I felt this book from my head all the way to my toes. As a reader I ached for these two, especially Blake. Which usually isn’t the case.. usually it’s the heroine I connect with.
Dykes smashed these characters! I don’t know how she does it. She has all these amazing voices running through her head and when she gives them breath and puts their words to paper it’s pure magic!
This is a 110% Must Read! Yes it’s a standalone, but let’s just be real honest here… Why wouldn’t you want to start from her first book? All of her babies are golden. Don’t screw yourself, just one click them all!
Fixation is a standalone but I am extremely happy that I had read the Monroe’s series to understand more of why Gabby and Brandon respond to Blake the way they do and why Elle is so hesitant to trust him. Read to find out if Elle and Blake can weather the storm of addiction, fixation and facing life to give a relationship a fighting chance. Expect the reality of how fixating, no matter if it is a person or an addiction, has repercussions.
NICOLE DYKES CONTINUES HER STREAK AT BLOWING ME AWAY WITH HER WORDS!
I seriously could NOT put this book down.
Blake is definitely hard to love, but not gonna lie I have been dying for his story for the longest time!
And Elle…seriously could she be any better? She is beautiful and beyond relatable in so many ways! #BooksAreBetterThanBoys
Their journey was everything and then some!!!
IF I COULD GIVE FIXATION ALL THE STARS IN THE UNIVERSE, I WOULD!!
Lord have mercy, just when I think Nicole can’t get any better she give us Fixation!
This is beautifully written story of Elle and Blake. This isn’t a perfect love story, but it’s a real love story. It’s often times dark, hurtful, and obsessed, but oh so delicious!
Ms. Dykes will take you on an insanely hot, addictive, explosive journey. Through these characters, you will truly feel the pain that Elle and Blake experience.
Nicole has this amazing ability to share her passion in her writing. That passion is shown through each and every book you will read and that, will keep you reading for hours. You can just never get enough!
I might be in the minority on my thoughts on this book but I don’t care, it’s my review. Here’s my thought.. I loved Blake alot. I don’t know what it is about a troubled bad boy but I love them so much! He’s cocky, blunt and got bad boy written all over him. He doesn’t worry about much because he’s never had to. He’s a spoiled rich kid who was left alone a lot. What I love about Blake the most is that he speaks the most honest truth. He says things you don’t want to hear but know is true.. It may get him in hot water but he could care less. At first I wasn’t sure Blake was good for Elle but the more they spent together out of the bedroom made me realize they had a lot in common. The one thing I loved about Elle is that she didn’t push Blake to get better. She didn’t coddle him at all. Yes she had a plan and knew what she wanted to do in life. Blake coming into her life didn’t change much except for smokin hot sex she was having with him. These two I loved a lot! I would have rather had the story just these two and none of the other characters expect Knox and Ophelia. Here’s why I’m probably in the minority… I hated Gabby and how she treated everyone. She acted like she and Brandon were better then everybody else. She babies the crap out of Brandon and has him so whipped it isn’t even funny. He can’t even talk to his friend unless she says something first. She wasn’t nice in this book at all. It was so bad that it completely threw me off this book. I did love how Blake wasn’t afraid of throwing the truth in her face. I mean I’m glad they were able to push Blake to get help but I felt like it was to do to make her feel even more like a queen. The one thing I will say that wasn’t needed was all the backstory in the book. If you’ve read the other books, then you already know the info that was in this book. I still love you Nicole.
What-The-H-E-Double-Elle (see what I did there?!) did I just read??? I think Ms. Dykes sprinkled some magic dust on this ebook that made it’s way into my heart….because she actually MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH Blake Richardson, and I can’t believe it!!!! He is SUCH a selfish, UN-likeable character from the start (I REALLY didn’t like him….AT ALL!!!!) but somehow, by the end of this AMAZING, off-the-charts STEAMY, sometimes heartbreaking read, I ended up falling head-over-heels in love with Blake! THAT’S some powerful magic dust, I’ll tell ya!
I had NO problem falling under Elle’s spell, however! She is the type of heroine I LOVE. She’s feisty, strong, knows EXACTLY what she wants and where she’s going, is determined to get to where she wants to be….and then Blake comes along and throws a huge monkey-wrench into her whole life plan, breaking her along the way!
All I’m gonna say is, this book had me invested 1,000% from the first paragraph to the last! It’s a MUST READ standalone that I HIGHLY recommend!
God I love a bad boy. I love to hate Blake, have since we met him in Brandon and Gabby’s story. But Elle is not willing to let this one pull the wool over her eyes. Nope, she goes into the fire with one thing in mind, get some of that bad and walk away. But neither one is ready for what happens when they stop walking away. This story broke me more than once but I could not stop reading!!!
Blake and Elle
Blake stumbled himself to Brandon and Gabys house- claiming he is bored and needed a change of scenery.
Elle is working hard to get through college and have her dream job. She also is adjusting to living alone after Gaby moved out.
Blake and Elle are complete opposites , yet they fit together perfectly. I love how they have this attraction, this deep need for each other. Of course I really wanted to knock the crap out of Blake a few times. I really loved how the “family” stepped in when needed. Absolute fantastic read! You will love reading Blake and Elles story!
“I’ve been dead inside for so long I didn’t know I was a walking zombie until Elle”
“Books truly are better than boys. Real boys leave.”
Fixation ….Perfect title to this amazing story. What I loved most about this book is you get to see the characters grow. Find themselves and realize how much of their-selves affect others. Sometimes negatively, sometimes positively and sometimes just sexual heat and tension. Nicole Dykes is fabulous at writing characters that grow. Blake is an attractive bad boy … selfish, self destructive, sexy, and floundering because he has no plans but to live off his trust fund. Elle is intrinsically motivated to make all her plans and dreams come true. She is driven to continue her last few months of college and then begin her Masters degree. Blake and Elle met before through mutual friends and Elle was not impressed. They of course have an intense sexual attraction may I add very well written with not a lot of imagination. Through their “no label” relationship, of course things happen which creates angst, anger, and devastation on both sides but an opportunity to self grow. I dont want to give any spoilers away. This book has all the feels and more. I strongly recommend this book. It is a stand alone but does have characters revisit from other series which I love. If you have not read Nicole Dykes work now is the time.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. I was so excited for Blake’s story. I just can’t get enough of these Monroe’s and Adamson’s.
Elle likes everything to go according to her plan. Her life is laid out for her and she plans on meeting every goal.So when Blake shows up and throws her plan off the rails she doesn’t know how to handle him.
Blake is nothing but a good time. He party’s hard mixing drugs and alcohol. He doesn’t make any plans and hates having any kind of plan. So why is he so drawn to Elle.
This book does have addiction and mental health issues in it but it also shows that you can over come anything as long as you have a good support system.
This story is about Blake and Elle..
Together they are explosive, a part they just go through life on autopilot. Elle fills her schedule to the max so that she is always doing something. Blake fills his with not caring about a thing in the world and partying.
They are so different. And they say opposites attract will that be true for Blake and Elle or will they explode?

Here we go again …
I swear to god Nicole’s books need to come with a warning!!
*Don’t expect to function after you finish this book*
Or maybe something like
*hey I’m nicole , I’m going to rip your heart apart whilst you read my book , but don’t worry I’ll eventually put you back together again….. MAYBE!!*
I can’t recommend nicole enough when people ask me for an author that’s a must read….
She just sucks you in with every character…
I’ve been waiting for Blake’s story what seems like forever and it was everything I needed,
An addict needing his redemption from the only girl he’s ever cared about….
I loved Blake and Ellie together , they complete each other..
Loved every second
Amazing as always nicole but I’ll be honest , I didn’t wanna see your face for a couple of days after I finished
We’re good though now
Until the next book
A solid 4.5. Wow another great read from Nicole. Elle is smart, sassy and in no way looking for a forever guy. Until a super hot a hole walks into her life, one with a connection to her very best friend.
Blake has issues, not that he sees it that way. He likes to party but after a while that might not be enough. Enter a gorgeous girl he can’t get enough of.
Friends are against it and at times it seems so is the universe but with a lot of effort put forth by both they realise they just might be…meant to be.
The only reason it’s not a 5* is that they have both avoided relationships so, although in their early 20s they were a bit immature at times in how they dealt with things due to it being their first real relationship.
Ohhh… How I loved this book!!!
Nicole Dykes really hit all my emotions with this story. She does such a beautiful job writing Blake and Elle. I loved that Blake’s addiction and support was so detailed, and Elle’s focus and determination was amazing.
What I took from this book is there’s always something deeper going on with someone, you just have to decide if you care enough to look.
Elle is a few months shy of graduating college when Blake walks into her life. Sexy as sin with unlimited funds make him hard to resist. She’s so used to work for everything she gets, so naturally she instantly dislikes him.
Blake finds himself wanting to slowdown for a bit, while he doesn’t believe he has a addiction problem, he’s still looking for a change of pace. Then he meets Elle and suddenly life just got real.
This story has all the good stuff it’s angsty, steamy, and inspiring all at the same time. Definitely a 5 star read!!
Fixation: an obsessive interest in or feeling about someone or something. The action of making something firm or stable. Two different meanings. Two, that both apply to this story.
Such a true story. This was the first thought that came to mind while I was reading it. Actually a few things came to mind. I’m so use to books with big bombastic issue that drive the story for the reader. When in actuality it’s not always the case. Everyone has their own triggers that make them act and do what they do in life. Fixation is the perfect title for this story. There are so many ways we become fixated on things. You can become fixated on people, on plans, on not doing something as well as doing something. It doesn’t always have to make sense. You may not know the reason yourself. However, that being said there is always a reason why we act or become so fixated on this type of behavior. It’s not always a bad thing but there are times you need to come to terms with it. If not it could cost you. This is the case with both of these characters.
Blake, the gorgeous, rich kid, going through life on what he thinks are his own terms. He doesn’t care what people think of him. He seems like a user in so many ways.
Elle, pretty, smart, driven to succeed. She doesn’t have time for a life outside her goals. Elle has plans she needs to stick to and doesn’t want to deviate from them.
Well life has other plans for these two individuals and for reasons I won’t go into because I don’t do spoilers we get a very true story.
Along the way we also get to meet up with some of our favorite characters from previous books, which is always a good thing. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the other books. This is a standalone. Once you read this particular book I can imagine you’ll want to read the other books as well. Although I said it’s a relatable story you will get everything you’re looking for; smiles, angst, tenderness, snark, heat and hope!
I really enjoyed this story it touched me on a very relatable level. I think everyone becomes fixated at times. It can be anything; a movie, a book, a goal, a person and idea. Like I said t’s not always a bad thing. If it weren’t for fixations we wouldn’t have lightbulbs, Disney and every other inventions or theories. Just like a coin there’s two sides. Sometimes we need a balance an adjustment. As you can tell by this review I became fixated on this story.
There’s a reason for that…it’s so good!
This is Nicole Dykes best and hottest work by far. Her writing har grown so much since I started reading her books and I am always excited for what her next book will bring.
Fixation was simply brilliant. I really connected with Elle (I mean who doesn’t love book boyfriends) and as much as I disliked Blake in the beginning, I know I fell so hard for him by the end. This always happens with a Nicole book boyfriend. I want to dislike him from beginning to end but its impossible!
One particular scene in this book will be stuck in my memory forever and for those that have read, you’ll know the one I’m on about. For those that are still to read, what are you waiting for?! And enjoy
I fell Fixation shows all the reasons that Nicole Dykes remains one of my all time favourite authors
This book has all the emotions of a perfect/imperfect relationship between blake and elle. I love how determined Elle was about her plan for life and wanted to stick to it, until blake. Blake made me hate him so much from the beginning. He was cocky, but at the same time made you love him. Him and elle are definitely polar opposites but are couple goals! Nicole dykes wrote another 5 star read that I didn’t want to end.
****Spoilers*****
This book does touch on addictions and is sometimes hard to read if you have been around it, but nicole dykes makes it easy to read about. She makes understand what goes through the mind of someone who parties a lot and struggles with the addiction.
Blake & Elle! Yes! Nicole knows how to write a romance! And a romance with tough love at that! Absolutely fantastic read.
