Cain and Noreen are great leading characters! Cain is pretty straight-forward as Dragons go but Noreen? Oh that woman has secrets, layers and layers of secrets! Just when you think you have her sussed, blam another secret. This book just gives more weight to the old saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. Another example of that is Ubitch – I mean she is just rotten to the core!
I’m now on tenterhooks for the last Dragon Kings book. I’m torn – I want the conclusion to the story arc, to know EXACTLY what happened and when. I need to know that my faith in Ubitch being the worst baddie in the world is justified LOL!
Please read this series in order, along with its offshoots. It just helps so much to keep Dragon Kings, Mates and assorted other characters straight in your head.
PS I do hope ol’ JusticeBringer is sharpening his skills – I think his time to shine draws near!
Wow! Action-packed, information overload, hot hot hot!
Cain is a King that takes his time, watches and sees all sides. So when he comes across an email with information that may just help them in their battle against the others, he volunteers without question. He does not however expect to be drawn to the Dark that sent it. He feels a need to keep her safe from her former group, whilst getting all the information she can provide.
Noreen has spent her entier life hating the Kings, plotting to destroy then with glee. Until she discovers that all is not what it seems, and she sets out to bring them down. Atleast from and information point of view. She finds herself drawn to Cain. He is a strong, magnificent creature in Dragon form and a caring, protective man. Their relationship will be hard, enemies are everywhere as the final battles draw nearer and the allies gather.
This is not a story that you will want to miss, the end is getting closer and no one should miss a single book! Well done to the Donna Grant! Outstanding, five fire-breathing stars!

Noreen is a Dark Fae and is a part of the Others, a group wanting to destroy the dragons. She has a harbored a hatred against the Dragon Kings because they killed her parents. But she has a change of heart and tries to contact the Dragon Kings to tell them the Others plans. Cain is the Navy Dragon King and is the one who gets the strange email. He goes to meet the whistleblower and finds Noreen. Cain must hide Noreen to keep the emperess of the Druids/ Others from killing Noreen. She tells everything she knows about the Others and their plans to kill the Dragons. Can the Dragon Kings stop the attack or will they enter into another war?
I believe this is my very favorite story in this series. Dragons, faeries, mortals, and immortals. Shocking secrets and some sex. You are in for a roller coaster of a ride. I can’t wait for the next one.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Love this series.
I am not sure which I enjoyed better, the book or the audiobook. This book will have you on the edge of your seat. You won’t know who to trust. You won’t know if you are cheering on the right person. I can’t believe I am actually liking the reapers.
Noreen discovers that everything she believed in was a lie. Knowing she could never live with herself if she didn’t warn the Dragon Kings of the Other’s plans, she reaches out but tries to keep her identity secret. Cain is put in charge of finding out everything about the person sending the warning and discovers Dark Fae Noreen. Now Noreen is in danger and Cain, although she is his enemy has a plan to keep her safe not to mention new found feelings begin to arise, will it work?
There is so much more to the story that I am not going to divulge because if you are new to this series or a fan of this series you are going to want to read how this plays out. I thought the story started with a bang and did not let up and by the end I was not sure how it would play out. Another wonderful addition to the series.
Having read some of these every time I see one I go into it. In this one when we enter in we are given a treat. Cain distrusts put him on guard when a dark Fae comes to warn the Dark Kings. Her integrity could not let this happen if she could stop it. Noreen has us on edge at times because of the dangers she is risking and among other things. The spark that goes on between the two flames with it being a reason I read such as these. The journey of this love growing and the tribulations that it faces is what a page turner is about.
Please note that this book is a part of a series… But what a series! I have never been so engrossed in a story like the one that Donna Grant has created. This book does not disappoint and will make you experience almost every emotion out there. I could not recommend a book, series, or author anymore than I recommend Donna and the Dark World. This book draws you in, then makes you laugh, cry, and be angry, all while explaining some unanswered questions….

Although I haven’t read any other books in this series, I had no problem following along with the storyline. I will be going back and reading more of this authors books. Cain and Noreen just about ripped my heart out, but then they put it back together. From just this one book I can tell this would be an amazing series to read. I would certainly recommend it to those that enjoy this genre of book.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and this is my fair and honest review.
We are now 17 books in, I think, and the complex story that Donna Grant is weaving is very intriguing. If you haven’t read any of the other books I highly recommend going back to the beginning and starting with Hal’s story.
I liked both Cain and Noreen. I really liked that Noreen had some excellent personal growth. I sometimes find it difficult to believe an ancient being would have dramatic growth within one novel but MS. Grant does an excellent job of making the growth believable and pertinent to the story. I don’t think Cain has that much growth but I do think he is an excellent counterpart to Noreen.
The world has been crafted over many novels and it is vibrant and rich. Even the side characters have personalities that shine through as we see glimpses of them throughout the series. Several of them also have their own series (The Repears and the Warriors) which I also recommend.
If you do not like steamy books or insta-love this series (or any of the others mentioned) may not be your thing. But if you believe in fate and would mates I think you will really enjoy this series.
Happy Reading!
Who do you trust? That is the question you ask throughout the book. Cain is sent to find out if the Dark Fae can be trusted to give the information needed to thwart the destruction of The Dragon Kings. Noreen has been a Dark Fae and an Other all her life. She has come to the conclusion she has been on the wrong side. There is no love lost or trust between them but a spark was ignited. For a moment in time, it was just the two of them. The real world came crashing through. Trust has been lost Love is being tested. Life and death situations are discussed. In the end it is the Light Fae(Rhi) and Dark Fae (Noreen) coming together to fight a common enemy. Moreann managed to escape with the help of Usaeil. Rhi is upset that she failed but it will be her that puts an end to them both. Only Noreen believes it is her revenge to take against Moreann. I can’t wait to see how this all ends.
Flame by Donna Grant places the Dragon Kings of Scotland at the end of a progressively developing war. As good as this news is, we are beginning to gauge the extensive toll it is taken on several principal characters. With the most important battle yet to come, some personal issues need to be properly resolved before the team can present a unified front.
Cain and Noreen suffer a challenging time during their budding romance. Their tale is tense and gripping. The couple’s chemistry is fantastic, and their resolution is completely satisfying. Absolutely, under no circumstances, should you willingly miss this remarkable book. We are in deep guys and boy is there a stunning, informative, and exciting amount of lore addressed here. Many of my theories are this close to being revealed, and it is driving me crazy, in a pleasing way.
One warning, if the Dark Kings series is unfamiliar, it is probably inadvisable to start here. The couple’s story is independent, but the backdrop has advanced over several books. Reading Flame will spoil the larger storyline if one starts at the beginning later, which I highly suggest doing.
Thank you, Donna Grant, for this brilliant book and amazing series! I am completely satisfied with what Flame delivers us readers and cannot wait for more.
1st let me say that this was sent to me as an ARC from the author for an honest opinion.
That being said…..
Anyone who’s followed DG’s Dark series has been anxiously awaiting this one!!
So many questions throughout the series are answered but of course she has saved the best for next.
This is Cain and Noreen’s story and I couldn’t be happier with the direction that DG took this story in!!
Cain is the Ultimate strong silent type with a heart of gold.
Noreen is the Ultimate enemy, Dark fae and one of the Others.
Cain is sent to investigate a suspicious email and finds Noreen who says she’s ready to flip sides in the war.
The attraction between the two is almost instantaneous and I was a little surprised by how quickly I WAS ROOTING FOR THE ENEMY!! As this story unfolded I found myself back in one of my favorite places to be as a reader..I laughed, cried and screamed all the way through this!! Although Cain and Noreen have their HEA this Arc is far from over and I can’t wait for the Ultimate Battle to begin!!
(Note: Although this can be read alone I feel it’s only fair to say that afterwards you WILL definitely want to go back to the beginning and get caught up in this AWESOME world!!)
Absolutely Loved Cain and Noreens story. Passion fills these pagesfor sure. Great read especially if you like steamy hot dragon romance and huge plot twists.
Oh the plot with these Dragon Kings just gets deeper and deeper.
Donna Grant has created a very special, huge, epic world full of mythical creatures and things that go bump in the night with her Dark Kings series.
No one does Paranormal like this author.
Number 17 in the series and every book is original. Every Character different, and the bad guys just keep getting badder.
I don’t want to give any spoilers, so all I’ll say is Flame answers some questions along with delivering another excellent romance between Cain and Noreen. We also get to catch up a bit with our favorite Fae, Rhi. And most of the Reapers, visit inside the pages of this book too.
Flame is a big one in terms of characters, there’s a lot going on, but I never felt lost.
As with all Donna’s books, there is heartbreaking conversations, running from and toward the bad guys and a twist at the end that’ll leave you wishing for more.
Thank you Donna Grant for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book will pull at your quarantined heart, make you cry, make you laugh like a schoolgirl and make your walls crumble. Cain has never wanted a mate, he certainly didn’t look for one. But when he is sent to investigate some strange emails received by Dreagan, he got more than he bargained for with Noreen. Noreen knows there is a lot about herself she doesn’t know. So much she doesn’t remember – but in the company of Cain she not only finds herself but becomes so much more.
This book will get you through those long days that we currently have. You won’t want to put it down to feed your children or draw their bath. They can become self sufficient right? Kidding, go take care of your kids, Cain and the rest of the Kings will be waiting for you.
I am at a loss for words. This series is amazing and I can’t believe its almost over. So much happened and it’s hard to not give anything away. First, I am warning that you will probably be an emotional train wreck by the time you finish. Together Cain and Noreen discover much about the past. Some things will help the Kings, but others will hurt them in a way they hadn’t expected. While so many pieces are coming together, a few are becoming completely unraveled. The final battle is coming. It will take the Kings and all of their allies to win. While I am sad that only one more book is left, I am excited to see how it will all end. Or will it? Action packed from the very beginning. Surprises you never saw coming. And a love that managed to overcome the worst. Another edge of your seat read the draws you in unlike any other series has. This is my honest opinion of an advanced copy I received. Oh, and Con has some serious graveling to do. I hope he’s up for it.
Flame by Donna Grant
Dark Kings #17
Cain, a dragon king, is sent to find out if the email sent to warn them is valid or a tricky trap. So, off he goes, meets the sender, sets a debrief in motion and that debrief ends up rather steamy from time to time. The information Dark Fae Noreen has is from her time with the Others, a group that has a plot in play, a plot that will endanger the dragons. Will her information help? Is she a spy? Does she have information that will help?
The book has steamy romance, dragon kings, druids, fae, good and evil, an intricate plot, plenty of characters to track, side stories and threads that it would be helpful to have read previous books to understand all that takes place. The ending settles who the mate of Dragon King Cain will be but doesn’t necessarily provide a HEA for all of the dragons…yet.
I have not read the entire series of this made up world that the dragon kings belong to but have read enough to know that I really do want the various groups to find a solution that will make the earth a safe and happy place for all. I would love to find out if the dragons that were sent away are still alive and where they are and if they will ever return. I would love to see the fae realm come together and unite. I would love to find out what happens in the end. Not sure when that will be but hope it will be soon.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Paperbacks for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
Book 17. Action filled, enemies to lovers story. Always enjoy entering into this world. Can not wait for the next installment.
