⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This story blew me away. I have never gone back and bought a book I’ve read through the Unlimited program before. My reading material is vast, from politics to history to mysteries to Booker Man and Novel Prize books and the classics, and in between it all I read romance novels. I’ve read thousands in my lifetime and this was a wonderful and simply remarkable book.” ~ Amazon customer review
Henry Barbour is known locally as the Bear of Barcham Wood. Living alone in the vast and decaying splendour of Barcham Place, surrounded by wilderness and woodland, he inspires such tales of madness that no one will go near the once grand house.
But when a filthy and frightening man rescues Isabella from drowning, she begins to believe her fate has taken an even darker turn. Yet appearances can be deceptive, and an unlikely bond is created between two damaged souls who need to hide from the world.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This book had all the components of a fantastic read. Imperfect people which made them perfect characters. Great storyline, details flushed out. No loose ends which I highly appreciate. A complete book with a worthy epilogue.” ~ Amazon customer review
As Isabella comes to understand the meaning of compassion, she begins to realise that the most important things in life are not at all what she expected them to be.
The tenth book of the acclaimed Rogues & Gentlemen historical romance series from Emma V Leech, the multi-award-winning Amazon Top 10 romance writer. Author of fan favourites such as Flaming June and Last Man in London, both listed in the 20 ‘Romance Reads You Can’t Miss’ in the Amazon Kindle Storyteller Awards 2018.
**** Warning: This book contains a careful selection of quiet determination, resolute tight-lipped-ness and (almost) insurmountable levels of tension. Although coupled with the presence of occasionally descriptive sexual encounters, we are very pleased to highlight that this book – and series – is in no way verging on erotica. ****
The Rogues & Gentlemen series can be enjoyed as stand-alone regency romance and historical romance novels, or as part of the wider series. If the full series appeals, the suggested – but by no means essential – reading order would be:
•Book 1: The Rogue
•Book 2: The Earl’s Temptation
•Book 3: Scandal’s Daughter
•Book 4: The Devil May Care
•Book 5: Nearly Ruining Mr Russell
•Book 6: One Wicked Winter
•Book 7: To Tame a Savage Heart
•Book 8: Persuading Patience
•Book 9: The Last Man in London
•Book 10: Flaming June
•Book 11: Charity and The Devil
•Book 12: A Slight Indiscretion
•Book 13: The Corinthian Duke
•Book 14: The Blackest of Hearts
•Book 15: Duke and Duplicity
Happy reading! And please do leave a review if you can – it would mean the world to hear what you enjoyed most about the book.

An enjoyable read. I loved the characters and their interesting personalities. A good lesson in not judging other people.
Well written, good story with interesting characters. No editing problems. Highly recommend.
What a wonderful story. I loved that Isabelle and Henry both needed rescuing. I loved that they both had courage and perseverance to get to a place where they could rescue each other. This story has amazing revelations about relating to someone with autism or at least those kinds of personality traits. The reader is able to feel the emotions of the characters and experience the story at a deep level. It’s a very romantic story, and inspires the reader with descriptions of profound love and experiences showing the characters learning to navigate this newfound dimension in their lives. This book is well worth the time to read, I could barely set it down until I finished.
Thoughtful story about a talented man, suffering from Asperger’s Spectrum Disorder, who rescued a pregnant Lady Isabella Scranford from drowning in a river. Bringing her back to his home after her near drowning, he and his loyal servant tend the lady. As they learn her story, and she learns that Henry is an accomplished artist, but does not like to be out in society, making many think he is mentally handicapped, which is far from the truth. It is beautiful to read the gently unfolding love between Henry and Isabella, and heartbreaking to understand the difficulties each person has in dealing with their neighbors. I felt that I grew in understanding the difficulties people such as Henry face in dealing with the world.
I enjoyed reading this book, as I have all of the other books I’ve read by Emma Leech. I appreciate the fact that the hero in this book wasn’t the perfect hero usually portrayed in romance books. It was refreshing to see a hero who was human, Leech’s description of an obviously autistic main character was well done, in my opinion.
A fabulous book. I couldn’t put it down and read through the night about this talented troubled hero and his heroine. The details of the characters, the scenes and the plot is captivating and entrancing. I would definitely recommend this book.
I really enjoyed the storyline and liked the characters.
I will check out more of this authors books
Two Souls Saving Each Other
Lady Isabella, known by all as rude and cruel, looked upon each day as another day in which to endure her mother’s cruelty and wrath. She was who she was raised to be, but was it who she really was beneath her mask? Would she ever find comfort and peace to calm her anxious spirit.
Know as the Bear of Barcham, Henry Barbour hid from his cruel notoriety, and from society. Being a special soul, both misunderstood and maligned, the world was not friendly to him. It was within his art that his attention was held and his spirit was calmed.
As twists of fate conspire to bring Isabella and Henry together, it is their own true natures that allow them to open their hearts and minds, and to find love with each other.
Flaming June is the kind of character driven love story that makes my heart beat faster and keeps me reading through to the last page. Neither Isabella or Henry truly are what they seem to be at the beginning. Instead, it will require time and trust for each of them to achieve their forever happiness.
Emma V. Leech is one of my favorite authors. Her writing style and her complex and intimate profiles speak to me within each of her books. In this tender tale, she brings to life two misunderstood and maligned people who seem to have lost inner hope. Together they find a reason to face life’s challenges, and to find true happiness. Ms. Leech also gives appropriate attention to supporting characters, which include cameo appearances of returning characters. Readers who read books 6 (One Wicked Winter) and 7 (To Tame a Savage Heart) in this series, will be glad to reunite with the heroines and heroes from each one. That said, since this is a stand-alone book, it is not necessary to have read books 6 and 7 of the series, but it will increase the enjoyment of this book. Lastly, Ms Leech put just enough twists into the plot to keep the tale from being too predictable.
Content alert: There is some swearing (both secular and religious), as well as some descriptive sexual content.
An interesting story that dealt with mental and emotional issues not usually addressed in historical romance stories. It was also inspiring to see the heroine realize that she did not have to be emotionally cut off due to her having an unloved childhood. All in all a lovely and touching story. The happy ending was also appreciated!
Well, I loved this story & the originality by Emma Leech was absolutely fantastic. It was such a change of pace from the normal Ton, balls, rogues, insipid debutantes, etc. Lady Isabella Scranford has found herself pregnant with no hope of marriage from the father & is tossed from her home by her mother who doesn’t want the scandal (I really didn’t like her at first as we had met her in earlier books in the series).
Henry Barbour, known as the Bear of Barcham Wood, lives in the country & is recluse on the autism spectrum with unbelievable artistic ability. Henry is considered mad & no one will venture near his land nor does he want them to do so. He is certainly not an experienced man with the ladies & when he saves Isabella’s life, the story blossoms in to a warm, emotional journey of learning, trusting & loving.
I enjoyed the revisiting some of the characters from previous books along with some new & endearing secondary characters to round out the cast in this story. DeMorte (a favorite character of mine) has obsessive compulsive disorder & it was great to see him & Henry become close friends. I highly recommend this book & the series to all historical romance readers – you won’t be disappointed.
A little different than most historical romances, but still the same English dishonored, banished girl. The hero is the aspect that is different. I would recommend anyone who enjoys historical romance to read it.
It was the first book in the series that I read. I found it an interesting story. I liked all the characters.
Too sexy for my taste. Wouldn’t have read it if I knew. Characters had OCD and Autism in Regency setting
Unusually good!
I’m not sure I really did like this book. The male MC is said to have autism, but he’s portrayed more as a mentally-challenged person. The romantic situations, especially, made me feel uncomfortable, almost like a child was being taken advantage of. Don’t get me wrong, Isabella had a lovely character, all characters were likeable. It’s just that Henry didn’t seem to mature enough. It was especially disappointing coming from Emma Leech, whose books I have always loved previously.
I enjoyed it.
I loved how the h was challenged to consider how she interacted with people and was forced to take a hard look at herself. I also loved that people who have difficulties in social situations were portrayed with care and understanding and showed that they were able to still make important contributions to society!
I loved their story!!! How Isabella almost gave up on life but then redeemed herself upon feeling her baby kick. Henry saves her and from there their love slowly blossoms. An artist and a lady what are they to do except fall in love. I love the aspect of how they got to know one another instead of instant lust.
Very enjoyable read
Avert different twist to a love story.
