“Kingsolver is a gifted magician of words.”—TimeThe extraordinary New York Times bestselling author of The Lacuna (winner of the Orange Prize), The Poisonwood Bible (nominated for the Pulitzer Prize), and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, Barbara Kingsolver returns with a truly stunning and unforgettable work. Flight Behavior is a brilliant and suspenseful novel set in present day Appalachia; a … brilliant and suspenseful novel set in present day Appalachia; a breathtaking parable of catastrophe and denial that explores how the complexities we inevitably encounter in life lead us to believe in our particular chosen truths. Kingsolver’s riveting story concerns a young wife and mother on a failing farm in rural Tennessee who experiences something she cannot explain, and how her discovery energizes various competing factions—religious leaders, climate scientists, environmentalists, politicians—trapping her in the center of the conflict and ultimately opening up her world. Flight Behavior is arguably Kingsolver’s must thrilling and accessible novel to date, and like so many other of her acclaimed works, represents contemporary American fiction at its finest.

This was a REALLY great book.
Save the Monarchs! I am a committed habitat-builder. Learned a lot from this book.
A good book about thee environmental effect on butterflys.
One of my all time favorite books.
This was a fascinating account of what will happen to butterflies as a result of the climate change in which we already find ourselves. It is a true wake-up call from an author who is knowledgeable in the world of the environment.
I really liked this story. I had no idea about the butterflies and life in this part of the country. I think it was quite insightful and informative; but mostly entertaining. She is truly a master with words.
The way this tale was told helped educate readers about climate change while offering strong characters with a strong story line.
I love Ms. Kingsolver’s prose and character development.
Love the way Kingsolver writes. Always learn a lesson from her novels. I never want them to end.
Set in Appalachia the book is educational, well-written, has well-developed characters, and very interesting. Another gift from one of my favorite American authors.
Excellent and most entertaining writer.
Memorable triumph over what can appear to be insurmountable odds for a woman to escape her experiences…of early marriage, children and a limited life and become a scientist. Sometimes it’s hard to turn the pages fast enough. Wonderful read.
Classic Barbera Kingsolver – she a favorite!
Too many scientific descriptions of butterflies and migration vs storyline
So well researched and an eye opening take about what’s happening to the planet and climate.
Any book by Barbara Kingsolver is well worth reading! Her in-depth study of a natural phenomenon, in this case the migration pattern of Monarch butterflies, intertwined with the people affected by the natural events, is riveting. She uses lush language to describe some of the most beautiful events in the world. Do yourself a favor. Read this …
I downloaded this because I had read a long time ago “The Poisonwood Bible”. Which I thought was a beautiful and heartbreaking story. Flight Behavior was ok but it didn’t hold my interest as well.
This one’s a keeper! Bought the book so I can keep it. Kingsolver explains all about monarch butterflies. Don’t let that turn you off – it is about so much more than that! Family, love, race, class – I loved it.
interesting characters. way too much fictional science info on the monarch butterflies.
I have read Barbara Kingsolver before and was interested in this book because i was free but also by an well known author. It was very informative but also had a wonderful back story. A book of regrets, do overs and many what ifs.
