I enjoyed this book but had not realized it was book one in a series. I will most likely continue with the series sometime in the near future. As to the book itself, I enjoyed the characters and the plot of the book. I found myself fully invested in
Emily’s search for her friend even though it was/appeared to be a dangerous undertaking.
Too much “in her head dialog” and the fact that she couldn’t just stand up for her self was difficult. The underlying story of the main characters romance was sexy. I don’t like to see weak woman in today’s story lines.
Excellent character development and wonderful pacing. This book was exciting and unpredictable. Good read!
Sucked
Laurelin.. you did it again girl… you made me inlove with Reeve… how can we not?? The story is intriguing.. sexy.. and scroching hot!
When Emily Wayborn receives word that her longtime friend is in trouble and needs her help she immediately jumps into action, and sets out on a mission to restore her friends safety. She soon learns that not only is her friend in danger, but she is also missing and the one person who could possibly put her on the right path to finding her is the notorious bad boy billionaire Reeve Sallis. She knows it is going to be tricky to get close to him, so she decides she is going to have to turn on her charm and become a woman she put on the shelf a long time ago. In order to get the answers she needs she is going to have to seduce him, gain his trust, and sneakingly find the answers she needs, and avoid falling into old habits. But the minute she lays eyes on him she starts to feel her resolve slip, and knows she might just have gotten herself into far more than she bargained for…
The minute Reeve Sallis spots sexy actress Emily Wayborn swimming in his personal pool he knows she has ulterior motives, motives meant to seduce him and earn herself the prestigious spot on his arm… but he isn’t about to let her in that easy. He knows there is an end game there, but she is far too tempting to send away just yet, so he decides he’ll play her game and see where it leads. But just when he thinks he is getting somewhere with her she walks away, and it drives him beyond crazy, so a little obsession ensues, and he goes to crazy lengths to get her back. And the minute he gets his first taste of her he knows it’s an obsession that will last a lifetime…
This was my first time experiencing the work of Ms. Paige, and all I can say is WOW!!! I had read a few reviews going in and thought I had a good idea of what to expect, but the minute I started it I knew nothing could have prepared me for this thrilling literary escape!! It was brimming with elicit passion, gut wrenching emotion, and love scenes that set my world on fire, and had me sporting a permanent blush!!! The moment Reeve waltzed onto the page, I had chills, chills that lasted well after the last page was turned, he commanded my undivided attention, and had me at his mercy from start to finish…and boy oh boy what a finish it was!! The last few pages damn near killed me, it had me gasping for air, and starving for more!!! This is by far one of the best reads I have settled down with this year and Ms. Paige has earned herself a spot amongst my favorites with this one…dare I say it is the HOTTEST romance story I have EVER read!!
If you like your fairy tales a little on the naughty side, and equipped with a dominate alpha leading the way then I HIGHLY suggest you meet Mr. Reeve Sallis, the man will shatter your perception of what alpha male means, and leave you literally breathless and aching for more!!
ARC given by St. Martin’s Griffin in exchange for a honest and unbiased review.
Well, that’s what happens when you have a long time to read a specific author that has already proved that can sweep you off your feet and “kill” you with her stories easily. So, when you get to read another book of her, then you getting more “killed”. And that’s what happened to me with Laurelin Paige’s First Touch. It totally K I L L E D me!! Mercifully so. And just like Jen said above:
HOLY. MOTHER. OF. GOD!! WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED??
I couldn’t agreed more with her! Honestly, this is the only way that First Touch can be described accuretly! Because even though is a masterpiece with every sense and aspect of the word, it doesn’t do it justice since it’s more more than that! I really don’t know how to say what this book made me feel because I have forgotten how to write, think and generally breathe!
From the very first moment that I read the blurb I knew that this book was going to be the something else. But now that I have finished it, I can say with 20000% clarity that I was caught off guard. It definitely surpassed all my expectations by far far far. Laurelin Paige proved once again what a great great author she really is.
Reeve and Emily’s story is simply outstanding, stunning, awesome, amazing. Whatever word I choose is 100 times more. And not because of the evolution of their feelings for each other but what is happening while that happens. And the same goes for the two too. Reeve and Emily are two incredibly intriguing characters. And when they are put together, they create something so great that its limit is over this galaxy! Also, there isn’t one moment in it, that you can predict even the slightest detail. I was in a constant state of breathtaking surprise. There were many times that I didn’t know what side was up. And as the story progressed and I was getting deeper in it, I saw clearly that the only thing that I had to do to survive it, was to just go with the flow Laurelin set. And I was more than rewarded in the end!
And, since a Greek girl, I can’t bypassed the fact that there was that big of a greek element in it. No matter that it was in Mafia reference! Also, the fun thing about it was that when there were greek “dialogues” without actually being solid dialogues and part of the book, I could imagine in greek what could possibly said. It was really surreal! :p And made Reeve even hotter than he already was! If that’s even possible because this guy can easily be put as an example or the actual definition of HOTNESS in the dictionary. Independently the language.
As, for the cliffhanger in the end and the twist that was done, I have only one thing to say: WHYYYYYY? WHY DID YOU DO THAT LAURELIN?. And I’m not saying that because of the actual cliff, but because the second books comes out in J U N E! How we are supposed to wait until then without losing a part of our heart to see what happens next and how is going to end? IF it’s ending in the second book!
I am SO torn how to rate this book! My first instinct is to give it a rating for the story itself, but feel like I wouldn’t do justice to the rest of the book…especially the characters and their development because Laurelin Paige did a PHENOMENAL job of creating these characters and their worlds and because of that I kept reading. So because of that, I am going to rate the stars according to the plot and writing style. You see, I liked the story in of itself and it kept me intrigued and kept me reading until the very end. This is my first Laurelin Paige novel and after reading it, I know I would like to read more of her books bc she truly has a talent for writing a very vivid story and “painting a picture” so to speak for her characters. But what lost me was the characters themselves. I would say they were ok, if not meh for me. I did not and was not able to connect to them what so ever. I could sympathize with their story and feelings bc Laurelin developed them so extremely well, but I couldn’t justify some of their actions. Now with that being said, I was naive and went into this book blind (didn’t read the synopsis) and for that, that is my fault. I think of myself as an open-minded reader and have read darn near anything and everything when it comes to “erotica” and “romance”, but after reading FIRST TOUCH, I would label this novel as “dark romance” and I think to some extent I found my “hard limit” from some of this book. *jaw hits the floor*
Now with all that I have said, I would still tell you to give this book a chance bc even though I personally couldn’t connect with the characters, doesn’t mean you won’t on some level. And I do plan on reading book 2 bc I NEED to know where this story goes! We were left on a HUGE cliffy and I have to know what is to become of it all in the end.
