I’m reading it now and loving it!
Just finished this FABULOUS book. Going to gush a minute here. Wish there were better words than “I loved it” to describe the way I feel right now, but that’s the best I can come up with so it will have to do.
This book had me hooked from Chapter 5. I felt like I had stumbled into an episode of I Love Lucy due to all the crazy things that seemed to befall Miss Isadora Delafield, one of the primary characters in the book. As I got farther into the story, I decided it was more of a mashup between I Love Lucy, one of my favorite shows, and The Beverly Hillbillies. I have chuckled and laughed through every one of Jen’s books, but this one takes the cake.
I am so very sorry to see this book come to an end but am glad to know that there are more books to read in this series. I highly recommend this book and wish I could give it 10 stars, as that’s the rating I feel it deserves. Hats off to the author for a job well done.
I received a copy of this book from Bethany House on behalf of the author in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and a positive review was not required.
Ms. Turano has written quite the start to her new series American Heiresses. Within the pages of this novel is laugh out loud antics, animals galore, and imagery that makes you feel apart of the story.
Besides the fun that Ms. Turano is known for in her stories she out does herself in her latest novel adding not only fun animals like a cow that roams the house, and a chicken named Elmer, but she adds the most adorable children to the mix that will just melt your heart.
The romance isn’t without incident both Isadora and Ian learn that honesty is truly the best policy. There is swoon worthy romance that will enchant romantics everywhere. As with all Jen Turano’s novels the historical element is well researched.
I had the best time reading this novel and found myself laughing out loud a LOT as well as shaking my head with the antics of every character, mainly Isadora.
Here’s just one of my favorite quotes . . .
“And you thought it wise to provide a woman who’d gotten herself stuck in the wringer of a washing machine with a rifle and bullets?”
I highly recommend this book!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book via the publisher in association with Jen Turano’s Street Team. I was not required to write a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Oh my goodness! This heroine! Such a delightful story on so many levels — the heroine and her ineptness at most domestic chores aside, the children, the aunt and uncle, the town, the cow in the drawing-room, and Elmer the chicken! It’s a wonderful cast of characters, and I loved how the author gave the heroine tremendous value without immediately adding to her skillset. In fact, the poor character had to continuously admit she was horrid at yet one more thing. The storyline was good and the hero appropriately tough and romantic. I loved it!
Ahhh!!! Another fun read by Jen Turano. This was a wonderful story about finding what your true purpose in life is. With crazy farm antics, hideous rashes ,a handsome “manly man” and a sprinkling of witty dialogue your sure to keep turning pages and not want to put the book down.
I loved this book. It was so funny and hard to put down. Izzie an American heiress doesn’t want to marry the dastardly Duke who her mother thinks she should. She and others (won’t tell you who) help her run away on her “Flight of Fancy”. This is where hilarity ensues and she learns maybe she isn’t ready to be who she is trying to pretend to be. However boy does she try! Clean Fun Read
Not sure how I feel about Tish. Have liked some of MRR’s previous books that I read several years ago. One of my favorites was “The Yellow Room” which belonged to my mother from when she was young. I am 72 so that was quite some time ago.
Jen Turano always makes me laugh, and Flights of Fancy was no exception. This delightful beginning to a new series features heiress Miss Isadora Delafield posing as a housekeeper for Ian MacKenzie’s adopted parents.
An heiress who has never completed menial tasks in her life is bound to face some challenges as a housekeeper at a farmhouse. Thus begins mishaps with a pond, a washing machine, and a chicken.
Curious? You should check it out for yourself.
Turano crafts a great story with the same wit that made me fall in love with her books in the first place. The only thing I enjoyed more than Isadora and Ian’s interactions were the precocious children Ian takes into his home.

Just love her books!
Omg!! I love Jen Turano’s stories!!
They are so sweet and funny, the characters are so endearing, and the plot has unique twists that keep me captivated from page one! That’s what happened when I first read “A Change of Fortune” and there hasn’t been a book of hers that has ever disappointed me!
Well “Flights of Fancy” was no exception! This is a new series that I’m already hooked with!
Isadora “Izzie” Delafield is an American Heiress whose mother is forcing to wed into an arranged marriage to an older earl.
Izzie is aghast and in her desperation, decides to flee and search for a new life where she can choose whom to give her heart to…
Ian MacKenzie is young businessman trying to make his way in society and business. Things are going mighty well, until he meets Isadora, just when his adopted parents are in need of a housekeeper and she is looking for a job. He never expects Izzie to turn his life upside down on the farm or to be charmed by her innocent and straightforwardness.
It’s a delightful story: mix in a runaway heiress, a no nonsense businessman, a farm with animals and four adorable children, and you got a story that will make you laugh and cry at the same time!
Izzie and Ian captured my heart! I hope they capture yours too! I promise you won’t regret reading this story and find yourself wanting more of these characters!
The romance is sweet and clean, and so tender! And the plot was original too! Kept me engaged from page one!!
I totally recommend it to Historical Romance lovers who like sweet stories with some humor in them!
Flights of Fancy by Jen Turano is the first book in her American Heiresses series. Miss Isadora Delafield flees her home in New York and the unwanted attentions of the Duke of Montrose. Arriving in rural Pennsylvania in answer to an advertisement for a housekeeper, Izzie is not prepared for such a demanding job. As an heiress she’s never had to work, and now she’s responsible for a household of six! This makes for some very humorous situations. I loved the determination and humor that Izzie displayed when each new trial came along. Finding out your purpose in life is hard sometimes, but Izzie came through with flying colors. It was great fun getting to know Isadora and Ian and watching their love develop. This story had it all; romance, danger and a mystery, animals and irresistible children. Add them all together and you have a great Jen Turano novel!
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Two words, “good stuff”! Wonderfully written, and it just gets better the more you read. The characters are so memorable, you just can’t help getting attached, even to Buttercup the family cow! Definitely a MUST read! It was romantic, heart-warming, enlightening, inspirational, and as always fun as all get out. I love how Jen doesn’t just drop you when she is wrapping up a book. I loved the last chapter and epilogue (where you will find those two little words).
Love Jen Turano books…fun reads!
Jen Turano’s latest historical novel Flights of Fancy is a delightful, humorous story that readers will not want to put down. American heiress Miss Isadora Delafield is forced to flee New York to escape from her unwanted suitor the Duke of Montrose. She ends up seeking employment as a housekeeper in rural Pennsylvania and is reluctantly hired by Mr. Ian MacKenzie for a position that she has no experience doing, considering the fact that unbeknownst to him, she is a high society young woman. In true Jen Turano fashion, there were so many moments in the story where I burst out laughing, such as when the goats were eating the clothes and when Izzy was trying to do laundry and got the clothes she was wearing caught in the wringer. I would definitely recommend this book to fans of historical fiction who love a good sense of humor.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House through NetGalley and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Authentically quirky and occasionally zany, this heartwarming story proves that you can indeed take the city out of the city girl and with entertaining results! This book is Jen Turano storytelling at its finest, including the irresistible combination of children and animals.
Isadora has a good heart, one open to new perspectives and experiences. Her journey of self-discovery and budding faith is the foundation of this adventure. Ian’s colorful background and eccentric collection of family and friends provide ample levity. His ability to excel in both the business world and the hard work of life on a farm increases his appeal.
Whether readers will finish this story and long for a hobby farm or a butler is a complete toss-up. Turano skillfully crafts a uniquely entertaining and genuinely heartwarming story filled with her trademark humor and suspense. I highly recommend this story, and I’ll be sharing with both my teenage daughter and my grandmother as well.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
Jen Turano is one of my favorite go-to writers. With her introduction to her latest series with Flights of Fancy, Turano did not disappoint. From the first chapter, I was drawn into the world of Izzy in New York and wanted to know more about this Duke fellow. Within a couple of chapters, Turano had me laughing out loud as I pictured some of the images she created with her words. She does a wonderful job at coming up with really hilarious scenes, but she allows me to have a moment of breather too. The story moved at a nice pace, and I completely got wrapped up in Izzie and Taylor’s life. True to Turano fashion, the romance had me laughing, and I loved how she has the couple connect with a piece of literature, which she has done in a couple of her other books. I love watching the characters interact during this time period. Turano included a quick moment of suspense near the end of the novel, and it didn’t feel out of place for me. It seemed to fit right in with what Turano set up in the beginning chapters. Overall, Jen Turano created another hit out of the park with Flights of Fancy. I anxiously await what comes next in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of Jen Turano’s Flights of Fancy from Bethany House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Another lovely and swoony historical romance from a talented storyteller. I look forward to every book this author puts out because I can count on great romance, quirky characters, and laugh-out-loud situations. This latest book fits the bill. Full review is at my website.
I received this book complimentary from the author. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are my own.
Whenever I’m in the mood for a rollicking good historical romance with lots of comedy and wit, I turn to one of my favorite authors, Jen Turano. She knows how to create delightful scenarios that are guaranteed to tickle my funny bone and keep me giggling and chuckling. Situations that should sound preposterous somehow fit Turano’s madcap heroines perfectly, and I’m not at all surprised at the crazy things they do. With a definite knack for choosing the perfect names for her characters and plopping them down in the middle of deliciously funny adventures, Turano is a brilliant story teller.
Flights of Fancy was another great book—this time featuring Isadora Delafield and Ian MacKenzie, both fabulous characters who are endearing, lovable, and vividly-drawn. A charming cast of secondary characters, which include Buttercup the cow and a hen named Elmer, along with 4 adorable carrot-top children, wound their way into my heart. The witty banter and delightful escapades kept me turning pages.
The underlying messages that wealth and social standing don’t guarantee happiness and success in life, and that obstacles can make us stronger and better people added a spiritual message that deepened the story for me. I loved this quote, “. . . God occasionally throws obstacles our way so that we’re forced to grow into the people He wants us to be. You are far stronger than you think. I imagine, even with must seem like insurmountable mountains placed in your path, you’ll soon discover strengths you never knew you had.”
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.
This had what I enjoy about Jen Turano’s stories: funny banter and antics, likeable h & H, great secondary characters. It had a good message about keeping yourself grounded and keeping your priorites straight. Some of the situations are pretty hilarious or over the top(but not in a negative way) I can’t wait for the second book.
A delightful read with special characters that will warm you down to your toes. When Isadora Delafield meets Ian Mackenzie her world will spin faster than a top as the heiress who has never done anything herself attempts to be a housekeeper in his home. Add a wonderful Aunt, Uncle, four orphans, and an assortment of animals and you have a great story to snuggle down and read.
