Wow. This story is about forgiveness, love, amazing characters and chemistry. I hated Blake but, also loved him at the same time. Loved it.
Another wonderful and emotional love story by Nicole Dykes. Fixation hooked me in from the start. I love listening to Nicole Dykes audiobooks, they always take me on an emotional roller coaster. Blake and Elle were perfect together. They don’t like each other at first, but the second time they meet, there’s electricity in air and they can no longer deny their attraction. Their chemistry in passionate, easy to get along, and they just seem to fit, even though they are complete opposites. Elle is a bookworm and Blake is functioning drug & alcohol addict, who denies help at every turn. He claims to just be bored with life, but as his relationship with Elle grows, he starts to realize maybe there is more to life than partying.
Thurlow Holmes & Dash Coleman do a great narration of Blake & Elle. I would say their British accents might need some work. But overall, their performance was wonderful. They brought on the angst and steam making this story captivating to listen to. This story was not as emotionally heavy like her other stories, but still as incredible. Definitely a must listen and if you’ve read/listened to Dyke’s Monroe series, they make an appearance in this book.
This books is so good! A good girl who thinks books are better the boys and a bad boy who doesn’t seem to care always make a volatile relationship with lots of steam. Add in those finding your self moments and the angst of denied love and you have a winner! From the opening sentence to the very last period I was totally invested in this story. If you’re are into audio books I highly recommend listening to this book. The narrators take this book to a whole new level! Both had amazing inflection and perfect bedroom voices that just notch up the heat factor durning the panty melting scenes.
Elle and Blake’s story is filled drama, angst, push and pull, and twists and turns. They are opposites attract: Elle is strong, and she has plans. Blake has no plans, and he has addictions. They share an instant attraction, and a sizzling chemistry. The supporting characters are great. Thurlow Holmes, and Dash Coleman did a great job with the narration.
Blake and Elle’s story was steamy! Thurlow Homes and Dash Coleman are the narrators of the audiobook and they did a terrific job, I have no idea how they survived. This story is fantastic, the banter and the chemistry between the characters is so much fun to read. It hooked me from the start and I really went through the whole audiobook in record time. The angst Nicole Dykes is known for sets her target high and I love that about her. Definitely a must-read!
Fixation
By: Nicole Dykes
Narrated by: Thurlow Holmes, Dash Coleman
Fixation is the perfect title for this book! I was totally fixated on the story as I listened. Nicole Dykes is such a talent. She writes her stories with such passion. Elle and Blake are polar opposites. She is a planner with a goal in life. He is a trust fund baby with a passion for partying and not ties. But the chemistry between the two is strong. So strong, the two are together all the time and feelings are growing. Until doubt comes into play. Will they find a way to keep it together or is their fixation with each other over? Dykes has crafted her characters so well, there were times I wasn’t sure how this was going to play out. Real depth, relevant issues and a love unmatched all come into play. I love the secondary characters too! Michael, Brandon and Gabby prove to be fantastic friends. Invested in the outcome of this couple, enjoying their witty banter and steamy passion, I listened straight through to finally find out their future! A fantastic listen and I can’t wait to dig into my next Nicole Dykes book.
Thurlow Holmes and Dash Coleman are perfectly cast for this book. Holmes has a voice will suited for Elle. Regimented in life she molds her personality. You can feel her emotions change just with her inflections. Coleman plays the perfect arrogant playboy, but is able to grow as Blake’s character does. It’s a fabulous team and a wonderful performance.

I listened to the audio book. Wow Blake and Elle’s chemistry is HOT! They started off as a fling with all the passion of hate and irritation. Their relationship was rocky for sure! The narration was great.
This author has amazing way of writing amazing story’s that will draw you in and have a hold on you throughout this story. This is a story of a cocky male that has money and don’t care about anyone and falls for a women that he has to work at getting back as the drugs have made lifestyle changes to get what he wants out of life.
Nicole Dykes is an Author I have been wanting to read for some time, she is known for her angsty romance and that is a must have element for any of my top romance reads. I actually listened to Fixation on Audio, Thurlow and Dash voicing Elle and Blake respectively did an amazing job on this one!
Fixation although a standalone in itself has ties to other books Nicole has written and it left me so so curious about the other characters featured. That said I didn’t find I was lost in any sense, I was just aware of a history when it came to characters like Gabby and Brendan and the Monroe family, so I hope to get stuck into Nicole’s back catalogue very soon.
The story is about Blake and Elle who share mutual friends and despite their relationship having a little enemies to lovers vibes and the promise of any attraction being purely physical, of course it turns into more. Blake is a bit of a lost soul, swept up in drugs, alcohol, sex and a devil may care attitude we are thrown straight into his despondency over living and getting clean from the start. He pushes people to prevent himself getting hurt but of course that can have disastrous consequences. Elle is an easy, chill girl not looking for strings, is happy to take what she needs from a man and move on. A woman with a plan for her career and personal life, she doesn’t want to deviate from that until Blake tips her world on it’s head.
I loved the snarky commentary between Hero and heroine, the chemistry was on point and the felt really relatable. Their story and what they were going through emphasised by the supporting characters resonates, and you truly root for them as a couple but heck does Elle make him work for it, which was perfect. I didn’t find this one super angsty, but it had enough for me to want more from this Author 100%. Fixation is absolutely an audiobook I will listen to again and again.
Fixation by Nicole Dykes is a contemporary romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Thurlow Holmes and Dash Coleman.
This is the first book of Nicole’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. Nicole did an amazing job on the storyline. I loved the chemistry between Blake and Elle. Their story will take you on an emotional roller coaster but you can’t help but root for them.
Thurlow and Dash did an amazing job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would highly recommend this book if you love Contemporary Romance.
4.25*
Another author I’ve been sleeping on and I’m kicking myself right now. This was so tense. I really didn’t know if Elle and Blake were going to make it. But the tension kept me hooked on these flawed characters right to the end. I did have to take a couple steps back a few times but that wasn’t anything to do with the book, otherwise I would have read this WAY quicker than I did. My eyes are open to Ms. Dykes now and for sure I’ll be reading more for her. I was given an ALC of this and I volunteered to leave an unbiased review. Thank you to the author. My opinion are review is uninfluenced and unbiased.
Audio Review:
Fixation is a rare graphical lovestory that is not just about the glitter and the glam, but the peaks and valleys. Characters are compelling with personalities that are flawed. Supporting characters enhance the impact of the story. I loved the epilogue bringing the Fixation to an end.
Narators Dash Coleman and Thurlow Holmes dual narration was impeccable. Ellie and Blake’s emotions were well embodied through Dash and Thurlow. Excellent naration.
Fantastic Story & Narration Heartfelt & Intense!
Fixation

Nicole Dykes delivers another fantastic novel, the book is well written, the original and interesting storylines swept me right in and captivated my attention from start to end. I love how she keeps everything real in this book, including the characters and what they go through as they deal with life struggles, I also love the character growth and development. I adored Elle, the lead female, she was a strong independent woman, she has her life plan mapped out, finish college start grad school and find her dream job. She is not interested in getting involved with anyone, she’ll stick to her books and have an occasional one night stand. Then there is Blake, he is a train wreck, living his life like it is one big party, drinks, drugs and woman, in no specific order. Elle had met him before, through her friend Gabby, he is friends and former party buddy with her boyfriend, Brandon. Gabby is not a fan of Blake and his lifestyle, afraid he may lure Brandon back into his partying ways. I loved the chemistry between Blake and Elle, it is smoking hot but their relationship turns in to one volatile and explosive ride. I was rooting for these two but Blake had issues and needed to get his head screwed on right before he wound up six feet under. This story is beautifully plotted, there is plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt and emotional moments and some hot romance. Nicole Dykes, thank you for the fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride,
I listened to the Audible edition, Thurlow Holmes and Dash Coleman are terrific narrators and voice artists. They were perfectly casted to bring these characters to life. They did a great job portraying them, giving each their own voice and personality making them sound just as I pictured them to sound. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured the characters emotions and projected them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen
Just a really lovely story! This just drew me in and is filled with ups and downs but it really just got to me. I hoped and wished for certain characters to have the strength to overcome. Finding out the reasons for the behavior was interesting. I REALLY want to give a SMACKDOWN to a certain guy but then I thought it might apply to a certain female as well for overlooking. Speaking of the characters I enjoyed and liked each one. They have spunk, tenacity and loyalty.
I get the feeling that this isn’t the first along this line. There were numerous character we met up with and they all had stories. I did listen to this on audio. This is a first time listen to me with Thurlow Holmes and Dash Coleman. Each was enjoyable to listen to.
I received an Audio code for this book from Nicole!! 🙂
Its a great listen and I recommend it.
Elle and Blake are two completely different individuals. Elle has a life plan for herself and has worked her ass off. She is organised and sensible to an over the top proportion in my opinion.
Black is the opposite, he has no plan and lives for the now. He has no ambition and no responsibilities. He is just what Elle needs to become less ‘uptight’ about her serious life. Elle is just what Blake needs to straighten his life out and give it meaning.
But can they each take this risky step to each other and out of their comfort zones?
Nicole Dykes’s Fixaction has everything and more. The perfect love story of opposites attract. A storyline that is very realistic in today’s world.
Bookworm Elle and Badboy Blake. I love how Elle, although seemed like she would be quiet and prudish was actually a take no BS little kitten. I totally enjoyed how Blake was able to redeem himself and was happy that the story didn’t drag on for us to get to that point. The smexy scenes are total fire and hotness!! As a side note, I wouldn’t mind if Gabby and Brandon got their own book. 😉
“She is the greatest fix of all time.” Perfect note to end the book on.
3.75 stars
I love it when I find books that weren’t on my radar before I end up loving them. This is exactly what happened with “Fixation”.
I have read a few books talking about addiction, but I fell in love with the plot and the way everything was presented. Let’s be honest, Blake is an a-hole during throughout the book, but there is something about him that keeps you intriguing, wanting to know more and more about him. On the other hand, Elle is far from perfect too. She seems real at every moment, like one of your friends. That combination makes this story so consuming, so raw, so addictive.
I wanted more and more every chapter. It’s definitely a wild ride. one you won’t regret getting on.
Wow! Holy crap!!! I should have known Nicole Dtkes was going to write another great one!!! I feel like every book she has written has been better and better and I have read just about all of her books. She is one of my favorite top 2 authors. Everyone of her stories had real life problems in them. Whether it be the drugs and alcohol or the crappy parents that kids have to deal with or whatever. She makes you feel like you are apart of the story and you just keep getting sucked in!!! I absolutely love Elle and Blake. She is the one who is in college and trying to do better for herself by herself and he is too dammed worried about drugs, drinking, girls and partying. But in the end they find each other. Another 5 start read!!! Congrats again Nicole!!!!
What is there not to love about Elle and Blake? I mean come one! Total enemies to lovers… Blake is constantly pushing Elle’s boundaries! I could not put this down. This book had me up way past my bed time because I wanted to see that they were going to do next! It was so good! I just wanted more and more of them! They are THAT good! Yes!!! I think you ALL need this book in your life!!!
One minute Blake is in the hospital and the next he’s walking into Aggieville Diner. He’s one arrogant person but Elle who works there knows how to handle jerks like him with her own sarcastic attitude.
To make things more interesting Blake is friends with Brandon who is dating Gabby who is best friends with Elle. Blake is also staying with Brandon and Gabby for a few weeks. So the possibility of Elle running into Blake again are pretty big.
If fate would have it Blake walks into the bar that Elle works as a second job. This bar ends up being the place that Blake stops in quite often for a drink. Some may wonder if he is going to this bar for other reasons. Blake is a person who never shows any type of emotions or feelings. While Elle is one for having her “head” in a book all the time.
Blake and Elle are 2 different people looking for different things but put you through this journey that is just so unforgettable!
Once I started reading this book I had a really hard time putting it down! It’s just that good!!!
