Flight Risk by Cara Putman is a romantic legal thriller that features Savannah Daniels, a lawyer, a sister, an ex-wife, and an aunt to Addy. One of her clients, Mnemosyne plans to launch an alternative to the black box on airplanes. There has been an accident, a plane has crashed with her ex-husband, Dustin Tate, and his friend, Logan Donnely, a celebrated baseball player is killed in the crash.
Jett Glover, a reporter, is investigating these two men for trafficking young girls. There were three men who took slights back and forth to Asia. Soon they are all dead. Jett gets close to Savannah and they team up to investigate what really happened to these three men and how did the plane crash and why?
It appears that the trial black box replacement somehow got on the plane and caused the crash. Who put it there and why? Now can Savannah trust Jett? How can she protect her niece, Addy, and sister, Stasi from the killer? As the story goes on, the reader gets to know the characters and the plot.
I liked this story, it kept my interest and it moved smoothly to the end of the book. Well written with twists and turns to keep the reader interested. The author uses her legal background to flesh out a believable story.
I recommend this book for the mystery/thriller lover!
Flight Risk begins as an easy read that quickly becomes multi-layered and complicated.
Haunted by his father’s death because of a flawed newspaper article, journalist Jett Glover is committed to finding the truth in his work. He reaches out to the ex-wife of one of the men in an expose` he’s writing about human trafficking. The woman brushes him off and his editor runs the story.
Savannah Daniels is a sharp copyright attorney approaching forty. Though divorced for fifteen years, she’s still tied to ex-husband, Dustin Tate, by Addy, the fourteen-year-old he fathered with Savannah’s sister, Stasi.
When Jett’s explosive story becomes public, Savannah rushes to Addy to shield the child from public scrutiny, but before they can make sense of it all, Dustin and his friends are involved in a major plane crash. Though they survive the crash, the three men die in quick succession under mysterious circumstances.
Savannah is stretched thin as she tries to support Addy, deal with the aftermath of the news article, Dustin’s death, and his insistence he had proof of his innocence. Proof he never got to share with her before he died. She also has a major case in mediation she’s determined to win because her clients’ invention could make the infamous black box recorder aboard planes obsolete.
And there’s still Jett Glover, always nearby… with questions.
I liked Jett. His father’s death shaped his life and directed his path. His confidence is shaken with the thought his article led to the deaths of three men and all he wants is redemption. His attraction to Savannah bothers him too, yet he wants to pursue it.
Savannah Daniels is a contradiction. Tough, super smart, and “savvy,” her small law practice attracts high-profile cases and eager young attorneys because of her reputation. However, her personal life is a mess. Though she does have good friends, her evenings are spent with her rescue cat. Dustin’s betrayal left her with major trust issues, and understandably so. Her niece is the only thing that can—and does—pull Savannah away from work. Her boozy, pill-popping sister, Stasi, is indeed the weakest link, and got away with far too much and got off too easily. I couldn’t figure out why neither Savannah nor Dustin hadn’t filed for custody of Addy or why Addy hadn’t run away screaming like she was on fire!
Tension builds as Savannah is attacked multiple times, Stasi gets arrested, and the FBI takes an interest in Savannah’s copyright case. Could her case be connected to the plane crash and Dustin’s death? Where is the fourth man? And who is the mysterious woman from Thailand?
I thought I had this one figured out until Mr. Plot-Twist grabbed me by the neck! HA! I did NOT see that coming! Excellent!
Nice ending and good to see Savannah open to a relationship with Jett.
We’re all searching for good reads during these times of sheltering in place and quarantine life. Add Flight Risk to the top of the list!
Enjoy!
The best part of this story is the pure “realness” of Cara Putnam’s characters. I can see them and hear them as if they are sitting right next to me, as if they are flesh and blood.
FLIGHT RISK by Cara C. Putnam is a new romantic suspense with a hero, heroine and plot that make it impossible to put down!
Savannah Daniels has worked hard to build a prospering law firm filled with trusted and loyal friends since her divorce fifteen years ago. Savannah has trouble trusting since her ex-husband’s betrayal, but she would do anything for her young niece, her sister and ex-husband’s daughter.
Jett Glover is a newspaper man fiercely dedicated to only writing the truth. His father committed suicide when Jett was just twelve years old after a reporter ruined his reputation with false reporting. Jett feels like he has the story of his career, a famous baseball player and three others are all implicated in an international sex trafficking ring. He has checked all his facts and his expose is printed.
The printing of Jett’s story and a commercial airplane crash somehow tied to two of Savannah’s clients are colliding with the start of the murder of the men implicated in Jett’s article. One of those men is Savannah’s ex-husband. Can Jett and Savannah trust each other enough to work together to discover the killer? Will the truth of Jett’s article be the whole truth?
I read this book from start to finish in one sitting. Savannah is such a strong and intelligent heroine, who is giving to everyone, except herself. She is so wonderful to her niece, even with her personal heartbreak and betrayal. Jett is wonderful at accepting Savannah as she is, but he wants her to let him in and trust him. This is a cozy romance with no sex, but a growing relationship based on learning to trust again. All of the characters in this story are fully fleshed and realistic.
The plot is fast-paced and continued to surprise me with several twists and red herrings. The author had my emotions all over the place and they were intricately intertwined with the characters and plot. This is listed as a Christian thriller besides being a romantic suspense. There are a few places where Savannah prays for strength or guidance, but it is never out of character for her or an interruption to the flow of the story.
I highly recommend this romantic suspense and I cannot wait to read more of this author’s books!
Flight Risk by Cara C. Putman is an excellent legal thriller. Ms Putman is an expert in matters of law and in storytelling. This shines through seamlessly in her books. Here, she takes on the topic of sex trafficking. The story is a fantastic example of Christian suspense and readers of legal thrillers will especially love this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Flight Risk is the perfect book for trips, beaches, cozy evening fireplace, etc. The story was so engaging, flowed so well, the pages whipped past. So what made this story so amazing?
Let’s start with Jett. Gold medal character. I’m not going to spoil this for you but, he was unique, intriguing, a person you could pick out of a crowd and chose to spend hours getting to know. He was flawed yet honest. Not an actor playing a part-this guy was real. Well, I could go on for pages, but Jett, was definitely … yeah. No cookie cutter.
Next, Addy, such a teen. Eye-rolling one second, standing up for her family the next. This treasure lived a difficult life, but thanks to her Aunt Savannah, she just may survive. Loved this girl.
Look for the Cinderella moment. swoon. 🙂
Sometimes we read books that take pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, shake them up in a box then open it with the puzzle put together. So unbelievable, right? But Flight Risk carefully tucks loose threads into the fabric of the story and in the end the reader closes the book and thinks, this was right. And come away satisfied.
Huge theme of this book: truth. Loved it. Highly recommend this book.
Just discovered Cara Putnam and I’m searching for her books.
I really enjoyed Savannah’s story and am so happy that Cara Putman wrote it for her readers! I liked that Savannah is on the older side as it’s rare, I think, to find a heroine in romantic suspense who is 40. It was nice having someone closer to my own age and I don’t think the story was any less romantic or suspenseful because of her age. The story was engaging and I liked that it tackles a topic that is very much under-reported in today’s news. This one can be read as a stand-alone but if you’re looking for more from these characters, check out the other Hidden Justice titles.
Flight Risk was one of those books where everything is going wrong for almost every single character in the book. And something that I liked about the book was that not all the problems were solved by the end of it. The characters still had a lot of problems, but they had each other and they had God. They made a conscious decision that they would let go off of their past hurts and trust that what they had was enough.
Flight Risk is about a reporter named Jett Glover who printed an article about four people who go to Thailand, party and do all sorts of horrible things with young girls. One of the men happens to be Savannah Daniel’s ex husband. While the article devastates Savannah’s niece, it does not cause any real damage until the men in the article start to end up dead. Savannah suspects that something deeper is going on, but Jett is convinced that what he wrote is the truth. However, he starts to work with her to find out why someone is so determined to kill the men in his article. And because it’s a romantic suspense novel they fall in love.
I actually enjoyed Flight Risk a lot more than I thought I would. Even when I read romantic suspense, I do not usually read the most intense books, so I wasn’t used to Cara Putman’s style. But I thought the characters were really interesting and the twists and the turns of the book were shocking. I liked Savannah right away, but I had to warm up to Jett. He’s quite arrogant, and he has a lot of issues with his childhood which makes him act like a jerk sometimes. However, I ended up really liking him because he’s loyal and steady even if he is overzealous.
I really enjoyed Flight Risk, and I definitely would recommend it. But I didn’t read the other books in the series, and while I understood the book completely, I think I would have enjoyed it better with the other books. This book is an adult book, but I don’t think that there was anything inappropriate for a teen. There are some heavier themes, but nothing too bad. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
Cara Putman’s latest is quite a ride with smart twists and turns that keep you wondering who can be trusted. Like always, Putman has a strong heroine fighting for justice, but this time, the danger strikes closer to home. I enjoyed both the mystery and the love story—compelling on both counts. I highly recommend!
Attorney Savannah Daniels is working on a legal case for Mnemosyne, a new form of black box for aircraft. Journalist Jeff Glover is working on the piece that might earn him a Pulitzer, an expose of a famous sportsman and his dodgy holidays to Thailand with three other men. Their paths intersect because one of the men Jeff is investigating is Savannah’s ex-husband … and the father of her niece. Savannah finds herself in the middle of the mystery when a plane crashes with the sportsman on board … as well as a Mnemosyne box.
Yes, the plot is more complex than most. There are plenty of twist and turns, and a few red herrings. How did the box get on the aircraft? Is Susannah’s husband the dodgy scum Glover’s article implies? Is there a conspiracy, or is it all a series of odd coincidences? Questions. Lots of questions. Even better, the questions and answers all make sense in the end (unlike some suspense novels where the big reveal is tied to a logical impossibility).
Flight Risk was my favourite kind of romantic suspense novel, one that grabs you from the get-go and doesn’t let up. I’m usually a fan of character-driven fiction. This was more plot-driven, but in a way that was totally compelling. It’s another must-from a top Christian romantic suspense author—I think it’s one of Cara Putman’s best.

Flight Risk is about Savannah Daniels, a tough attorney who has too much on her plate — a law practice, a drug-addicted sister who takes advantage of her at every opportunity, and a teenage niece in need of a loving and responsible care giver. When Savannah is questioned by reporter Jett Glover about illicit activities of her ex-husband, Savannah is unconcerned. The marriage has been over for 15 years, so it’s not her business. But when the story breaks, and then a plane crashes, and then there are other mysterious deaths, all of which involve people mentioned in the article, Savannah and Jett both wonder if there was more to the story than anyone knew — and if they can piece together the truth before the killer finishes the job.
I found Flight Risk to be full of action, emotion, and excitement. Savannah was likable, and I could empathize with her as she struggled to maintain relationships under difficult circumstances. I also enjoyed Jett’s character as he is emotionally open and honest and protective. The story moved at good pace and kept me interested. Overall, I really enjoyed Flight Risk and look forward to checking out more books by Cara Putman.

Flight Risk brings back several favorite characters from the Hidden Justice series. The plot centers around Savannah Daniels. A series of tragedies strike her family as her ex-husband is accused of unspeakable crimes and Savannah tries to shelter her niece from the fall-out. Reporter Jett Glover broke the story of Savannah’s ex, but Jett works with Savannah to see if there is more to the story than what he reported.
If you love Cara Putman’s Hidden Justice series, Flight Risk lives up to the suspense and heart-felt characters you’ve come to expect. Savannah is a complex character, and her chemistry with Jett wasn’t an immediate love at first sight, which I like. It allows readers to get to know each character while they dodge danger and try to connect several complex mysteries. Definitely put this novel on your wish list or pre-order. Flight Risk definitely delivers on high-adrenaline action and suspense, with emotional elements that give the reader a thrilling yet satisfying read.

Truth…..what is it? Savannah Daniels, attorney, is trying to find out the truth about her ex-husband whois accused of sex trafficking and then commits suicide. She is also trying to find out the truth about how a new black box invention mysteriously shows up on a plane that crashes. Jett Glover, reporter, is trying to discover the truth when the three men he accuses of sex trafficking die unexpectedly. To discover the truth behind all of these things, Savannah and Jett must work together before the enemy destroys even more. Flight Risk is full of intrigue, suspense, and a touch of romance.
“We’re all one choice from a life change.”
In this spin-off from The Hidden Justice series, Cara Putman once again brings her audience a fast-paced, satisfying read that combines action-packed suspense with legal drama and romance. The book gives Savannah, the heroines’ mentor from The Hidden Justice series, a voice filled with broken past, impossible present, and uncertain future. This book is a stand-alone since Savannah is just a shadow of a character in the previous series but seeing Hayden, Emilie, and Jaime again will be fun for those who enjoyed The Hidden Justice series. The complex and detailed plot of this story will keep your attention until the very last page of the book and the characters of Jett and Savannah will capture your heart.
It’s interesting that Jett, a dedicated and determined investigative journalist, is paired up with Savannah, an equally dedicated and determined attorney, as a plane crash, a new black box technology, a scathing expose of an article, and multiple murders bring them together in a seemingly confusing and unrelated course of events. The adventure they undertake to untangle the complicated web involves a whole lot of twists and turns, plenty of action, and rollercoaster of emotions. The legal aspect of the story was fascinating, especially to this particular reader who is a legalese novice.
If you enjoy romantic suspense with a good dose of legal drama, you will love this book. Cara Putman is the queen of this genre! I received a copy of the book from Thomas Nelson via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Flight Risk by Cara Putman is a great legal thriller…suspense, murder, mystery, and a bit of romance, a reader who loves legal thrillers couldn’t ask for more. The characters are strong, realistic, and relatable. I loved Savannah’s relationship with her niece. Lots of action keeps the pages turning. Contemporary issues of human-trafficking and alcoholism are addressed with finesse. I really enjoyed the book and am hoping this might be the start of a series. Siiri Scott did a great job with narration, which made for an enjoyable listening experience. I listened to a library copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review.
FILTERING FACT FROM FICTION!
Cara Putnam’s latest release, FLIGHT RISK, has her two main characters desperately filtering fact from fiction. Savannah Daniels has done her due diligence to build her law practice, surround herself with a strong community of friends and do everything she can to help her troubled niece. Betrayal by her ex-husband has left her trusting no one. Jett Glover is a reporter dedicated to reporting the truth. The truth matters to him because his father was the victim of a false newspaper report that ruined his reputation and led him to commit suicide.
Glover uncovers a story of the darkest kind – an international sex-trafficking ring that includes a celebrity baseball player and several of his close associates, including Savannah’s ex. From this point in the story on, the reader needs to prepare for a heart stopping read that will keep you on the edge of your seat! All manner of mayhem and murder break loose and unfortunately the most innocent of all get caught right in the center of the mess. Savannah must decide whether she can join forces with the reporter who has brought nothing but trouble in her life. Meanwhile, in spite of checking, double-checking and triple-checking all his facts prior to publishing his story, Glover is beginning to wonder IF there is a possibility he could have made a mistake. Truly a great suspense book! I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Pubishers & NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
This book is a great example of contemporary legal suspense at it’s best. This story could come from today’s headlines – mysterious plane crashes, cutting edge technology, human trafficking, social media posts – all combine to make a complex mystery. Lawyer Savannah Daniels and news reporter Jett Glover join forces to solve a puzzle that not only involves people close to Savannah but may also involve national security. As more people die, the threat begins to creep closer to Savannah and Jett. Can they solve it in time before they become the next victims? Thank you Thomas Nelson–FICTION/Thomas Nelson via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Cara C. Putman does it once again in her new release Flight Risk. This is one of those reads that keeps the readers left guessing what is going to happen in the next scene. I was often left wondering what could possibly be on the next page. I could not put it down until the end to find out how it all ended. It had quite a few twists and turns that kept me gripping my chair. I felt like I was on a roller coaster. What a thrill of a ride. Jett and Savannah made a perfect team. They experience a lot of danger, suspense and adventure trying to find out what is going on and what is ahead of them.
I am giving Flight Risk five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy to read clean romantic suspense. I thought it was a great read.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
