Other authors offer lots of free material and lots of books. Yet, very often, I come out of those texts thinking that I need to have money to make money the way they tell the tale, if only to pay for their very expensive courses.
Jonathan works with the stuff he teaches at the pro level. While way above the reach of a beginner, the way he explains it makes it seem scalable from where I am now.
The basic message of this book is, if I can already do something, capitalising it is the quickest way to enter this industry, whether my first book is ready to go out or in a half-baked dream. I can bake it as I walk towards my goals, getting paid at every step of the way, until voilà, I have a cake. The business models covered are based on skills that I will need as an author, either in a do-it-yourself basis or by hiring someone else. No reason, he says, why I could not be the middle man in cases where I have no expertise, introducing experts to clients even when I do not have the means nor the need to do the hiring myself and getting paid for it. That’s networking, as simply put by Jonathan. The rest is similar: ideas on how to market my industry-specific skills as I acquire them.
The book, promised to be always free, is not sales-pitchy. Jonathan directs you to his site, mentions free material on the book’s contents, his social media and some other bits. In no instance I saw a hard sale being attempted, no links to BUY BUY BUY. That’s nice. He’s not treating me as a pocket. I am now free to chase his other stuff and try it out. And follow his leads.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I do have other books by the author, which I recommend. And yes, he does reply to emails.
Once you decide to open this book, it actually becomes a really fast read. You may put it down for a moment to grab pen and paper to make some notes, but you won’t want to stop reading until you’re finished. It’s that powerful, period. The author’s writing style is casual, yet he brings an intensity to the subject of getting out from under the 9-to-5 grind that shows his passion for his businesses and the need to help others along the way. He delivers his message just as you would imagine him telling a friend a story, which makes the material all at once approachable, yet also incredibly inspirational. As soon as I finished, I rushed to his website to check out the goodies mentioned at the end of the book.

There’s always something new to learn from reading self-improvement, DIY, or business books, but all too often the things learned seem limited to the category of “what not to do”. Thankfully, this is NOT that book.
Jonathan is an author, an entrepreneur, and a success at the principles he teaches. Rather than presenting just theory, he provides actionable content with real world examples, as well as links to his website for free training – adding further depth to his message.
Another element I enjoy is his conversational style. There are other writers who are far too conversational to the point where it is a struggle to find the actual content in their voice, and many whose dry prose is a perfect antidote for insomnia. Mr. Green manages to find the perfect balance, being friendly and engaging while remaining completely professional.
I feel that, rather than learning from a professor, I’m being given practical advice from a trusted friend.
And it is really great learning from someone who actually has skin in the game – replacing his 9 to 5 with a lifestyle powered entirely by his entrepreneurial creativity.
An excellent read, very much appreciated.
