Marshals: Book Two Deputy US Marshals Miro Jones and Ian Doyle are now partners on and off the job: Miro’s calm professionalism provides an ideal balance to Ian’s passion and quick temper. In a job where one misstep can be the difference between life and death, trust means everything. But every relationship has growing pains, and sometimes Miro stews about where he stands with his fiery lover. … with his fiery lover. Could the heartstrings that so recently tied them together be in danger of unraveling?
Those new bonds are constantly challenged by family intrusions, well-intentioned friends, their personal insecurities, and their dangerous careers–including a trial by fire when an old case of Miro’s comes back to haunt them. It might just be enough to make Ian rethink his decision to let himself be tied down, and Miro can only hope the links they’ve forged will be strong enough to hold.

Marshals series is shaping up to be a fun read. I am now able to look past similarities in personalities and see the distinctive features of both Ian and Miro. I like Miro Jones a lot. His penchant for clothes and shoes, his light hearted manner and kindness coupled with empathy make him a perfect counterbalance to rude obnoxious barely tolerable Ian Doyle. I do not think that Sam Kage was ever that bad but I am biased here, folks. LOL
I enjoyed the relationship they were building, their dynamics both at home and at work as well as their interactions with their friends. I was able to like Ian through Miro’s eyes and feelings for him. A man so dearly loved can not be that bad for sure?! I made my peace with Ian in the end. He is how he is, yes, but his love and devotion for Miro makes him sort of alright.
I muddled through their heroics out in the field. They were fast paced but a bit too unbelievable to my taste. But it’s Mary Calmes, so it’s all forgiven. What I didn’t like or really get was Craig Hartley and his angle in this whole mess. I thought there was a certain status quo between Miro and Hartley due to Miro saving his life. Then some cannibalistic tendencies and strange obsession later, there is a lot going on between them. I tried to think in terms of Hannibal Lector and Clarice Starling references – but they didn’t fit. I wish more was explained about Hartley and what drove him to Miro. I feel like this whole issue was carefully skirted around and avoided. Do not get me wrong, I enjoyed reading the crazy that was Craig Hartley but I needed more to feel like this chapter is completely closed and done with. Still, this was a good story that I heartily enjoyed.
Am loving this series. Lots of emotions in this book and I feel so badly for Miro…you can just feel the ache in him to achieve his long sought after dream of love, stability and recognition. And there’s such great foreshadowing in that initial heartbreaking marriage conversation.
This book has a lot of tension in it so I was exhausted when I finished. It was so good I had to stay up practically all night to finish as I didn’t want to put it down! There’s emotional/relationship tension, there is job tension and there is suspense/terror tension. Plus, you just know the big crisis is coming but you don’t know when so I was on edge for quite a long time while reading!
The ending is fantastic…go Kage!!! And man are there some people in this book that I want to throat punch…HARD!! Not sure whether to hate Ian’s father or just the rest of his family but I was seething after that scene!
I can’t wait to jump into book three!
I love this series .
If it’s by Mary Calmes, it’s going to be a good read! Just like anything by Patricia Cornwell.
Okay, so first of all, I love Mary Calmes writing. I’ve been a fan since I first picked up the Change of Heart series. Her characters have depth, flaws, and vulnerabilities often left out of romance novels. This series (there are 3 books, I read all three in three days) is action packed. Their federal agents and have crimes to solve. But it is also very much about building a family and learning to love someone who doesn’t always do what you want them to do. It’s about compromise, love, friendship, and yes, crime. I truly love this series. I hope you do too.
