The Terran survey ship Aurora makes a startling discovery in an uncharted star system: two planets inhabited by an advanced, and decidedly unfriendly, non-human civilization. Disabled by gigantic alien warships before it can escape, the Aurora is boarded by nightmarish blue-skinned warriors with claws and fangs who slaughter the crew in ritual combat using primitive weapons. The sole survivor, … Midshipman Ichiro Sato, is returned to Earth as a messenger bearing a device that warns of an impending attack.
For that is the way of the Kreelan Empire, which has waged war against countless civilizations across the stars in its quest for a savior, one not of their own blood, foretold in an ages-old prophecy. With only a few generations left before their ancient species faces extinction, the Kreelans will wage their last war against humanity, hoping against hope for redemption of sins long past.

This book has a lot of good things going for it. It has science fiction, such as alien races at war with each other. It also has science fiction elements that I can only compare to the Dune saga, such as Other Memory and prana-bindu. Also, it has what claims to be fantasy which I found kind of a stretch with alien creatures/dragons, & …
What a ride! Read the first book and will have to get the next one to see where it leads!
Great world building. Would make a good video series.
I do not like to read books as bait in one of a series. Like tv commercials on cable, too many is unethical
Amazing book
This book builds on the premise that the first aliens we run into are an extremely old and very advanced race built on a hive premise but with a strong sense of fair play. Once we meet them, everything moves forward very quickly and the beginning of what looks to be a long, complex war begins. It was very interesting and I kept reading without …
This was so awesome. Well written, great plot, easy to follow! Characters are believable and the motivation carried through the entire story line. One of the best modern sci-fi stories I’ve read.
Many of the character names were unpronounceable which made them hard to remember, and about the time you did get to know them, they were killed off. If you like sci-fi stories that are based around unending war, you will like this. For me, I cannot imagine reading the 7 or 8 of them left in the series.
first in series difficult to put down well written
Everything a sci-fi book should be!
Good sci-fi
one of the best sci fi books I have ever read
Fascinationg thesis. Well written, interesting, gets you in the gut. I am half way through and enjoying it very much.
Not your typical Star Trek space adventure.
This is a must read – the twists and turns make it hard to stop reading – a well crafted storyline with interesting characters. If you are a sci-fi fan run, don’t walk, to get this book. I can’t wait to read the sequels!!!!
Have read this entire series by Michael Hicks as well as his other books and LOVED them all!
Loved it
The whole series is great!
The first science fiction book I’ve actually enjoyed for years. At times it’s almost like the hunger games or acient Rome, you forget it’s set in the future, excellent.
This was different and very interesting. I read all of the books in this series.
