Fisher of Men (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 1)
by Phoebe Alexander
5 Stars
Fisher of Men by Phoebe Alexander is the first installment of the Eastern Shore Swingers series. This book is contemporary romance and touches on the subject of swinging couples. This story is about Leah Miller and Chris Sheldon a.k.a. Cap. Leah grew up in a small town to religious parents and she decided to spread her wings by attending Cornell University and study Hospitality Management. She is currently an assistant manager at The Pearl in Ocean City. While working at the hotel, she meets Cap, who is attending a private party. Cap is a charter fishing captain in Ocean City and also is part of an alternative lifestyle. She is very intrigued and attracted to Cap but she is not sure about his lifestyle due to her upbringing and beliefs. Will Cap and Leah find common ground or will their difference in opinions stop them from being in a relationship? You would have to read this story to find out! I enjoyed reading Cap and Leah’s story and how their relationship evolves around Leah’s beliefs and how she can work around it to open up to Cap and his alternative lifestyle. Cap is a very persuasive Alpha male that knows his way into a woman’s heart and panties. I recommend this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Fisher of Men (The Eastern Shore Swingers #1) by Phoebe Alexander was a hot, steamy read that was fun as hell to read.
Not my first read by this author or in this series. They read as stand-a-longe, so no worries about reading them out of order, which, I have been doing. What can I say, I don’t like to conform.. ahaha. just kidding, or am I.. okay this book got me all in a weird mood, and frankly, I got all these good feels going on, and I’m going to unleash them on you.
I have to say, to finally read the first book, was nice, because a series has to start somewhere. It’s always a treat to read about the start and how things came to be, and when you meet the characters in other books, reading their origin story makes it all the more fun and juicy. This book really sets the stage for the rest of this series and reading about Leah, and how much she changed, was something else.
Man oh man, this book is, wow. I mean, you need to go into this series with a open mind, but this book. Wow. I’m kicking myself for not reading it sooner. Oh why am I all up in arms about this book.. well my friends, I’m not going to tell you cause there is just so much that needs to be experance for the first time, that telling you anything will ruin that delightful experience. I will say that you will love the easy writing style, the smooth transition and the hot, steamy smut that will cure your toes and have you reaching for a cold drink.
Overall this book/series is a must read. It will tear you out of your comfort zone, much like Leah, and have you wanting more. This book gets my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval…. so common read it, you might just like it…
Happy Reading

Fisher of Men by Phoebe Alexander is not a sweet clean romance church going people. As of matter of fact, there is more to the title which is Eastern Shore Swingers Book 1. So for me it was a little shocking what I was reading but I did like the book. Phoebe Alexander put a lot of time and details in this story. The female character, Leah has been raised in a Christian home. The lifestyle of Cap is interesting as she has never been in a relationship with a “swinger) before. Leah is a strong female character and she is trying to be a “good little Christian girl” but she really wants to try the other lifestyle that Cap will take her into. Will Leah go with Cap or will she keep him at arm’s length as his roles and beliefs are different than his?
I have been reading this series out of order and I’m so glad to finally get to Leah and Cap’s story. First of all, I read a “warning” somewhere that said “This is NOT a Christian Romance” – I appreciate whoever wrote that because in the first few pages, that’s exactly what I thought I was going to be reading. (I had not read the warning before hand) There is a very strong religious “tone” in this story that, at times, had me scratching my head about where it was trying to lead me.
This is a story of conflicts. Where do one’s beliefs come from and how much influence does the religion of our childhood gel with the religion of our adulthood. An interesting premise. As we follow the story from beginning to end, we see the MC allow herself to be pulled in different directions depending on who she is talking to. “I hate feeling like I am a bad Christian or a hypocrite, you know?”.
I have a hard time with the characters. Initially I didn’t like Leah very much. There was just something about her that rubbed me the wrong way. She was a lovely people pleaser who always put others needs before her own. She has an immaturity about her that belies her age. For someone who is so “worldly” in the ways a business runs she sure was innocent about the world. “…swingers? It seemed like a mythical construct to her like Santa Claus or Bigfoot, instead of the real thing. hahahaha Cap is a strong, domineering man that I felt was a little too strong handed and almost whiny.
While this was not my favorite book of the series, I appreciate the tale the author weaves. Perhaps if I had read this story ANY other time than October of 2018, I would have had a completely different reaction to it. Which is why I’ve rated it the way I did. The author does a fantastic job of telling a story that has meaning, depth and weight to it while setting up the rest of the series. Nice job!!
Fisher of Men is the first book in the Eastern Shore Swingers series. It can be read as a standalone.
The first few chapters of the book seemed like they were taking forever to get through. The pace seemed slow and drawn out. BUT, when things start progressing with Leah and Cap, the story picked up and had me hooked. I had a marathon reading session and finished the book in a day.
One of the things that kept me interested is probably the fact that I can relate to the internal struggle, both regarding faith and the emotional aspect, that Leah goes through as she begins to unravel the structure she has been taught is the truth and proper way of living. It is emotionally strenuous to find out things about yourself that go against what you’ve been taught is proper. Add to that the input of outside sources and you’ve got a recipe for drama and heartache. Rewriting your belief system is not for the faint of heart. And not everyone has the strength to do it. Does Leah have what it takes to go after what she truly wants? Ride this emotional roller coaster with her and find out!
Even though I had a rocky start with this book, it turned out to be a spectacular read. I am glad that I gave it a chance and stuck with it.
Fisher of Men (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 1)
By Phoebe Alexander
I was definitely intrigued by the synopsis of this book. I enjoyed reading about Leah Miller and Chris “Cap” Sheldon, their chemistry is off the charts. I really liked how the author portrayed the conflict Leah was struggling with between her religion and her sexuality. I thought both of the characters were really strong in their own ways along with some of the supporting characters in this story. I enjoyed learning more about the swingers lifestyle, to be honest I really had no idea what it was really about, I had only heard the term but without much detail. I think Phoebe did an excellent job with her detail and descriptions of the lifestyle and setting of this story. I found myself rooting for these two, hoping they can find a way to work through the issues and be together. You must read if you want to find out if they end up together. This is the first book in this series and I can’t wait to read the next. I highly recommend this book, keep in mind that this is an adult book.

5 out of 5 stars
Fisher of Men is the first book in the stand alone Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander. This is the second book I’ve read in this series but I’m not new to Ms. Alexander’s work, I’ve started sampling some of her other series! I haven’t met a Phoebe Alexander book I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed yet and Fisher Of Men is no exception.
I read the third book in the Eastern Shore Series first so seeing where it all began in this book was a real treat, I recognized some names- Rhonda, Casey and of course Leah and Cap. By the end of the book I was left craving more and ready to go on with the series.
When you read the about the author segment for Phoebe Alexander it mentions that she writes sex positive, body positive stories and if you’re not familiar with her work yet, this couldn’t be more accurate. Each story I’ve read has had a captivating erotic theme while bringing a great, strong storyline along with it. Each of the characters I’ve “met” so far are strong and stand their ground. Leah was able to discover her true self whether it was in her relationship, sexuality or her faith and I think it shows true talent to have such a balanced storyline where there is no lack of entertainment in any area. So many times you read a book where a woman may not stand her ground right away and once Leah’s mind was made, it was made. In the same respect, Leah is the type of character that can keep a level head and really see things from different perspectives admitting fault when necessary. I really respected her character and look forward to seeing how she grows more throughout the series. As far as the storyline goes, the serendipity tie in this book is what truly sealed the deal for me!
My very first experience with “the lifestyle” and Phoebe Alexander’s writing was in the Juniper Court series book, Project Paradise. While this book has nothing to do with how incredible Fisher Of Men is, it opened me to a new genre of books, led me to this series, and honestly created a new fan of this author.
Fisher of Men (Eastern Shore Swingers #1) by Phoebe Alexander. This is the first book of this type I’ve read. I enjoyed it even though it was out of my comfort zone. It’s the story of Leah Miller a good Christian girl brought up in a very religious home. She has worked really hard and become the Assistant General Manager of The Pearl one of Ocean City’s nicest Hotels. During a party at The Pearl Leah meets Chris “Cap” Sheldon a Charter Fishing Captain and sparks instantly fly. Cap is very free sexually and Leah is not. Can the two come together, can Leah become more adventurous or can Cap settle down for Leah. Leah’s faith is so strong can she reconcile with this lifestyle or will Cap give it up because he’s fallen for Leah. This was a very sweet, sexy story.
Fisher of Men (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 1) by Phoebe Alexander
5 out of 5 stars
I do not give out a lot of 5 stars. A book must really touch my soul, be incredibly well written, and/or have an a major impact on me to get 5 stars from me. This book has more than earned the 5 stars. Fisher of Men is an erotic romance novel and this first in this series and it came crashing through the front door. Leah Miller, daughter of a Preacher Man (Praise Be to Aretha) was raised in a very conservative, Christian household. I would almost call it claustrophobic with its rules and regulations. But instead of following in the parent chosen life, she branched out into Hotel Management and took a job on the East Coast with a hotel called, The Pearl, where she figured she would learn about how the rest of the world live. There she meets and falls for a man aptly named Cap, or Capt Chris Sheldon, who, after attending one of the famous parties hosted by The Pearl, she learns…is a swinger.
This plot, while extreme, has some very relatable characters. Leah and Chris are both very loveable and extreme fun. Chris is super hot. I pictured a Chris Hemsworth look alike in my head, but I also can admit to a small obsession with the Aussie. Ms Alexander has done an incredible job keeping the reader engaged, yet not rushing the story. Her book is both complex, yet delicate in its simplicity that it is a love story. This book is highly recommended for readers of romance, erotic stories and just fans of Phoebe Alexander.
Leah is conflicted between her Christian faith, her parents’ path, and falling in love with Captain Chris Shelton. She left her small town in Nebraska to go to university and then to work at a hotel, a major departure from her parents’ desire for her. She meets Casey who leads Casey’s Group and rented a ballroom at the hotel where Leah works. However, Leah finds out that Casey is holding a swingers party at the hotel as well as finding out that Chris is a swinger too. Then there was the issue of Cap being much older than her at 42 while Leah is 27. And Leah is dead set against having a baby ever despite her friend having one.
It is a sexy, explicit romance about swingers as well as finding a way to make peace with her faith and upbringing in order to find true love and a life that meets her needs. I enjoyed reading about Aimee, her friend who is married and pregnant. Captain has his own reasons for becoming a swinger and plans for Leah that cause her doubts to arise. Then he offers her a job opportunity that she feels conflicted about taking. Then there was also the major incident that causes her to question her relationship.
This was a romance, a sexy swinger story, and about whether her faith and her desires can be reconciled. All of this made for an absorbing, titillating, and sexy story. I was not into the swinging part of it, though I would be less judgmental of the lifestyle now that I have read a couple of books by this author about it, but I found Leah’s dilemma and her embracing of her faith as a way to make up for her past to be relatable.
It is not a Christian fiction novel if you are expecting a clean romance and a Christian couple.
This can be read as a standalone, and it is currently a free ebook.

Fisher of Men is the first book in the Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander. This book is a wonderful, interesting and informative contemporary romance that explores the world of swinging- and what happens when a minister’s daughter meets a sexy swinger.
To many, this story may seem way out of your comfort zone, but I encourage you to keep an open mind and dive in, because you will be pleasantly surprised by what you find between the covers of this beautiful story. Yes, this book does have the swinging element to it, and while that is an important part of the plot, there is so much more to this wonderful love story. I love how Ms. Alexander blended the swinging lifestyle of our leading male character, with the religious/spiritual beliefs of our leading female character; then sprinkled some emotion, curiosity, struggles, drama, acceptance, passion, erotica, and angst into the mix- and produced a fantastic, well balanced and sex-positive story that drew me in right from the get-go.
This book is nothing like I thought it would be, and was deeper, sweeter and more meaningful than I had expected.
Another great read from this superb author!
Thank you, Ms. Alexander!
This book involves a subject matter that is not one I usually read. However I thought the author did a respectful job of attempting to reconcile faith and lifestyle choices and the struggle one faces when attempting to do so. The characters are well developed and quirky. The storyline moves at a good pace and has a steady ebb and flow. Overall a good book and establishing a solid basis for a series to start.
