When the beautiful Lady Isabella Scranford finds herself in the family way and her lover refuses to do the honourable thing, she knows her life is at an end. With a reputation for being a cold-hearted bitch, there will be no sympathy for … cold-hearted bitch, there will be no sympathy for her, only shame and ridicule. Finding that even her best – and only – friend refuses to be associated with her any longer, Isabella decides she cannot go on and makes a fateful decision.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This story blew me away. I have never gone back and bought a book I’ve read through the Unlimited program before. My reading material is vast, from politics to history to mysteries to Booker Man and Novel Prize books and the classics, and in between it all I read romance novels. I’ve read thousands in my lifetime and this was a wonderful and simply remarkable book.” ~ Amazon customer review
Henry Barbour is known locally as the Bear of Barcham Wood. Living alone in the vast and decaying splendour of Barcham Place, surrounded by wilderness and woodland, he inspires such tales of madness that no one will go near the once grand house.
But when a filthy and frightening man rescues Isabella from drowning, she begins to believe her fate has taken an even darker turn. Yet appearances can be deceptive, and an unlikely bond is created between two damaged souls who need to hide from the world.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This book had all the components of a fantastic read. Imperfect people which made them perfect characters. Great storyline, details flushed out. No loose ends which I highly appreciate. A complete book with a worthy epilogue.” ~ Amazon customer review
As Isabella comes to understand the meaning of compassion, she begins to realise that the most important things in life are not at all what she expected them to be.
The tenth book of the acclaimed Rogues & Gentlemen historical romance series from Emma V Leech, the multi-award-winning Amazon Top 10 romance writer. Author of fan favourites such as Flaming June and Last Man in London, both listed in the 20 ‘Romance Reads You Can’t Miss’ in the Amazon Kindle Storyteller Awards 2018.
**** Warning: This book contains a careful selection of quiet determination, resolute tight-lipped-ness and (almost) insurmountable levels of tension. Although coupled with the presence of occasionally descriptive sexual encounters, we are very pleased to highlight that this book – and series – is in no way verging on erotica. ****
The Rogues & Gentlemen series can be enjoyed as stand-alone regency romance and historical romance novels, or as part of the wider series. If the full series appeals, the suggested – but by no means essential – reading order would be:
•Book 1: The Rogue
•Book 2: The Earl’s Temptation
•Book 3: Scandal’s Daughter
•Book 4: The Devil May Care
•Book 5: Nearly Ruining Mr Russell
•Book 6: One Wicked Winter
•Book 7: To Tame a Savage Heart
•Book 8: Persuading Patience
•Book 9: The Last Man in London
•Book 10: Flaming June
•Book 11: Charity and The Devil
•Book 12: A Slight Indiscretion
•Book 13: The Corinthian Duke
•Book 14: The Blackest of Hearts
•Book 15: Duke and Duplicity
Happy reading! And please do leave a review if you can – it would mean the world to hear what you enjoyed most about the book.

Charming and delightful. The subject matter was unique. It captivated from the beginning. I throughly enjoyed from page one. Fabulous.
Thank you for showing that people with life challenges can be heros
This was probably the best of the historical romances that I have ever read. I loved every page of it. Sweet and romantic. The characters were wonderful.
I see why this book is so highly rated. I own several but this was the best. Just read it.
Emma V. Leech triumphs, again, this time in retelling a story, with twists, of Beauty (Isabella) and the Beast (Henry, the Bear of Barcham Wood).
Isabella is not a good person, raised by her self-serving and rotten to the core mother. Her mother casts her out; she will attempt to reclaim Isabella when fortune shines.
Henry’s communication is minimal; his artist’s perception sees the mask worn that hides the true character of most human beings. His muse consumes him. He is a brilliant painter, capturing the details and the soul of his subjects on canvas.
He helps Isabella find herself and redemption. She helps him join the world so his masterpieces might be appreciated rather than hidden.
I enjoyed the read, the collection of wounded hearts and souls.
This was an unusual book. I like to believe that the character Henry represented one of the first characters I have read about in an historical novel who seemed to exhibit autisim — am I correct? It was very well handled. Loved it!
Unusual characters and an interesting turn of events in this story! I especially enjoyed witnessing the characters grow through challenges and ultimately deepen their understanding of each other and themselves.
Really enjoyed this book
An amazing story with an unusual subject.
A complex man a castigated woman meet and bond in the best of ways. Getting to the agreeable moment is so worth reading this book. Love the characters, supporting characters make this book believable and add in love, respect, trust and patience of heart make this story so enjoyable. The story goes beyond the obvious and delivers the reader to a wonderful end. Must read the other books in the series…
I really liked this book, it was very good! I liked the characters & the storyline was different. It showed how caring & love could encourage people to change. Great read!
Loved this original story. Something different than the usual romance but really good
Loved, loved, loved this book! Couldn’t put it down! So much enjoyed that “different “ people have deep feelings and it takes everyday special people to love them. It becomes a win win for both of them. I couldn’t put it down. Did I say I loved this book. I’m definitely looking to reading more by this author.
Good story, but tooooo much sex.
I loved it
Loved it and had to read the rest in the series
I t was a very enjoyable read. I found it highly entertaining and couldn’t put it down.
It was a good read. Sort of a beauty and the beast story. Deals with quirks of nature, minor mental issues others find repulsive but make these individuals unique.
I loved this book! Such a great story! Mean girls can become sweet girls!
This book is great. The hero is a savant and the book high lights his struggles dealing with people.
