Fire fae princess, Rhiannon, is about to choose her suitor from the other eligible princes, but her special night goes up in smoke when she’s double crossed by the person she trusted the most and offered up to the Dark Lord.
This was a quick one. Only eight chapters but it was a flash introduction into a vast, magical world with elemental fae, royal families, and an all-bad Dark Lord.
This story had a good premise, but I found myself stumbling a bit to stay engaged. There were a lot of characters introduced who weren’t essential to the story and a strange hyper-focus on Rhiannon’s clothing. I wish it focused on the action more and the development of the main characters. I wanted to see more of Braedon and Rhi’s relationship before their fall out, so that I could connect with them more and feel for them when the fighting broke out. The villain came in last minute, and his presence felt more jarring than shocking/suspenseful/dangerous.
Overall, the story left me wanting more in many areas. I know this the first in the series, so I hope the author adds those missing elements to the next books.
Interesting idea and set up. Super quick read.

This was a fun and unexpected quick read! Thus is the first book by Missy De Graff I have read but it was great! Dynamic characters, great world building and action for days.

This is the first book in the Rogue Skies book that came out last summer/fall. I did not realize when I bought that book that each book may be part of a different series. I just read this one. Disappointed because it is #1 in a series & there are no more books written. The story is nice but leaves you hanging. Not crazy when that happens.
Love the cover.
*Spoilers*?
I found the book unsatisfying and hard to maneuver through.
There were at least 2 or 3 places where the heroine would do one thing than in the next paragraph she would then be doing something completely different. The Heroines feeling towards, what seems to be her to be beloved, goes through a whiplash change after we finally get his back story from her. In the beginning we are left with no real reason why she hated him in the first place… or even that she would care or trust him with her “secrets”… which he knows… he gives her the creeps… what… she likes him and is pleased he knows her so well… huh…
“Secrets” seems to be her favorite theme… making it hard for the reader (at least this reader) to even keep track of why she is reading the book.
I am not even sure I know what the story is… Girl has “secrets” that make her desirable to the bad guy, she has a premonition(?). He lays siege and kills their kingdom’s totem (where did that come from). Bad guy rounds up all the people going to her heir ceremony to kill them. She tries to save them.. though i think she was just trying to get away… her 2 companions were trying to save everyone else… maybe. And in the middle of all of that, you finally learn her big secret… uh excuse me, bad guy killing your father and guests!!! Then she is off to the mortal world… The end… or rather wait for the next piecemeal set of paragraphs and chapters to see how she deals with the mortal world…

Wow! It was so hard for me to put the book down. I’m pretty sure I read it in one day. It’s about a princess named Rhiannon. Her kingdom was a attacked by the dark lord. How she was saved by her childhood friend Braeden. I can’t wait for the second part of the book, to learn more about Rhiannon and Braeden’s story. Why the dark lord wants Rhiannon? What happened to her mother?

Excellent read. Can’t wait for next book in the series.
By the midpoint of the story, it seems nothing more than the ramblings of a teen about to become a adult. From my perspective, the contents of this title are nothing more than a brief introduction or partial backstory with insufficient information to understand what has or will happen. More questions raised than answered.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.
I found this story to have lots of action and a fairly quick read. There were enough twists and turns to keep the story interesting.

This book has an amazing story to tell, but the writing style was a bit of a struggle. There were parts that seemed jumpy and inconsistent, like a change was made in writing but didnt get caught at other references. I didnt care for the writing style in which it was done, but putting that aside, the story itself was fantastic. I loved our FMC. Shes fierce and strong, and yet a typical girl with typical girl thoughts. The plot was decently done, though I wish there had been more backstory about Rhiannon’s big secret. It kept being hinted at but never told. All in all I really enjoyed this book, and read it in a matter of hours. I will continue the series for sure, because I need to know her secret!
The premise for this sounds really awesome and I love the cover. But ultimately it failed to deliver.
Rhiannon is honestly not that likable as a protagonist. She seems snooty and aloof, with no hope of really growing. Her feelings towards people seems fickle and I just kept rolling my eyes as she talked and whatnot. All of the rest of the characters were just… there.
The plot. Ugh it sounded so cool! A Dark Lord coming out of hiding after nearly two decades, Fire Glass that can’t be burned…
And all I got for about half of the book was “La la la I need to get ready for this princess coronation!” Sure there were hints to visions and a dark secret in Rhiannon’s past, but it was all disjointed and seemed hastily thrown together. Plus, these visions were just shadows so it seemed more like her imagination rather than actual visions. Once her “visions” came to pass, I went back like four times to try and match visions to happenings, which I couldn’t do.
Also, they are supposed to be elemental fae and there is really no magic to be seen? I would’ve loved some sort of training scene or maybe just a show of their powers. Instead, I got told that it was a thing until the climax started happening.
Plus, when bad things start occurring, someone just goes “Oh it must be the Dark Lord.” There is no background lore on him. Nothing that lets us know how he was defeated two decades ago or even that he had been gone for that long! It’s just told to us in the summary of the novel.
Once the climax happens things finally seem to be at least mildly fleshed out. I just feel like this entire story should fleshed out a whooole lot more.

Fire Glass is an action-packed novella. The story takes place in the realm of the Fire Fae, where politics is rampant, trusts betrayed, and a dark evil endangers a kingdom. There is also loyalty and hope.
Missy De Graff does an excellent job developing the characters very quickly and setting the stage for what might come next in this series. Princess Rhiannon is a feisty young fae who knows her mind and begins to experience the strength of and in her inner powers. She does not like being dictated to, yet she understands the responsibilities that come with her position in life. Rhiannon also has a secret that only her childhood friend Braeden knows and understands. He also has never stopped looking after her even though she stopped treating him as a friend. It is the day of her anointing ceremony, and her father, The King, drops some weighty news on her. However, things do not go as expected, and loyalties are tested and revealed. Sebastian, the guard, appointed and sworn to protect her, is a bit of a mystery until he is not. Her father’s adviser, Alden, is most loyal because of his ties to her mother’s family.
These characters form the basis of a tale with many twists, magic, action, and mysteries. They take you on an exciting journey and I can hardly wait to see where we end up. I look forward to the next story in the series.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and although short for my taste, it was a very intriguing story.
Magic, secrets, deceit and betrayal are the makings of this story and it was amazing!
