forty years old, and with no happily ever after on the horizon, Blakely battles between head and heart each time Slade Henderson offers a compliment or deigns to describe our heroine as beautiful and perfect. With issues of self-esteem, Blakely struggles with accepting his praise and insists that their time together is over and done. Slade Henderson’s life is currently on hold following an incident at the hospital months before. Offering to accompany Blakely on the ‘team-building’ weekend, Slade finds himself falling for a woman who is unable to let go of the past.
The relationship between Slade and Blakely is an age-gap romance wherein our heroine is eight year older than Slade. Not only does the age difference add fuel to an her already fragile self-esteem but her boss’ continued attacks threaten any hope of moving up in the company she loves. Slade is a man who fell instantly for our story line heroine, and in this, Slade makes every attempt to let Blakely know she is beautiful, just the way she is. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Blakely’s boss Heather, a woman jealous of, and threatened by, Blakely’s experience and knowledge.
FLIRTING WITH 40 is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; of betrayal and miscommunication; of acceptance and forgiveness. The premise is heart warming, captivating and fun; the romance is tender, seductive and provocative; the characters are spirited, flawed, and inspiring.
Somehow, K. Bromberg knew what we would need during these long, worrying days of the pandemic: a romantic comedy in which the woman is older and the younger man is scorching hot.
If you’re as exhausted as I am by older men and younger women getting it on in Hot Romance Novels, this is the book for you. Blakely is nine years older than Slade, something that bothers him (and his friends and family) not at all. Blakely, on the other hand, is troubled mightily. The age difference takes up a lot of her headspace, and she obsesses over it a lot. Too much, really. You kind of wish her best friend would shout at her to JUST STOP. Blakely realizes she does this overthinking thing, but the residue of her divorce weighs heavily on her, causing her to question and second-guess her decisions. She does not want another failed relationship.
Slade is the perfect man for her in every sense. He lets her be her, and when her mind starts over-processing, he gently pulls her back to what is real. He has his own worries and concerns, yet he compartmentalized, leaving space for both what weighs on his heart and Blakely, who lightens his world.
I loved the dynamic between those two, and I loved how their relationship unfolds. Slade is everything you want in a Hot Hero, and Blakely makes you root for her to overcome her fears.
Where to start and what to say about this wonderful read that captivated me from the first page to the last line. You know a book is special when days after finishing you are still thinking about the characters and the story and Flirting with 40 is one of those special reads.
Blakely Foxx is recently divorced, her ex is involved with a woman half her age, her boss is being a jerk and her 40th birthday is fast approaching so when she meets Slade Henderson she really struggles to understand how this swoon worthy man a few years younger than her can find her interesting and attractive. Slade is surgeon going through some issues of his own but that doesn’t stop this wonderful, caring, kind man putting Blakely and her needs before his own as he strives to help her get her confidence and her life back on track.
This book ticked all my boxes and it was everything I expected from the very talented Ms Bromberg, I loved Blakely and Slade, I was engrossed in their journey, I smiled and I swooned and as I said at the start I’m still thinking about this book days after reading. This book is certainly being added to my list of best reads of 2020.
Blakely has been having a rough time of life, divorce and the ex is already engaged again to a younger woman plus a new boss who is determined to ruin her reputation. Slade is a younger, cardiac surgeon and she can’t imagine why he would give her a second look. Can their chance meeting change her life for the better?
Oh this was such a sweet story. I loved how Slade sets out to make Blakely see herself as an amazing woman and prove to her that age is just a number. As a woman in my mid 40’s I can totally see how you might lose yourself if you ended up in her situation. This was a fun change in style for K Bromberg. Always looking forward to reading the next K Bromberg book.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Blakey is content with her life, after her divorce a few months ago she doesn’t think she needs to make waves or make any new changes to her life. But when she meets a younger man who is more than interested in her, she begins to think she might enjoy a little flirting.
Slade is on leave from his job. He was trying to protect a patient and others thought he went too far. When he meets Blakey, he wants to get to know her better. She is so different from the girls his age and he likes that.
As they spend more time together, they find that they are more compatible in more ways than one. They seem to need each other to make the other shine. Blakely needs Slade to show her the woman he sees in her. And that she can be the woman that he sees.
This is a fun, flirty, and sexy story with a HEA for a woman who found her true love turning 40. I love K. Bromberg, she has a way of telling a story that will capture your heart, sometimes the story will make you bleed and in the end, you will be whole again. Grab this one and enjoy the ride with Blakely and Slade.

Kristy you did it again and wrote another amazing book. I loved how this was about a woman in her late thirties and a younger man. Made me feel really close to Blakely knowing how she feels. Am I good enough? Am I showing my age.? Am I flabby? All questions I ask myself from time to time. But when she meets Slade, he doesn’t see anything other than a beautiful, strong woman who intrigue’s him. But when he turns to take a phone call, she disappears. But fate has other plans. They run into each other a week later. When Slade helps Blakely out it results in them having to spend time together. Slade needs a time away, so he doesn’t hesitate to accompany Blakely to the mountains. The chemistry and connection these two have is off the charts. They each make each other a better person. They make each other laugh. And they just have a great time together. I even laughed out loud reading about these two. Some of the things they did were pretty funny. Can a Blakely get over her hang ups of being older than Slade and can Slade realize that he be happy without going from one relationship to another? If your a fan of Kristy’s book, these is a definite must read.
K. Bromberg delivers pure perfection with Flirting With 40! This story has everything I look for and want in a romance! Definitely a top 2020 read for me!
Fun and flirty. Lighthearted and sexy. It has the perfect amount of emotion and a ton of feels that tug at your heartstrings. The chemistry, steamy sexual tension, and delicious anticipation are off the charts.
I am totally in love with Slade! He is the guy you dream of having. Cade is a cardiothoracic surgeon. In life, he is a fixer. Hence his career choice. He is funny, sweet, charming, and caring. He has a positive outlook on life that is refreshing. He had a curveball thrown at him and is trying to stay positive. He isn’t looking for any romantic entanglements, but after a chance meeting in a bar, Slade finds himself enamored with this beautiful red-headed older woman with a sassy attitude.
I loved Blakely. She was so relatable and stronger than she realizes. I felt as if I could be her. It was easy to see so many of Blakely’s insecurities in myself. Blakely is recently divorced and having trouble with her job. Her self-esteem has taken a beating; more than even she realized. When a hot, young guy starts talking to her at a bar, she can’t believe he’d be interested in her. She walks away and doesn’t look back. It never would have worked anyway, right?
My heart swooned so hard. This book was a delight to read. There were many laugh-out-loud moments. I was hooked from beginning to end. I couldn’t get enough of Slade and Blakely. Their chemistry sparked and sizzled. The age gap was not a factor or me. After all, age is just a number, right?! Kristy is an extremely talented author, and her ability to right relatable characters and beautiful plots serve as reminders as to why I love reading. Needless to say, I highly recommend reading this book! This book is a standalone with a HEA.
K. Bromberg nailed it with Flirting With 40 and I’m 100% head over heels in love with it!! I devoured this excellent, light hearted, feel good and meet cute romantic comedy. I couldn’t get enough of the witty, clever banter and laugh out loud moments between Slade and Blakely. The plot concept is excellent and so is the engaging storyline. Ms. Bromberg couldn’t have done a better job with creating realistic characters such as Slade and Blakely and I wish I had them in my life as they’re both down to earth, good hearted and caring people.
And I absolutely LOVED Blakely’s bestie, Kelsie. She’s the perfect sidekick for Blakely with her bold and no nonsense personality and everyone needs a bestie like her in their life. Flirting With 40 made my heart sing and it’s a definite must read!!
I’m so in love with Blakely and Slade, love is better for her the second time.
Closing on 40, Blakely is newly divorced, with an evil witch of a boss and the icing on the cake, her ex is already engaged to a younger woman. Slade, the younger very successful surgeon, is just what the doctor ordered for Blakely. Both of them are in the middle of a crisis, but are truly captivated by one another. Their story is fun, quite steamy, romantic with just the right amount of drama.
This book will have you laughing the whole time, and rooting for these two to find their HEA.
Oh my goodness! I feel so much better now that I have read this completely charming, witty book! Blakely and Slade are just a delightful pairing and won my heart over from the start. Blakely, all snark and defensiveness, is a beautiful nut just waiting to be cracked and Slade is just the man to do it, with his beautiful heart, lists and love for a dare. I am just so glad to have read it as it is book which highlights kindness, to yourself and to others. Do not hesitate! This is a one click piece of fabulousness!
4.5 Stars
This book made me so extremely happy. I’m completely smitten and I have the biggest pair of heart eyes for Slade.
Swoon-freaking-worthy, Slade was that and so much more. He 100% left me a swoony mess and constantly feeling giddy. He was an absolute gem and charming as heck. I most certainly had a massive crush on Slade and his easygoing nature.
Blakely has seen better days. She has a boss that doesn’t take her seriously even though she’s more than qualified and accomplished, an ex-husband who’s moving on rather quickly, and the fact that she isn’t getting any younger. She feels like her life just isn’t how she envisioned. But a run-in with a complete stranger at a bar might be the excitement she needs.
Blakely and Slade were so good together. I loved how determined Slade was in winning Blakely over. He didn’t care that she was older than him, he cared about how she made him feel. Blakely wasn’t so easily keen to Slade’s obvious advances, but little by little she let some of her guard down and gave him a chance. And boy did they burn hot, so much scorching and intense chemistry. There was no denying their passion—so addicting.
Flirting with 40 was a delicious age-gap romance. I really enjoyed the tables being turned and it being an older woman and a younger man. Blakely and and Slade brought the laughs, flirty banter, and the sizzling romance. An all-around enjoyable read.
Flirting With 40 was a fun book to read. This book starts with a meet cute in a bar between an older woman and a younger man and turns into a great age gap story.
Slade is a busy guy with his surgeon residency who finds himself with some unwanted time on his hands. He is nice, handsome and charismatic however is a fixer then leave her type of guy. Blakely is an older divorcee who was left for the younger woman. With problems at her job plus the divorce leave her with low self esteem Slade is the cure to all her woes.
They were a fun couple to read and I really enjoyed this book. I think it’s great to read the reverse age gap stories as there is still fun to be had nearing 40! Never too old for your HEA!
„It all begins and ends with the heart.”
All the swoons! K. Bromberg delivered such an unexpected and charming story that I can’t stop smiling. Flirting With 40 is a book that not only brings a lot of entertainment, but also tells you to take life for proverbial balls and live life to the fullest. To throw caution to the wind and be spontaneous. To say yes to all the things that you haven’t done before. To know your worth and reach for what you want. This book gave me such a boost of confidence that I want to put on my highest heels and set off to conquer the world!
It’s all because of the hero! I’m gonna call it a Slade-effect, because holy mother of bookboyfriends! This guy is incredible. Charming, funny, a little bit pushy, but in the way that brings the best out of you. He’s a good guy through and through. Generous, supportive, intelligent, fun. He immediately draws attention and his magnetism is so strong that it’s impossible to ignore. He oozes confidence and effortless allure and I swear if I knew him in real life I would eat out of his hand. And chain him to my bed.
Blakely has found herself at a crossroads in her life and she treats her setbacks as a personal failure. It took a toll on her self-esteem and somewhere along the way she lost her real self who desperately needs to be found to achieve her goals. This woman is a walking contradiction – on the one hand, she allows her insecurities to prevail, and in a moment she exudes confidence and sex appeal. Sometimes she’s overthinking, and sometimes she’s impulsive. Seeing her finding herself again and leaving doubts and inhibitions behind her was extremely motivating! And the new-found sassy and perky Blakely was an admirable person.
I love the fact that the age gap between the characters was barely noticeable. Sure, the metric holds true, but Slade showed such maturity that this difference faded into the background and was not an obstacle in itself. Their friendly banter and unrestrained passion brings to mind that first, exciting love. I just loved how their relationship evolved and how they brought out the best from each other. Their romance was totally heart-melting and swoon-worthy!
K. Bromberg delivered a refreshing and uplifting story that immediately puts a smile on your face. Flirting With 40 is touching, inspiring and addicting! This is the book that will get you out of every funk and give you a new zest for life. Completely unputdownable!
5 stars! Another great book by K. Bromberg. This is one of her lighter books, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a great in-depth story. Blakely is newly divorced and is struggling with life, especially at work with her boss. She meets Slade at a bar, where he keeps trying to talk to her even though she is trying to ignore and discourage him. This sets up a “fake” relationship that really isn’t fake. Blakely struggled with self confidence and her self esteem as she is older than many of her colleagues in addition that her ex replaced her with someone much younger. I loved that Slade built her up and showed her how her perception of herself was off. He is very sweet, swoony and sexy. Blakely’s boos, Heather , is the perfect antagonist…. there hasn’t been a character of K. Bromberg’s that I have disliked this much since the Driven series. This is a fantastic book and definitely worth the read!
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would.
It was a refreshing, easy to read, entertaining story that made me unbelievably happy and left me with a smile on my face.
The characters Blakely and Slade were hands down my favourite characters of the author and the witty flirtatious banter was amazing as well.
Where do I even begin with Slade. He is the epitome of a fictional book boyfriend! He’s incredibly charming, caring, thoughtful and knows just the right words to say. He’s so swoon worthy too.
A chance meeting at a bar has the storyline go in a direction you don’t quite expect. Slade is definitely good for a woman’s soul and heart too. I sighed alot!
There is just so much to love about a book where the words are inspirational and hit home.
I loved how Slade got Blakely to see her true self and her worth. Doesn’t everyone want someone like that in their corner. The ease of the friendship was wonderful and I just loved everything about it.
A true feel good story that will touch your heart and soul just as it has mine.
