Whatever you thought you knew about Five and Rory…think again.
Did they love each other, oh yeah, that’s a given, with a love so true it puts every other romance I’ve ever read to shame, but in true J.A. Huss fashion, expect the unexpected.
Whatever it is you thought you had figured out, you didn’t.
Five is brilliant, Rory is a fighter. I was blind-sided more than once with the turn of events.
I absolutely love these characters.
Die hard Huss fans have been patiently, (or not so) waiting for Five’s story and she delivered, we got answers to burning questions and a masterful set up for the Mister series.
I don’t know. I enjoyed the story and the romance.
I am still not quite certain WHY he just cut off talks with his soul mate, though. He never explained to his girl well, either. It just seemed like he put his girl second to everything else. Even though that was explained later, it just wasn’t… there in the emotions, I guess. It’s like I was a bit disappointed in that part of it.
I can’t wait to finish Five’s story, though. I’m hoping the ending is as good as I hope it is!
Five (Mister 0.5) is the love story to end all love stories! Five Aston and Rory Shrike have loved each other nearly all their lives. Then Five left, and a heartbroken Rory moved on. Six years later he’s back and she wants answers.
Five is the prequel to the brilliant Mister series and gives us the enigmatic Five’s story. It’s thrilling, intriguing, and deadly, with twists and turns aplenty. You won’t be disappointed!
I have been a fan of JA Huss since Tragic came out 4 years ago. I have been involved with this story and these characters for so long that they are real to me. Opening this book and reading about Fort Collins was like walking up my parents porch on Christmas. Just like coming home. Five and Rory have an epic love story. They live for each other. They would kill for each other. They would die for each other. I can’t wait for Mr. And Mrs. to read the epic conclusion. We waited years for this one. But it was perfect.
Ok, this is the JA Huss book we’ve been waiting for what seems like a lifetime for, the Knight and his Princess, Rutherford Aston the Fifth (Five) and Rory Shrike!! Once started I couldn’t stop, I couldn’t put it down, and it was epically beautiful!!
We get to experience this fate deemed love story going back to when they were young, growing up together, playing, learning, experiencing it through them, from the first day at school to the last day when he left. It was nostalgic and ultra emotional, like coming home.
We then see it from the present, to what’s happening now, as the sins of the father eventually catch up with them. Fate didn’t believe in making things easy for them. They may have had the best parents in the world, but some things you just can’t get away from. But you also can’t run from destiny, and that’s what they were, destined to be together, yin and yang, soul mates, but nothing good is ever easy, it has to be fought for.
A fabulous story, complex and intriguing, just as you’ve solved one puzzle another one comes and takes its place. Its a fabulous and unique world that Julie has created, and I have loved every minute of it in all of these books!!
Rory is such a strong, bad ass character, knowing and fighting for what she wanted and believed in, Five’s love. It was a long and difficult road, but she never gave up on him.
Five. Well what can I say. I loved him. Such a strong man, intelligent, hot, dangerous – yet everything he did, he did for his Princess. He never shied away from his feelings, always telling her exactly how he felt.
A beautifully perfect romance, full of of the typical JA Huss twists and turns, that will leave you breathless and wanting more as the pages turn quicker. So very, very emotional – I have loved every minute of their journey, reading about all the others in the families just added to the emotion as you get to say hello again to your favourite JA Huss characters along the way. Perfect.
5 beautiful shining Shrike Stars!!
Wow this book streamed like a movie. It was such a bittersweet ending for Five and Rory.
#FuckingFive
Can I leave that as my review? I mean, come on, it’s FIVE!
Argh! Ok, Ok! I will do better
I have waited for what seems like Forever for Five and Rory and the wait was so worth it.
This story pulls and pushes you in so many directions, you are left a little whiplashed, but you get used to that with Julies work.
Being the son of Ford (fucking Ford – lovey eyes) and the daughter of Spencer (drooly face), these two are soulmates, they have been destined to be together from the start. But Five had to leave Rory behind, cutting all ties and leaving the Shrike Princess beyond heartbroken.
Fast forward 6 years and Rory’s heart still belongs to Five, but she has moved on with her life when she gets a call from her brother Oli, that turns her entire world upside down. Five is back.
Five’s life hasn’t been all parties and girls like Rory has conjured up in her head. Being a genius hacker like his equally phenomenally gifted father (sigh, Ford) comes with a lot of risks.
Gah!! Ok, pause! I cant continue. There are too many spoilers that are threatening to leak out!
This is a super sweet, fast-paced, suspenseful read that ends far too soon for my likings. But hey, there is more to come.
Five is the start of The Mister series and Can be read as a standalone, and even though this one gives you a lot of background on Five and Rory, I seriously encourage you to start from the start, with Tragic where you can learn, fully understand and appreciate this little world that Julie has created <3
Five knew Rory was his soulmate from the time they were toddlers. She was his princess and he, her Prince Charming. Five is also, most definitely, his father’s son. Extraordinarily intelligent, Five finally must leave Rory at the age of 15 to attend Oxford. Although he promises, Rory does not hear from him for six years. A text and a plane ticket set off a string of events that are both intriguing and dangerous. Five loves Rory but must walk away because his life is on a different path. The forces that nearly brought down Ronin, Ford, Spencer and their wives are still at play and continue to create chaos in all their lives.
I have been a long time fan. I am Team Ronin, Spencer and James all the way. I’m not a huge Ford fan like pretty much everyone else. I like Ford and his story, but I love me some of the other 3 more. So now that we finally got Five’s story, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I love how Rory and Five love each other. They had so many sweet moments together. I guess I was just meh on the rest of it. I liked finding out more of what was going on and filling in some gaps. But whatever, I don’t care what this author writes, I’m gonna buy it and read it no matter what. This is one helluva world she created. I can’t get enough!
FINALLY!!!!! OMG….. it felt good to read Five and Rory’s story. Fucking Five will make you swoon… he is hot as hell, scary as f*@k, a prince in his own right and the one and only for Rory. Rory is definitely a chip off the Bombshell for sure…. she had me laughing, crying and cheering her on because she doesn’t take anyone’s crap and she absolutely gave them hell in this book. The twists and turns will have you on the edge of your seat and flipping through the pages so quick that you don’t realize your at the end until you see those two little words. So worth the read; as is, with any J.A. Huss book!
“I’m officially on the train to Crazytown.” – Rory Shrike
Was there any doubt in your mind that Princess Rory and “Effing Five” were fated to be lovers? Serious loves? Partners…for life? The reader of “Five” will begin to doubt from the beginning the certainty of the “no doubt” of the last question from the beginning of the book until the very end.
What a fantastical ride upon which the reader is taken in this story!…And therein lies both the fascination of and frustration at the strain of credulity this fantasy of a ride takes the reader.
From past books in the timeline where Five appears, we know he is no ordinary guy. We know his pedigree to be son of Ford and grandson of the boss of one of China’s organized crime Triads.
Five, himself, was such an unusual and unusually bright boy whose one constant was that he loved and was fated to be forever with his “Princess”. But…he’s been away at Oxford for six years leaving Rory alone and pinning for him. She just about lost hope at Five ever returning to her.
What is the reason and how could Five just abandon the love of his life? The answer to this question boggles the mind…and leaves a few loose ends. Not to mention…the lengths Rory goes to resolve the predicament she is in possibly with Five or for Five. The resolution happens at Princeton no less.
Ms. Huss is genius level creative. Her writing is intricate in plot construction. She is a master with words. The cherry on top is her moving beautiful erotic writing.
Yet, as a reader I was left a bit wanting. The fabric of the story seemed a trifle unraveled…rushed. I am still uncertain if it is my fault in that I did not read close enough or perhaps because of reading past books of this series, I put so such expectation in the possibilities this author had in writing about this unique character, Five. Could it be I was disappointed in him and blaming it on the writer who imagined him? As a reader, I was left with so many questions and a little sad.
Definitely a 5 star read!!!
