Now a major motion picture starring Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson! Goodreads Choice Winner, Best Young Adult Fiction of 2019 In this #1 New York Times bestselling novel that’s perfect for fans of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, two teens fall in love with just one minor complication—they can’t get within a few feet of each other without risking their lives. Can you love someone you … without risking their lives.
Can you love someone you can never touch?
Stella Grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions.
The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.
Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment.
What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

This book is a real treasure. The movie is excellent also.
Many years back, in the ’80s in fact, my grandmother gave me “Alex: The Life of a Child” by Frank Deford, which first introduced me to Cystic Fibrosis and how utterly heartbreaking this disease could be. I’ve read it multiple times in my life and it never fails to break my heart. This one didn’t make me break down in tears and I’m glad for that. Through Stella, the book shows the way sufferers bond because of their long term stays in the hospital, the obstacles that come with living with CF, and the sheer amount of loneliness it can create. Overall, a very touching read.
i love the book and the movie
This book was so beautiful and well written it made me laugh it made me cry it made me want so much more
I loved the book a lot ore than the movie as it is very descriptive. The book is of a forbidden romance played by wonderful characters. Because the story is so real it definitely has you at the edge of your seat the whole time. The story is quiet tragic but I think what makes it so entertaining is that the author uses the love story and near deaths of the characters to keep people interested and you find yourself sitting there for 20 minutes and not wanting to stop reading because the books use of poetic devices really creates an amazing image of what is going on in the book . I would highly recommend the book if you are after a truthful, entertaining page-turner that you are guaranteed to get hooked on.
I honestly cried so much towards the end of the book and movie. It is by far the best book I’ve ever read. I definitely recommend it for those who love teen romance books or just romance books in general.
This book certainly reminds me of “The Fault in Our Stars”, but here it is cystic fibrosis, not cancer, that’s the culprit.
Stella and Will fall in love almost instantly, even though they have to stay six feet apart (yes, SIX feet, not five; the title will get its explanation later) due to the risk of infections. It’s a bit unrealistic to me (the insta love), but hey, who knows how long they will live?!
Besides the life-threathening situation these kids are in, Lippincott also makes the characters discuss other hard subjects, such as the loss of a sibling and how you can live, not just survive. Still, the reading does not feel “heavy”, although it’s a bit heartbreaking at times. If you liked John Green’s book you will probably like this one too.
Such a beautiful and heart-wrenching novel while also educating readers on cystic fibrosis. This book made smile at the way these kids see the world when death could come at any moment. All they want to do is live and their sickness threatens that and keeps them apart. I really loved these characters and everything they were going through. It broke my heart. I will never regret or forget Will and Stella’s story.
Great read! I laughed and cried while reading this book. This book will definitely bring out emotions in you.

so nice
It’s a good book to read, nice and beautiful. it is Interesting book
i think if you like this you should read the fault in our satrs it is a great book !The Fault in Our Stars
We cannot change our life circumstances, all we can do is change how we handle the circumstances and make the most out of life. For Will and Stella, so much of their lives have been decided for them, due to them both having cystic fibrosis. Their medication regimes are laid out for them and they have very little control over the treatments. If they want to live, they have to do the treatments and take the medications.
Stella is a stickler for the rules and treatment plans laid out for her. Grieving the loss of her sister and her parent’s divorce. Stella’s main goal in life is to stay alive and be there for her parents.
Will is angry and frustrated over his life circumstances and rebels when it comes to his CF.
On paper, Will and Stella are complete opposites who frustrate each other to no end, but as they begin to let down their guards and get to know one another, a special and beautiful bond forms between the two of them, that not even CF is going to be able to demolish.
Five Feet Apart is about overcoming the odds and finding the courage and strength to fall in love and not let your circumstances in life hold you back.
I felt every emotion while reading this book and won’t ever forget Will and Stella’s journey. It was heartfelt and emotional and has left a lasting impression on my heart.
It was so heartfelt and romantic but with a (kinda) small twist. Stella Grant is a CF patient and has been since she was six. When she meets Will I just knew this would form into something hopelessly beautiful. They have to stay six feet apart at all times but their love grows closer. I would read and reread this anytime!
I loved this book so much it really was a tear-jerker, but over all it was a great book!
This book was pretty good. I liked the main character the plot and most the side characters. This book was sad and fun at the same time. I think that all of it was pretty good, although I must say the ending was a little disappointing (though I don’t know what I was expecting) 😉
I absolutely loved Stella, Will, and Poe!!! This heart wrenching story of impossible to have love, friends, and family was impossible to put down! A MUST READ!!!
This is a great book, Sad, Romantic. It is a sad but Amazing book to read very interesting and just a book to read.
Adored this book! Yes, it is somewhat of a tear jerker yet it is also a book that is about hope, living life to the fullest no matter how long or short that life may be, the art of letting go of control, living life on your own terms, and that we are more than a diagnosis(know this only too well myself though do not have cystic fibrosis)! Think if you have chronic pain(especially if that was something you were born with or struck you in your youth) you will enjoy this book all the more so. It may be Young Adult fiction yet methinks this book is for all ages! So easy to read plus could not put it down!! Excellent plus original work of fiction!!
its sad and I love it
