The Terran survey ship Aurora makes a startling discovery in an uncharted star system: two planets inhabited by an advanced, and decidedly unfriendly, non-human civilization. Disabled by gigantic alien warships before it can escape, the Aurora is boarded by nightmarish blue-skinned warriors with claws and fangs who slaughter the crew in ritual combat using primitive weapons. The sole survivor, … Midshipman Ichiro Sato, is returned to Earth as a messenger bearing a device that warns of an impending attack.
For that is the way of the Kreelan Empire, which has waged war against countless civilizations across the stars in its quest for a savior, one not of their own blood, foretold in an ages-old prophecy. With only a few generations left before their ancient species faces extinction, the Kreelans will wage their last war against humanity, hoping against hope for redemption of sins long past.

Interesting premise, even aliens that may look similar can be totally different for reasons we would find hard to understand. How do we know what drives them if they chose to attack but not communicate or at least not communicate via language but via actions…
Different first contact, although we are still in trouble with aliens again.
Mediocre
Over a period of 40+ years I have read and enjoyed Anne McCaffrey’s books, from the first short stories on, from Restoree to the Pern series. They are all interesting and leave me, at least, wanting to read more. She is missed.
Enjoyed this–creative storyline
Excellent reading!!
interesting bad guys
Space battles, romance, like able character and aliens
Great military Sci Fi
Loved the book and the series. Read the series straight through.
A new twist on encountering other life forms. Entertaining.
Once you start reading it’s hard to put down.
Don’t waste your time. This is the beginning of a series and I am not going to read any of the rest of the books in it. I found myself skimming through pages and pages of dross to read about the aliens only. Even they were not that interesting.
Great read
Bit of a slow start then full throttle through to the end. Felt like it was really happening as I read it.
I LOVED this book. This was my first book by Michael Hicks & I am so excited seeing how prolific he is! I cant wait to get my hands on more novels!!!
Exciting culture clash
The characters are easy to relate to even the alien ones. Interesting alien culture and hierarchy.
I really like the story of this book but because of the swearing I’m not likely to read anymore of them
Another great read by a great story teller!
Great descriptive author!
