One summer. Three months.Ninety days spent learning every inch of Sam Matthews’ body.We agreed to no strings when our time was up. We promised we could both handle this.I lied. I never expected to fall for this man or this town. This was just supposed to be a stop on the way to starting my real life. But now, time is up and everything feels wrong. He says I’m too young. He says I’m too innocent. He … says I’m too young.
He says I’m too innocent.
He says he’s not the type to settle down.
He’s fixing my newly inherited home.
Now, I’m fixing his frame of mind.
A Stand-Alone Romance
more
Fixing Him is a mixed bag of romance tropes. We get contemporary, romantic comedy, coming of age, new adult, older man/younger woman, a bit of steamy fun, and small town romance all terrifically blended with an emphasis on lighthearted romantic comedy. While the story does feel a little drawn out given the low angst level, it is filled with wonderful characters and witty dialogue, including Montana’s inner dialogue which is the source of several chuckles along the way. I love that even though Sam is the older of the two and oh, so serious, he does a lot of growing up on an emotional level as he and Montana get to know each other, and his aha moment is just perfect. The angst in the romance is exactly as I expected, coming from the feelings that grow between this couple despite their insistence that it’s just a fling, so there really aren’t a lot of surprises in the story, which keeps the mood light and the story engaging. All in all, Sam and Montana’s story is fun, entertaining, and full of characters so real they practically leap off the page.
So good! What’s not to love about a summer romance with a swoony hero, a feisty heroine, and a cute pig named Kermie? Five stars 🙂
Montana recently inherited a house after the passing of her grandfather, and her plan is to hire a contractor and spend the summer in Lakeside, Tennessee getting the house ready to sell. The one big thing she didn’t plan on was that the contractor was going to be sexy as hell and all sorts of swoonworthy. This summer may have just gotten more interesting than Montana thought it would be.
“He totally knows I’m currently imagining what he looks like without those jeans and T-shirt on. His sexy dark brown eyes staring straight into mine.”
When Sam’s boss sends him over to the lakeside house to give a quote for Kade construction he doesn’t know what to expect but he knows he in no way prepared to meet sweet, quirky, beautiful and too young for him Montana. Sam isn’t into relationships and has no problem finding willing companions to warm his bed for the night but even though sparks fly between these two from the first time they meet he promises himself he won’t get involved with Montana. But how long can he resist her when she makes it her mission to get him off the ladder and into her bed?
“She would be nothing but trouble, but that doesn’t mean I’m not intrigued.”
So what happens when a summer fling that’s supposed to be no strings possibly turns to more? Can Sam open his heart and if he does will Montana stay? I loved the banter between these two and how Montana would relentlessly flirt with poor Sam who so obviously didn’t stand a chance of resisting no matter how much he thought he could. I really thought there wasn’t a leg for Sam to stand on with the whole age thing, I mean we aren’t talking that many years difference here. There were parts of the book that were just so drawn out that I was like…come on with it and get where we all know you are going. But overall it was a fun and easy read.
“Do you not know I’d go anywhere if it meant I got to see you?”
5 Stars
I could NOT put this book down once I started it!!! We previously met Sam, best friend and coworker to Kane in Fixing Her (also an amazing story with a fantastic couple). Sam is not looking for any sort of relationship, he just does not have time. He is the man everyone can count on to be there for them and is the ultimate selfless caretaker (as well as ladies man when he feels like it, but only for one night per lady). Well, when he winds up thrown into the path and life of Montana, a young woman needing her newly inherited lake house updated, he starts to realIx wall the fun, laughter and enjoyment he can have along with all the responsibility. Again, Miranda Elaine gives us a very realistic love story, these are two people you may know, maybe grew up with or are even your best friends. I love the way she gives us a story that is fun, sexy, whimsical and realistic. There is no doubt you need this book added to your TBR and I for one cannot wait for the next book in this series!!!!
Cara – Alphas Do It Better Book Blog
Montana is a girl with a wild and free spirit! Having inherited her grandparents lake house she’s decided to spend the summer, fixing it up with a view to selling it.
Sam is in construction and hoping to become a partner, whilst at the same time he takes care of his wheel chair bound father.
They meet when Sam becomes the foreman for her renovations. The attraction between both is instant but Sam is determined nothing will happen. His life is set, work, looking after his dad, and relationships other than the odd hook up are definitely out of the question, besides the age gap just won’t work for him. Montana is a girl we would all want to be, she’s strong, independant, firey, and totally loveable. To be honest, she doesn’t stand a chance of not falling for Sam!! He’s everything you would want in a man, with the added bonus of being hot, delicious and sexy as all out !!!
I loved how their relationship formed, and found myself really rooting for Montana to get her man !! Nothing was easy for this couple, they were both set in their ways, and had issues to over come, but what i loved most that it was all done it such a realistic way. Two people meet, and grow together !!
This is a really enjoyable romance that is most definitely picking up and escaping into. Just be prepared for lil piggies, fun, romance that makes you melt, and emotions that have you tearing up and smiling at the same time. As a first read for me from this author, i can honestly say, I am definitely looking forward to more !
4 Stars!
The Review:
Fixing Him was a simple, easy to read romance that started as a summer fling and ended with a happily ever after.
This is my second read by this author and as I said after reading her debut book, she’s been added to my must-read list. There’s a good reason for it. It’s tough to find an author you can read and leave, a book or story you can just sit down with and have fun. Don’t get me wrong. I love the deeply angsty books. I love the heartwrenching, soul-crushing, books. But sometimes, I just want a solid romance with a good story that doesn’t sink me into the “feels” firmament. A book that makes me smile or laugh or come away feeling like I connected to real characters I could share a journey with for a little while. This is that kind of read. Light, fun and sexy.
Just like Miranda Elaine’s first book, Fixing Her, this book was full of romance, quirky and enjoyable characters that had heart and were easy to connect with, and a solid story I thoroughly enjoyed. Montana and Sam were sexy and entertaining. They weren’t overly dramatic nor were they deeply scared, so this read was witty, romantic and filled with a lighthearted story I was hooked on from the moment I opened the book until the second I finished the last page.
Story/Characters…
Montana Rhodes has just inherited her estranged grandfather’s lake house. She’s had an unusual upbringing, traveling around from place to place with her parents and her twin brother, she’s never settled down in one place for very long. Thinking she’ll sell the lake house and move on, she hires a sexy contractor to help her get things in order, but the temptation to have a summer fling with the hammer-wielding god is too much to resist. It’s just the summer, so why not, right?
Sam Matthews is the foremen for Kade Construction. He’s had a rough life but is surrounded with good friends he’d in return do anything for. He’s trying to move up in the Kade business and he takes care of his paralyzed father who was involved in an accident years before. He doesn’t have much time for anything personal and loss has made him wall up his heart and vow to stay a bachelor for the rest of his life. That all seems to change the moment the young, blond bombshell hires him to fix her lake house. All his walls can’t seem to keep her from breaking right through them. It’s only for the summer, right? Why not…
I really enjoyed Montana. She was flirty, outgoing yet shy and animated to the point of being sort of hilarious. She liked to live free, with a joyous outlook which half the time landed her in the most ridiculous situations.
Sam was a brooder … and a ladies man. He liked to bed them and forget them. He thinks his life is too complicated for commitment, too filled up with caretaker responsibilities to add more to it. I love that he learns that love doesn’t have to be a responsibility, but a treasure and a relief if you’re with the right person.
Montana’s openness and carefree spirit was a direct contrast to Sam’s closed off gloom. Together, she teaches him to live and love and he teachers her stability and roots. I loved it!
And we have to talk about their chemistry. This author is getting better and better at writing those tummy tingling scenes that just make you smile and fan yourself at the same time. Whoohoo! And I can’t close this review without mentioning the side characters. I loved them all, including Kermie who sometimes stole the show!
The Wrap Up:
Fixing Him had a well-written story with connectable characters and a plot that wasn’t entwined with drama overload. I enjoyed the returning characters from Fixing Her and the insights into their continuing lives.
As a side note, this is read as a standalone and you don’t need to read Fixing Her first to follow along with this one. However, I suggest it because it was really good.
Loved this one. Sweet and lovable. Enjoyable from beginning to end. A gripping moment when you have to stop and take a breath but overall a wonderful book. I absolutely love Sam and Montana. Montana and her pig Kermit are just amazing together. These two together are absolutely amazing. Love how easily they get along. The story line was amazing. Miranda has gained a fan. Highly recommend reading this one.
Montana comes to Sam’s town to get the house that her grandfather left her rehabbed. She’s a free spirit and likes to move around a lot like how she grew up. There’s another adventure right around the corner. While Sam loves his part of the world and doesn’t see changing his ways for no one. He wants more in his professional life and is content in his personal life or is he?
Montana makes no bones about what she wants for the summer and she wants Sam. She doesn’t care about the age difference, it’s just a number to her. She’s funny, feisty, charming and very likable. Plus she’s got a pet pig named Kermie. Who wouldn’t fall in love with Kermie?
While they say they have a summer, what if they want more but are afraid to say it? Will one of them be able to step out of their comfort zone and really go after what they want? A sweet book that I really liked! First book that I’ve read from this author and I plan on reading more of!
I haven’t read Fixing Her, book one, however I aim to remedy this very soon as I really enjoyed this story which was my first taste of this author but not my last.
Sam Matthews meets Montana Rhodes when she inherits her grandfather’s lake house and needs it renovated. He is just the guy to do it! He is also just the guy to get her heart racing too.
Oh boy is Sam a hot, hunky male but more importantly he has a wonderful caring attitude toward others, even if that means he puts himself last. Montana is a young, attractive woman who shows she definitely isn’t the traditional airhead blonde and is also a deeply caring person. Together they are fantastic.
Yes, the story is a little bit predictable however it really is a sweet romance with a hefty dose of fun thrown in as well. The secondary characters are all terrific too, especially Kermie, Montana’s miniature pig! All of the characters are easy to relate to, well maybe not so much Kermie, but everyone else!
Fixing Him is a fast paced story and extremely easy to read, it also leaves you feeling fabulous. Now that’s what I look for in a story! I look forward to the next story.
Book 2 in the Fixing Series by Mirnda Elaine but it certainly can be read as a stand-alone.
This book has all the feels you get from a great read, it’s one of those books that you don’t want to end and it’s one of those books that you will read again and again.
Montana is a free spirit she loves life to the fullest moving around with her pet piglet Kermie and she is a character I fell in love with because she is everything I’m sure we would all love to be, fun, free yet level headed and so down to earth.
Sam is the foreman in charge of the renovations on the house Montana has just inherited and he is just adorable, he is swoon worthy and has a great attitude to life apart from his heartbreaking views on love, will Montana be the girl to change those views…..
This book is beautifully written, it has characters you will fall in love with, it will make you smile and it will have you hoping and wishing for a HEA for Sam and Montana. This story is about two people learning about love and relationships with the perfect mix of passion and humour. Looking forward to more from Miranda Elaine
Format: Kindle Edition
Sam was a contractor hired to remodel Montana’s lake house. Sam is a laid back country boy who works hard and loves harder. Montana has a spitfire personality that makes it hard to not want to be her friend. Sparks fly as soon as Montana meets Sam. Hands down favorite character is Kermie , I m not sure who loves the pig more Sam or Kermie . Read on to find out.
Montana is a free spirited girl, who doesn’t take life too seriously. She makes her own rules, and goes where her heart leads her. This time around it has lead her to Lakeside, where her grandfather’s cabin resides. She has recently inherited it, and she wants to spruce it up a little and get it on the market, then be on her way. While she is there she also plans to relax and get a little life reboot before her next adventure. She knows the work that needs to be done on the cabin is a little out of her wheelhouse, so she puts in a call to the local construction company, and winds up meeting the sexiest man she has ever laid eyes on. The moment Sam Matthews shows up on her doorstep she is instantly smitten, his kind eyes draw her in and make her want things, things that could worth be sticking around for. But he doesn’t do forever… and she isn’t prone to staying in one place for very long!
The moment I cracked the cover on Fixing Him I found two charming characters awaiting me, and a story I couldn’t help but become addicted to. These two were quite the pairing, both had their little hang-ups, and reasons to avoid love, but they quickly learned that love wasn’t playing. The sparks were evident with their first meeting, and they just continued to multiply with every interaction that followed. They had my tablet steaming over more than a few times! I really enjoyed this first time read, it impressed on all fronts, and gave me everything (and more), that I look for in a story. It was an passionate and engaging story, with superbly crafted characters that instantly found their way into my heart! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

A Fixing Novel
The story of Sam and Montana. We met Sam briefly in the first novel, Fixing Her. But rest assured this story can totally be read as a stand alone. I will admit it was lovely to see past characters.
Sam is strong, he will do anything for anyone. But at what cost? He is looking for a reprieve, a bit of calm and breathing room and he finds it in Montana.
Montana is a child of nomadic parents. She is free spirited, take no bull, quirky kind of gal. She may be young in age, but she has an old soul. She starts to realize that maybe being a nomad isn’t what she wants anymore and then Sam walks into her life.
Sam & Montana’s chemistry is smokin hot. I enjoyed reading about Sam reluctantly falling for wiles and he makes no complaints of it when he does. I also admired Montana’s strength as she tried to keep what her and Sam had as carefree as she could.
I loved the secondary characters and loved reading about past characters, it was like a little family reunion! Oh and now, thanks to Elaine, I want a Kermie of my own and know the only way that will happen is if Kermie learns to fly!
You can see Ms. Elaine’s writing just getting better and better! Well done!
In my opinion, writing romantic comedy is difficult. So, I when I discover an author who presents comedy organically and effortlessly, I’ll add them to my favorites list. Last year, Miranda Elaine published her debut novel, Fixing Her, and when the book landed on my kindle radar, it brimmed with potential for a great summer read. By the time I finished, I’d laughed out loud several times, fanned myself more than once, nervously chewed on a fingernail or two and shed more than a few tears. Miranda Elaine has a true talent for making the reader feel everything her characters are going through, and so I was truly excited when she followed up her spectacular debut with Fixing Him.
This novel centers on a young, free-spirited woman named Montana. Raised by parents who live a nomadic lifestyle, she’s grown up with a wealth of experiences. When her grandfather passes away, Montana’s fortune expands when she inherits his home in the wealthy community of Lakeside. Having just graduated from college, Montana decides to spend her summer fixing up the house, with her pet mini pig, Kermie, in tow. A socialite’s existence has never been her ambition, so her intentions are to sell the property once the remodel is complete and begin her life elsewhere.
When Montana enlists the services of Kade Construction, Sam is selected as the foreman on the remodeling project. He’s hard-working and loyal, both in his profession and in his personal life. He’s an established man in his thirties, living a bachelor’s life, but his time and attention are mostly spent looking after others – his clients, his friends, and especially his father who has been battling health issues. What little free time Sam has, he spends working on his own modest home, hopeful he can convince his ailing father to eventually move in with him.
When Montana and Sam meet face to face, there is an instant attraction. From the beginning, the flirting between the two is off the charts, but both are hesitant to act on their impulses. Montana knows her time in Lakeside is limited, and Sam is wary of seducing a much younger woman who is also a client. But the temptation proves impossible to resist. So, Montana and Sam reach a compromise. They decide to indulge themselves for the summer with the understanding that there are no strings attached. When the project is complete, their time will be up.
As I mentioned at the beginning of my review, Miranda Elaine has that special ability to make a reader experience a wide range of emotions. She excels in creating fully-realized characters you can’t help but fall in love with. Sam and Montana are a perfect duo – caring, smart, funny, and sexy as hell. When the inevitable complications of their friends with benefits agreement kicked in, it was refreshing to read how these two uniquely navigated their emotions and insecurities. Even Montana’s pet pig shines in this book. Kermie is the ultimate scene stealer, so much so that I informed my husband I’m now considering getting my own mini pig!
Fixing Him was the perfect follow up from this author, and I’m eagerly awaiting the release of Miranda Elaine’s next book in this series. Five enthusiastic stars from me.
Fixing Him is a wonderful followup to Fixing Her. Sam and Montana are opposites in many ways. Montana is younger and a bit quirky. Sam is an all around good guy and believes he is too old for Montana. The secondary characters were wonderful and could have their own books in the future. (yes, please) This is a wonderfully sweet and sexy read. There are a few obstacles but nothing that leaves your soul hanging out in the cold. It was funny, lighthearted and totally a feel good romance. It was just what I was looking to read and left me smiling. This is a new author to me but I will definitely be reading more that she writes.
Fixing Him by Miranda Elaine is a standalone romance that I highly recommend you read. This was such light-hearted funny read that I got lost into the writing at night. There was so much passion between these characters. And let’s not forget the perfect pet pig, Kermie.
Montana is spending the summer renovating her grandfather’s house while looking to start her life somewhere. What she didn’t expect was the sexy contractor Sam Matthews. Sam has a lot on his plate with work and taking care of his father, that he doesn’t have the time or want a relationship. Until Montana need help with her house; the only problem is Montana might be a little young for Sam or so he thinks. Can Sam get over the age difference and see Montana might be the right woman for him?
I can’t wait to see what Miranda will write next. I need more of her writing.
These characters are were a delight to read and get to know.
Fixing Him is the second novel in Miranda Elaine’s Fixing series of standalones. I absolutely loved it, and I love this author’s writing style! Miranda has a definite way with words, and as a new author, she’s already found her voice, and it’s sweet and sultry! Her writing is sharp and engaging, and her second solo novel was well polished, nicely paced and came together into a wholly addictive story that was as full of heart and heat as it was hilarious.
A light-hearted, easy-reading May-December romance, at its most basic, Fixing Him was about finding love when you aren’t looking for it. The author has a great sense of humor that she used liberally throughout this story. Montana may have only been in town temporarily, but she slid into life in small town Tennessee like she was born there. Sam wasn’t only a swoon-worthy hero, he was a really great guy, too. He was so busy holding it all together for everyone else in his life that he didn’t even realize that was kind of falling apart until Montana blew into town and breathed a little life into him. The side characters in this story were fantastic and added wonderful richness and depth to this story, and I adored Montana’s beloved pet pig, Kermie.
Once again, Miranda Elaine has left me fully entertained and thoroughly impressed with her writing. Fixing Him was a sexy and fun story brimming with humor and endearing characters. A charming premise and a heartstring-tugging, hot-as-the-Tennessee-summer-sun romance kept me smiling from cover-to-cover. I positively devoured this book, and I was left wanting more and excited about what will come next from the very talented Miranda Elaine. Five smooches from me for Fixing Him by Miranda Elaine!
