An even sweeter woman would make life perfect.Bourbon loving Detective Stevie Jorgenson has never been described as sweet, and … described as sweet, and she’s not looking to settle down, but she’s more than willing for a hot night of fun with the tall drink of water that just walked into her favorite bar.
Mac and Stevie’s fling becomes so much more when prize thoroughbreds start dying days before the Kentucky Derby—including her father’s. When the killer shifts focus, they must depend on each other both professionally and personally in the desperate race to discover who is behind the increasingly deadly sabotage.
“This book was originally released in the Chandler County series as Missing the Spark. To better reflect the genre, the cover and series title have changed, but the content remains the same.”

Sam and Stevie was a great book. Kentucky and race horses are the theme. Horses are being poisoned and Stevie’s dad has a mare to be in the Derby has been poisoned. They meet each other in a bar and the attraction begins. Sam is part owner in the security business. There is a lot of heat, a beautiful dog named Ammo and action.
What a wonderful book. This is the second one in the Bluegrass Security series.
Stevie, a bourbon loving, pool playing, beautiful woman who is also a detective. Bad things start to happen around the county where she lives. Potential winners for the Derby horse race were being poisoned. One of the horses belongs to her dad. This greatly upsets Stevie, who loves all animals. She sees Mac at the bar with some of his friends and then their eyes meet and instant attraction.
Mac, the owner of the Bluegrass Security Co., is at the bar with his friends having a drink when he sees Stevie for the first time. Mac is setting up security systems for several of the horse owners because of the poisonings.
Sparks are flying between Mac and Stevie. Can they keep from getting burned up in the aftermath? Will they be able to solve the poisonings?
This is my honest opinion on this book. I cannot wait for the next one.
We are back with the members of Bluegrass Security, now in the main offices in Kentucky where owner Sam/Mac McKenzie meets a woman that will catch his eye . This woman is Detective Stevie Jorgenson, daughter of one of the areas well respected Kentucky Derby winning ranchs.
When horses start getting sick and some dying, both the police and Bluegrass Security are called in to investigate.
While we are wondering the whodunit of the poisoning, the relationship between Sam/Mac and Stevie is one of starts, stops , misunderstandings, and general rollercoaster.
Both the mystery and the relationship in the plot will keep you engaged as will the characters’ emotions, doubts and concerns.
Will the mystery be solved? Will Sam/Mac and Stevie find their HEA?
This is a quick read for an afternoon of leisure.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is the first book I read in this series and I loved it.
Both Mac and Stevie have been hurt bad in the past. That leaves them expectant. She is a smart detective he is a badass part owner of a security firm .They met, they click. The rural setting I find very attractive and I love the horses. The suspense is great.
I am definitely reading the first book too.

I purchased a copy of the short novel Bluegrass Security book 2: Finish Line: Stevie and Mac by PJ Fiala and this review was given freely.
When Detective Samantha “Stevie” Jorgenson and Sam “Mac” McKenzie co owner of Bluegrass security meet in the local bar the sparks fly. This is a suspenseful novella with Vivid descriptions,a hint of steam, some danger, an investigation concerning poisoned horses, and a rocky romance with a happy ending.
The second book of the series and it is just as good as the first. Someone is going around killing race horses. Stevie is a detective and Mac works for Bluegrass Security. When they meet it is explosive. As they work through what is going on between them they are in a race for time to solve the mystery of what is happening to the horses. Fast paced great book.
This is the 2nd book in this series, and is Sam / Mac and Stevie’s story. Mac is co-owner of Bluegrass Security, and while on a night out to a bar with his friends, he sees bourbon loving detective Stevie, and there is instant attraction between them. These two are total opposite yet so perfect together. This is a well written story which is filled with angst, suspense, love, and is a steamy read. I was intrigued and hooked throughout, and recommend for all.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a thrilling read. Sam (Mac) McKenzie is co-owner of Bluegrass Security. He and his friends go to a bar to celebrate the success of their business, Bluegrass Security. There he meets Stephanie (Stevie) Jorgenson. She is a detective for the Sheriff’s department. The two of them are immediately attracted to each other. In the midst of fighting their feelings for each other, Derby contender horses are coming up sick and dying. Who is poisoning these highly expensive animals? It is a question that Stevie works to figure out.
I adored the dual POV format that this book is written in. Getting into their thoughts really helped to understand their actions (especially near the beginning.)
I haven’t read the first book in the series but I will. Levi and Sage seem like a couple that I must read as well. I didn’t have to read it first to enjoy this story.
I recommend this book to anyone over the age of 18.
Mac and Stevie and great chemistry and their attraction is almost tangible. Bluegrass Security has an awesome cast of characters and their stories are co.pelling and sexy as hell. The story moves at a great pace and a tear or two was shed. The sex is off the charts hot. Love me some PJ Fiala. She never disappoints.
Finding who’s poisoning the thoroughbred horses
This is a wonderful story with Sam and Stevie. He retired from the military and is part owner of a Security Company in Kentucky, Stevie is a detective and her new case is finding who is poisoning thoroughbred horses and some were to be in the Kentucky Derby. They meet in a bar and sparks fly and before long they are working together to find whose after the horses. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This was the second book of the “Bluegrass Security” series and what a real page turner! The great character and storyline development kept me turning the pages and Sam and Stevie kept me totally engaged throughout the entire book!
This is the second book in the Blue Grass Security series and this time we get Mac’s story

But someone ids poisoning race horses and she is the local detective as well as the daughter of a local breeder as they are continually thrown together by the case they have to admit that maybe they want more than a one night stand but Mac doesn’t trust women and is still; carrying damage from what his previous one did to him Will he learn to trust again and do they have future together You will have to read to see
Mac and Stevie will have you on the edge of your seats with this nail biter! Mac is finally in a position of wanting to find his soul mate and settling down. She’s not looking to settle down but Mac is good for a one night stand but when things become so much more, their lives are thrown together when someone starts killing off thoroughbreds her father’s included and it becomes a race against time to find the culprits. When the tides turn and the focus shifts, will they be able to find out who is behind the treachery? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I couldn’t wait for this book to hit my Kindle! Mac and Stevie will knock your socks off in the chemistry department. Mac is the head of Bluegrass Security after retiring from a long military career. Stevie is a detective who is trying to solve a case where thoroughbred horses are being poisoned. They cross paths while she is on the case and sparks fly from there. This book contains suspense, intrigue and a bourbon of loving detective, what more could you ask for?! Will they let their guard down and trust each other? I can’t wait for the next installment of this series. I highly recommend this book!
Love Stevie and Sam’s story. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. I recommend this book if your looking for a fast read with romance and mystery. Can’t wait to read more from this series. I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review. I read this when it was Missing The Point.
An enjoyable second story in the Bluegrass Security series.
The chemistry between Stevie & Mac is off the charts but they have to work through some misunderstandings along the way. The suspense and intrigue in the book is very well written and keeps you coming back to find out what happened.
If you like good strong female leads, you’re going to love Detective Stevie aka Stephanie Jorgenson our female lead in Finish Line. The men of Bluegrass Security are now living in Kentucky and business is taking off. Sam aka Mac McKenzie and the rest of the team head to the local watering hole where a lady catches Mac’s eye. He and she have an instant attraction and decide to act on it. The problem is things don’t end well. They both have their own personal demons and neither plans on seeing the other again. Well this is a big county but a small community and as the local horse ranchers start having trouble they hire Bluegrass Security and that is how Stevie and Mac connect again. It is a bit of a roller coaster of a romance for these two but it is one heck of a fun ride! Mac has a jaded view of women and relationships and Stevie has been equally hurt by her past relationships as well. Finish Line is told from dual POV and gives a bit of a mystery mixed in with this romance. It isn’t necessary to read book 1, Heart Thief however I do recommend reading it as well.
Now this is the direction I usually head anymore when looking for something to take me away. This author does that with much more thanks to the characters and story.
Set in Kentucky was a plus being that was where my mother was from and have spent time there. Sam and Stevie carry us through this one with starting with that fling and going from there. Drama will rear its ugly head and the race is on to beat the killer. Sleuthing skills will have to be in play. Danger spikes the blood flow. You soon find yourself caught up to the finish to see where this goes and will the heat turn into something else.
Sam (Mac) is co owner of Bluegrass Scurity. One night at the bar he meets Stevie, they spend night together. They meet the next day, he is installing security cameras and she is visiting owner of the ranch with questions about horses being poisoned. Mac finds out she is a detective. They start spending more time together and trying to figure it out who is the person or people responsible for horse poisoning.
Loved this story, the characters.
