Technology, legal expertise, a newspaper expose and murder leave many questions to be answered.
This is a complex story with layered characters and a theme of Truth that is woven throughout.
Savannah Daniels is dealing with a case that takes all her concentration, until personal concerns get in the way, issues that pique her resolve to protect her niece, Addy.
Journalist, Jett Glover, who strives for the truth, has written an article about Dustin Tate, Savannah’s ex-husband, that is threatening to complicate her life. They reluctantly work together to solve an evolving mystery.
This is a craftily written plot with a little romance for good measure. It has an underpinning of faith in God by the principle characters that asks us to think very carefully before we judge others.
Well done by a master of romantic suspense, Cara Putman.
*I won this book from Kav Rees of Best Reads Blog. All opinions are my own.*
This was my first book by this author. There were aspects of this book that I did enjoy, but I didn’t connect with the story as much as I would have liked.
I really liked Savannah. She had accomplished a lot despite some major struggles in her life. I loved how strong she was and how devoted she was to her niece. She started her own law firm and had loyal employees/friends, which says a lot about her character.
Even though I enjoy a bit of romance, I think I would have liked a bit more detail in the mystery/suspense aspect of this story. I wish there had been more about the plane crash and more clues about who the culprit was.
**I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.**
Wow what a ride. I thoroughly enjoyed this Legal Thriller. It is well researched and well written with a romance included and shows that you can’t always believe what you read in the newspaper or hear on the news. The characters are very likable and very real. Cara Putman has done an outstanding job on this book and it will keep you enthralled through every twist and turn. I thought I had it all figured out but no, I didn’t until the end of the book. Don’t miss this one. I think you will love it like I do.
Flight Risk was the first book I have ever read by Cara Putman and my first legal thriller. The pace of the story definitely kept my interest and I wanted to get to the end to finally have answers to my questions.
The story was filled with characters you love and characters you really aren’t fond of, but all the characters had a lot of depth to them. There are so many complex issues addressed in this book…loss, grief, addiction, reliability of news, human trafficking just to name a few.
After reading this, I discovered that some of these characters are originally in her Hidden Justice series so I definitely need to add those to my TBR.
Flight Risk is an engaging legal thriller and an enjoyable read. I liked this book, but I didn’t connect to it as much as I wanted to.
The suspense was solid and completely riveting! The author did a wonderful job escalating the tension with multiple plot lines -the aftermath of a damaging expose, a stressful lawsuit with possible ties to a plane crash, and a villain lurking in the shadows – until they merged into a satisfying climax. It was definitely my favorite part of the book!
I really liked Savannah, a hardworking and guarded attorney with deep wounds from a complicated family situation (her ex-husband fathered her niece while they were still married). I instantly empathized with her and admired her choice to be a steady adult figure in her niece’s life in spite of the constant reminder of betrayal and an unrepentant sister. I also liked how she consistently took her troubles to God in prayer and trusted Him. However, it was extremely irksome how much she enabled Stasi’s addiction, irresponsibility and entitlement and, unfortunately, I felt like it wasn’t resolved in a satisfying way.
As for Jett, I thought he was okay. Personally, I think it’s hard for main characters with careers as reporters to be viewed as likeable because of what they are willing to do in a pursuit of a story. For the first half of this book, Jett fit that description for me; he’s pushy, rude, and all of his encounters with Savannah are attached with a request for information or a favor. But when Jett helps Savannah out of genuine concern for her well-being and makes it his priority to find the truth when his potential award-winning expose is questioned (and people related to his article start to die), I saw him as a man of integrity and someone who genuinely wanted to do the right thing.
Considering how late in the novel my opinion of Jett changed, I think that affected the lack of connection I had to the romance. Plus, I felt like there was a cloud over the romance considering how Jett’s article impacted Savannah’s family, especially since the validity of it is questioned; however, the author addressed my concerns in a tactful and appropriate manner.
All in all, Flight Risk was a good read and I liked to read more from this author in the future.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
This was a new to me author.
Unfortunately I struggled with this. Couldn’t connect to the characters and story didn’t flow well.
Gutted as it held a lot of promise. Would still be interested in trying author again in the future.

“Even in the absence of peace, she had a choice. Trust God or take control.”
Savannah Daniel’s already demanding schedule is thrown into overdrive following the publication of a newspaper article citing her ex-husband’s patterns of over-seas travel as proof of his involvement in a high stakes trafficking scheme, causing her young niece (Dustin’s daughter) to crumble. Shortly after the expose’s release, two of her law clients fall under suspicion by the F. B. I. following a Washington, D. C. plane crash; ironically, Savannah’s ex-husband and one of his associates were passengers on that very plane. Contributing even more stress is the fact that the journalist who broke the original story, Jett Glover, is pushing Savannah for more details about Dustin’s supposed business partners. It’s a train wreck of circumstances, just waiting to happen. And it does.
“Flight Risk” has some amazing story threads; what initially appear as totally disconnected scenarios, eventually merge together rather brilliantly. Even though the multiple demands on Savannah’s time are mentally exhausting, and the cautious relationship that she forms with Jett doesn’t really have the space it needs to flourish, the author ends really, really well . . . for she proves that the truth is worth Jett’s tireless efforts and that Savannah’s heart can risk taking flight a second time.
This is a fast moving legal thriller that combines mystery, suspense, and romance while taking on difficult topics – journalistic integrity and human trafficking – and complex family relationships.
Savannah is a strong intelligent woman, whose family relationships are complex (and unusual). She relies on her faith to cope with difficult situations. A successful patent lawyer, her latest case involves a technology related to the aircraft industry. When a plane goes down with her ex-husband on it, Savannah (and this reader) can’t help wondering whether it is merely a coincidence. And so the questions begin. Jett, on the other hand, is a self-righteous journalist with very strong feelings about “fake news” – he is determined to report nothing but the truth. Jett has published an expository piece on Savannah’s ex and his pals – making accusations that she has trouble accepting at face value. Given their conflicting opinions, it is no surprise that these two main characters disagree, despite the strong undercurrent of sexual tension between the two. Nonetheless, the two find they need to work together to discover the truth.
There is much more to this story than initially meets the eye. Surprises abound as the story unravels – with enough suspense to keep the pages turning way past my bedtime.
i enjoy legal thrillers, and having an author with a law degree like Cara Putman, makes them that much better. Savannah is trying to defend clients that have a system that works from a satellite like a black box on an airplane. Jett is a newspaper reporter that has written an explosive article about four men that are involved in sex trafficking in Thailand. their lives collide as Savannah realizes one of the men is her ex-husband. Jett is a truth seeker and digs more into the issue as the men are being murdered. Savannah is concerned for Addy, her exes daughter, and begins working with Jett. There was lots of intrigue and action that held me captive as i read. This was a great read that has a surprising conclusion. Be prepared to be spellbound. i surely was.
i received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review.
Oh my goodness, this story kept me interested and engaged from beginning to end. I absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop reading!!
Although the truth may seem clear in back and white, sometimes it’s not that clear and straight forward. Journalist Jett finds that out as the men who were recently featured in his hit story keep coming up dead.
Lots of twists and turns with suspense and drama all throughout the story. Some light clean romance towards the end.
I loved the main character Savannah (attorney) and her determination to help her niece and to be strong for her family even when others didn’t appreciate her or want her help.
I highly recommend reading this legal suspense and thriller. However, you won’t want to stop reading once you start! I can’t wait to read more books from this author. I really enjoy her writing and clean suspense stories.
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read. This author has proven herself tremendously in this genre. The idea of the book is all about getting at the truth. That is definitely ripped from the headlines these days. It’s so hard to find truth amongst the lies. The plot was a fascinating one…one that kept the reader guessing as to where exactly the truth was.
I liked the characters as well. Savannah has a complicated life, but she tries to be there for her niece despite her incredibly busy schedule. She was easy to like, had far more patience than I would with many things, and was a mostly believable character.
Jett was like able, but a bit too stiff. I think by the end of the novel the reader knows him.The only real characteristic that sticks out is that he wants to print the truth and only the truth. That’s a terrific goal, but not everything is always as it seems. His character fell a bit flat for me as a hero, but I am positive many readers will not feel that way.
It does have a faith theme in the book…and of course, the entire book is about truth.
This book moves at a good pace, and I enjoyed it. I’m not much into the sex trafficking subject as it’s a difficult one. However, it is definitely current, and one that is a real problem. The book held my attention, and I eagerly await this authors next read.
I received this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Flight Risk by Cara C. Putman is definitely worth reading if you love inspirational suspense novels. I loved it and will definitely read more books by her in the future.
Savannah Daniels and Jett Glover find themselves thrown together when they are trying to find out about a sex-trafficking ring and who is involved in it and why those who have been implicated are dying under mysterious circumstances. They both find trusting each other difficult, but when Savannah’s niece becomes a target Savannah knows that the best person to help her find answers is Jett even if he was the one who initially threw her life into chaos. Jett has to face the fact that writing this story has catapulted them all into this danger and chaos and that this may have been the worst mistake of his life.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
Flight Risk
Cara Putman
Savannah Daniels is a successful lawyer who has worked hard to make a name for her practice. The one failure that has broken her is her marriage that failed, a marriage that she never wanted to leave. But 9/11, work, and betrayal brought it down. The only good thing she got out of it was Addy Jo, a niece that she loves and who needs her when life at home just gets to tough.
When Savannah’s ex, Dustin Tate, becomes the feature of an exposé, she has to wonder if she ever truly knew him. But regardless she’ll be there for her niece. When Dustin and one of the others named in the exposé are on an outgoing flight that crashes Savannah finds herself having to deal with Dustin face-to-face for Addy’s sake. Dustin claims that he has evidence that the allegations against him are false.
Jett Glover is committed to the truth and he puts in the research behind every story he puts his name to. He stands behind the exposé he wrote. After all, he’d never want to put someone through what he went through when his father was the victim of a false newspaper report. But when those named in the exposé start dying he fears that his story may behind it.
Savannah’s current case is soon entangled with the downed plane and Jett’s exposé but trust isn’t something she is willing to give after Dustin’s betrayal. But someone seems to be targeting her too so working together to get to the truth is something she has to do.
Now I can’t see anywhere that this book is part of the Hidden Justice series but it seems to go with as most of the same main characters from the other books are in this book (working with Savannah in her practice). This book can easily be read on its own as the story is contained within the covers but if you want to read it as if it is part of the series it would be book 4 chronologically. This book has a good dose of mystery and legal suspense with a medium-sized pinch of romance. If you are familiar with Cara Putman’s previous works you will not be disappointed in this one. Also, it was interesting to get a glimpse into Savannah Daniels’s life as she has been a background character in the first three Hidden Justice books. Overall a good read perfect for a weekend escape from the comfort of your favorite reading corner.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher via The First Editions with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.
As always Cara Putman gives us a great read. I loved the suspense throughout this book. The characters don’t let you down. The characters learn a lot of lessons and trouble seems to follow them. I did not want to put this book down. Savannah and Jett fairly quickly learn that they need each other to help solve the cases that they are both looking into. I was on the e die of my seat at times needing to know what was coming next. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
Wow! Where to start! Author Cara Putman books are many things. They are many levels, fast-pace, full of action, suspense legal thrillers that will pull you to the edge of your seat, biting your nails until long after the last pages are read. And they deal with difficult issues so realistic and with the most incredible characters, you feel as if you are reading the newspaper. I have read many of Ms. Putman’s books, and I believe this is her best so far.
Savannah has her own law firm and she is good at what she does. But what’s worse is her dealing with her too needy and unstable sister and helping her niece. I can understand the fierceness in wanting to protect her niece because I have several nieces, and several great nieces and I feel her loyalty and protectiveness. When Jett comes on the scene, a budding journalist with a story of a lifetime almost under his belt, he had to grow on me a bit because a pushy journalist just gets under my skin. But as he and Savannah worked together trying to figure out what is going on, I was glad he was on her side. There’s really several stories going on here, a lot of twists and turns, but aren’t they the fun part? I always try to solve the issues and find the guilty one for myself, but this one had me stumped until the end.
This absolutely amazing heartwrenching story is certainly one you don’t want to miss. And if you have not read anything by this wonderful author, now is the time to do that. Just hang on to your seats a d go for it! You will love it!
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
My Thoughts on Flight Risk:
What a fun book? There are so many different layers within this book that will hold you in their power and make you want to keep reading.
Savannah is quite the lady. She was married to a wonderful man she loved or maybe still loves. But then he wanted a divorce. He cheated on her with her alcoholic/drug-addicted sister and they had a sweet wonderful little girl who Savannah helps to care for.
Life never goes as planned. Savannah knows that her ex will always be in her life as long as she wants his daughter in her life. And since he’s often gone flying planes and the girls mother certainly can’t be trusted to raise her, well, Savannah is always there for her. Even if it’s constant pain.
But what happens when a nosy reporter decides to do an expose? And what he’s going to print isn’t the truth? Can the truth come out? Will it be too late?
The reporter says that Savannah’s ex-husband, as well as three other men, went to another country and prayed on young girls. Savannah knows that’s not true. He niece knows it can’t be true. But someone thinks it is. And someone will stop at nothing until he has acted out “justice” and killed them all.
Can the reporter make things right? Will anyone be left alive?
Great book. I really enjoyed it. It read quickly and the characters were relatable and each had their own issues that really made you connect to them. I highly recommend this book.

FLIGHT RISK by Putman is a well-written and intense legal thriller with a bit of romance mixed in. This is not my first book by this author as I am a great fan of her suspense books. This book did not disappoint and was one that held my interest from the first chapter until the last. Savannah Daniels owns her own law firm, has great friends, and is very protective of her niece, her sister’s child who also happens to be her ex husband’s daughter. Jett Glover is a journalist who seeks out truth and makes sure the facts all line up. Writing a story on human trafficking , he feels sure he has all the facts/truth, but something doesn’t quite add up. A plane crash with the three men on board that he had written about seems suspicious and it affects Savannah both personally and professionally. Was his article really about the true facts or did he blunder?……… I received a complimentary copy of this book. Thanks to Thomas Nelson via NetGalley and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and are not biased in any way.
At first, all the players and pieces in Cara Putman’s new legal suspense don’t seem like they fit together. But there were several aha moments in the second half of Flight Risk.
Savannah is a tough, no-nonsense lawyer whose drive has propelled her to the success she has achieved. Jett is a no-nonsense reporter determined to get his story, but when he learns one he’s written may not have included the correct facts, he’s ready to uncover the truth.
These two characters grow individually and together throughout the book. At first, I wondered how in the world they’d be able to appreciate each other (don’t fear, it comes). Add in the complicated relationships Savannah has with her ex, her sister, and her niece, and Putman steps up the conflict.
There’s also a mystery to solve with a suspicious plane crash and other suspicious deaths. But the relational dynamics are what really drove this book.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
In the terrible aftermath of tragedy and murder, Savannah had to make a choice that most women used to being in charge didn’t like making. It is a choice each of us makes, often without realizing it. “Trust God or take control.”
This fabulous legal thriller, first in a new series, includes everything I would expect to see in a John Grisham novel with one notable difference. This future best seller is offered with a healthy serving of faith in the Lord without preaching. The characters are well-defined. I love this small circle of friends who keep each other in prayer. The setting for this fast-paced novel is across the Potomac River from Washington DC. It is a complex mystery and compelling read, not the kind of book one can pick up and easily set it aside an hour or so later.
Attorney Savannah Daniels is turning 40 and has a challenging case in mediation regarding technology that would replace the black boxes on airplanes. The partners have invested most of their savings and that of their families in the patented item, and are now being sued by a competitor who claims their technology was stolen.
Savannah was divorced fifteen years ago, and is seldom in contact with her ex-husband, Dustin. He once had an affair with her sister Stasi, and they have a beautiful teen daughter. Addy is the light of Savannah’s life. Stasi had an on-the-job injury that she claims is the reason behind self-medicating with alcohol. Dustin, an airline pilot, loves his daughter but is often away. Addy spends increasing more time with Savannah.
Jett, a reporter for Washington Source, tried to meet with Savannah regarding an article he was finalizing that included her ex-husband, but she refused to comment. The story broke amidst preparing her clients for mediation. Dustin was discovered piloting friends Logan, pro baseball player, Evan, and one as yet unidentified man to Thailand to have parties with young girls in the sex trade. The next day, a plane Dustin and Logan were on crashed after leaving the nearby airport. Dustin survived, and he told Savannah that he has proof he was not in Thailand for that purpose. It was merely their cover.
Jett and Savannah have opportunities to talk again. When Dustin is found dead in his apartment by his daughter a few nights later, it is initially thought to be suicide, but anomalies may tell a different story. Jett, upset that his article may have prompted Dustin’s death, wants to work with Savannah to help find the truth. In the meantime, her clients’ product is implicated in the plane crash, even though they were required to stop testing until the lawsuit is resolved.
What a breathtaking novel! There are several plot twists, one that I thought would be the end despite I was sure whodunit. This faith-filled novel has it all, from messy and realistic family situations to events that could be ripped from today’s headlines to the possibility of romance that Savannah had given up on years ago. Savannah and her close friends are women of faith and prayer. Some scenes are intense and not gruesome. The end was overall very satisfying, and I am looking forward to seeing Savannah and her associates again! I highly recommend this to those who appreciate legal thrillers with faith, grace, hope, and possibly romance.
From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this novel from Celebrate Lit and NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
