The fourth novel in the Witchbane series. One hundred years ago, a sheriff’s posse killed dark warlock Rhyfel Gremory, but his witch-disciples escaped, and their magic made them nearly immortal. To keep their power, each year one of the witch-disciples kills a descendant of one of the men in the posse, a twelve-year cycle that has cost dozens of lives, including that of Seth Tanner’s brother, Jesse brother, Jesse

It’s a challenge to find their way as a couple while they’re on the road together in the close quarters of Seth’s RV, training in magic and combat skills to fight off a supernatural killer.

They’re ahead of the sacrifice cycle, with plans to stop the murders and kill the dark witch. Only this time, the hunters become the hunted when the witch knows they’re coming to get him, and has deadly plans of his own. When their lives are on the line, will love be enough?

Flame and Ash continues the story of Seth and Evan, two paranormal hunters who are working on eliminating the danger an evil witch coven poses to certain family bloodlines. This time, Seth and Evan are joined by Milo and Toby, pseudo parents for Seth and well respected hunters. I really liked the addition of Milo and Toby to the story and it was great to see how Seth and Evan adapted to their presence and grew their relationship. The action and paranormal activity was on point just like the previous books. The audiobook was well done and I had fun listening to it and enjoying the story.
Overall this was an enjoyable read about monster hunters protecting humanity from the supernatural. Reading about the developing relationship between Seth and Evan is enjoyable and the addition of Milo and Toby adds a family feel to the character interactions.
This particular book highlighted the fact that the characters in this series are almost all men who are in relationships with other men. This is a perk if you are looking for that type of story, but it does add another implausible aspect to the series. Considering that approximately half the human population is women, an explanation might be in order.
One thing that improved in this is volume of the series is the visual descriptions of scenery and action sequences. The setting was much easier to imagine and the descriptions felt a bit more vivid.
Once again, Kale Williams adds an extra bit of flavor to this series with has soothing voice and masterful performance.
I think this is and great way to continue this series. To get to know Seth´s adoptive familey. They did alot to the book.
Audiobook review:
Performance – 5
Story – 5
Overall – 5
This is a great series!
The Witchbane series has been an unusual one for me… I usually prefer to read series in order but I’ve been reading the Witchbane series in reverse order and it really has been fine to do it that way. Morgan Brice does a great job of giving the reader background information needed for the characters and yet it shouldn’t feel redundant for someone who has read them in order.
I’ve really come to appreciate how the different series that Morgan Brice writes are connected to each other, including the ones she writes as Gail Z. Martin. But even if you haven’t read any of the other series, I don’t think you’ll feel like you’ve missed anything – at least I haven’t felt that way. What has happened is that I’ve become intrigued enough that I want to start reading her Gail Z. Martin stories even though the majority of what I read these days is MM romance.
Flame and Ash continues the adventures of Seth and Evan in their quest to destroy all of the witch-disciples. They team up with Milo and Toby, older witch hunters who have been great mentors to Seth. I loved reading about this older couple and how they’ve helped Seth.
The audiobook performed by Kale Williams really held my attention. The adventure and nail-biting suspense kept me genuinely entertained. I think he has done a great job with this series. Now I just need to make time to listen to books 1-3.
A copy of this audio book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

This says four but description says book three.
You really do need to read these in order but I read ( listened to this one without the others) there is enough backstory to keep you up and interested without bogging it down.
I loved the powerful attachment of Evan and Seth
The story kept you on your toes, it was nail biting suspense in places.
Exciting, gripping and sexy.
I listened to the audio and if you can afford it, highly suggest. Or buy the book and whisper sync. I loved the narrators smooth, relaxing voice and depiction of characters and action.
If you like, supernatural, strong characters, witches, witch hunters, action and hot sexy times this is for you… start with book one though.
Seth and Evan have their work cut out for them here. Having to try to figure out their relationship while fighting a truly evil opponent leaves little breathing room for them or the reader. They will be tested emotionally and physically here both individually and as a couple. I hate to see the end of this series, but can’t wait for volume five.
Seth & Evan back again (an audio review)
I’m enjoying the Witchbane series. I remember the first book was a little shaky for me, but I’ve since settled into the stories quite nicely. Seth lost his brother violently to a supernatural force and once he determined the pattern of victims, he made it his mission to prevent further killings, thereby weakening the otherworldly creatures. He saved Evan’s life and, having lost everything, Evan decided to join Seth on his quest. But he’s a graphic artist who knows nothing about the occult. So it’s been a steep learning curve for him – and me.
We meet an older pair of ghost hunters on this journey through the Blue Ridge Mountains – proof this can be a life-long occupation. Or obsession. Just depends on your perspective.
This time it’s Seth who is truly endangered and Evan who must lead the rescue. He never hesitates. The bond between the men is unbreakable and I felt that emotional pull. The story hit home with how we have family who reject us for who we are (Evan) and those we embrace as found family (Seth).
I’ll end by saying Kale Williams is doing a great job with this series and I was pleased Simon Kincaide from the Badlands series made an appearance. Plenty more ghosts to hunt, plenty more stories to come.
Of course I start on the fourth book in the series! It was sooo good! Seth and Evan are witch hunters looking for the ten witch-disciples of a dark warlock Gremory. Gremory was killed a hundred years ago and one of the descendants of who killed him now must pay with their lives. Seth’s brother Jesse died at the hands of one of the disciples and now he’s trying to kill all of them so that no one more innocents have to die. This is a fantastic urban fantasy story!! It’s full of magic and witches, suspense, ghost and bad guys then this is the story for you! Well written with a ton of depth to the characters. Sooo freakin good!! Highly recommend!! I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.
Onward and forward
There’s something to be said for found family and Seth and Evan have an amazing one. We finally learn more about the wonderful duo of Toby and Milo; they have some wild and funny stories to share. Seth and Evan are contemplating their future together mixed in with some very sexy times. I bet that RV generates enough heat to warm up winter.
Parts of this book reached up and grabbed me by the throat. Evan and Seth end up in some harrowing situations as the witch they’re hunting is tricky, out for blood, and knows how to hit them where it hurts. Plus there’re are some jerks I wanted to punch. It’s a good thing they are stubborn, unwilling to back down and have their own tricks. Not to mention their family ready to go to battle alongside them. The adventure and excitement continues and I’m ready for whatever is next.
Another great addition to the series. It was fun and fast paced! This book had our fearless duo teaming up with a pair of seasoned hunters to thwart this new crafty witch disciple.
I love this series and these guys, so from very happy to read the next in the series. An added bonus was Seth’s mentors and stand in dads Milo and Toby playing a big part in the story. After several cameos from them in previous books, it was great to get to know them ‘on screen.’ I loved their banter, and it’s obvious that they’re very much in love. I liked the way they accepted Evan as part of their family.
One of my favourite things about this author is the crossovers with other series. The phone calls with Simon from the Badlands series made me very happy, as did the references to other characters who have their own series within this world. I also like the sense of family, with everyone looking out for each other, and working together to lend a hand if needed within someone else’s story.
I like that Seth and Evan both have IT jobs that they can do as well as being hunters so they have money coming in. It gives the storyline more of an edge of realism, as they still have to deal with the usual day to day issues that most people do in that regard.
Another touch of realism is Evan and Seth still hoping, yet wondering, if their relationship will work out. They haven’t been together long, despite having been through a lot together, and I thought those doubts made a lot of sense. I also like that these guys always do their research, rather than rush in blindly to do battle. The author has put a lot of thought into the worldbuilding and how all the puzzle pieces of the plot fit together, and it shows. I always appreciate that these guys don’t recover instantly from a fight either. Injuries take time to heal as does the head space and emotional trauma that goes with it.
I love the magic system, and how Evan especially is growing in confidence as a hunter, and being able to work rote magic. Having the ghosts help out is a really cool idea!
I liked the supporting cast in this story. Although they were out of their depth, they rallied around to do what they could in order to keep their own safe. I hope we haven’t seen the last of Scott, Steve, and Kyle.
The final showdown is edge-of-seat turning page reading. I found it a very satisfying read, and wonderfully action packed. I liked that it was a group effort, with everyone playing their part.
I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series, especially as they’ll be heading to Charleston where Cassidy, Teag, and Sorren from Deadly Curosities are.
I’d recommend this book to readers who enjoy urban fantasy/paranormal stories with likeable well-developed characters, great banter, fabulous world building, and a plot that keeps you turning pages. 5 out of 5 stars.
It was sort of awesome to see Evan and Seth really click as a team, in this book. I loved that they came to Boone, NC knowing who they were hunting, as well as who they were protecting. Though I do have to say that I hope that not all the books go quite as easily as this one did for the team.
This book was great because it really solidified Evan and Seth as a partnership – both as hunters and romantically. Even though the witch-disciple in this book was prepared for them, he still vastly underestimated their resolve and tenacity in the face of danger.
I would also like to get a better understanding of magic in this world. It’s clearly not limited to people born with a ‘spark’ because all of the hunters have access to it, but I don’t get the impression that Milo and Toby are significantly better at it than Seth or Evan, so it doesn’t seem to be something that grows with practice. Or have the older hunters just not dedicated the time/effort into become more than adequate? It seems to be a rather useful skill to develop, under these circumstances…
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
3.75 out of 5 stars
“Flame and Ash” by Morgan Brice is part of the ‘Witchbane’ series that features the intrepid pair, Seth Tanner and Evan Malone, who have made it their mission to hunt for the witch-disciples who have been decimating the descendants of a long-ago posse. Temporarily joining forces with Seth’s friends and mentors, the group struggles to prevent another victim from falling prey while dealing with the challenges of remaining safe themselves.
This gay urban fantasy and romance for adults is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone story. In fact, that is part of my problem with the book, it seems to go into an awful lot of explanation that is a bit mind-numbing for those who are already familiar with the past details and takes a while to get to the action. I love that the relationship between the main characters is flourishing and hotter than ever and that a couple from Seth’s past shares the spotlight and the dangers. The combination of the arcane and pragmatic is still fascinating, but I didn’t feel that sense of non-stop action and steadily increasing tension that I did in the other stories. Don’t get me wrong, there are some startling surprises and this is an interesting addition to the series that adds to the background about Seth, but it is not my favorite.

A fantastic urban fantasy that will engage your mind and heart. I loved the journey through spells, hexes, witches, ghosts and so much more in this fascinating read. This was a one sitting read for me because i could not put it down. I loved getting to know about Seth’s adopted family, Milo and Toby, they are terrific characters . The story-line was compelling and i was surprised a few times. I loved the writing and the characters just get better and better.
Seth and Evan are in love and work so well as partners. Their survival and love will be tested in this incredible story. I love how they find their way to a HFN ending as their quest continues.
This is book three in the A Witchbane Novel series and it is best read in order. There is a lot of world-building and character development that the reader would miss if you just read this book. I feel it is not a stand-alone book.
I was gifted this book from the LesCourt Author Services and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
This book reminded me in a way of Supernatural. Instead of Sam and Dean, you have Seth and Evan, lovers not brothers. I was captivated from the very beginning. I loved the different types of supernatural creatures! I haven’t read any of the other books in this series but I will now.
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Seth is still on the hunt of the witch-disple that killed his brother with Evan there to help him. The two make their way to Boone, North Carolina to help save another descendant of the men that hung a dark witch. With the helping hands from Milo and Toby, can the save the next targeted man? Or is this one more cunning in his ways? This was such a great read, love the witchbane novels. Highly recommend these books for any m/m, supernatural hunting.
