Loved the characters the story was great. Love prevails
Not how bdsm works and frankly it’s frustrating seeing it portrayed in such an abusive manner. This is grooming plain and simple
I liked this story of Banner and Kate. We often think we want something but what we need is a different story altogether. Kate wants to find a Dom but is so caught up in her need to control things and her independence can she truly submit to any man? Banner wants a 24/7 slave and isn’t willing to settle for anything less. Together they practically spontaneously combust but are so caught up in what they each do and don’t want that they miss what’s really happening. It’s not until they are apart the reality of their feelings for one another hits them both hard. Hopefully it’s not too late.
A Gorgeous, Darkly Rich & Deeply Touching D/s Story…
First off, anyone who dedicates their book to Jason Momoa’s eyebrows instantly grabs my attention.
Secondly, anyone who writes a darkly rich D/s, M/s romance, the right way, keeps my attention and earns my respect.
Lastly, anyone capable of writing an accurate, believable M/s story, with multifaceted, emotionally intelligent characters, and bravely written, realistic, tumultuous, angst filled scenarios, keeps my respect, thaws my cold, cold heart a tad, and earns my loyalty as a reader. Because let’s face it, there is A LOT of really bad literary kink in the world today, and much of it is really skewed and inaccurate, especially D/s relationships.
“Finding Master Right”, by the writing duo that is Sparrow Beckett, is the story of Kate, a strong-willed drug abuse counselor harboring an unacknowledged, deep seated need for submission. She thinks these needs are unexplored desires of being dominated in the bedroom, and unsure how to go about fulfilling her needs, turns to her friend Janine for help finding a Dominant (Dom). And Banner, a Master in search of a slave, who, despite his preferences and internal inclinations, is struck with an unexpected urge to protect the vanilla kink virgin Kate, after she is inappropriately propositioned at a Halloween party thrown by Janine as a roundabout way to introduce Kate to some Doms. Banner is struck by Kate, senses something hidden beneath her façade that sparks a long dormant fire within him, and offers to be her tour guide within the world of Doms and submission. And while he initially undertakes this training task because of his gut instinct to protect her and help her find a Dom appropriate for her. He is soon beguiled by the woman he recognizes as being submissive deep below her bratty and challenging ways, and is thrown into turmoil as he tries to reconcile what he has always wanted with what he now yearns for. What follows is a poignant and heartfelt exploration about what happens when people stop being suffocated by the confines of labels, search deep within themselves and admit their truths, follow their true heart’s desires, and create their own life together outside the confines of labelled expectations.
It’s a deeply touching story about Kate and Banner’s struggle to accept and acknowledge their deep, almost visceral connection to one another. It’s about them letting go of their fear, their own preconceived notions, and embracing what their hearts and souls are already telling them to be true. And despite it containing some rather disappointing, stunted shifts from chapter to chapter that often threw off the overall flow of the book. A choppiness that left out details I craved and was sadly left wanting over… It is a beautiful story, one that moved me beyond words with its care and attention to detail.
I was honestly surprised by this book as I have long avoided reading and reviewing books within the romance genre containing M/s scenarios. As one who lives within the fabric of this community it becomes difficult to be bombarded with the same sets of anger infused, violence tinged, emotionally stunted characters whose brokenness spark scenarios of dubious consent that somehow later turn into love, and be told it’s a romance story, because it isn’t. True D/s, M/s relationships are plotted, planned, and discussed, and are always, ALWAYS fully consensual. And in an already shaky world where dominate men are vilified and submissive women are shamed I applaud a set of authors strong enough to create a story such as this. One that showcases a lifestyle in a way people might choose to live it. A story that includes real aspects of the day-to-day nature of BDSM, one that illustrates not just the sexual side of it but also the emotional, practical, and yes, even the contractual side of it all.
Unlike others, which merely glorify the eroticism of the lifestyle, this book actually shows the people, and the real struggles contained within a relationship such as this. Yes it contains some gorgeously written erotic scenes. Yes it contains enough sexual chemistry to start a forest fire. But it also contains so much more, with its intelligently written, quick-witted characters and heartfelt plot.
Additionally, here Beckett gives the subject matter the teeth it deserves, supplying us with real-world scenarios, in addition to relatable individuals, ones with recognizable lives, real needs, responsibilities, and struggles. People who navigate their dominant and submissive needs within the realms of their world as best they can, and who are not merely caricatures of what popular culture thinks they are (or should be).
This book easily places at the top of my Sadt Cookie “Best of 2020” list, and I for one am now a permanent fan of Sparrow Beckett.
