A jaded warrior who doesn’t want to get involved + an irresistible she-dragon on the run.For centuries, the Guardians of Lisbon have kept shifter forces in check — dragons, vampires, and witches. Now, with their powers dwindling, they’re too busy to respond to a lone woman’s cry for help.Novice dragon, Laura Sampao, always knew her family descended from dragon shifters, but that power — or curse … shifters, but that power — or curse — hadn’t manifested itself in generations. She thought it would never happen to her.
Wrong.
Now, vampires are after her blood, and her last hope is a mysterious, jaded warrior who saves her from a brutal attack. But that’s just the prelude to a far greater danger, giving her no choice but to trust the infuriatingly gruff, handsome stranger who awakens all kinds of hidden desires.
Marco da Silva, heir to an ancient dragon dynasty, has been burned by damsels in distress before, and he’s determined not to get involved. But somehow, he just can’t resist. Before he knows it, he’s spiriting Laura off to his private island hideaway with his inner dragon vowing to keep her safe.
Why? Because his heart isn’t the only reckless force stirring in the shifter world — powerful enemies are on the move too, and they’ll stop at nothing to seize Laura — and take control of an entire continent.
Don’t miss Anna Lowe’s FIRE MAIDENS: Billionaires & Bodyguards series!
Danger lurks over Europe, where a ruthless dragon clan plots to seize power in the grandest, most glamorous cities. The guardians of old have summoned a new generation of shifter heroes to protect the castles, cathedrals, and cobblestoned streets of their ancestral homes — and to seek out the last of the Fire Maidens, women coveted by the dark lords for their royal blood. Those women are absolutely off-limits to the young warriors tasked with protecting them. But destiny, of course, has other ideas…more
Anna Lowe transports you to exotic locations with amazing shifters! It’s a perfect escape read… 🙂
Fire Maidens: Portugal is book four in the Billionaires & Bodyguards series and while it can be read as a standalone, I highly suggest you read all the books in the series in order. I personally feel like it makes the stories more enjoyable. This is Marco and Laura’s story! Laura knew her family was descended from dragons but thought the power was long gone. Marco is an heir to an ancient dragon dynasty who’s not ready for love.
As Always Anna has done a fantastic job writing a story with characters and places we love and want to visit.
I was completely looking forward to reading Marco’s story, and knew he was going to need a strong woman to test him and break down the walls he’s built – and the author truly delivered with Laura. When vampires start hunting her, Marco is there to save her. As Marco agrees to help her learn how to be a dragon, and to train her, his walls start cracking. Laura is a strong heroine, and proves herself. The Guardians of Lisbon are old and set in their ways, and it will be hard to get them to help.
What I loved about this book, is that the characters spent a lot of time as dragons, and the descriptions of their flights and battles in the air are breathtaking. This is a series that continues to entertain and I’m looking forward to Finn’s story in Ireland.

Oh, my goodness! I loved this book. Laura was a rockstar! I loved everything about her. Her spirit! Her tenaciousness! Her wit! Marco was a gem as well. The narration was great as well. Looking forward to the next book!
Disclosure: I received a free copy of the audiobook. I also purchased the Kindle version.
I was not disappointed. Marcus and Laura are wonderful together. When Marcus realizes that his behavior is causing more harm than good, he actually begins to think like the soldier he truly is. Even with his brusque behavior in the beginning, it is understandable as we go through Marcus’s thinking process. I liked that this story focused more on Marcus than the other stories focused more on the females. This one was more equally based, and helped to make the story more relatable and enjoyable. Once Marcus accepts that Laura is his mate, his personality suddenly takes a major shift. It’s like the wary soldier turns a switch off and becomes someone else or maybe the man he was meant to be.
Book 4 of Fire Maidens: Portugal by Anna Lowe
Laura is very new to her dragon, after finding a gem she shifts and make her way to Portugal where her heart says she needs to be.
One night a vampire attacks her and Marco comes to rescue and finds out a fire maiden has come to Portugal.
I love that Laura is very independent and not a push over and when Marco comes into her life he doesn’t make her feel stupid because doesn’t know what she doing but instead help her to be a better dragon and find the happiness she’s be longing for.
The narration for Anna Lowe audiobooks are amazing Kelsey Osborne has an amazing talent to bring each character our perfectly but still keep their individually and make each one have a different sound.
Can not wait for Fire Maidens: Ireland
It seems like I waited forever for this book to be released and when it finally did, of course I’m going to dive right in! I loved this book! The story continues with a lot of the same characters making appearances but a new couple and I feel these two are a power couple indeed. Perfect writing and amazing narration will take you for another fun filled ride and leave you blissfully happy in the end.
Laura knew long ago her family descended from Dragon shifters but with all the family members meeting with humans it hadn’t manifested itself in generations and it wouldn’t again. Oops wrong. Now laura had a crash course in vampires because they are after her, she she is in trouble she came to Portugal hoping to find someone to teach her about being a Dragon. Her only hope is a Jaded warrior but he is also a pain in the butt.
Marco is heir to an anclient Dragon dynasty and a dragon shifter. He isn’t to happy about having her around because he has been burned by a woman before so he doesn’t trust. His dragon sure does. Lol. His dragon will not let him do anything but keep her safe. Plus there is danger all around. It’s a good thing finn is there.
Ok you now know the two of them but not the story! The story is WOW. I loved the characters, the action, drama, mystery, and everything else the author put into this! An amazing adventure. I couldn’t put it down and didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait for the next book to come out I am so hooked.
Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it
Scattered over Europe the Fire maidens were coveted and threatened by dragons, shifters and vampires. Laura went to Portugal searching for answers. Just recently she had shifted, and it had brough mystery and danger upon her. She had become a target and needed protection and support to learn about her true nature. After his ex’s betrayal, Marco didn’t want to get involved with any woman, but Laura made him want things he never wanted before. The past had to be left behind but former enemies were still there waiting and threatening his mate and the established order. Interesting Marco’s struggle with his feelings and emotions. An inner battle he was condemned to lose. Good and strong characters, adventure, action, suspense, some amusing scenes, violence, romance and passion. Very informative Portugal’s descriptions and the language. Enjoyed this new installment of the Fire maidens with its magic and Paranormal.
Laura is pretty new to being a dragon shifter and looking for help. Marco is tired of a lot and just wants a calm quiet life. When these two run into one another, things for them might never be the same again. I really enjoyed this addition to the series. Laura is trying to figure things out on her, but knows there are some things she just needs help learning. Trying to find the right person to help her out is just a matter of time, or is her time running out?? I loved that Marco wasn’t so set in his determination to not get involved.
Wonderful Action Romance!
Laura is so confused. She has suddenly started shifting into a dragon, and she doesn’t know how to fly! And the landings! Or should they be called crashings? She needs help, and her shifting ancestors came from Portugal. Maybe someone there could help her?
So Laura goes to Lisbon, but instead of help, she is stalked and attacked by vampires and a dragon who knows what he’s doing! She knows she’s (literally) toast until another dragon shows up in the nick of time. But Marco is none too thrilled to be responsible for Laura and tries to palm her off on someone else.
See how Laura and Marco’s relationship evolves, and they figure out what the heck is going on. But for that you’re going to have to buy the book. Enjoy the journey! I did!
I just love this author. Anything she writes is well written and highly recommended. This series is wonderful, exciting, suspenseful, emotional, dramatic, and much more. She gets a surprise when her dragon genes that have been dormant come alive and she needs to learn about that. But danger comes calling so she gets him to help. He doesn’t want anything to do with women but for some reason can’t say no to her. May have to do with her being his mate. But can he protect her with so much evil coming? I received a review copy and voluntarily review it
Marco is back in Lisbon and he meets a woman who is being pursued by a vampire and a dragon and he knows these two are up to no good so he makes it a point to save the woman from them even though he doesn’t won’t to get involved he does but takes it out on Laura a young woman who has come to Lisbon to speak with the guardians but was told that they didn’t have time so she was trying to find some one to help her, so it would be up to Marco who took her to his home for her safety but was not as safe as he thought when their were others who wanted to get their hands on Laura for reasons she had no knowledge of. This is really a wonderful story line and the characters were really very interesting, adult content. I was given an ARC by the author as a gift without obligation. I am providing an honest review.
This is an enthralling fire maiden/dragon shifter romance & it was an absolute pleasure to read. It is the forth book in the series “Billionaires & Bodyguards” but it can be read as a standalone. The plot is well-written & intriguing with some suspenseful situations/events. The characters are interesting, well-developed & have strong-willed personalities although it takes some time for Laura to reach her full potential.
There is: a grumpy dragon shifter (Marco de Silva) comes home from the Foreign Legion wanting peace & quiet then he rescues a young woman (Laura Sampao) whose dragon genes have been dormant until now then the situation changes, friendship, various kinds of shifters, vampires, dragon shifters, a council of guardians, stalkers, fated mates, adventure, action, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, drama, deceit, devious plans, mystery, enemies, traitors, danger, threats, conflict, violence, verbal conflict, protectiveness, fear, distrust, complications, manipulations, confrontations, love, happiness, laughter, some steam & a wonderful happy epilogue. I enjoyed reading this book and would definitely recommend it.
You Can Return Home
Getting to know Marco was a real treat. He has been the quietest of all of the ex-legionnaires that I have wondered what his backstory was about.
Portugal is like a lot of the other bastillions of Guardians run by elders that have not evolved with time.
Finn makes an appearance in this story and he brings the hilarity to the story. Still waiting for his story with anticipation.
“Fire Maidens: Portugal takes the reader on a journey where evil vampires and shifters roam the streets to harm unsuspected citizens. The Guardian Council of Lisbon is a band of shifters who for many decades have been protecting citizens. The council’s power is failing, and now they seek help from a fire maiden. Inside, you’ll find awesome picturesque scene descriptions, witty flirty moments, fabulous character interaction, fierce camaraderie, life-threatening issues, suspense, action, sizzling passionate romance, and happy forever ending.
Laura a rookie dragon shifter, is in Portugal to seek help from the Guardians. She is in dire need of knowing the ins and outs of being a dragon shifter. Marco, a wealthy dragon shifter is recently home from the French Foreign Legion and is ready to relax and enjoy his free time. One evening he comes to Laura’s rescue when she is being chased by a male dragon shifter while in flight. He talks Laura into coming to his home for protection, and their journey to their happy forever begins.
Spectacular fast-paced thrilling storyline with praiseworthy characters. Marco and Laura’s romance is fiery passionate and, believable. I loved Marco’s protective nature and Laura’s fearless persona. Backstories give the reader more insight into the lives of the characters. The author’s vivid descriptions help bring you closer to the beauty of Portugal. The author does a fabulous job showing that letting go of the past, is pivotal in a healthy loving relationship. Relishing this entertaining read, I voluntarily reviewed a pre-release copy of this story via the author. I look forward, to the next Fire Maiden read.
I loved the descriptive imagery of the beautiful Portugal and Madiera. The way Marco was so gruff with Laura who is trying to gain her wings, dragon wings that is, was enough to push Laura into a bad situation. Their relationship grows as he teachers her to fly. She turns out to not only be an ally but also his mate. You will love this adventure. I received a complimentary copy and reviewed voluntarily.
Grumpy hero Marco is a pill a the start of the story, but is soon won over by Fated Mate Laura as his protective instincts kick in, with the help of his Foreign Legion comrade Finn. Once Laura got past a couple of TSTL moments, I loved her devotion to learning and training regarding her new gifts, and her building confidence as she comes into her power.
Anna Lowe has a gift of writing a sense of place and putting the reader in each exotic location she has chosen for this series, and after this book I want to visit Portugal and Madeira. As always I really enjoy that she imbues the shifter characters with charming and distinct personalities and voices from their humans.
Loved that this book has several strong female characters who are intelligent, insightful, strategic, and decisive and are a key part of the future of the world in these stories. Can’t wait for the next installment set in Ireland.
Portugal has never seemed so appealing until I read this captivating addition to the series. The scenic description just made me long for a holiday.
Marco and Laura “accidental meet” leads to a journey of rediscovery, questioning the norm of how the guardians operate.
Many interesting characters that made for exciting reading.
Marco is a reluctant hero and suitor to a maiden very much in need. He was hurt bad and just wants to be left alone. He can’t quite resist her when he sees how her safety is at risk and no one else is willing to help. She has a lot to learn after believing her family had no connection to shifters any longer.
The characters are well developed and I really liked her for wanting to do the right thing and help others. Once you learn more of his past, it helps you understand his initial reluctance to get involved and open your heart to him too. Their chemistry is very strong from the beginning and I felt the ending worked well.
I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.
