Flame is the next Dark Kings book in New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant’s series. If she believed in destiny, she would believe they were meant for each other. But that fire was put out long ago. . . Living among the Dragon Kings, Cain has spent lifetimes learning to distrust both mortals and Fae. He is a warrior born–and every instinct demands that he fight to keep his own kind … instinct demands that he fight to keep his own kind safe. But when a fringe member of the Dark Fae contacts the Kings with an urgent warning, Cain is torn for the first time. How can he trust this beautiful creature when resisting his primal attraction to her is battle enough?
Noreen is horrified by what her kind and the malevolent Others are planning for the Dragon Kings. Dark Fae or not, there are lines she will not cross–even if it means risking her life. But she never imagined that she would risk her heart until she meets Cain. She wants him with a soul-deep desire that frightens her…and endangers them both. Is saying goodbye to everything Noreen has ever known worth a love that will span time and realms?

Flame is packed with an incredible journey that will captivate and consume you. From the first page to the last your hooked. Dragons, Faes, love and friends this is an amazing read. How far are you willing to go to do whats right.
Cain is the Dragon King of the Navies. He intercepts an urgent email offering help from an anonymous source. Cain offers to investigate their mysterious ally to see if she is legit or not. He offers Noreen protection for the information she carries. When the truth about her comes out, Cain feels conflicted between his mate and his brethren. Who will Cain choose? And will Noreen’s information prove beneficial against the Others?
Noreen is a Dark Fae. She is also a member of the Others, a group of dark and light Fae and good and evil druids. Noreen risks everything to provide the Dragon Kings with vital information about the Others. She never anticipated losing her heart to one. Noreen realizes everything she once believed turns out to be a lie. Can Noreen escape the Others? Or will she inevitably lead the Dragon Kings to their destruction?
Cain has this attitude that I enjoy reading. He is not quick to judge, nor does he take things with a grain of salt. Instead, he relies on body language and other tells to gauge the truth. I like Cain’s willingness to trust Noreen and her word. He has good reasons for distrusting humans and the Dark Fae, yet he still gives Noreen the benefit of the doubt. What I adore the most about Cain is how he refuses to abandon Noreen, even after she gives him the information he needs. He understands that she sacrificed everything to help his brethren in their upcoming war.
Noreen intrigued me from the beginning. She is no fighter, nor is she a coward. Her skill set is more with her words and mind. I like how Noreen refuses to endanger Dreagan and its inhabitants with her presence. She understands what they have already been through and wishes to spare them more harm. What I admire the most about Noreen is the inner strength it took to admit her betrayal. She knew coming clean to Cain would jeopardize their relationship; however, she no longer wanted to keep secrets from him.
FLAME is book seventeen in Donna Grant’s paranormal series, DARK KINGS. It is essential to read the previous books and novellas to understand the full situation. The plot is ongoing. I love how the author finally delves into the enigmatic Others, especially the leader and her ultimate agenda. Some questions are answered while new ones arise.
FLAME is an enthralling enemies-to-lovers tale. The author continues to shroud Rhi and Con’s mates in mystery. I cannot wait to see who she plans to write next. I hope it is Henry and Melisse.

A sweeping story full magic and intrigue with a love story woven in. The Dragon Kings have been a target for many years and they know another attack is imminent. When they are contacted with by someone who claims to have crucial information a series of events unfold. This story has all of the elements that I love in a great PNR story, dragon shifters being my favorite along with Fae and different realms.
I was sucked in from the beginning and just when you think you know what is going on a twist is revealed. Cain the king of the Navies, is a swoony lead. Noreen, is as beautiful as she is conflicted except for her feelings for Cain in such a short time. This is the second book in this series that I have read and I need to add the rest to my TBR and catch up.
Donna Grant’s novel “Flame ” is her next bestseller in her DARK KINGS story. It’s a story of love and trust; betrayal and subterfuge. Noreen was a Dark Fae who had a score to settle with the Dragon Kings. Cain was sent to scrutinize Noreen and her story. Although he wasn’t looking for his mate, sparks fly. Meanwhile we discover who Con, the King of Dragon Kings, true mate is. Donna Grant finally gives it up and divulges the answer to her readers number one question. Add in “the Others ” who work to further their plans to finish off all of the Kings. To say the least this book had me reading well into the night. I had fun riding on the back of a dragon through the ups and downs of a wonderful story. Thank you NetGalley for gifting me this arc book.
Flame is amazing. I laughed, I cried, I cried some more. There is so much content in this book and I don’t want to spoil any of it but know that you can NOT miss this book. It is amazing. I know a lot of my sadness comes from how close we are to the end of the series. This universe is one that I am not ready to leave. You will LOVE this book!! Trust me!! Go, go buy it right now!!
This is quite a new author to me so I wasn’t sure of her
writing style. But her telling of a story is fantastic.
I was absolutely hooked right from the beginning to the end.
I highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book via NetGalley
As usual another fantastic addition to the series. I can’t seem to get enough of this intriguing, action fill, twist and turn, and of course steamy romance story. I didn’t even realize when I got to the end of the book it was that good. Can’t wait to see what else is in store for this series. I received a free copy via Netgalley I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
*Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review* This book, just, wow. Donna Grant really is an amazing story teller, as Flame was one hell of a roller coaster. From the very first chapter the whole book was an emotional ride, passionate, heart breaking, and action packed. Ms. Grant has has begun to bring together and wave the many threads of this epic story, beginning to lead us to it’s conclusion as well as dropping some major twists in this book that will undoubtedly leave some jaws hanging. Cain and Noreen’s story was not what I was expecting, in a good way. I liked Noreen for she was a much different female character lead then what we’ve seen before. I also enjoyed seeing Henry get more page time, and am eager to see his roll play out now. There so much to unpack in this book, I think it’s easily one of my favorites in the series.
4.5stars
The dragons receive an anonymous e-mail relating to the Others and Cain is the one who goes reviewing the truth. What he didn’t count on was Noreen a Dark who pick his interest on a deeper level. The story stars light and easy but soon there are so many twists and surprises that I didn’t see coming. All of that with great characters make this book another great read.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley
This is the latest in this series and I’d definitely recommend that you read these in order because there’s a lot of catching up to do otherwise. Plus there’s a spin-off series about Reapers that greatly adds to the world building.
The Dragon Kings are currently at war with The Others who have powerful magic and have been secretly plotting and planning for decades. So when a member of The Others emails to offer information Cain is nominated to go investigate . He discovers Noreen who is a Dark Fae and has had a change of heart about being a member of The Others . Trouble is by helping the Dragon Kings she’s put herself in serious danger but Cain has a cunning plan !
I really enjoyed this and its clearly building up because there are numerous clues here about a certain Dragon King and a Light Fae heavens who am I kidding it’s blindingly obvious but my lips are sealed. This was a good story with an interesting twist but I just didn’t particularly enjoy the romance. Perhaps it was just too quick but the overall storyline was very entertaining and I look forward to reading the next book.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I swear, with each book justice is just within our grasp when the author yanks it just out of reach again. It’s frustrating and addictive and I feel like when this series finally ends I be able to breathe again.
I’ve enjoyed each pairing in the series. I like how each mate the dragon kings find, have a part to play in the overall story. Noreen is a powerful player that has barely tapped into what she can do. I can’t wait to see what more will come from her. I did feel she got judged too much and I struggled a bit with that.
I loved how all-in Cain was. He didn’t hesitate to give Noreen his trust despite her being a dark fae. He was protective and fought for her. He did have a moment I wanted to shake him but overall, he was good for Noreen.
I can’t seem to get over how much gets revealed in each book, and yet more questions pop up. I want to know who Rhi’s Dragon King is. I want to know who Con’s mate is. I want to know how the final battle will go down. I have a few predictions. Hopefully I’ll learn if I’m right or wrong soon.
For long timed fans of Donna Grant’s Dark World, Flame marks the second last book for the Dark King series. The book opened with Noreen, a dark Fae who is also part of Others (that nefarious group that wanted to kill our Dragon Kings) who send an anonymous (or so she thought) email to our Dark Kings warning them about the Others. Con then send Cain to investigate further and so the adventure begins.
I’ve been waiting for Cain’s book for quite a long time, at one point I even thought Cain was Rhi’s mysterious King. Did I love this book? Heck yes I do! It might be a slow start but I devoured every moment of it, I appreciate that Donna Grant took the time to build us up to the finale in this book. Oh and what a finale it was indeed! For us loyal readers, you’ll be pleased to know that we have tremendous payoffs in this book. Quite a bit of loose ends finally came together and we even see cameos of Reapers and Death. We see the vulnerability of a fearless and stoic leader, we also worry of a beloved character going to the dark side.
All of us readers are dying to know who Rhi’s Dark King is, did we finally get the reveal? Maybe or maybe not, you just have to read the book! Flame can be considered as one of Donna Grant’s finest works, it will make readers clamouring for the Con’s book to come earlier than slated.
I was lucky to be gifted with a copy by Netgalley, however the views above are all of my own.
Noreen, a member of the Others, is horrified when she realizes the truth about their plan. She decides that the only way to stop it is to tell the Dragon kings and hope they don’t kill her. What she doesn’t expect is to fall in love with a King. Caine just wants any information he can get about the Other plan for the Kings but the longer he is with Noreen the more he wants her. But can he trust her?
Wow, so much happened in this book and I cannot wait to read the next one. I was a little apprehensive at the beginning of this book and wasn’t sure I would like where the story was going but dang was it good. I just got sucked in with every passing page and couldn’t put it down.
Noreen betrays the Others to tell the kings the truth but never expects to fall for Caine. Noreen is a Dark Fae but doesn’t kill ruthlessly like most of her kind. She has her own code and knows not to do true evil. With the help of the Kings and Reapers she finally learns the truth about her past and the Others. She was so strong, even though she wasn’t a warrior. She stepped up when she knew she was the only one who could possibly help turn the tide against the Others. I really liked her and hope we see more of her in the future. I especially want to see her and Rhi become friends.
This was a great enemies-to-lovers romance. Caine and Noreen had an instant attraction that was filled with a lot of emotions. Caine gives Noreen the truth of her past and helps her work through the pain of it. I love how supportive Caine is of Noreen. He doesn’t hold the fact she is a Dark Fae against her. He sees the truth of her and stands up to the other Kings because of that.
Like I said earlier, a lot happens in this book. We have love, betrayal, the return of an enemy, new revelations about the past, and the breakdown of a leader. It is so much but all so good. I really can’t wait to get my hands on the next book, which might be the last, because I know it is going to be mind blowing and amazing.
*ARC provided by Netgalley for an honest review.*
This is Book 17 in the Dark Kings series. Noreen knows that she’s basically committing suicide when she decides to tell the Dragon Kings what the Others are planning. But it has to be done! Now she has to convince Cain that she’s not trying to trick them. This will keep you on the edge of your seat as you read it. There’s a lot happening and it’s explosive! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.
Another great book by this author! This is the 17th book in the King series and it is still going strong. This one is about Noreen and Cain and is a story about love between enemies. The storyline is very strong and well thought out. Some of the characters from other books are in this one as well so that is always nice to catch up with old friends. The book kept my attention from start to finish, My only problem is now I have to wait for the next one!!
I was given an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review, so I sincerely hope some of the criticism will be taken to heart and changes made to this book before it publishes in June. When I first saw the cover of this book, it grabbed my attention. The characters have a special magic to them, drawing you to them. I was intrigued with them and delved into the story from the start.
Yet, though the characters were captivating, I found that I was skipping over so many details of the plot. When I grabbed this book, I had no idea this was book 17 of 18, so maybe that’s part of the issue, but there are so many characters, relationships, mates, allies and betrayals, etc. to keep track of that I gave up and plowed through it just to see what would end up happening. Part of me is absolutely flabbergasted that there are 17 books prior to this, and that the storytelling is so all over the place. Yet the other part wonders if I had started from the beginning, I might not have been so lost. In the end, this seems to be more of a bridge between stories in the series. There really is a lot of talk and very little action. There is seriously so much talk that it distracted from any plot development though I can tell the author was trying to do just that through conversion. At one point, Grant even mentioned a plot point why one character turned from light to dark, yet a chapter or two later, a mate makes the same point and the recipient says they never even thought of that until the mate mentioned it. Wait what? You literally JUST said that!
I really hope some changes are made before the final publication, because there is a lot of potential. The characters and world are great; it just needs a good deal of improvement on the storytelling.
