This is P. O. Dixon’s First in Series Limited Edition Collection. She offers her readers book 1 from several of her popular series.
1) A Lasting Love Affair (A Darcy and Elizabeth Love Affair Book 1): 4-stars: ends at 48%
“To state the facts frankly is not to despair the future nor indict the past. The prudent heir takes careful inventory of his legacies and gives a faithful accounting to those whom he owes an obligation of trust.” John F. Kennedy
Our P&P [Pride and Prejudice] universe is somewhat altered from canon. There are many changes and timelines that are skewed differently and our dear couple meet under different circumstances. Elizabeth has been sent to visit her father’s elder sister Lady Vanessa Barrett, with whom he is estranged. Her ladyship is a widow and without an heir and she has decided to take Elizabeth under her wing and train her in the ways of being a lady and how to conduct herself in a new circle of society. If Elizabeth stays with her and does well during her training, consisting of a twelve-month complete, then Lady Barrett will make Elizabeth her heir.
There are many changes within the Bennet family. Elizabeth spends her nights, before going to bed, writing to Jane. This was so touching. When Elizabeth and Darcy finally introduced, I was especially thrilled to see the famous dialogue switch about with different outcomes. There were so many misunderstandings and trials between our dear couple.
Lady Catherine was especially vexing. I especially felt for her poor coachman and horses as she traipsed around the countryside, looking for Elizabeth, in order to make her sentiments known. It was hilarious.
Wickham made his disgusting appearance… the rat bastard. I want to know why they didn’t hang him for desertion? But then, that would throw a wrench in the works and the Bennet sisters didn’t need to suffer because Lydia was being stupid. And boy, was she a pip in this story. Lawd, that child… help us all.
This was a clean, enjoyable read. It was short and could be read rather quickly. It finished at 48% on my device. Book 2, [‘Tis the Season for Matchmaking], continues the story-line.
2) Lady Elizabeth [Pride and Prejudice Everything will change book 1]: 4-stars: ends at 92%
“The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.” Billy Graham
A four-year old Lizzy disappears from the streets of Lambton, right under the nose of Mr. Gardiner. He and the Bennets are never able to find her. As the reader, we know what happened and the timeline then jumps ahead about fifteen years. Our story deals with Lady Elizabeth Montlake, granddaughter to the Duke of Dunsmore preparing for her first Season in London. Her mother Lady Sophia and brother Lord Avery Montlake do not know of her origins. Her grandfather is adamant regarding Lady Elizabeth marrying a peer
There is a lot of mystery and intrigue regarding blackmail and scandal. We also get to see the budding feelings between both Darcy and Lady Elizabeth even though both are promised to another. It is when Darcy travels to Hertfordshire to visit Bingley that he sees a resemblance between a Bennet daughter and Lady Elizabeth Montlake. He soon makes a discovery that will change everything. We end on that note.
This was a clean story. There were continuity problems with someone knowing/discussing something before it had been revealed. This story continues in book 2 [So Far Away].
3) A Tender Moment (Moments in Time Book 1) 3-stars: ends at 98%
“To be hopeful means to be uncertain about the future, to be tender toward possibilities, to be dedicated to change all the way down to the bottom of your heart.” Rebecca Solnit
This was a clean, short, short window of time [Epigraph and 3 parts] that ended rather quickly. Amazon shows this as having 42 pages. I already owned this book and had previously written a review.
It is to be followed by Book 2 ‘Irrevocably Gone’ (A Tender Moment Continuation).
“Men always want to be a woman’s first love – women like to be a man’s last romance.” Oscar Wilde
