Dragons. Right. Teenage girls don’t believe in fairy tales, and sixteen-year old Elena Watkins was no different.Until the night a fairy tale killed her father. Now Elena’s in a new world, and a new school. The cutest guy around may be an evil dragon, a Prince wants Elena’s heart, and a long dead sorcerer may be waking up to kill her. Oh. And the only way Elena’s going to graduate is on the back of … the back of a dragon of her own.
Teenage girls don’t believe in fairy tales. Now it’s time for Elena to believe – in herself.
Q. Tell us what the novel/series is about.
A. Firebolt is the first novel in the series. It’s about a sixteen-year-old girl, Elena Watkins, who is taken to a world called Paegeia. She learns the hard truth that once you enter you can never leave. The key to Paegeia’s survival comes in the form of a formidable sword that was stolen. The series is about bravery, growing, finding herself and where she belongs, and becoming the person she is meant to be, mixed in with loads of dragons, magic and romance. I personally have a thing for dragons. If the fictional kind existed, I would probably have a colony. The dragons I created for my world shifts into humans, not the other way around, as they are born dragons, or hatched out of an egg. The setting is modern but with an epic fantasy feel. I decided to go this route because all the other dragon stories I love, when done in a fantasy world, usually plays off in the medieval times. I wanted something more modern, so I wrote it. I’ve worked really hard on the story line and have been told many times that it’s a really great series and fans read them over and over.
Q. What order should the series been read in?
Firebolt
Venom (novelette)
Thunderlight
Frostbite
Poison (Novella)
Moonbreeze
Starlight
Venom and Poison are actually chunks of deleted scenes from Thunderlight and Moonbreeze that slow down the novels. I ended up turning them into a novella and a novelette.
Q. Why should readers buy the series?
A. I spent years crafting it, and turning it into the best it could be. The heroine isn’t very strong in the first novel, she is a normal teenager with fears and doubts, just like every other human her age. It’s filled with adventure, an academy that hovers in the sky, 11 dragon breeds, a kick ass prince who obviously steals Elena’s heart and a bad boy Alpha dragon. And all of that is mixed with magic, spells, gaining abilities around the age of seventeen and taming dragons. Who can ask for more?
Q. I don’t have time to read because of little time in my busy day to day schedule, is there a way to listen to this series on audio.
A. Glad you asked. Yes, Tantor Media has developed the Dragonian Series into audios.
The wonderful, and I mean she is really wonderful as a narrator, Erin Moon, is the voice of Elena.
She is bringing the series to a new high with the audios, giving voice not just to Elena but also to all the other characters in the series. Her accents are to die for. She is really brilliant and will entertain you for hours. I’m very, very, proud of my audios. So if you don’t have time to read, be sure to listen instead.
Q. Do you have any other series planned that follows the characters of this world?
A. Yes, they are called the Beam Series. Moonbeam is actually taking place 10 years (more or less) after Starlight ended.
Darkbeam Part I-III is Blake Leaf’s story
Starbeam (Feature Release)
Firebeam (feature Release)

Firebolt is the first book in the Dragonian series. I don’t know how the rest of series will be but this book to me is something I would recommend to fans of Harry Potter. It involves a hidden school, dragons, sorcery and of course the main character is just learning that dragons are real.
While I enjoyed the story, I found it to be quite predictable but look forward to read the next book to see what’s next for the characters.
I wavered between a 3 or a 4 star.
The writing was awful in places. Long long descriptions that left me trying to puzzle out exactly what was being described, as the adjectives hid the lack of identifying nouns.
The heroine cried. All the friggin’ time. no one seemed to mind, which was odd.
Why on earth didn’t she chose the menu when she answered the riddles? Such an odd plot point — oh, I can’t answer because then my friend will take the credit and choose the menu. Huh?
And even at the end of the book she’s still talking of her father’s paranoia. The man was killed — how is this paranoia? Can’t she think this through?
It’s another “outsider goes to school and the two hottest guys fall for her …” overdone trope. It’s clear she’s fated to be with the sulky hot dude.
If she has the darkest mark ever seen, when even a pale mark is guaranteed admittance to the school, why on earth is she then told (and believes) she can’t be there because she doesn’t belong?
And yet, despite these persistent annoyances, I finished the book. There’s something there, and it’s good. I hope later books are less inconsistent and verbose, because there is gold in there.
And please – less crying!
I’m conflicted with this book. In the beginning and in several other parts it’s exciting and a somewhat fun read. In general it’s an interesting idea behind the plot. However, I feel like it doesn’t really follow a clear storyline and at many points I got bored in the story. The majority of the story is about life in school and classes. Not much is happening and halfway through I gave up and moved on to other books instead. I came back of course to finish the story, but I will not continue to read the rest of the series.
Whilst reading the book there were many things that bothered me. One thing is the dialogues. It felt very stilted with a lot of cliques and jokes that only were indicated to be funny jokes because the characters laughed. Another thing that bothered me were the relationships, both the romantic ones and the friendships. It all felt kind of “childish” with lack of a better word. They are supposed to be around 16 years old and reading the story I can see that the author tried to direct it to people that age. She has for example included the mention of sex and if the characters are virgins or not. They act somewhat younger in my opinion and when the mention of sex was included it just felt very forced and did not fit with the flow of the writing.
I honestly think, based on the writing and style, that this book would have been better fitted as a children’s book (if you remove the mention of sex of course). The writing and characters are way to childish to speak to an older audience. If I had read this when I was around 11 or 12 years old, I probably would have loved it. As it is now … just no.
Story moved so quickly it was unrealistic. Needed more background.
I thought this was a great book. Can’t wait to finish the series.
Innovative magical world filled with dragons. I love the usage of the Bermuda triangle and the wall that controls how those with magical abilities or of Dragon blood can leave and come from the world. This is my first book by Adrienne Woods and I am pleasant surprised
This series was awesome! The authors ability to create a vivid world to immerse yourself in while reading was wonderful. Great lead characters, interesting story plot.
This would be a good movie idea!
this whole series is pretty good. once i started i couldnt stop until i finished the whole thing. which is what i like in any series or trilogy
This series was a delight to read. The main protagonist has some nice twists and, while predictable at times, the story is entertaining and original.
This is a great opener for a series – fans of Harry Potter will enjoy becoming immersed in another great magical world – this one including dragons! Humans and dragons work together in a magical land that is protected from unbelieving and destructive humans by a magical wall, but there is trouble in paradise as even those with the greatest capacity for good can be tainted by evil. A group of teenage dragons and riders try to stop the madness….Good storytelling – in the young adult fantasy genre.
I got the book 1 of the series free of cost and I read the book in single sitting. The story line and world build up is quite enchanting .
I really liked the main character Elena very much . Her teen romance with Lucien McKenzie was freaking awesome. I totally connected with it … the book 1 is quiet a good read …I promise if you like the world of mistical /magical fantcy , you will fall head over heels for the book..
Hope it get to read the book 2 of the series soon
This story rocked. I couldn’t put it down. You definitely have to read the rest of the series to get a full appreciation of the story, but each book is complete in it’s own right.
Best Dragon book series since Aragon.
I ended up buying the following books and reading the whole series. Nice twist at the very end.
Some good ideas, but I find the main character irritating and her overblown issues hamper the storyline.
I loved this book so much that I bought the other books in the series so I could keep reading the story.
Great young adult read.
Loved this book.
Had to download the other books right away. Just getting to the last one. Still enjoying them
Addictive. I had to binge read the rest of the series!
I found the main character a bit annoying as she seemed whiny and incapable of doing anything on her own yet miraculously she was able to be the hero in the end. It just seemed a bit far fetched to go from one extreme to the next.
