Lots of turmoil and angst in this book. Brought up many emotions for me, being raised Catholic: the good vs evil, Angel vs Demon, had me flip-flopping as much as the chapters. Going back and forth in time ( before and after the crime), had my mind racing. My heart went out to Luke… temptation and lust can blind you to what is right or wrong. I was rooting for Celeste and wanted him to make the right choice. I never thought he truly understood the final consequence for his actions. Not totally a 5 star read for me, but was more than a 4… Wish we could give half stars. All in all, a good read.
“There was little hop of recovering the man I used to be anymore. After falling so far already, I just wanted to hit the bottom so that there’d be nowhere left to fall.”
Let me start by saying, I love paranormal themes, twists and turns, and a good steamy romance. This one had all three!
So, we have Luke, who is at the top of his game – a great promotion, a loving family, a comfortable life. What better to round it all out, than the perfect woman by his side, right? Well, once Lorelei enters the picture his life starts to collapse. As the reader you are privy to who Lorelei is, and what is happening to Luke under her manipulation. This just made me feel sad for Luke because he couldn’t see past his passion for her, to what she was actually doing to him.
Now, we have Lorelei. I’m not getting too much into her character but suffice it to say, I hated her, as I think I was supposed to. There was no hope for a redemptive ending for her as you are not led to believe that was even a possibility. I think knowing who she was and what her end goal was created the unsavable villain.
Celeste is Luke’s only hope. Will he realize that in time?
This was a great read and I’m moving on to book 2!! Who is Lorelei’s next victim?
Luke is a man who has life moving in the direction he wants. He is close to his family, his job is on an upward path and he is confident, happy, and content. The only thing missing is the right woman to share it all with. Enter Lorelai. From the first Luke is captured by the blonde beauty who he meets at a bar after his promotion celebration. Things are good until anxiety and doubts start to creep in. Lorelai isn’t what she appears to be and soon Luke must make a choice.
I grabbed this book without reading the blurb so I had no idea what I was going into. This is a contemporary read with a paranormal twist. Told in alternating POVs and switching from the past to the present, you will have to keep a mental running tab on the timeline but it does allow the reasoning for what Luke and Lorelai do to come as a bit of a surprise. This is the timeless fight between good and evil with man’s free will the pendulum that swings between the two. Luke is a good person who is drawn into things he would never have thought he could do, all because of his love of a woman, and the consequences that his actions bring to his life.
This is a good debut book from Daniel Grayson, one that looks like it will continue on through the various sins that tempt man. The main characters are well developed, the story fleshed out, and the ending a shock. I look forward to more of this storyline.
First To Follow: 4th Sin Book 1
By Daniel Grayson
I’m on the fence about this book. It took me a while to get into this book then I found myself skimming parts that were recaps of what already happened. I found it hard to engage with the characters especially since there wasn’t really any true connection between them. It kept switching from present time to past tense as well. Luke was the main character yet I felt nothing. He wasn’t anything special to begin with and as time went on he was even less so. I didn’t understand the reason why he was chosen. I didn’t feel anything for Lorelai no pull, spark or anything. I didn’t feel a chemistry between them at all. There wasn’t any real secondary characters that played a role either except near the end with Celeste and with the whole situation it seemed like she didn’t have a care in the world no urgency.
Three
There’s always the debate between good and bad. I freely admit I have angel on one shoulder and devil on the other. They’re always arguing and trying to sway my decisions. I can’t even begin to tell you who won more arguments. This book…I can’t even describe the debate between right and wrong. I can’t describe how taken in I was. I can’t describe a couple of the hOT HOT scenes. I’m jumping in my chair trying not to type in spoilers!! New author, first book, a MUST MUST read!
I’d like to begin by saying First To Follow doesn’t fit into my usual choice of genre. However that being said I enjoyed the storyline, it’s unpredictable with twists and turns. As a debut book it was a solid place to start. In all honesty I struggled to finish the book, but I stayed the course. On reflection I believe the reason I kept losing interest was due to lack of connection to the characters. It was only the last few chapters where I felt engaged. Looking back I realised there wasn’t a lot of dialogue between the characters, which in turn became an emotionless read.
Luke was ticking the boxes, with a promotion at work life was looking up. On first sight of Lorelai he was lost in lust, they ran and jumped into a relationship.
When for an unknown reason chinks start appearing in Luke’s life, but Lorelai stands strongly by his side. Along the way Luke isolates himself from family, workmates and friends. The only connection he still has is to his sisters room mate Celeste. He finds himself in between a tug of war between both women, question is which team will he pick?
Loved it
This was such a first great book by this author. At every turn of the page he keeps you guessing and wanting more. This book will grab you from the beginning and you won’t want to put it down. I cannot wait to see where he goes next with this story.
Author Daniel Grayson’s first book to be released, has him hitting it out of the park! 5 does not do this book justice, but if I could, I would have given 10! What is refreshing about reading the words of a new author, is to be able to form my own opinion without being swayed by what other readers think. Daniel Grayson is an excellent wordsman who captivated my mind into thinking the “what if” about apast relationship of mine, that was suppose to be based on love but became the opposite in the blink of my eye. What is love? Pleasure? Pain? Affection? Lust? Heartache? Lorelai is a blonde, blue eyed bombshell who meets Luke in a bar. Luke’s life, as he knows it, will take a turn because of the “love” he has for Lorelai. This is a fabulous one of a kind story that will give you many moments of ‘what just happened” and “I didn’t see that coming”. Well done, Daniel Grayson in your first book of a three part series. I can’t wait to read the second book to see what is up this authors sleeve. This author has left me wanting to read more!
What an absolutely phenomenal debut by Daniel Grayson! I was completely blown away by this story, so when you crack this book open, prepare to lose yourself until it ends. The scenes are unique and creative, with an intriguing and innovative plot, with a little drama, and a little romance, that will keep you guessing and leave you wanting more. First to Follow is one of those books that is going to shock fans, but you’re going to love it! A fantastic read from start to finish. Definitely a 5 star read!!
First to Follow is Daniel Grayson’s first book. I was immediately drawn into the world he created. I wish I could give this book more stars. I was mesmerized by the way the author wrote was more than simple words. He is a wordsmith. There surprises along the way. Bravo to Daniel Grayson!
