Every perfect rom-com has a twist that leads the heroine to her happily ever after.
Me? Somehow, in any room full of Prince Charmings, I always manage to find the one frog.
So this time, I’ve found my own twist. Four of my friends will each set me up. Four first dates. Four chances at my own happily-ever-after.
My brother’s best friend even offered to watch my baby while I’m out finding true … offered to watch my baby while I’m out finding true love.
Only Maddox has seriously grown up since I saw him last. The guy next door now looks more like the guy on a magazine cover. He’s inked and sexy. Muscular. Utterly irresistible. And… big. Oh, and did I mention he’s now my roommate?
Surely having a brother’s-friend-with-benefits won’t hurt my search for Mr. Right.
Especially if he’s my fifth first date…

Savannah and Maddox made for a great story in Five First Dates by Erin McCarthy.
I really related with Savannah when it comes to her bad taste in men and feeling like she will be stuck single forever.
Of course, all it takes is one man willing to take a chance at changing her mind. Maddox was such a fun hero in this story, and found him someone I’d like to know in real life.
Erin writes fun, flirty, and addictive stories, and this one was no exception. Keep em coming!
Erin McCarthy is a relatively new author to me and I’m really struggling to understand why I have read more of her books, well that’s about to change because after reading Five First Dates I need to play catch up with her previous works as soon as time permits.
Maddox is a man on a mission for over 10 years he has wanted and needed his best friends older sister but Savannah has only ever seen him as her baby brothers nerdy friend….. but Maddox has done a lot of growing since she last saw him and when he arrives to help her with her new baby while working on a local reality show she can’t believe her eyes. The nerd has gone and been replaced by a hunky hot muscled up stud who still wants her but will she be brave enough to cross the line and take a leap of fate or will Maddox always be her brothers best friend who really should be off limits……
This is a fun entertaining read that ticked all my boxes, I laughed, I swooned and smiled a lot throughout this story. I was captivated from the first page and there was no putting down until I had read the final line and I was left so excited for the next book.
Wow! This book was amazing! I truly adored every second of this single mom, brothers best friend Romance. I fell in love with both Savannah and Maddox from the very beginning. The single mom looking for forever and the buff tattooed brother’s best friend chasing his dreams of making his teenage fantasy a reality. These two are perfect for one other. Their journey makes for a great read with the right amount of comedy, romance and drama. This is an absolute must read!
I loved five first dates. I definitely think there needs to be a sequel to it. Maybe find a woman for Steve so he can but out his sister’s life although i love the over protective annoying brother thing.

Absolutely adorable!
I loved this friends-to-lovers, but wait, he’s also her live-in manny 😉 romance! Maddox and Savannah are an absolutely wonderful couple–I loved watching him turn his teenaged crush into the real thing, and even though her learning to trust herself with relationships was a longer, more painful road, the end result made it all worth it in the end.
Another book with a hero who’s a child whisperer (see Liar, Liar, Hearts on Fire )–I could definitely get used to this… 😀
I hate to be a stickler, but I do have two teensy little issues with this book. One–that guy on the cover, though tatted, definitely doesn’t have the “built” arms that Maddox is supposed to have. Those arms look a lot more like teenage Maddy would have looked, minus the tats. Two–technically there were only FOUR first dates, for reasons I’m not going to explain (because you need to read it yourself!). I’m fine with the title staying the same–it was supposed to be five dates–but Mad and Savannah call him the fifth date at the end, which just isn’t accurate. Okay, so maybe I’m actually embracing my stickler status. Deal with it. 😉
Long story short–I loved this book! It’s another example of OMG, I need to get to the end of this book, these two MUST have their HEA ASAP! impossibly paired up with Yikes, I don’t want this book to end, how can I slow it down? Trust me, the struggle is real!
Why has it been so long since I’ve picked up an Erin McCarthy book? I have no idea–but now that I know that Grant and Leah have a book already ( Weekend Wife ), you’d better believe it’s been added to my TBR! Now how about Ilsa, Dakota, and Felicia? 🙂
Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Five First Dates is adorable, sexy and sweet! Plus, it has one of my absolute favorite tropes – a single parent. Maddox and Savannah intrigued me and they also constantly made me smile. This book has wonderful characters and interesting dates that keep you invested in the story. You need to read this book for the baby, Savannah’s brother, and the sexy man behind the tattoos alone. This is my first book by Erin, but it definitely won’t be my last!
Tracey, Life Reads With Friends
Life is all about the opportunity. Maddox has been in love with his best friend Steve’s sister Savannah since he was a kid which meant that she was hands off. Fast forward a few years and Maddox is moving to the city for a new job and winds up living with Savannah to help her take care of her baby. The more time Maddox is around her, the more his feelings grow. Savannah has not had the best track record when it comes to choosing and dating men so she decides to challenge her friends to pick and choose her next four dates. Maddox wants in on the action so he offers to choose her fifth date. What follows is an effervescent tale of love reminiscent of that first time when you had butterflies in your stomach and wondering if the other person feels the same. Ms. McCarthy’s writing style is like a breath of fresh air bringing happiness when it is most needed. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.
I enjoyed this story, I love single parents tropes and I like the fast paced and how the story flowed!
I totally enjoyed Savannah and Maddox’s story in Five First Dates: A Brother’s Best Friend
by Erin McCarthy. Savannah is a single mom, only because she tends to pick the wrong guys. This time she is letting four of her friends set her up on dates with guys they believe will be her Mr. Right. Four chances to finally get her fantasy happily ever after. Wyatt, Savannah’s brother’s best friend, needed a place to stay while in New York City filming a pilot for a reality show; is sleeping on her couch. He has grown up, no longer the nerdy, skinny, kid he once was. He’s become sexy, muscular, inked, and irresistible; willing to watch her baby while she had her four first dates. The dates her friends set up just weren’t much better than what Savannah would find. The first guy was a rich jerk. The second had a miscommunication on what was needed. The third could have worked out and been good for her if Savannah hadn’t already started a friends-with-benefits relationship with Wyatt. Her fourth friend didn’t even try to find a date for Savannah. Best date of all, was the fifth first date; with Wyatt.
Ms. McCarthy wrote a wonderful, funny and sexy story that should not be missed. She provided a tale full of sexual chemistry, humor, and endearing characters giving Savannah and Wyatt a happy ever after future together. I highly recommend Five First Dates to other readers.

This book was so easy to read. I read it so fast! The author’s hero was, of course, incredibly sexy and a skilled lover. He looked like a “bad boy,” but was actually an incredibly nice guy. He sounded like my dream come true. He was a young man who was very mature, amazing with babies, and more than willing to settle down with the woman he had been in love with since he was a teenager. The heroine was confused about what she really wanted and had difficulty seeing past superficial details and focusing on the qualities in the hero that were exactly what she wanted in her life. Had to get past the fact that he was her little brother’s best friend who she had known since he was a little kid. I loved that Erin made that twist. It was as a nice change from these stories always being about the best friend’s little sister. The ending was predictable, of course, we know that the two main characters find their way to each other by the end. The journey to that happy ending was enjoyable to read and ERin McCarthy’s books are always well written with three dimensional characters. The chemistry between these characters was fantastic and their intimate moments were super steamy, just like you can expect from this author. This book is going to be added to the long list of Erin’s books that I am so glad I got the opportunity to read and to share my thoughts with others. I highly recommend grabbing this book and spending some enjoyable hours with a front row seat to Savannah and Maddox’s love story.

When the first line in a book is,
“I should have worn a bra.”
you know you’re in for a treat. Five First Dates was my second book by Erin McCarthy and I absolutely loved it, especially because this book follows the group of friends we were introduced to in Leah and Grant’s story, “The Weekend Wife.”
Savannah is a single-mother to her six-month old son Sully. Despite having bad luck in relationships she continues to have hope of one day finding her true love. She dreams to be whisked away by her Prince in Suit and Tie wearing prince of wall street to a white picket fence house in Connecticut, or so she thought. What happens when she opens her door to find her younger brother’s, nerd turned sexy, hot as hell tattooed best friend?
Maddox is extremely mature for his age. He doesn’t like playing games and he has always known what he wanted (or who he wanted). Raised most of his life by a single mother himself, Maddox or “Mad” is very respectful of women. He puts their needs above his own and he is caring and wonderful with kids. He was definitely not what Savannah was expecting.
Now, living together “temporarily” in order to help one another, Savannah finds herself having some very lustful thoughts about Maddox, but is this simply because that aspect of her life had been lacking for some time now? In an effort to shake off those thoughts and not trusting her own judgment, Savannah summons her best friends to set her up on a series of first dates.
This is one of those books that had it all – brothers best friend, single-mother, friends to lovers, older woman/younger man. I DEVOURED it in one sitting. It was filled with a lot of laugh out loud and swoon worthy tender moments. Savannah and her group of friends + Jenna are exactly the team of power house diverse ladies I need on my side. They are hilarious, caring and loyal. I hope Erin McCarthy gives us more of these characters in future stories.
To sum it all up and in the wise words spoken by Jenna, “What Would Reynolds Do?”
I voluntary read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Savannah is a new working single mom. Her brother’s best friend needs a place to stay for a short time and Savannah needs a nanny so she can try dating again. She always picks the wrong guy including baby daddy so she let’s her friends set her up with guys they think are perfect for her. Two things happen. Maddox is all grown up and he wants to pick out a date for her, too. What could possibly go wrong? Sure Maddox is hot enough to set off the smoke detectors and Savannah is feeling the heat. A lot of heat. But this is Maddox. He’s like family. Too bad Maddox has a different opinion. Maddox is adorable and pretty swoony. If you read the book you will see just how swoony he can be. Great read for some fun and romance. Go ahead. Give it a read.
Savannah answers the door with no bra on and finds a gorgeous tatted man who is her brother’s best friend. Maddox needs a place to stay and she needs the help with her baby. They are set to help each other except the chemistry between them is off the charts but she is not going there. Her four girlfriends have offered to each find her a date and he offers to find the fifth. Everything is going well until he needs an angle for his show and tells them he has a girlfriend with a baby. When everyone knows, it becomes more real and more of a problem for her family. Just like any good rom com movie it has one person leaving, a rain storm and a reunion in the subway. A fun read with some hot scenes. Recommended! I received an Arc for an honest review.

In the 15 years I have been reading Erin McCarthy she has never let me down and she continues on that streak. The formula, one single new mom and add the spice of your childhood nerdy friend turned god (with a harboring childhood crush) and you have the makings of a Ryan Reynolds romantic comedy.. A truly romantic, story that had me on my toes at every corner..

Another one-click from Erin McCarthy! A fun read that you won’t be able to stop yourself from finishing in one sitting.
Single, exhausted, new mom, Savannah, just needs a little help with the baby . . . or so she thinks. Help arrives in the form of gorgeous, inked up, sexy-on-a-stick, Maddox, her brother’s best friend. He’s looking for a place to stay while filming a new reality show, Rebel Ink. Savannah’s looking for someone to watch the baby a few hours a day. Perfect, right?? What could possibly go wrong?? How about Maddox has had a crush on her since he was a teen and plans to use this time to finally make his move. And Savannah’s trying to keep him safely in the friend-zone. But not having had a date—let alone sex—since before her six-month-old son, Sully, was born her ovaries nearly left her body to get at Maddox the second she opened the door. Yeah, what could go wrong??
Though this is absolutely a standalone novel, you will see quite a few familiar faces from Erin’s previous novel, Weekend Wife. Which I also recommend. So if you are looking for something fun to occupy your social-distancing you can’t go wrong with Five First Dates or anything written by Erin McCarthy!
I’ve not read alot by this author but I will definitely look for more books she’s written! Savannah is a single mom of a 6 month old with a baby daddy that wants nothing to do with her or the baby. She’s allowed to work from home but juggling motherhood and work is a challenge. So when her brother’s best friend is coming to town to be in a reality show and needs a place to stay she offers her couch. He also agrees to help with the baby so she can work or get a break. What she doesn’t realize is Maddox has had a crush on her for years and plans to use this time to get her to see him as more than her little brother’s friend. What a coincidence that she’s decided she needs to get back into the dating scene but enlists the help of her friends to set her up on dates because she has not been known for her great taste in guys! Such a fun read and escape especially during this pandemic stay at home situation. I received an ARC through Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Maddox is… sigh. He’s flirty, fit and one filthy talker who is just what single mom Savannah needs in her life. Who cares if Maddox is her little brother’s best friend? Well, Savannah cares but what is she to do? Maddox is helping her as a part-time Manny while he’s in town filming a reality show.
Savannah is SHOCKED when she opens her door to Maddy. The cute best friend of her little brother, whom she hasn’t seen in 5 years. And boy has those 5 years been good to him! Filled out and no longer the scrawny teen she remembered, Maddox is causing all kinds of feels for Savannah. She’s having an identity crisis – being a newly single mom who spends most of her time in sweats with milk stains all over her.
The only thing is there is this magnetic connection between the two that Savannah thinks is a little too dangerous and so she convinces her friends to each set her up on a first date, hoping to find Mr. Right and pulling her away from her attraction to Maddox.
This was a sweet story with a big bit of steam thrown in. I love Maddox from the start and Savannah was a little all over the place but what new mom isn’t. It was a fun story and I loved the chemistry between the two of them and of course baby Sully! Maddox with Sully made my heart melt! Great read.
A fun, charming story that will make you smile.
Five First Dates by Erin McCarthy, is a standalone romantic comedy, it does have characters from Weekend Wife, but it’s not necessary to have read that book first, although it does add a level of fun you won’t have if you don’t.
Maddox has known Savannah most of his life and he had a huge crush on her during his high school years. Savannah was totally unaware of Maddox’s feelings and she hasn’t seen the nerdy best friend of her younger brother since he was eighteen.
Five years later, Savannah is in a pickle. She’s a single mom in need of some help and Maddox needs a place to stay. It should be easy. Sav had a soft spot for her brother’s bestie, he was kind of her friend too, while she lived at home, so it should be simple to slip back into that friendship.
She is taken aback by the tatted up gorgeous hunk of a man who knocks on her apartment door.
She hasn’t been with a guy since her ex dumped her when she told him she was pregnant and her baby son, Sully is now six months old. Some might say it was just her hormones going a little crazy. But, Savannah finds it all too easy to fall for Maddox.
But, it wasn’t just lust on either side. Maddox has had deep feelings for Savannah from the beginning and it only got stronger the longer they spent together. He might come across as a tough guy, but he’s all heart and has some swoon-worthy moves.
They’re very little angst, but plenty of heat and chemistry that will satisfy your craving for a sweet, sexy story.
Maddox has had a crush on his best friends sister for years. As a teenager he wasn’t ready to make a move, as a man he’s more than ready to take his chance. Savannah is a single mum and has offered to let Maddox stay at her place for a while never expecting that the gangly teen from years ago had grown up to be so hot. Jeez this guy is hot! He’s hot and sexy, inked up, gorgeous, I can definitely see his appeal. And when he meets Susannah’s baby….I was swooning all over the place. I want a Maddox! He’s the perfect balance of sweet and sexy.
The chemistry and tension between these two just about killed me. I needed them to just get together already! But Susannah has a different idea and decides to let her friends set her up on some dates to try and shake the attraction she’s having toward her brothers best friend. Maddox isn’t giving in though and sets out to win his girl.
Go buy this book. Make a cup of coffee, get comfy and lose yourself in this fun, sexy read for a few hours. Highly recommend this Five First Dates.
McCarthy brings light to an often times dreary day. Her mysteries are eccentric, her characters are eclectic and her sense of humor is a welcome breath of fresh air. Five First Dates is a perfectly, imperfect temptation that proves itself irresistible on multiple levels. Chase away your blues and open your heart to an addictive kind of fun.
