Gunner “Devil” Batch was an idiot. His actions as a teenager condemned him to a life of hell, and Devil spends his life making up for his mistakes. As a Master Chief in the US Navy SEALs, he has plenty of opportunity to do just that. After what seems like a lifetime has passed, he finds his chance to get out of purgatory. All he has to do is convince the angels to give him another chance.Rory is a … chance.
Rory is a liar… well by omission. She’s been keeping a secret for a very long time. A secret that made her leave her home and everything she’s ever known.
Fighting her way through this world on her own is a tough battle still trying to protect her secret. When she meets her demon face to face, she’ll have to pay for her lies with her heart.

Well that wasn’t what I expected…it was so much better (and I had super high expectations…..)
Another fantastic read from the author, following on nicely from Shatterproof and Fish’s story, Devil had some work to do to turn my head but wow….
I found the first part of the book hard to read, not uninteresting at all, just from an emotional standpoint. But wow, what a set up and what an emotional journey to be taken on.
I loved how strong, independent and self sufficient Rory was and how forgiving she was of Devil, when she could have carried such hatred in her heart.
Colton was written so well, and the developing relationship with Gunner/Devil was handled so well.
I love how the author weaves the storylines so seamlessly together so things pop up later and it’s a surprise, like an ongoing element to the book that helps bring the ending all together with a bang.
I almost passed out in shock at the ball game scene but wow, again such emotion so well written which given these are hardcore baddass men, is done so well.
Another one to read again and again for me
As always with Jo Chambliss, another engrossing story.
Ink & his SEAL family have arrived back from a traumatic mission during which they lost one of their own. Although Ink has a PhD, he can be socially inept.
Dallas is an investigative reporter, who is wrapping up an article when she is approached to investigate the death of a SEAL – Ink’s best friend. It doesn’t take long for Dallas to realise that she has been had, and now she has to earn Ink and his teammates’ trust.
The way the author presents the main characters, they could be people that we know i.e. the have flaws and strengths like ‘real’ people do. They behave in ways that are realistic.
Each book in this series can be read as a standalone novel, so it’s never too late to start reading Jo Chambliss’ books.
I received this book from Netgalley, and this is my opinion.
This series just gets better and better. There’s broken hearts, broken promises and things said in the heat of the moment. Gunner and Rory were young, 18, and just out of school. After their split, 11 years later, he’s a Navy Seal and she’s ahead of a big business with a company with helping families with gardens. But she’s been keeping a big secret and it blows Gunner away. There is plenty of danger, heat, surprises and HEA. Can’t wait for Bandaid’s book, sounds really good.
Flameproof by Jo Chambliss
This is the second book in the author’s Waterproof series and is Gunner “Devil” Murphy and Rory Briggs story of second chances, bravery and determination for both of them to succeed in their chosen careers.
Gunner Murphy’s family is well known around Athena, Oregon for climbing trees and getting drunk but he’s not going to be like that and have plans after graduation to move to South Carolina and Rory has a scholarship to go to Oregon State for horticulture. But just once together and their lives will change forever for both of them. Gunner will stop his downward spiral into a bottle and become a Navy SEAL and Rory will keep a secret from him but they’ll meet again 10 years later when a gunman tries to hold up a Sporting Goods store. Devil will be fighting for his life when attacks start to happen and his whole SEAL team will help protect the ones he loves. Lots of action and twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.
This book series has become a favorite of mine and I’ve just about caught up with the entire team and can’t wait for the next book.
This is the 2nd book in the Waterproof:: Navy SEALS series and it is awesome. IN this one we have a second chance at love.
This is Gunner and Rory’s story. They were high school sweethearts, when they broke up they were both shattered.
Years pass before they meet each other again, the attraction and the chemistry is still there! Will they get their second chance???

This is book two in the Waterproof: Navy SEALS series and it is amazing. Great second chance at love story. Gunner and Rory were high school sweethearts. When they broke up (won’t go into details. Read to find out.) they were both shattered. As the years passed they both felt guilty. Years pass and when they meet up again the chemistry is downright explosive. I am loving this series and am looking forward to Bandaid’s story next. A must read

Gunner and Rory are high school sweethearts but they went their separate ways after high school. Gunner goes into the Navy and makes a career and ends the cycle of the bad Murphys’ that everyone knew them as back when he was younger. Rory went on to achieve her dreams but she did so with a secret she kept from Gunner. They meet up again years later and discover that nothing has changed in regard to their feelings for one another. Gunner also learns that while they were apart she had his son. As they start working to get to know each other someone starts targeting Gunner and his family. Will they find the threat? Can they have a future when they broke up like they did?
This is an amazing story that will have you on an emotional roller coaster ride. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

The second book in the Waterproof series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Gunner “Devil” Murphy, Rory Brooke Briggs, and their son Colton there is suspense, drama, danger, a villain, and a second chance. I enjoyed reading this story and want to read the next one. This book is full of plenty of highs, lows and surprises that has you turning the page to see where things will go for Gunner and Rory now that their lives have once again come together, you feel the apprehension, joy, doubt, hope and love as Gunner and Rory navigate this new normal. I loved how I struggled to blame either of them for what had happened as I totally believe as gut wrenching as it is those year apart and struggles were need in order for them to grow and appreciate life and chances soo much more. I am just loving this series and can not wait for the next book!!

I love all of Jo’s Books hat I have read and this is her second series that I have read and I personally think that she is an author that gets better with every story that she writes She sure tugs on the emotions and you better have tissues handy as you read this story.
Gunner was used to the town judging him after all he came from a family where the men may have been handsome and the good women of the town may have lusted after them but they where also the town drunks. He and Rory where schoolyard sweethearts and he knew that he wasn’t good enough for her so when she gave him the greatest gift that she could he got cold feet or maybe a feeling of guilt and decides the best thing he could do was leave her so she could go to university and have a future. This leads him into a downward spiral but luckily he had left town and gone to a friend whose father was military and he suggested that to get himself straight he should join the military which he did and became a seal What he didn’t know was that he had also left Rory pregnant but luckily with the support of the people she was to board with she not only finished her degree but built a career while racing her son Colton. That career gives her a promotion that puts her back in the sites of Gunner and when he discovers he has a son he is filled with remorse and will do whatever he can to make life better for the two of them. Can they admit that they still love one another and finally get the future that they deserve You will have to read to see
This is the story of Rory and Gunner. These high school sweethearts spent one night together that left Rory pregnant. Gunner has plans to join the service so isn’t ready to be tied down. Now years later Gunner comes face to face with Rory and discovers he has an eleven year old son. I enjoyed this second chance romance as Gunner repairs their relationship and makes a new on with his son Colton. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the 5th book I’ve read written by Jo Chambliss; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I like a second chance romance and this was great one. Gunner and Rory are high school sweethearts and after their one and only night together, she finds herself pregnant. Gunner, has plans to join the service, get out of town, and make a life for himself was shocked and demanded Rory terminate the pregnancy. When she goes to the clinic and sees and hears the heartbeat, she can’t go through with it, but doesn’t tell Gunner. She leaves town soon after and make s a life for herself and her son. Gunner regrets his impulsive reaction soon after, but thinking his child is gone, lives with regret and self condemnation. I really liked the way Jo Chambliss relates Gunner’s anguish about his decision, its not a view we often see. Years later, after a series of events, Gunner finds out he has an 11 year old son and Rory is still the love of his life. Their story of mending relationships, building new relationships between Gunner and his son, Colton, and building their family was well developed, compelling, and well paced. I’m really anxious to read the next book in this series.

Gunner and Rory’s relationship ended badly when Gunner made a rash decision in the heat of the moment. Rory being the soft caring woman that she is didn’t do as she was told and left her hometown to start a new life away from the memories and judgement of friends and family.
Years later an robbery brings Gunner and Rory back into each other’s lives and Gunner makes a discovery that gives him hope that he might be able to redeem himself for his mistake.
This is a very good romantic suspense. I really enjoyed the second book in this series. Looking forward to the next one.

This is book two in The Waterproof Series and it is Gunner and Rory’s story and omg it blew me away. Rory and Gunner are so in love but Rory has just got a full scholarship to Keegan and Gunner is leaving town to make something of himself but on Rory’s eighteenth birthday she wants to be Gunner’s first and he be her first before they go there separate ways and they don’t see each for a while but things don’t always go as planned or as you expect them to. Years later and Rory has just been made President of The East Coast Operations in Virginia Beach and that means that she can now put down roots with her son Colton instead of constantly moving around. Gunner is a Navy Seal and lives in Virginia Beach, he has never stopped thinking about and loving Rory and he still can’t get over what he did to her and there relationship. Rory and Gunner had a strong connection and chemistry but there lives were filled with twists and turns along with hurt, betrayal, pain, danger, hope, love, a second chance and emotional situations that had me in tears more than once while reading this amazing book. This is the first book that I have read by Jo Chambliss but definitely not the last as it was so well written and I couldn’t put it down as I had to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next. I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed as it is an amazing book.

(4.5) Heart wrenching!! Grab 1, maybe more boxes of Kleenex. This is less an active military scenario, but very much relative to what happens during down time. They are not in the sand box 24/7. They have training, exercises etc. Most of Gunther aka Devil’s story takes place during this downtime. The prologue made me say jerk right along with him, although he called himself worse. Even reacting emotionally I could understand where he was coming from, why he said what he did. Kudos to Rory for making a decision for herself and then making a life. When they meet by accident and Devils response I got choked up. I was incredibly moved with Devils openness and willingness to give Rory and Colton whatever they needed without forcing himself in their lives. After a training exercise things start happening relatively quickly. I loved the feels this book provided and have become enamored of this writers books. If you enjoy books that make you feel, if you like reading about our heroes and don’t need made action every single page, this is the book for you. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions and recommend this author.

A second chance romance
Yes, this is a military romance, but this is less about saving the damsel in distress and more about an emotional reconnection. It does mean that this book has slightly less action and suspense than one would normally associate with the genre. There is still just enough to keep those of us that are action addicts going. The focus in this book is on the emotional growth and healing the main characters need to find.
Gunner and Rory make a great couple. The back story does take some space in the book – space I would have liked to spend with them in the present learning to navigate their new relationship. But through the back story I was emotionally invested in their HEA.
