When FBI profiler Kaely Quinn’s mother is diagnosed with cancer, Kaely takes time off work to go to Dark Water, Nebraska, to help her brother care for their mother. Upon her arrival, she learns of a series of fires in the small town, attributed by the fire chief to misuse of space heaters in the frigid winter. But Kaely is skeptical, and a search for a pattern in the locations of the fires … bolsters her suspicions.
After yet another blaze devastates a local family, Kaely is certain a serial arsonist is on the loose. Calling upon her partner from St. Louis, Noah Hunter, and her brother’s firefighter neighbor who backs Kaely’s suspicions, Kaely and her team begin an investigation that swiftly leads them down a twisted path. When the truth is finally revealed, Kaely finds herself confronting a madman who is determined his last heinous act will be her death.

An excellent addition to the Kaely Quinn series! This new series by Nancy Mehl is quickly becoming my favorite of hers. Fire Storm allows us to see more into the heart of Kaely as we watch the dynamic between her and her mother. It becomes clear that the past has been difficult for all of them and they have not been able to look past their own feelings dealing with it to extend grace to each other. Kaely trip to help her brother care for their mother offers us a more inside picture of Kaely and how she is not always willing to face her own reality.
Kaely seems to always find work and danger and this trip is no different. She quickly finds herself immersed in an arson investigation. As her partner, Noah, joins her, they must also help the FBI office in Omaha try to capture a drug cartel. This proves to provide even more danger than expected, but Kaely quickly proves why she is so invaluable at what she does.
As the arson investigation intensifies, the danger increases with Noah being injured causing him and Kaely to realize there may be feelings between them as more than friends that neither want to face.
This book has very difficult to put down! It is full of mystery and intrigue that keeps you guessing until the very end. I cannot wait to see what adventure is next for Kaely Quinn!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Nancy Mehl and Bethany House. All opinions expressed are my own.
“When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”
Impossible. Improbable. Kaely Quinn’s return home to Darkwater, Nebraska to share care for her very ill mother catapults her into an unexpected series of unfortunate events. There appears to be a serial arsonist on the loose, but his signatures are confusing and even Kaely’s training as an F. B. I. Behavioral Specialist seem to be no match for someone who may be igniting a rather creepy vendetta. While Kaely remains perplexed, the hunted becomes the hunter, moving Kaely directly into a dangerous line of “fire”.
Honestly, some of this story line waffles back and forth between multiple emphases, threatening to water down its focus. Ultimately, what may or may not be crucial to the outcome, certainly adds to the intrigue, for what readers will remember is the end; which is rather brilliant!
Fire Storm, Book 2 Kaely Quinn Profiler by Nance Mehl
What a terrific book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Fire Storm. It definitively was a 5- star book. Fire Storm can be read as a stand-alone but Mind Games, Book One was too good a book to pass up. The characters are well developed and well written. It is an action packed, fast paced, full of suspense with a hint of romance. The author Nancy Mehl out did herself. I can’t wait to read the next book, to bad I have to wait. It’s a time for healing and forgiving for Kaely Quinn. Her character is multi-faceted, unique and spiritual. God is pruning her life and her faith will have to sustain her through her mother’s illness, family drama, attraction to Noah and fighting an evil arsonist. Nancy Mehl hit on a hard subject of mental illness or was it just a demonic spirit. You will have to read Fire Storm to judge for yourself.
3.5 stars
After the utter brilliance of Mind Games (definitely read this first to get to know Kaely), the second book in Nancy Mehl’s Kaely Quinn series had a lot to live up to. And, unfortunately, for me, it fell short.
The first three-quarters of the book are slow going. While I enjoyed getting to see some of Kaely’s family dynamic, that’s not why I pick up a romantic suspense read. Both the romance and the suspense seem to take a back seat in Fire Storm.
Noah is back and it feels like their relationship takes two steps forward, three steps back throughout this book. It’s stilted at times and downright uncomfortable at others. And the search for the arsonist was slow going until the final 20% of the book.
While I didn’t love this one like I did the first (nor did it contain the jaw-dropping surprises), the synopsis for the third book will definitely bring me back to Kaely’s world for the series finale.

Fire Storm ( Kaely Quinn Profiler book #2 )
By; Nancy Mehl
Fire Storm is book two in Kaely Profiler Series. A good suspense page turner that will keep you up way in the night reading. I was not disappointed. Kaely is a FBI profiler. She is a smart and brave woman. Between coming home to care for her mother she is caught up in a series of fires in the area. You will get to know Kaely and how she works better. I enjoy Fire Storm and the characters, both were well written and well developed.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but was not told that had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Mehl has scored again with this great book in the Kaely Quinn Profiler series. The first book Mind Games was on serial killings and this one on a serial arsonist. Kaely Quinn is a very unique character in the way she comes to conclusions in her job as a behavioral analyst with the FBI. She is the daughter of a renowned serial killer and because of this she has changed her name. Kaely is estranged from her family and has recently been in contact with her brother. Now she visits her mother who is dying with cancer and while in this small town of Darkwater finds multiple fires are taking place. This causes Kaely to think perhaps arson is the cause. Noah, her partner is contacted and together they begin to investigate the fires and this causes tension with her brother as he feels like she is neglecting their sick mother. Suspense at it’s best and lots of action in Mehl’s latest thriller…… I am grateful to have received a copy of Fire Storm from Bethany House in exchange for my honest opinion. I was under no obligation to provide a positive review and received no monetary compensation.
I knew that this book was going to be great! It definitely didn’t disappoint! I didn’t want to put it down. I just had to know what was going to happen. I loved getting wrapped up in the investigation and trying to figure out who did it. I highly recommend this book! I can’t wait for the next one!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
Genre : Christian, Action, Mystery, Psychology thriller, slight romance, humor
My rating: 5 stars
Language: Clean! (There is mention of someone “swearing”, but they do not list the words)
Age Range: 15+
Content: Killing, fires, death – actually, it was mild compared to the first one.
Favorite Character: Kaely Quinn and Noah Hunter
Conclusion: It was fantastic! It was suspenseful and kept me turning the pages, just to see what would happen. Must read for those who love suspense and action, mixed with psychology. I was able to mostly figure out who did it, it was the why that I wasn’t sure on. It still was good and I highly recommend this book!
Book was from Netgalley for me to review. All opinions are my own and this is my honest review.
This is book 2 of the Kaely Quinn series. I would suggest reading the 1st book, Mind Games, first to get to know the main characters Kaley and Noah. Kaley is an unorthodox FBI Agent who gets caught up in an investigation into an Arsonist who is burning houses and killing people, in a town where she is visiting her sick mother. Her methods are a little unusual to say the least and not always acceptable by the folks in charge. I love Kaely although she seems a little weird at times. I thought Mind Games was the best book I had read in a very long time so it was hard for this one to live up to it. At times I thought it was a little slow moving but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like it a lot. It has a hint of romance along with the suspense and a surprise at the end. I recommend this to any one who loves Christian Mystery/Suspense and I am looking forward to book #3 in 2020. I was given a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
Life is cold in this chiller/thriller by Nancy Mehl. Fire Storm, #2 Kaely Quinn Profiler Series, takes place mostly in a town called Darkwater. It is winter, and as cold as winter can get. Relationships are cold, too. Omaha doesn’t want Noah and Kaely’s help. Kaely herself is having trouble dealing with the chilly relationships between herself and her brother and her cancer-stricken mother.
Conversely, it’s hot in town. Multiple fires lead Kaely and Noah to believe that arson is the cause of Darkwater’s destruction. Jason gets hot under the collar when Kaely puts her job before her family. Kaely feels the heat as the fires increase without a viable suspect. I raced to read this exciting, terrifying novel as quickly as I could. Only the need to function kept me from pulling an all-nighter to discover who really was behind the evil visiting the town. Mehl manages to tie up loose ends realistically and bring things to a satisfying conclusion…until she masterfully inserts a dangling issue that may create a cliffhanger for books to come. Faith, fear, trust, unbelievable tension, and the mind of a madman combine to make this a thriller you won’t want to put down.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. This in no way affected my opinions, which are solely my own.
I met Kaley in the previous book in this series, and what a smart, caring woman she is, and you can’t imagine all that she has dealt with in her life. This book does not disappoint, and we get a deeper look into what makes her tick, and wonder how she does what she does.
If you like non-stop action this book is constantly making you duck your head, and you will be guessing as to who the culprit is, right to the end, and boy was I fooled.
I love the way the author’s mind works and she keeps me page turning, with my mind trying to guess the outcome, but never quite guessing the total picture.
I am not so patiently waiting for another book in this series!
I received this book through Net Galley and Bethany House Publishers, and was not required to give a positive review.
Kaely is taking some time off to help her brother Jason care for their mother. When arriving in the little town of Darkwater she learns that the town is being terrorized by a serial arsonist. The local police doesn’t believe in this story and will not accept the help of the FBI. Kaely is looking into the case on her own time and when her partner Noah is coming to help her, she’s sure they will get to the bottom of the fires. Soon it’s not only houses burning down but Kaely’s life is threatened. Once again Noah has to stand by and see her endanger her life. But this time he won’t be quiet about it and Kaely has to make a decision which could cost her her new partner.
I loved the book. Kaely’s character is very complex and there is still so much to learn about her. I really hope that Noah is up for the challenge Kaely presented him with. Looking forward to find out where the story goes from here. Highly recommended.
Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl is the second in the Kaely Quinn Profiler Series. I really like the first book, Mind Games and in this second book, Kaely goes to visit with her mother who is in treatment for cancer. This second book has suspense and a case to solve, but there are also conflicts Kaely has with her mom. Her brother Jason has asked Kaely to put aside her hurt feelings in the fragile family relationship and come help him care for Marcie as she undergoes an experimental treatment. During this family crisis, Kaely gets drawn into a case of finding an arsonist in the town of Darkwater, NE. How many people will die before she can understand the motives and pull together a profile of the person responsible? I enjoy this series and look forward to the next book.

Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl is a thought process crime solving fires around Darkwater. I enjoy reading stories where the reader gets to follow the heroine, Kaely Quinn, as she solves a crime. I love reading the thought processes. It helps complete the mystery for me. I enjoy seeing them work through the information they know, and how they come up with a solution. While the story idea isn’t original, the hunt for the villain made me a little upset. Mehl explains pretty early on who the fire chief believes is the arsonist, and Mehl allows the story to lead that way. I would have enjoyed the villain being another character. I had another character in mind who I don’t believe most people would have suspected, and he fit the attributes of the arsonist also. But Mehl took the easy way out. While this element bothered me, the heroine Kaely Quinn is pretty heroic. I really enjoy her ability to talk to Georgie and the suspects in her mind. I do that sometimes when I’m plotting a character, so I understand her dilemma. Overall, Fire Storm was a well-written romantic suspense novel that captured my attention and carried a wonderful heroine. I can’t wait to see what drama Mehl places in her for the next novel.
I received a complimentary copy of Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl from Bethany House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my own.
After reading the first book in this series, Mind Games, I simply couldn’t wait to read another novel about the unorthodox, Kaely Quinn, FBI profiler! Tough as nails, Kaely, is as vulnerable as she is gritty…especially when it comes to her handsome, humorous partner, Noah Hunter. Although not wanting to get too close to him personally, Kaely knows no one better to confront a madman with than Noah.
I especially love the camaraderie between these two…as Noah seeks to overlook Kaely’s sometimes eerie methods of profiling the bad guy. I craved a deliciously creepy suspense and once again one of my fave authors of spine-chilling thrillers didn’t disappoint. I kept switching back and forth in my guessing game as to who the lunatic was, only to discover I was wrong the whole time!
Fire Storm may be easily read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend reading Mind Games first. Filled with wonderful, hair-raising suspense—it will help you to become better acquainted with Kaely and Noah’s personal history. A chilling “roller coaster of a ride” that will keep you guessing and madly flipping those pages…be sure to order Fire Storm today!

This is the second book in the Kealy Quinn series. It’s not necessary to read the first book in the series. But it would be helpful as the characters backgrounds are explained more.
Kaely is still trying to overcome what her father did years ago. The only way she know how to do that is be a bull dog for justice no matter the cost. In this book Kaely has taken a few days off from the FBI to visit her mother who has cancer. While there she stumbles upon a serial arsonist.
I recommend this book to every one who likes a great mystery.
I was given this book by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
An intense, thrilling suspense novel by Nancy Mehl. Fire Storm can be read as a stand alone novel, but readers who want to understand more about Kaely Quinn’s background will definitely want to read book one in the series, Mind Games, first. The romance thread in this book is very light, and the storyline focuses primarily on Kaely’s job as a profiler and finding out who is the serial arsonist. The clues dropped throughout the novel all make sense once the arsonist’s true identity is revealed. An enjoyable read!

Come along with a FBI profiler as she begins her second book in a series trying to pin down a serial arsonist. Kaely Quinn goes to Nebraska to help her brother care for her mother who has cancer and finds herself incredibly suspicious of a series of fires happening in the area, supposedly due to space heaters. Kaely knows better. She and her partner Noah must find the arsonist begore he escalates.
This reads somewhat like an episode of Criminal Minds; however, I missed book 1 in the series and found myself struggling a bit with this because it seemed I was missing a lot of back story. I also just couldn’t connect with this character. I do own the first book so maybe I can connect better when I read it.
*My thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book via Net Galley. The opinion stated here is entirely my own.
Kaely Quinn is one of the most unique and interesting characters I’ve ever read about. In Fire Storm we get to know her and her family better when she returns to Nebraska to care for her sick mother. When there’s a string of suspicious fires around town, Kaely questions whether they’re accidents like the officials have ruled or if there’s something more sinister going on.
I’m not gonna lie, the first book in this series was spectacular, one of the most suspenseful books ever. To say my expectations were high for this one would be an understatement. Was it as good as Mind Games? Not quite. Occasionally, things felt robotic and stilted, and the ending was abrupt, feeling a bit rushed. But in no way does that mean this was a bad read. I did, mostly, enjoy it. It was nice getting to see more of Kaely’s family. I felt like I was beginning to understand her better. And the mystery was good, keeping me invested and trying to figure it out alongside Kaely. I finished it in two days which is fairly quick for me.
Despite the few issues I had with this book, I still plan to continue the series. I want to know what happens to these characters. Plus, I just read the synopsis for the third book and oh my! Sounds like it’s gonna be a doozy!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
Over time, I have had the chance to ready many books by Nancy in the past and decided it was time to try out another story by her. This being book 2, I didn’t realize that this is merely a continuation of her life and job with the FBI.
She returns home to be with her mom and brother, but to be honest, more of the story was focused on the arsonist that was in the town of Darkwater. Just the name of the town was ominous.
Because I had not read the first story in this series I was unaware of the event that had happened prior, assuming it was discussed there. It sounds like Kaely has growing issues that she hasn’t hashed out herself, and each book builds upon that. It does make me wonder how many stories will be in the series, Kaely Quinn profiler.
There was one sentence in this entire book where it left me with a “huh?” On my kindle, it was chapter 48 and it was (to not do a spoiler here) when they came into contact with the arsonist. The sentence that had me befuddled was “Tell me had planned to give me what was due me.” I still can’t quite understand that sentence, whether a word was left out or something.
Anyway, because I had not read the previous story I couldn’t understand Noah’s presence in the story. In addition, why add the part of them in Omaha on a case, it didn’t add anything to the base story.
That said, I did enjoy the build up of the drama and the end uncovering as to what was going on. There was a twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting, so that in itself was a surprising bit.
All in all, I enjoyed the story and just wish that the end of the book didn’t end on the last chapter as it did. But… I guess it was the way of segwaying into Book Three.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
