I received a review copy from eBook Discovery and this is my honest opinion. This book opens with a bang and never lets up. Samantha ‘Sam’ Starr manages to run from one potential disaster to another and always come out on top. I thoroughly enjoyed the action and the characters in this book. It was a nice change to have the ‘hero’ with mega-skills be a woman instead of a man. Of course, we can’t have her develop all of her skills by herself: she was trained by her older twin brothers who are Seals and Navy pilots. But we have to give her credit that she had the foundation for them to build on…;). I appreciated that the author included a bit of romance without making that the focus of the story and without the seemingly required sex scene. I prefer my mysteries and thrillers without all of that. This would have been a solid 5-star rating for me if not for the injury to the kidnapped boys. That was unnecessary in my opinion. However, it is a good story otherwise.
I did notice that one reviewer was unhappy with what they termed ‘a cliffhanger ending’. It doesn’t come across that way for me. In my opinion, Lord Sweetwater represents the overall arc of the series and ties them all together. Otherwise, it is a series of books with a few characters in common. I appreciated that this story was resolved while leaving tie-ins to the following books. I definitely recommend this series.
Great book
This was an excellent read. I could hardly put it down. Great to have a female hero, in an adventure book.
Hard to put this one down. Lots of action and thrills. Nice to have men women and children all in leading roles. A must read.
Amusing and easy to read. To read this book means to suspend disbelief; it is absolutely required. The number of times that this woman escapes from highly trained and motivated troops from both friendly and enemy services is just too much unless you have suspended disbelief. Still, it was fun. I loved the little boy and his role-model Harry Potter giving him the courage to get through, and knowing what to do and how to do it. A tasty little snack of a read.
Fast paced with twists and turns, hard to put down.
Enjoyed it!
The story line was interesting and exciting. The main character took way to long to get the kid back to his parents. The situations that kept moving her away from making this connection felt too contrived. The writing felt a bit stilted at times so it was a bit hard to identify with the characters.
This book was refreshing, very well written, with a very ingenious heroine. She used every trick in the book to avoid capture! I loved it!!
Female almost super hero
A fun read!
Lots of action to grab me and pull me into the story – and it certainly did! I really loved Samantha Starr. She is well-developed and totally believable. The story is well-written and I am so happy that this is book 1 because I can watch for book 2 now!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Clever Samantha manages to save a plane full of passengers and crew, then goes to the Highlands for vacation. Sam being Sam, she naturally manages to stumble onto a kidnapping attempt. Sam and a very brave Charlie survive a wild variety of adventures.
Still, they must survive the recovery of the kidnap victims, and the dirty cops who were tangled in all the mess. Not a relaxing holiday by any means.
Clever, action packed drama and romance!

She’s a believable heroine and role model
The action-packed first chapter of Flight to Redemption by S.L. Menear jerked me into this contemporary suspenseful romance. Granted, the plot is heavy on the action and light on the romance, but still every page held my attention. Ms. Menear’s writing is descriptive and the plot is tight. Captain Samantha Starr was a believable heroine and she sets the bar high. Except for the minimal swear words, this story is suitable for most all readers.
I suppose I have only one complaint. Since this is a series about heroine Sam Starr, the over-arching plot is not brought to conclusion in the first book. The immediate threat or danger is averted, but there is a semi-annoying cliffhanger and to get to the bottom of the mystery, a reader must read the series.
Content: This book contains some swearing (d*mn, h*ll, s*hit, g*d) but no sex.

bad
Too many James Bond moments. Not realistic
I liked the main character and her grit. However, with each scrape she got out of they became more and more unbelievable to the point of being ridiculous.
If it was a toned down a bit it the book would have been so much better.
writing was very amateurish
