A self-deprecating witch with the unique ability to reanimate the dead.
A dangerously handsome warlock torn between being her boss and her would-be lover.
A six hundred year old English vampire with his own agenda; one that includes an appetite for witches.
The Underworld in a state of chaos.
Let the games begin.
Life isn’t bad for psychic Jolie Wilkins. True, she doesn’t have a love life … doesn’t have a love life to speak of, but she has a cute house in the suburbs of Los Angeles, a cat and a quirky best friend.
Enter Rand Balfour, a sinfully attractive warlock who insists she’s a witch and who just might turn her life upside down. Rand hires her to help him solve a mystery regarding the death of his client who also happens to be a ghost. Jolie not only uncovers the cause of the ghost’s demise but, in the process, she brings him back to life!
Word of Jolie’s incredible ability to bring back the dead spreads like wildfire, putting her at the top of the Underworld’s most wanted list. Consequently, she finds herself at the center of a custody battle between a villainous witch, a dangerous but oh-so-sexy vampire, and her warlock boss, Rand.

This series is light and fun. Sort of in the same vein as Undead and Unwed .
This novel had an interesting premise.
However, it was not labeled correctly. To call it XXX rated is being less than honest. This book needs a content warning. And an age warning.
It needs to be read with a filter to filter out the unnecessary mess that prevents the plot from moving forward.
When I first got this book (I bought the kindle version), I thought it was a YA fantasy book… I was wrong, it was definitely more chick lit meets fantasy than for very young adults. It’s got a smattering of rather sexy scenes in it and quite a few swear words… not that it matters to me of course. I’m a big girl, I can handle it ; )
The book was far better than I thought it would be. In fact, it was excellent. Beautifully written, the story flowed particularly well and the characters were just so cool. I did think it was amusing that almost all of the men in the book were mightily sexy, all smouldering good looks and a tad on the horny (!) side though. But I’m assuming that it was written like that on purpose, a bit tongue in cheek, if you get my drift?
The story follows Jolie Wilkins, a medium who discovers there is much more to her talent than originally meets the eye. In comes Rand, a gorgeous hunk of a man who isn’t actually a man, but a warlock. You can probably imagine the kind of things they get up to, and you’d be almost all right. Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble is a must-read. I would recommend it to everyone old enough to be reading this kind of thing!
An all time favorite in the paranormal romance category. The characters were like friends, I just had to know what was going on with them.
I love this book. I have completed the entire series as well as most every book by H.P. her writing is entertaining and when reading her series she has some great cliff hanger that leaving you waiting for the next book. I would recommend this book.
This book is a little darker than the cozys I normally read but I enjoyed it. Jolie is a psychic and is a little short on cash when a handsome warlock walks into her store asking to be read by her. Later that night, she is visited by a ghost who, the warlock later tells her, is a friend who was murdered. He tells her that she is a very strong witch and he wants her to find out who killed his friend. She accidentally brings the man back to life. An evil witch finds out about her abilities and will stop at nothing to get control of Josie including using a very sexy vampire to seduce her into bringing back her underworldly mennions.
DNF!
I managed to struggle through 148 pages when I finally gave up after discovering the author doesn’t know what the word divested means. So irritating! This was the last sentence I read in this book:
“The fiery dance of anger welled within me, my breathing shallow and irregular as I watched Rand pretend to be entirely divested in his accounting books. “
What?!? Divested? Let’s consult the dictionary, shall we?
~ divest
verb (used with object)
to strip of clothing, ornament, etc.:
The wind divested the trees of their leaves.
to rid of or free from:
He divested himself of all responsibility for the decision.
~
I should have stopped on page 115 when she used the wrong too:
“And what about insects, should I have been imagining them to?”
Um, that’s “too” H.P., please let Teri at The Editing Fairy so you can get it correct on the next release. Or maybe fire Teri and get a new editor?
And Jolie is always on hyperdrive. Every reaction is over the top. “My heart beating like a frantic bird in a small cage.” Okaaaay…
Also everything is a simile:
“Her chest went up and down like a ship on a stormy sea.”
“Like aloe vera gel on a sunburn, relief coursed through me.”
“Like a deer in headlights.”
“Like a rat gnawing away at my nerves.”
“The moon looked like a glowing orb amid the velvet darkness of the night sky.”
“Anger bubbled up like lava.”
Jolie isn’t a “self-depreciating” witch as stated in the book description. She’s an insecure idiot that needs a man to feel worthwhile. “As for being attractive, Christa insisted I was pretty but I wasn’t convinced. It’s one thing when your best friend says you’re pretty, but it’s entirely different when a man says it.”
Oh Jolie I could slap you! And every man in this books wants her. Rand the witch, Sinjin the vampire and Trent the werewolf all want her and think she’s hot. There’s probably more but I couldn’t finish this mess. She second and third guesses everything. She’s hyper jealous of her best friend Christa. And Christa seems to have no purpose whatsoever other than to talk about sex and tell her to “just marry Rand.”
Other things didn’t make sense either. She goes on a date with Trent to a fancy restaurant wearing a black sparkly dress that she recreated with magic, one worn by Jennifer Anniston to an awards show. Ok, nice. But Trent is wearing slacks and a sweater. He’s underdressed by a mile. Awkward!
Anyway, steer clear of this. I couldn’t finish it and won’t read the next one even though I got them both for free.
I really liked this book and plan to read more of this series.
I loved it
Read most of her book and recommend you do to.
A great time, I really enjoyed the whole series.
