Fire in the Heart is a novella in the Metahuman Files universe and it needs to be read in order for maximum enjoyment.
I absolutely adore Alexei and Sean, they’re my favorite couple in this ‘verse, closely followed by Jamie and Kyle, but it was a delight to see them get married and off to their honeymoon. Of course, it wouldn’t have been them or a Hailey Turner book if trouble hadn’t followed them, now would it? LOL
This novella was chockful with humor, hot sexytimes between Alexei and Sean, Alexei being his awesome self and making me swoon, explosions and hopefully the promise of Liam and Oliver sometime in the future. *crosses fingers and makes puppy eyes to Hailey* Definitely a read you can’t miss if you’re a fan of this series!
I enjoyed Fire in the Heart. This wedding was a hard-fought prize for Sean and Alexei. Past experiences tried to tear them apart, but they came out of it stronger and more in love than ever. I love the differences in personality that Sean and Alexei have. They should not work, but they do. They complete each other in ways that only true love can. They accept each other as they are. They are still their own person but are MORE now that they have each other.
I laughed more than I would have thought possible with this type of book. Then I shed a few tears. Then I laughed thru the tears. The author took me on a mini rollercoaster ride of emotions with this novella, and she kept my heart in my throat, for one reason or another, throughout it all.
This author has a touch for giving raw, undiluted gore and chaos, but she softens it with raw, undiluted passion, which I thoroughly enjoy. And now she has given us this funny, sweet, touching wedding that shows the softer side of these strong characters all the while proving that they are, and always will be, the original Alpha Team.
The honeymoon takes a wide turn from the sexy times with which it started. The action and intrigue are intense and fast-paced, and the interaction with other metahumans and agencies is exciting. The author has drawn a lot of beautiful, interesting characters for this series. I am often on the edge of my seat, tense and fearful for them all.
I love all these guys. Getting to spend more time with the Alpha Team is a treat for me, and seeing Alexei and Sean get their HEA touches my heart.
I, as always, look forward to more from this author.
I adored this novella about my favorite couple. Alexei and Sean are finally married and ready to flight for a romantic honeymoon in the south of France (thanks to Jaimie). But while they were enjoying their time, an enemy from their last mission with the MDF show up (read it if you want to know who). Their honeymoon will take a new turn between sexy time, poker party, gun shoot and actions.
Hailey Turner give us a sexy and funny novella with good action scenes. She stayed loyal to her MCs, their tempers and most important their story. I had a good time to be with them again, Alexei is still sassy as usual and made me laugh out loud numerous times. Sean is still the perfect match for his troublesome husband, calm and thoughtful.
I loved this book and it helped me to take off my sadness about the end of the series, each novella about this series give me more time with them, like they’re members of my family (and they are).
I gladly recommend this short novella, it worth your time and your smile
I had so much fun reading this story! All through the series, Alexei grew on me – his gruffness and unabashed attitude made me love him so much! All was calm before the storm. Even though the events leading up to their wedding and the wedding itself were smooth sailing, Sean and Alexei found themselves in the middle of the mission which wasn’t even their own. Poor guys! If Alexei got interrupted one more time, I thought he might set someone on fire! LOL
The wedding vows were so romantic! *le sigh* And the author recounted all the characters from the series and who they were with which was awesome for me. Of course, Alexei stole the show every time with his sometimes inappropriate but in a good way humor and how tender he was with Sean. And Sean in return was just as caring. I loved their teasing and all the affection they showered each other with.
It didn’t hurt that both men caught in on some action provided by HRH Liam aka Knight. It was every bit as fast-paced and thrilling as I know Ms Turner can make it. Plus Alexei’s accent was drool worthy. I loved this novella to bits! I highly recommend it! Copy received for my honest and unbiased review
Chaos, mayhem, and a honeymoon (an audio review)
What happens when two metahumans from Alpha Team want to get married? Well, chaos and mayhem, of course. The story begins with the bachelor party and all the members of Alpha Team are there. We move to the wedding and everything is progressing smashingly. But I knew it couldn’t last.
Jamie is paying for the men’s honeymoon on a luxury gambling resort named Fortuna-sur-mer. And everything looks to be hunky dory until Liam shows up. Yep, that Liam. The metahuman from Britain whose grandmother is the Queen of England. He shows up with Oliver from MI6 and I realized this was the set-up for the next book where the two men will, so to speak, square off. Anyway, Liam arrives on the scene with news there’s a terrorist on the island. Well, of course there is. So, as I said, chaos and mayhem ensue. But in the mess, Alexei and Sean come even closer together. Their bond solidifies. They are a true team. And Alexei makes a bet Oliver and Liam will get together.
I enjoyed this novella as it brought my two favorite characters even closer together. I mean, they had a mirror brought to their room. Sexy times indeed. I’ll mention Greg Boudreaux’s narration. He was made for this series and always hits just the right note. That and his accents are brilliant. So a good palate cleanser between the big books and definitely worth a listen.
Fire in the Heart is the last book in the mini-novella Metahuman Files: Classified series but it’s really book 5.6 in the Metahumans Files series. This book should not be read on its own and is best read after In the Requiem (Metahuman Files book 5) and before In the Solace (Metahumans Files book 6). Reading New Horizons (Metahuman Files: Classified boo2/Metahumans Files book 5.5) is not necessary, but I still suggest reading that one since it’s so good.
Finally Alexei and Sean get married in a beautiful ceremony that fit them so perfectly. However, trouble follows them when they go on their romantic honeymoon, and even in the middle of paradise, Alexei and Sean must fight as Alpha Team. Although this is a short novella, Hailey Turner does a fantastic job of packing it full of emotion, romance, incredibly hot sex, and intense action. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and fully recommend it.
I read this book for the second time as an audiobook and it was just as fantastic as an audiobook as it was in print. Greg Boudreaux, who narrated the book, is a fantastic voice actor who has a real talent for bringing the story to life. I really enjoyed his performance and thought the overall audiobook production was well done.

A fantastic taster into Hailey’s Metahuman world!!!
This was my first read of Hailey’s Metahuman sci-fi series and I loved it! It can be read as a standalone/established couple read but obviously many other couples are mentioned and their team/found family is present and mentioned throughout this novella that would probably be better enjoyed or at least allow for a better understanding of the intricacies between all the characters and their team role better if I had read the previous books. That being said I loved this story and all the characters and now am desperate to go back and read the previous books.
I loved Alexei and Sean and enjoyed their wedding and interrupted honeymoon. I enjoyed the interaction between Alexei & Sean and Jaime & Kyle and their team/family dynamics. I enjoyed the honeymoon’s interruption and thrill Hailey loves to inject into her writing and now I really need to know what happens next.
A highly recommended novella that is a great addition to the series or the perfect taster to enrapture you to Hailey’s Metahumans Series.

This is a highly intriguing MM romance novella & although I have not read any of the previous Metahuman books written by this author, I will admit that I really enjoyed reading this one. I found the story-line quite intriguing & the plot was well-written & entertaining. The characters are well-developed & have a variety of traits and different sides to their personalities & are quite realistic with their expectations.
There is: two retired metahumans agents (Sean & Alexei) get married & expected a somewhat normal honeymoon on an island only to discover that an old enemy/nemesis (Bennett) has appeared to disrupt everything, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, humor, verbal banter, friendship, old allies & fellow metahumans, MI6 agents, adventure, action, threats, villains, criminals, danger, conflict, violence, memories, torture, some PTSD, attempted assassinations, terrorism, suspicions, suspects, abilities, electrokinesis, pyrokinesis, explosions, shootouts, apologies, desire, love, passion, steamy scenes & a very happy but interesting conclusion. I look forward to future books from this talented author & would recommend this book.
It would appear that Sean and Alexei just can’t catch a break. A wedding, a honeymoon, a whole lot of fire and explosions…what moment in their lives would be complete without those? There’s so much love, passion, and respect that these men have for one another that most of us die-hard fans of theirs are wishing they could have a bit of uninterrupted peace, and yet, if we’re really honest with ourselves, we’re hoping even harder that they’ll get to show off their own brand of badassery while they watch one another’s six. And here we get it all.
There’s something addictive about not just this series, but the couples in them. For me Sean and Alexei are honestly my favorites. All that they’ve overcome is immense and that they’re finally embarking on their kind of happily-ever-after is truly triumphant. But since there’re a few strings from their trials that haven’t been singed off yet, we get one of them here that pulls them from their honeymoon into something worthy of the action and crazy we’ve come to love from the series.
What I wasn’t exactly a fan of was that this ended up being an explosive non-ending to that particular string. Yes, this was absolutely exciting. Yes, I got more from characters I love. Yes, there were definitely some fantastic sexy times. But there wasn’t really an ending. It was more disappointment and frustration that one of their adversaries…well, I’ll avoid the full spoiler. I’m not exactly sure why this was the type of confrontation that was chosen to pull them from their honeymoon bed of insane hotness.
Speaking of that hotness, what I loved most here in this story was how that hotness wasn’t tempered, but increased by the emotional depth of it. Their tender, sultry looks were palpable and are absolutely the stuff of daydreams. This was everything. And if we put that with the fantastic writing on top of the action that is definitely edge-of-your-seat reading, it’s still a big win. It’s hard to stay mad at the non-resolution resolution because it just means that we’re not done with their world. When that day comes it’s going to be a sad, probably devastating day for me. Until then, I’m adding this to my re-read pile.
This is a quick and easy short story in the Metahuman universe. The characters are almost all from previous books, so there’s not really much need for character development.
* SPOILERS AHEAD *
The story starts off with Sean and Alexei getting married, and then being sent to a dream resort for their honeymoon by Jamie. Everything is going smoothly until a stranger approaches them with a message from Liam. Unfortunately, even though their identities are widely known, and they are no longer active agents, trouble has found them at the most inconvenient time. Ex-CIA Deputy Director Carter Bennett is on the island along with buyers for what chatter indicates to be the use and location of an off-the-grid Splice lab.
Liam and Oliver, an MI6 agent, are running the operation and ask the couple if they are willing to help or leave. Alexei wants revenge for Bennett’s betrayal and the injuries he caused, so Sean and he agree to help.
The action takes off from there: crashing high stake card games, chasing yachts…with a lot of phasing, fire, and electrokinesis along the way. But at the end of the day, our heroes are left with several highly wanted criminals, and disappointment. Liam and Jamie agree to split the cost of a new honeymoon locale, and the two MCs are bound and determined to stay in their room for the test of their trip.
Happy reading!
