39 year old divorcee, Blakely Foxx, steps outside of her comfort zone to check out a bar in the city when a guy slides into the seat next to her and begins talking to her. She gives him an earful of all the crap going on in her life, being rude and trying to shove him off, until she looks at him and sees how incredibly gorgeous he is. Not only that, but he’s a younger, hot, cardiothoracic surgeon. They begin talking but when she gets mistaken for his mother, she realizes she’s way out of Slade’s league and takes off when he’s preoccupied. Time goes on and they run into each other when Slade helps Blakely out of an awkward situation with her ex. That night, Slade makes a ‘to-do’ for the two of them to accomplish by the end of their time together. Eventually Blakely agrees to start a fake relationship with Slade and have him join her on a work retreat for 5 days, to help her get along with her coworkers and get the promotion at work. Slade is dealing with his own issues, while on a “sabbatical” from work.
This was my first read by K, and I absolutely loved it! It was sweet, cute, funny, and hooked me in from page one. I laughed out loud a few times! I’ve read a few age gap romances, but never where the woman is older; this was my first one. I really loved it! I loved how though their age gap isn’t huge, the fact that Blakely is older doesn’t bother Slade at all. I loved the characters in this book, their development, and the story line. Slade and Blakely’s Attraction is instant, feelings are quick, and their chemistry and connection is on fire. Slade is absolutely amazing. He’s sweet, patient, caring, encouraging, and everything that Blakely needs to find her real self. Blakely is self-conscious of her age and being surrounded by years younger coworkers, not to mention her ex-husbands younger fiance. With Slade’s encouraging words, she begins to find the courage and confidence she needs to stand up to her younger boss, all while falling head over heels for this younger man. She’s incredibly strong and overcomes so much in this book.
Love how they were not looking for love but found it
This book is funny, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
“Flirting with 40” is the light hearted, funny, and sweet love story of Blakely Foxx and Slade Henderson. Blakely is nearing forty, recently divorced and has a job with a not so nice boss. Top that off with her ex having a much younger girlfriend, soon to be wife and poor Blakely is not so happy. That is until she meets Slade Henderson at a bar,
a handsome, rich, confident man, not to mention he is a heart surgeon. With his help she can convince her boss that she is the right person for the job, show her ex just what he is missing and learn how to howl at the moon. Not bad at all for a nearing forty woman with a younger man who knows exactly what he wants. Throw in a little angst and get ready for a fantastic read.
Five “It all begins and ends with the heart” stars for this one!!
This was such a lighthearted, sweet, flirty, sexy romance. The age gap is less than 10 years and to be quite honest I don’t really notice it unless Blakely points it out. Blakely is approaching forty and divorced. She is throwing herself into work and she is determined to land a big promotion. The competition is vicious and her boss is not so friendly. One day after work, Blakely was having a peaceful drink at a bar but she was rudely interrupted by a hot cardiothoracic surgeon. She gave him some tongue lashing but that did not scare Slade away. Slade is on a little sabbatical from work and Blakely is dreading going to a retreat with her co-worker alone. Slade was persistent and after a few discussion, Slade joined Blakely at her retreat and the rest is history. Gotta love the hero – Slade is not only smart, handsome, successful, he is also charming and confident about what he wants (who he wants) and is not afraid to go after it. Blakely is obviously having a hard time with the age difference. On top of that she has been warned that Slade will break her heart. So, I totally understand her internal conflict. Slade is so caring and always make Blakely feel beautiful and comfortable in her own skin. He encouraged her to find the parts of herself she lost over the not so happily marriage. With a little bit of trouble with Slade’s professional life, they kind of find comfort in each other. I like that they have an playful, low drama, low angst, flirty relationship going on. It’s refreshing and page turner. Highly recommend this fun and feel good romance.

I Absolutely loved this book, K.Bromberg always knows how to make you feel the emotions in a book, the story line was lighthearted, sweet, romantic and the chemistry between the characters was beautiful. Both characters are so lovable and this story makes you question why its acceptable in society for a 60 year old man to be with a 20 year old woman and unacceptable for a 39year old woman to be with a 31 year old man, what a crazy world. This book was an all over feel good read that will make you smile and your heart burst with emotion for these two wonderful characters.
Oh my, what a truly wonderful, feel good audio. 39 year old divorcee Blakely Foxx meets 31 year old cardio thoracic surgeon (say that 3 times fast) Slade Henderson when she’s at a really low point in her life. Slade is fun, flirty, sexy, endearing and just what Blakely needs. When Slade agrees to go on a mountain retreat with Blakely they both get more than they bargained for. Let’s face it, their chemistry was off the charts, so a few nights away was always going to be ‘more’. Slade was just perfect, always boosting Blakely’s ego and tamping down her inner demons (of which she had a few, thanks to her jerk of an ex). Such an enjoyable audio, made so much better with perfect narration narration from two of my favourites, Emma Wilder and Zachary Webber. All the feels, I just loved it.
I honestly havent laughed this much for a long time. 40 years Rom-Com? Kristi had delivered the story like a homerun. A touching story of a lost Blakely Foxx, the divorcee of 40. Who doesnt feel the similar struggles? I DO! This book had spoken a lot of my personal experiences.
Miss Blakely, you and Slade had really colored my days with your antics. I had so much joy just to see you twos arguing for being a fake couple. RomCom with sexy flirty teaser.. Hmmm, helllo my cheeks were hurting from reading too much of yous
NO SPOILERS!
Who knew K. Bromberg could write a romantic comedy? Flirting with 40 was a sweet, funny, sexy, flirty, swoon-worthy, and lighthearted standalone romance, and I absolutely loved Slade and Blakely’s story!
Bromberg did a phenomenal job with Slade and Blakely’s fake dating, opposites attract, older woman/younger man story. I laughed, smiled, swooned, and loved every moment from beginning to end. The conclusion was perfect and made me very happy.
Slade and Blakely were AMAZING, and I loved them to pieces. They were incredibly lovable and had fantastic personalities. I adored Slade and Blakely’s red-hot chemistry together, and enjoyed all of their witty, playful, and sometimes dirty banter and interactions with each other. Slade was totally swoon-worthy, and I was seriously jealous of Blakely. He was one in a million, and I loved him with all my heart. Blakely was wonderful too, and together, they were a perfect match and complemented each other extremely well. It was an absolute delight watching their romance unfold.
Flirting with 40 was the perfect escape and another MUST READ from K. Bromberg! Slade and Blakely’s sweet, sexy, funny, swoon-worthy, and lighthearted romance was amazing in every way, and you won’t be disappointed!
I loved K. Bromberg’s “Flirting with 40,” a cute, sweet, and funny story which featured endearing characters and an engaging plot that kept me turning the pages well past my bedtime. The flirty banter between main characters Blakely and Slade was a ton of fun, and I particularly appreciated Slade’s efforts to help Blakely feel good about herself in the wake of a difficult divorce. My favorite part of this story was the way Blakely gradually regained her confidence, thanks in no small part to Slade’s encouragement, and decided to go after what she wanted in her life and career.
I fell in love with Slade just as much as Blakely did; he has definitely earned himself a place on my list of best book boyfriends of all time! I appreciated how kind, caring, and protective he was, both as a doctor and as a friend/boyfriend. He genuinely wanted to help Blakely even though he barely knew her, and despite the fact that he was suspended from his residency, he couldn’t help breaking the rules and checking in with the hospital because he wanted so badly to know how his patient was doing.
Overall, I read this entire book with a smile on my face, and I highly recommend “Flirting with 40” for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to seeing what K. Bromberg writes next!

It would be rather shocking if I didn’t love anything written by Kristy, her style always draws me in and leaves me wanting more which I believe is the perfect recipe for any book that will stick with you long after reading it.
I did find it interesting reading Blakely’s (39) perspectives as I am 40 and don’t feel old like how she viewed herself. Age aside, Flirting with 40 was a sweet romantic read with a healthy dose of humor, sexy times, and a little angst!
Absolute perfection!! Flirting with 40 was a charming and delightful story of self-discovery with lots of humor, steam, and fun. I loved it!
Blakely Foxx will be turning 40 soon and she just got a divorce. She’s fighting for her job with her new younger coworkers and she’s struggling with her identity. Enter Slade Henderson. After a few chance encounters, Slade and Blakely embark on a fake relationship to help her relate to her coworkers and to rediscover herself.
Blakely was so real. I loved her and feel like we could be friends. I was rooting for her to stand up for herself against the awful Heather and for her to take what she wanted. It was a joy to watch her move from a timid, self-conscious woman to a woman full of life and self-confidence.
Slade was like a dream come true. He was hot, sexy, caring, funny….the adjectives could go on and on. Plus he’s a heart surgeon. All he wants is to help Blakely see herself the way he does. He completely accepted her for who she was and didn’t want to change her. Sigh…he’s just dreamy.
I loved these two together. They were fun and steamy and so supportive of one another. They just got each other.
Flirting with 40 had one of my favorite tropes in it which is a fake relationship plus it’s an age-gap romance. I highly recommend this fun, flirty romantic comedy. Put it on your to-do list!!
Oh K. you have captured my heart and made we swoon with Slade and the lovely Blakely. This was a sexy, flirty, funny read with amazing chemistry, sizzle and oh the witty intelligent banter!!
Blakely is our heroine flirting with the 40, she is recently divorced, working toward a promotion at work, battling the dating scene and dealing with a mean girl at the office.
Slade …what can we say he is in his thirties, a up and coming cardia surgeon, has a fabulous group of friends and knows exactly what he wants when he sits down next to her at a bar.
This couple is so refreshing and I loved the way they built one another up to take on their lives hurdles !!!
Loved it !!

Blakely Foxx, is turning 40, she feels as this year has been super hard on her. She’s now divorced. She’s single, she loves her job but hates one of her new bosses.
Slade Henderson, is 31, currently in his residency program at the hospital. Slade has always been a fixer, he sees something that is broke, he wants to fix it. Slade see’s Blakely one night in a bar, and begins chatting with her. He sees that she’s been hurt, and that she’s lost herself. Slade shows her that good guys really do exist.
Blakely has been warned that he’ll break her heart, but she’s willing to take the chance. Not only is he helping her get that promotion, but in the process, he’s encouraging her to find the parts of herself she’s lost over the past few years.
Blakely has a 5 day ‘camping’ trip with her work, and she asked Slade to be her fake boyfriend for the trip. The work trip is supposed to be a bonding experience with her co-workers, but, the boss who is in charge of it, Heather is a horrible leader. She’s driving a wedge between herself and the other co-workers. Slade is there to make light of the situation, which he does. Blakely knows she can’t fall for him, that this ‘relationship’ is all about her getting over her ex, however, all she wants is Slade, even after they return to the city and their ‘real’ lives. She wants him.
Now that they are back in the city will Slade forget about her, and move on since she’s older than he? Is Blakely just over reacting and putting too much thought into her head? Will Slade be able to realize that he wants Blakely?
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.
So fun and easy to read. Absolutely loved every second. Loved every moment of this book. Sooo good.
Flirting with 40 was a delightful binge read! Once I started reading, I simply could not put it down. Slade is PERFECT in nearly every way. And for those who are flirting with 40 (or looking at 40 in the rear view) will relate to Blakely on many levels.
Adorable, fun, and real, Flirting with 40 delivers an age gap romance with a fake dating spin. Both Blakely and Slade are high achieving professionals who have high expectations of themselves. Blakely’s marriage recently ended, she is struggling with her new boss, and she is starting to have crippling self doubt. Honestly, I could relate to Blakely on many levels. Something about hitting 40 sort of reframes your perspective on certain things. I can’t imagine how getting a divorce at this same time would further impact those feelings. Oh, and Blakely’s ex…yeah he is already engaged to a 20 something woman.
Slade is in his last year of residency, but is currently suspended. He is smart and sexy, but hasn’t really been a relationship guy. I loved that Blakely sort of threw him off kilter and made him evaluate his feelings.
Blakely and Slade are the top reasons to read Flirting with 40, but Bromberg delivers so much more. There are some fun scenes that will have you laughing out loud, some scenes that will have you cheering for Blakely as she stands up to her boss, and some emotional scenes that will have you wanting to hug the characters and make things better. Honestly, Flirting with 40 was just incredible in so many ways and I loved so many things.
K. Bromberg captivates my heart again! I loved this older in age romance. The usual is young people in love. Who says after a certain age you can’t find love? This story shows that love is found at any age. Especially at almost 40 (come on, that’s not even old!). Blakely is just going through the motions in life. She has been in love in forever. Her husband who didn’t deserve her left her for someone younger. And she is fighting for a spot in her job she deserves but being told she is too out dated with her methods. Then she meets Slade and everything she believes about herself is about to be debunked buy this sexy, younger cardio surgeon. Slade has his own issues to deal with. He doesn’t commit. His work is his life. Then Blakely captivates him and his main goal becomes showing her how wonderful she is and how she has so much love to give. If you love age gap romances this is your new favorite. And it’s got all the steam we love in a Bromberg novel. Really most of the time I forgot there was any sort of age difference. I loved this story from start to finish. I fell hard for this couple and their story. I rooted for both of them in their struggles. This is the ultimate story of taking your life back. These narrators were the perfect Blakely and Slade. No joke! Their chemistry in their voice was apparent. A must read/listen all around!
I can’t even with this phenomenal read!!!!
A hero that is so swoon worthy, nice, funny, absolute perfection.
A heroine so amazing but filled with doubt. She’s taken some hard knocks…
They meet unexpectedly and Blakely unloads her shitty times on who she thinks is a pest. Only to have Slade take it all in stride, tongue in cheek humor.
LOVED THIS SO MUCH!
Fake relationship… small age gap…. effective list making. And heat did I mention heat!!!! Yesssss
Highly recommend
K. Bromberg
OMG!!! I have one word that comes to mind and that’s UPLIFTING!!! Such a feel good story! I fell in love with Slade!! K. Bromberg has written such a wonderful and thought provoking book, full of wisdom and how to acquire inner strength!! Freaking phenomenal!!
Flirting With 40 is an age gap romance. Generally this trope is not one that I’m drawn to but I love just about everything K Bromberg writes so I gave it a go, and it’s safe to say I wasn’t disappointed.
Slade is the younger man. He’s charismatic, charming, intelligent and has a reputation as a ‘love them and leave them’ type of guy. Despite his reputation he’s actually a thoughtful, kind, optimistic, caring and loving hero.
Blakely is the older woman, who is reeling from the dissolution of her marriage, and has taken a hit to her self-confidence. She’s insecure and vulnerable after he ex left her for a younger woman, and is doing her best to discover her new identity. Add in the fact that she’s fighting for a promotion, and proving her knowledge and worth to her younger boss. For anyone near forty her faults and feelings are quite relatable.
The banter between this pair is fun and flirtatious, and Slade and Blakely’s story is a sweet, sexy, fun and low in angst read. Flirting With 40 is not only engaging but completely entertaining.
