Flame is the next Dark Kings book in New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant’s series. If she believed in destiny, she would believe they were meant for each other. But that fire was put out long ago. . . Living among the Dragon Kings, Cain has spent lifetimes learning to distrust both mortals and Fae. He is a warrior born–and every instinct demands that he fight to keep his own kind … instinct demands that he fight to keep his own kind safe. But when a fringe member of the Dark Fae contacts the Kings with an urgent warning, Cain is torn for the first time. How can he trust this beautiful creature when resisting his primal attraction to her is battle enough?
Noreen is horrified by what her kind and the malevolent Others are planning for the Dragon Kings. Dark Fae or not, there are lines she will not cross–even if it means risking her life. But she never imagined that she would risk her heart until she meets Cain. She wants him with a soul-deep desire that frightens her…and endangers them both. Is saying goodbye to everything Noreen has ever known worth a love that will span time and realms?

Cain was “helping” to go through the Dreagan email account and read an email that could be a trap. Once Ryder & Kinsey locate the sender of the email, Cain goes in search of the scared looking woman.
Noreen knows sending that email has put her life in danger from the Others. Being a Dark Fae, she didn’t think the Kings would believe her if she showed up at Dreagan. She is soon surprised the Kings found her so quick when she is confronted by Cain. She believes the Others know of her betrayal and reluctantly goes with Cain when he promises he will make sure she is not found.
The Fae Realm is the safest place for Cain & Noreen. There they discover the destruction from the Fae Wars, a mysterious magical barrier and an undeniable attraction. Noreen tells Cain what she can to help the Kings defeat the Others. He returns to Dreagan to tell the Kings what he learned from Noreen and to plan their next move, but Con is not sure she can be trusted. The Kings have been betrayed before so Ulrik travels with Cain to the Fae Realm where they unexpectedly find allies. We learn yet again how powerful magic can be and that it is good to have allies.
This is the penultimate book in this arc of the Dragon Kings story. I cried, yelled & gasped as each new layer was revealed. Cain & Noreen’s relationship is put to the test, Erith has a decision to make and Rhi has to fight the darkness growing inside her. Con has been protecting his brethren for so long but it has taken a toll on him. Even having Ulrik back at Dreagan might not be enough for the King of Kings to survive the toll this all has taken on him – the eons of being alone, shouldering the burden of the Kings, and having to do it all without his mate that he gave up.
Donna Grant has crafted a world so rich and magical for her fans. This book gave us so much to think about and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey Flame took me on. I am anxiously anticipating the next book when we learn how Con and the Kings handle the Others and if Con can finally find happiness.
Non stop action. Excellent characters. Story details are crazy. I love this book. Donna Grant out does herself again.
BRAVO!
Flame by Donna Grant is the seventeenth novel in the Dark Kings modern fantasy series. This can be read as a standalone, but it is recommended to read in order to get the best out of the series.
Flame is a book that has it all, love and lost, trust and dishonesty, understanding and new found secrets. Noreen and Cain are now one of my favorite couples, you can tell pretty quickly how the story is going to go. The plot is amazing, easy to follow with twists, turns and intrigue that will have you flipping the pages faster and faster to get to the next part. Now, Cain and Noreen are a kind of enemy to lover genre, hello, Noreen is a dark fae, but a good person. While being at war with The Others, the Kings learn about plots and schemes that have been going for more years than they care to say, and when Noreen decides she no longer wants to be a member of the others, things start to get really dicey.
Join the Kings and their woman on a new journey of adventure and love. Five out of five stars, Donna always writes the best stories and even better characters. The ending to this is going to kill, but oh is it worth it!!
You absolutely can’t skip this story!! I loved it so much, I even bought the audible version!
We are nearing the close of this chapter in the lives of the Dragon Kings. (I am so glad we get a spinoff.) This book contains so much information but leaves the reader reaching for the next book.
Cain is the hero of this book and his love interest is Noreen, a Dark Fae. She has information which may turn the tides in the fight against The Others, if it is true. But can the Kings trust her word? She may be leading them into a trap.
So many people are involved in this story. We get to see many favorites and many not so favorites. There are some mysteries that will be explained but so much more to learn.
This is book seventeen so I highly suggest starting with book one or a lot of things won’t make sense. Reading the Reapers books will also help since they are intertwined.
I received an arc copy of this book and choose to leave my completely honest opinion.
OMG…I could not put this book down. There was so much happening, I know I have to do a re-read and take my time the second time around. There was Love, Romance; Betrayal and Alliances. There was one major question answered, about the weapon, which still leads to more questions. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL INFERNO!!! If you are looking for an excellent PNR, I highly recommend this series. Although you can start with the Dark Kings, I suggest to start at the beginning with Dark Sword. Check out Donna Grant’s website for the reading order. Happy Reading
This is book # 17 in the Dark Kings series. Just as every other book Donna Grant has written, this book is absolutely brilliant. Noreen is an enemy of the Kings that has a change of heart. Cain is tasked with finding out if they can trust Noreen. This book answers a lot of questions but also gives us new ones. I did not want this book to end. As soon as I got done reading it, I wished I could erase my memory of it so I could read it again for the first time.
Yes! That’s all I can say!! Only not really, but this book is everything I have wanted for a while now! We are coming to the end of this series and this book finally picked up in action! Of course each book has a purpose and a story to tell but this one? It has everything I feel like I’ve been missing! Twists and turns and surprises at all ends! This story really took a turn, in the right direction, to lead us right into the end.
All I want to do is talk about it but it would ALL be spoilers! I will say these things though.
1. I REALLY liked the take on how the Kings’ story is told to this mate. It was a really fresh breath and way more informational!
2. I need Rhi to keep being strong!
3. I just need Con.
4. All the characters throughout this series, spin offs and all, better be in the last book!
This is Cain’s story…and I would give his story 4 stars. Cain is so nice compared to most of the other Dragon Kings. He is calm, kind, sweet, and until about halfway through the book, tolerant. He doesn’t get anxious or angry at what is happening. The story for him turns at that point, and he finally shows the dragon side of himself, letting us see his life before the dragons were sent away. Noreen starts out as a frightened woman, who runs into Cain. She stays that way until she meets Rhi. For Cain and Noreen, the story runs along much as you’d expect it to. Then, about midway through the book, things begin to change, and happen, to both of them and to several others. From this point to the end of the book, it’s a 5-star read. Donna Grant weaves together some of the ongoing plot points, and gives us clues to the next couple of books in this series. As always, this book is well written, and you’ll be halfway in before you know it. I can’t wait to see how she’ll deal with all the loose ends that are still in play. I’ve read the book twice already, and still am finding parts that I didn’t catch on my first read. Read her books-enjoy the ride! *I received and ARC of this book to read, and this is my honest opinion.
Flame is another steamy, action packed installment in the Dark Kings series. This is part of a series and will not make a whole lot of sense unless you read the whole series. Seeking to help the Kings, Dark Fae Noreen sends an email with a lot of useful information and then Cain shows up. Sent to find the truth, Dragon King, Cain finds his mate in the arms of the enemy. But things are never that straight forward in the World of the Kings, Noreen and Cain face a world of betrayal and challenges before they can work on their HEA. Con and Rhi feature pretty prominently in this story line and have my hopes high to finally get their story in the next book (pretty please, Ms Grant). Sexy, exciting, and a whole lot of addicting goodness, this is another great read in the Dragon Kings. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
My Oh My. This book literally ripped my heart out, had me crying like a baby, sitting on the edge of my seat in suspense, and literally wanting to jump into the story and strangle a certain character. Flame is the 17th book in Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series and I believe that of all the books, Donna Grant most certainly out done herself this time. While Cain and Noreen are the main characters to the story, Donna has entwined several smaller stories into this one. We see several characters from the past and learn of their fates. This is both heart wrenching and amazing at the same time. We see the Reapers, Henry and also our all-time favorite characters, Rhi and Con also in the story.
Noreen is a dark fae that was raised by Moreann, the Empress of the Druids and the leader of the Others, after her parents were killed by a dragon king. Noreen hated the Dragon Kings and wanted revenge for the deaths of her parents and somewhere she realized that she did not align with the goals of the Others. In an attempt to warn the Dragon Kings, Noreen sent an anonymous email warning them of what the Others’ had planned.
Cain, the king of the navies, received the email and volunteered to find this dark fae and see if she was telling the truth. Cain offered Noreen his protection for her information. He took her to the old fae realm to keep her safe and this is where the story takes off.
The connection between Noreen and Cain is very evident as they learn about each other and try to figure out how to defeat the Others. Neither was looking for love and somehow fate had a plan for them. However not everything is as it seems. Apparently, the magic of the realm being healed by Rhi has affected a spell that was put on Noreen by Moreann. When Noreen gets to meet Rhi in person and shakes her hand, the spell is broken. Lies, deception, and anger may tear apart Noreen and Cain before they have a chance to get started. She learns that her past has been all lies and wants revenge more than anything. Noreen is determined to prove her loyalty, so she teams up with Rhi to get the proof she needs.
The battle is drawing near and everyone needs to be prepared. I anxiously await the next book to see the Dragon Kings and the Reapers win. I for one want to see Ubitch finally get what she deserves.
I received an ARC from the author for my honest opinion.
Another beautiful story by Donna. I am a big fan of hers years now and each new book she writes makes me love her style and characters even more. I will not write a lot about the storyline because I don’t want to spoil anything but as you notice one more dragon king finds his mate!! This story touched me so much that I consider it one of my favorites from Donna. The plot is full of action, feelings and yes drama! I loved Cain and Noreen, they are a dynamic couple and I think it was nice that we had the chance to meet some “kind” members of the Others. This book showed me also a side of Con I didn’t know. A sentimental one ; a weak one ; and I don’t know how can I wait until August for his book. Overall it is a very interesting story with a very sentimental ending that will make you want more. Donna Grant is one of my top 3 paranormal romance writers and I never looked back since reading her books. She still keeps me hooked after so many series. I love her!
Noreen and Cain are amazing! This is my first book in this series and I feel like I jumped into a whole new world that’s exciting, dangerous and passionate. Noreen goes against what she has always known to do what’s right and that just sold me on her immediately. They can’t fight their attraction and pull for long but they also have to decide what is best for themselves and everyone else. I will be picking up the other stories now.
Where do I start? I loved Cain and Noreen.I have been waiting for another King to fall for a Dark Fae, it was just a matter of time. Noreen is probably one of my favorite women is this series. Lot of information to disgust about the Others in this book. Some of the questions we have wondered about since Fever are answered, but trust me on this one, you will walk away with even more. Inferno will be the last book in this story arc, but have no fear the Dragon Kings will keep going. I am so glad that Donna Grant has plans to write more. With every book I want more of the Kings, Faes, Reapers, and all the other characters. I love the world she has weaved and hope for many many more Kings books.
WOW!! This book is amazing and it really got me hooked into the story. So much is revealed in this book and I am so sad that the series is almost over but I know I will be reading the entire series again in the future.
Flame
I’m going to start this review off by saying I’ve never read anything by Donna before and when I applied for this book, I had no idea it was a part of a series – let alone the 17th book in that particular series I really just liked the cover…I know I judged the book by its cover
Suffice to say I plodded along and I really enjoyed the story, the characters and even the hint the Dragon Kings had of an accent. I’m thinking it’s going to be in my best interest to start at the beginning so I have a better grasp of the story and how this unravels but I really enjoyed the story otherwise and I look forward to starting at the beginning
I received an advanced copy via Netgalley and thank the author and publisher for a chance to review
Readers of Fantasy and Paranormal Romance will love this book. Flame continues the Dark Kings series by Donna Grant. I was hooked from the first chapter. Noreen, a Dark Fae, is intriguing and her claim to have information to share with the Kings about the Others is suspicious. More intriguing is her reaction to Cain, the Dragon King who is tasked with investigating her. This story is full of beloved characters, hints and revelations, and a love story full of passion and tested by deception. A great read.
FLAME ARC Review every time I start reading one of Donna Grant’s books I cannot put them down! Donna Grant’s amazingly wonderful imagination takes us on Cain’s investigation into a mysterious Dark Fae Noreen who has email the Dragon Kings with information regarding the most powerful enemy they have faced.
Throughout this book I was not able to put it down trying to discover if Noreen was good or up to no good in order to take down the Dragon Kings or someone close to them all. With an enemy closing in fast will Cain seek the answers the Kings so desperately need or will they be betrayed? Will Cain fall for the beautiful Dark Fae one of their enemies?
This is book 17 in the Dragon Kings series and will leave you reaching for the caffeine to keep you awake and read the whole book! This amazing book takes us on an adventure with these 2 characters and their undeniable attraction. The question in this book with a Dark Fae is Cain’s heart safe or will Noreen betray him? You will have to read Flame to find this out!!!
All I can say is Donna Grant you are an amazing Author you have nailed it again. Now a lot more of the puzzle pieces are coming together and we get a slight glimpse of what’s going to happen in the next book. I am giving this book 5 stars Donna Grant’s books are so easy to read and if you haven’t read her books before this one it will certainly leave you wanting more. Pre order or buy now you will not be disappointed I am so looking forward to all the future novels as the stories continue.
Thank you so much Donna Grant for taking our imaginations on this new adventure.
Wowzers!! This book was so good. And intriguing. And captivating. And..and..and…I loved it so hard!!! (If you couldn’t tell…LOL). Seriously, it was great. The characters, the story, everything. Yes, it’s part of a long-running series (this is book 17) but I think you could read this book ok as a stand-alone….but you’re going to want to go back and read the other 16 books.
I recommend this book and the whole Dark Kings series.
Thank you to the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
Flame – Can Cain, King of the Navies trust a Dark Fae and handle Noreens past? Can a Dark Fae with tons of secrets be in love with a Dragon King? As Cain protects Noreen, she shares information that might help the Kings in their battle with the Others. Noreens decision to help the Kings was a long thought out plan. Everything is coming to a head. This story has twists and turns and all the emotions. While this story could be read on its own, I highly recommend delving into the Dark World created by Donna Grant. She has created a well thought out world with incredible characters. I love finding a series that I can immerse myself in.
This is book 17 in the Dark Kings series and I would absolutely read the previous books before reading this one as there is a much bigger story ARC that goes through all the books, each story pushes that story ARC further on it’s path. In this one we get Cain and Noreen’s story. Cain seriously distrusts not only mortals but fae as well. He was born a warrior and with everything in him he needs to keep his people safe. When a warning comes from a dark fae, can he trust her? Or the attraction he feels for her? Noreen has decided to warn the Dragon Kings when she finds out exactly what those of her kind and the Others have planned for them. She has her own code that she lives by and she refuses to cross certain lines, even if it means her life. But when she meets Cain, she never realizes exactly how much she has truly risked in order to do the right thing.
I absolutely loved this one!! Noreen may be a dark fae but she is still this woman who is willing to do what she must for what she believes in. Even when it will probably cost her everything. She is strong, kick butt, but also this lovable woman. Cain has trust issues and I couldn’t blame him. But once he gives his heart, he doesn’t hesitate to do the things that he needs to do. He not only is willing to protect her but he is willing to find her a place where she can be safe. And then you get the bigger story ARC and how this story just helped push it even more forward. On the one hand, I am so ready for the next book so that I have all the answers that I need! But on the other hand, I know that I will be crying and heartbroken over the things that I know are coming for this next book. Especially after that epilogue…I just know I will be crying and need my tissues!!!
