**ARC REVIEW**
3.5/
So I’m a little hesitant on this one. I’m not sure if it was truly for me. I enjoyed the suspense for sure I think parts of Michelle just didn’t do it for me.
Michelle has been through a lot in life and is struggling on a daily basis even though she tries to hide it as much as possible. She seems to be very independent at times…
Trent has lost his family and needs to start all over again. By chance he gets to meet Michelle and instantly he’s protected of her and cares deeply. Learning Michelle’s past just puts everything in perspective for Trent.
Will Michelle be able to overcome her demons and let Trent into her life…. There’s danger around the corner… Sacrifices need to be made..
3.5 A story with so much pain and heartache. It’s a romance with so many obstacles and past hurts, but it’s also about creating your own family and healing.
Being sent away to prison by your own family is just unforgiveable. Especially when you were convicted for protecting them. Trent is getting out prison and starting over. He’s leaving his family behind and taking help from a stranger, Michelle. She was going to be his fresh start, he just doesn’t realize it yet.
Michelle was sent by her father to give Trent a little help to get back on his feet. She seems put together, but Michelle keeps everyone at arms length. She lives but she’s just going through the motions and hiding her pain.
These two are put through the ringer time and time again. Their pain was emotionally draining. Their pasts bring them together and they learn to confide and trust in one another. Their road is long and difficult. Their pain is palpable. Their constant struggles seemed never ending.
I did enjoy the side characters, especially Heller and Ethel. They definitely added to the story. Michelle and Trent shared an all-consuming love but they still struggled with real life. This is not your typical happily ever after. This is a love story wrought with ghosts of the past that will test the strength of your heart.
This talented author has the unique ability of intriguing and drawing the reader into her stories from the very beginning. Michelle and Trent’s story is emotional and heartbreaking, with wonderful secondary characters, and suspense, drama, angst, and humour. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this author whose work I highly recommend for all readers.
This is one of those books that KL Humphreys excels at. Trent and Michelle each have backgrounds that are truly heartbreaking, and they have to fight themselves to overcome those and to find enough peace to, literally, find home as a place within them, rather than a house or town. Never one to shy away from tough topics, Humphreys includes mental health issues, the nightmare that is depression, PTSD, and suicide. This is not a quick, easy read; this is a full-of-feels read that leaves you wrung out at the end. The prison stories and miscarriages of justice are heartbreaking, and, if anything, my favorite character at the end was Dustin – so read it if you want to know why.
I received an advance copy of this book and the review is voluntary.
I can’t say enough about this book!! From the very beginning I was hooked. The instant connection is my favorite kinda book and Trent and Michelle have that. When Michelle is to scared to act on it, Trent pushes through. When bad people step into michells life Trent and the rest of the complex are there to surround her with the love and protection she needs!!
Don’t miss out on this amazing book!!
Michelle and Trent have very similar familial backgrounds. They find each other just when they need each other the most. I loved the emotions portrayed in this book. The suspense was breath holding. Very well written.
Trent has been stuck in prison for the past 5 yrs, all for helping out his family, who never stuck by him while he was away. Michelle is stuck with trying to move on from the past. When Trent gets out of prison Michelle is there to help him get back on his feet, but the Sparks fly between them as soon as they see each other. They both need someone to lean on, and they both need someone to help deal with the past. When situations arise where Michelle needs help Trent is there to protect her. Loved this book, loved the characters!
Wow what a amazing dark read that will show you that someone will have your light. This is a dark ride that will show you that someone can love you and find ways to take care of you. Their is so much emotion through out this book that it will grab your heart and have you crying and warming your heart at the same time. This is a must read book that has a little mysterious life to it.
“You know baby, I met you at the gates of hell, and you brought me home.”
Finding Home will send you into a whirlwind of emotion with this overwhelmingly beautiful story. It’s sweet yet intense, tragic yet cheerful, and like its characters, completely endearing. Author K.L. Humphreys perfectly personifies the statement, “home is where the heart is” in Trent and Michelle. Aptly named, this book is about finding one’s place in the world within the heart of another.
In addition to a perfectly sweet love story, Humphreys also gives us complicated and real, as our characters deal with life’s struggles, mental illness, and coming to terms with the past. Both characters are walking contradictions. Trent is protective and tender yet aggressive and quick tempered; Michelle is kind and engaging, exuding strength, yet guarded and damaged. Character development throughout is where this story excels.
I did feel that some areas of the story were repetitive or expressly drawn out, which in my opinion weren’t needed. Overall Finding Home is a lovely and compelling book worth reading. Enjoy xo
***This book does contain various triggers which may be upsetting to some.
4 Cranky Stars
Trent and Michelle have been dealt a life full of tragedy. He’s serving time for assaulting his sisters’ abusive husband and well she has been abused at the hand of a so-called family friend for it to end in tragedy. When Trent is set to be released his cellmate Dustin gives him the name of a woman who will be waiting for him. She will give him an apartment and a job. He wasn’t expecting an angel that was Michelle. She breathed new life into him and gave him a chance and he in turn sparked happiness into her sad sheltered life. Michelle is just trying to deal with her guilt and her dark thoughts yet she finds herself leaning on Trent and letting him in. Life isn’t all roses there is a lingering presence that neither one of them can’t shake and his name is Ric. Something is off about him and after a serious of mysterious events unfold, they know the past is coming to the present. Trent will do anything for the girl he loves, and he does with the help of her chosen family.
This book has a lot of themes mainly depression and suicide and abuse. It’s about doing what is right despite the consequences. Michelle and Trent did kind of fall in love quickly, but I think that is what they both needed. I liked that some of the tenants in the apartment that Michelle owned were her family. She was very closed off but also very friendly and trusting. I loved Trent despite being a felon he had a huge heart and all he wanted to do was protect the ones he loved. My only real complaint is that the ending seemed to drag. I understand that we needed to get Michelle back to a good place but it kind of seemed to just go on and on. Healing had to take place sure but all in all I kind of felt myself saying ok we know. Don’t hate me just my opinion. This story has a lot of heart in it and dark elements but all very true things that many deal with on a daily basis. I think with some cleaning up this story has great potential.
This story is about Michelle finding herself, trying to keep herself together after tragedy when she was a teen. She has strong determination, love by her friends and neighbors. She has suffered loss in her.life , that she has a hard time getting.over.
Trent enters her life after being released from prison. She gives him a chance to make it back into society. His concern, would he be accepted? will he find happiness? Will Michelle and the people in the apartment building, trust him?
Steve Campbell and Sarah Puckett are excellent narrators, they told the story with so much emotion. AudiobookObsessionReviewer
Finding Home
By: K.L. Humphreys
Narrated by: Steve Campbell, Sarah Puckett
My first KL Humphrey’s book and I was drawn in and captivated by this story. It’s not your typical love story, but deals with real life issues compassionately giving awareness to important problems. We meet Trent, fresh out from a 5 year jail sentence is off to watch out for Michelle. Michelle, the daughter of his cellmate has a lot of issues, and a guardian angel is just what she needs. And from here, a beautiful relationship begins. But will he be able to fulfill his mission? Humphreys weaves a tale that is a little dark, has some triggers, but is on point with so many relevant issues. From rape, to stalking, to murder, we have a line of suspense that keeps you on the edge. Inside this, we get to see the history, the breakdowns, the heartache and guilt that is carried. It’s emotionally raw, and beautiful all at the same time. I love books that give us awareness to current problems, and let us learn while being entertained. It’s a gift that I love. It’s a fantastic story of coming alive, learning to forgive and giving love.
The narration of this is key. It needs narrators that can understand the depth and minds of the characters and the casting of this is impeccable. Steve Campbell shines as Trent. He is a little rough around the edges, but Campbell lets his tenderness and love come through. Sarah Puckett is a master at getting into character, and she pulls all the stops with Michelle. The pain, the guilt, the love all are present in her performance. This is an emotionally driven story and these two brought it all to life with their amazing portrayal.

Finding Home
By: K.L. Humphreys
Narrated by: Steve Campbell, Sarah Puckett
Wow, this a fantastic book, the story not only grabbed my attention, it grabbed my heart as well. K.L. Humphreys is a gifted author, she created interesting and original storylines and her characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. I adored the two lead characters, Trent and Michelle, each grew up in a dysfunctional family and had their own inner demons to deal with. Trent attempt at trying to protect his sister cost him five years of his life and his family. He had nothing but then an unexpected friend helps him out and has someone set him up with a job and a place to live. That someone was Michelle, she owns an apartment building and needed a handy man and was asked to help Trent out. She winds up getting more than a handy man, she gets someone who gives her a new lease on life. She has been living her life without really living and Trent draws her out of herself, has her open her eyes to see what she has in life. This is a will written book that is beautifully plotted, the story contains a lot of heartfelt and emotional moments, some heart-rending and gut-wrenching ones too. I loved how everything plays out, how the author brings up the past, brings the past into current times, also loved the surprising and unexpected twists. She also did a great job covering mental health issues, keeping it all real. In addition to a whole lot of heart in this book there is plenty of drama, some mystery, some thrilling suspense and a wonderful romance. I thought Trent and Michelle were perfect together and for each other. These two overcame so much, it shows you that you can not allow an incident or a mistake define you or run your life and ruin it. K.L. Humphreys, thank you for the wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Steve Campbell and Sara Puckett are awesome narrators and versatile voice artists. They brought these characters to life, humanized them, giving each their own voice and personality. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they capture the characters emotions and project them into their performance. Steve Campbell played Trent’s role with perfection and Sara Puckett did the same for Michelle, they took each role and made it their own. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this awesome listen
5 stars for Finding Home by K.L. Humphreys. This is my first book from this author but I can promise you it will not be my last. This book is more than your typical romance. Humphreys touches on some sensitive subjects like suicide, stalking, murder, and being a convict. It is talked about in a real way, not glossed over like some books I’ve read. Trent is being released from a 5year prison for has assault, a crime he never should have been sentenced for. His cell mate Dusty sets him up with a place to stay and a job with Melanie/Mel. Mel has an apartment complex and is helping Trent out. She is instantly attracted to Trent which is new for her. Trent is shocked that a woman like Mel doesn’t judge him. Mel has struggled pretty much her whole life. Can she let Trent in? Can she share her past with him?
“Whatever has happened to her it doesn’t mean she’s broken, it means she’s yet to find the person who can fix her. I want to be that person.”
What happens when someone won’t let Mel go. They want her and will do anything to get her.
“Baby, you own me body and fucking soul. What you described is exactly how I feel. I walked out of hell and straight into heaven. I found my home with you, and I’m never leaving.”
This book is not just about romance. It is about redemption, not judging people, and learning to accept who you are and your past. I would consider this book a romantic suspense at its finest. The cover of the book is what instantly drew me in. I loved seeing these two on the front , who at first glance look perfect but so different at the same time. It made me want to find out more about them, so I knew this was a book I had to read and I am extremely happy that I did. If you love a book/romance that will stick with you , that Mel and Trent’s story is one for you. I laughed, cried and experienced so many feels while reading. I loved it , great work K.L. Humphreys. I am looking forward to reading more of your work.
I love the message of Finding Home. Life gets you down- at times it runs you over while you’re down but whatever it does to you, make your way up again. Lord knows it’s hard to, especially when you are feeling alone. Even if you feel alone, in most cases you aren’t truly.
Here in this story, that is the truth. It doesn’t start that way. A harrowing start for both the the main H/h breaks your heart as you learn of it.
It’s a gripping tale with a beautiful message. Lots of triggers possible here- rape, murder, abuse, neglect, stalking, deceit, burglary, prison, suicide,& more.
*I received a copy in return for an honest review.
This book has the perfect title. Trent and Michelle have a beautiful story to tell about finding your home which truly in not about a place but a state of being.
Both of these characters have hearts of gold. What has happened to them caused an assortment of feelings. I love how this author didn’t make it about instant forgiveness when they are dealing with those who did them wrong. It just felt more realistic.
A LOT is happening during this read so be prepared. It is a busy story with moments of angst, naughty, and drama. So pay attention (haha).
Trent is not only nummy but his protectiveness is endearing especially if you realize that aspect of his personality in combination with a temper did not always serve him well. EEEK!
Michelle is a combination of giving and cautious. You just have to read the story to know what I am talking about.
This read has a full cast and I would be amiss if I didn’t mention that I am hoping for some future stories for those characters I fell in love with (wink).
LASTLY the cover of this book is one of my all time fav (sigh). So beautiful. Happy Reading!
This book had every heartstring pulled! K.L had me attached from page one. Life differences happen, people help others that are struggling and most of the time you come out better in the end because of the people that you have and keep in your life. I would recommend this book to would like a bit of romance, and suspense. Very well written!!
