Please note, Fling is a standalone novella – about 80 pagesI have a crush on my boss’ best friend. At least its not my brother’s best friend.Or my best friend’s brother. Or… never mind. It’s all pretty cliche. And worse? My boss’ best friend is his business partner. Which sort of makes him my boss too. Okay – it’s not sort of. It’s definite. Gabe Laurent is off limits. Totally off limits. Which … sort of. It’s definite. Gabe Laurent is off limits. Totally off limits.
Which is fine. I make do with my imagination. He’ll never know. Ever. Unless my work bestie passes me an eighties-style teen movie sex quiz during a meeting and I fill it out.
And it ends up in Gabe’s hands…

This is one of those boss/employee once removed novellas that has all the elements we love: a playboy needing reform, an inexperienced and smitten lady, the “nobody touches what’s mine” moment, and that first encounter that neither know how to describe. The only thing missing was getting a hotel room where the party/gala/event is being held.
Sandra and Gabe have help from their friends getting together. The New Year’s Eve party thrown by the company is an ideal scenario. I was really enjoying this pair and this book.
Ahh! I’m so glad Sandra and Gabe get a short story! I loved it! I read Trust first and then I started the series so Fling was actually the last book of the series to me and it was so wonderfully played out! Sandra is super sweet and shy, Gabe is gorgeous and used to the flash lane! I loved this little office romances! All the books in this series are age-gap romance and they are so perfect! I’m sad these characters have come to an end!
Jana Aston blends humor, lust, and awkward situations to make a drool worthy romance that even I can imagine. So off the wall and yet highly plausible, Wrong series is all right!
Fling is a sexy novella of workplace lust. It’s the perfect ice cream sundae of fun. This quick listen/read is enough to take the edge off or amp it up.
Erin Mallon has always been a favorite of mine. Now, I am developing an aural crush on Lance. Never can have too many narrators to drool over!
Quick & Cute!
Cute, timid Sandra has a crush on the CFO of the company she works for. When a piece of paper with some frivolous information on it, makes its way to that said CFO, poor Sandra is mortified.
Thank goodness for when Everly enters the picture to push Sandra and Gabe together.
This novella was short but oh so sweet to catch a glimpse of the beginning of Sandra and Gabe’s relationship. They’re so sweet and adorable. I feel like this FLING makes me blush! You’ll want to continue reading on with the series!
So glad Sandra had her story! Everly still cracks me up trying to help her. You get a little replay with Sandra’s POV from the New Year’s Party.
I wish it wasn’t so short and get a little more but it was still very fun and loved it!
I was wondering if there was going to be a book about Sandra! I wish it was longer than a Novella though! This was a great tie into the series by adding Sandra who was in love with her bosses partner.
Fling (Wrong Series #3) by Jana Aston is a contemporary, age-gap, workplace romance novella told in first person, dual POV.
Sandra has a secret crush on one of her bosses. She doesn’t directly report to him, but Gabe is definitely off-limits because he’s the CFO and her boss’s business partner. He’s also a big playboy. So what happens when Gabe gets his hands on a sex quiz that Sandra filled out? Or when Everly, Sandra’s boss’s girlfriend, decides to get the two of them together at the holiday office party? Will they have a fling or will it turn into more? Read the book to find out.
I enjoyed this story. It was quick, lighthearted, and fun with some very steamy scenes. I wasn’t expecting Gabe to be such an alpha-hole, but I still loved him. Sandra was sweet and reserved, but the two of them together were hot. Preston was a fun character that brought a lot of humor to the story as did Everly, the wild crazy heroine from book two, Right. This was a fun read.
What started as flirting looks throughout the second book Right, Gabe and Sandra take it to the next level, and start a Fling. This novella is super quick and develops at a fast pace. Sandra is coy and at times quite bashful which only turns Gabe on more. Each encounter they have, makes them realize that this could be more than a fling. Gabe’s character becomes dominant in this book and he even has a jealous side. Sandy was exactly like we saw her in Right, but once the bedroom doors are closed, well she came into her own, and did the walk of satisfaction!
I love this book! I read it every couple of months just because it makes me laugh. And I adore these characters.
A short story following on from Right, involving Sandra and Gabe. Super steamy and really sweet. Ms Aston writes a very witty read.
Super cute, adorable, and hot! My only problem was that I WANTED and NEEDED more of Gabe and Sandra!
Only downfall, IT’S TOO SHORT!!!! I get that it’s a novella, but UGH I so want more of Gabe. The cover and those GLASSES!!!!!!
A really quick, fun and short read but enjoyable nonetheless.
There isn’t much to say because as soon as I was fully engrossed in this story it was over but I liked the writing a lot and the characters were lovable. I will definitely read more of Jana Aston’s work. (I actually bought some of her books already but didn’t find the time to read them yet.)
The Story:
Sandra can’t stop looking at gorgeous Gabe when he’s around her. What’s wrong about that? He’s her boss’s best friend and his business partner. This makes him off limits. When she fills out a sex quiz passed to her from a colleague while in a meeting she is mortified when it lands in Gabe’s hands because she might have written his name on it…
Super cute, sweet and easy to read! …And Hot!!!
“Just breathe, just breathe. Act normal. Act like Gabe Laurent did not just lay you across his desk and go down on you.”
Short and to the point, but sexy! I love Sandra and Gabe, so great together. I wasn’t sure how much I’d like Gabe, because he came across as a little bit of an ass at first, but he redeemed himself fairly quickly. Sandra is Sawyer’s assistant (from Right) and Gabe is the CFO of his and Sawyer’s company. Sandra has always had a crush on Gabe but never thought he noticed her until one unfortunate sex quiz later (written by Gabe’s assistant and Sandra’s friend, Preston) where Sandra admits how much she wants him. I love the way Gabe ferrets out that it’s Sandra who wrote her answers to the quiz and the sexy way he initiated their first steamy encounter. Whew!
But my favorite thing is the epilogue, so sweet and adorable. I’m sad that this series seems to be over now, but am really looking forward to more of Jana’s sexy alpha men and the sweet heroines who love them.
Oh my word this one was so much fun! So many funny moments and banter. I love great banter in books. I loved Sandra, especially when she had her rambling freak out moments. But that sweet and shy girl who thought she was no fun certainly got her sexy specks wearing guy! Oh and Preston, love him! I’m still giggling about the girl code and Whisper Wednesdays part between him and Gabe. Fantastic novella!!
5 “Maybe she just thinks I’m old” Stars!
Sometimes I have these huge bursts of inspiration when I write a review. Sometimes I think the book speaks for itself and my reviews are heavy on the quotes. This is probably going to be one of those. Jana just slips so many little gems into this novella that I have a hard time saying anything beyond “Awesome!” “fun!” “light-read” “hot sex” “great characters” I know, I have a way with words. So, for this review, check out some of the “awesome” stuff that happens. You know, without being all spoilery.
Gabe is an alpha male. We all know this–well, we do if we’ve read Right. We love the alpha male. So, therefore, we love Gabe. And if you think this is too narrow a mindset, don’t. Gabe is fun (see what I did there?).
I can’t recall the last time I’ve had to do more than flash a lazy grin or at most a wink before the woman in question picked it up from there. I’m a lazy prick, apparently
Sandra is that quiet, girl-next door type. You know the type, the quiet, shy, introverted girl who goes out of her way to please others. She’s had a crush on Gabe for-freaking-ever.
This may never happen again. I want to experience everything he has to show me.
Preston, Sandra’s gay best-friend and Gabe’s assistant, is hilarious. I love him (Jana, if you ever want to give us his back-story, I’m a huge fan of m/m. Just sayin’) and he’s the best friend I wish I had.
Somehow human resources only assigns me gay men or women old enough to have birthed me. I suspect that’s on direct orders from Sawyer. Dick.
Gabe is interested in Sandra. Sandra is interested in Gabe. But how do you take the socially awkward and get her in bed with the hot alpha she’s into?
Easy. Bring in a crazy person. Enter: Everly. You should remember her from Wrong and Right. Plus, she’s Sawyer’s woman, which is why she’s around to stick her nose in this set-up. She’s also freaking awesome.
“You lazy fuck, she’s not going to ask you in. Man up and invite yourself. Then take off your pants. See you Monday.”
Want a little more to convince you to grab Fling? Here ya go:
Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to pound the fuck out of her, but I’m not a goddamned teenager so I won’t be rushed.
“No, I said the opposite of ‘go for it.’ I think I used words like, ‘stay away from her’ and ’employee.'”
“Why are you here?” I blurt out. Smooth, Sandra. But I need to hear the words. “I heard you were here.”
This is a super fun, fast read.
In the book “Right”, Sandra & Gabe totally sparkle as small secondary characters, so it was very satisfying to get a bit of their story…and there is definitely more to them then just what was hinted in “Right”.
For a short novella both characters got reasonable hurdles to overcome, and they got to have fun together–not just sex but teasing…even though they didn’t get a huge story, this was worth it. It’s a novella, but Aston definitely put work into this story.
What I appreciate about Aston’s writing is her sense of humor, and now that I’ve read 3 of her stories it is clear that her characters are all unique. The men are alpha-types, but they express that differently, and what attracts them to their women is specific to their character. The uniqueness of characters is especially evident with the female protagonists. How they express themselves, think about themselves & what they want is unique to their journey. All together it makes me have faith that I can follow Aston and know that a new book means compelling stories, complex characters, and witty humor …not just a change in hair or eye color for each title.
Wish it were longer! Love Sandra and Gabe’s story!
A quick sexy read. Only wish it was longer. Love this series. I recommend reading this after Wrong and Right.
