I do not read a lot of biographies because I am not always very interested in the lives of others. It has always seemed a bit voyeuristic reading about the lives of living people in particular. I can count on one hand the number of biographies I have read. I read this one particularly because I have followed what has been done to this couple from the announcement that they were dating to this very day. I wanted to get an idea of why and how things seemed to get so out of hand. It gets 5 stars for pushing for truth and integrity instead of lies and hate-mongering.
If you go into this expecting major revelations then you will be disappointed. This is not intended as a tell-all or reverse smear campaign against those who bashed them. This is about setting the record as straight as can be while still maintaining a sense of personal responsibility. This is not a counter to the trashy novels which have come out which merely continued to bash the couple and continue their agenda of smearing globally. I would also say to avoid the one-star
reviews which are also a part of the wider agenda by those who have a bias against the subjects of the book.
I like the overall set-up of the book and can feel the differences in which the author had input into what as it was written. Each chapter is a self-contained capsule dealing with an individual idea or situation. For instance, we get to start with the first dates after they are set up and move forward in time from there. The extra information regarding what happened around their personal lives is great but we also get some insight into those nasty headlines and the people who helped to keep the hate and ugliness going. As I said above, there are no major revelations but there is still good fleshing out and debunking of a lot of the salacious and sensational articles which have been written over the past years about the couple.
This is not perfect because there are several issues with missing words, the wrong word, and grammar pretty much throughout the book. They needed a good proofreader. I do the same thing because my mind is moving faster than my fingers and I am sure I caught everything I had in my head, so I always cut a little slack when I see it. It was not as distracting as it could have been though. The jumping around in time was distracting the first time it happened but you get used it. When talking about one thing they will segue into a past situation that is connected to one or the other.
I enjoyed the read and I have a great deal of respect for the authors, particularly Omid for taking the time to try and set the record straight even at the expense of being bullied for doing so. We got some information that was withheld originally, though I wonder if anyone noticed that some tidbits were revealed. For those interested in the subject matter this will be a good read, for those not so interested but who need to purchase to malign it is what it is.
Maybe not a masterpiece but well worth the time and effort to give it a listen or read. I have three ways of doing so, and it has a great place in my library.
Reads like a wishy washy romance novel. Nothing of any substance. Filled with exaggerations.
I really enjoyed this book about Harry and Meghan. Almost all of the incidents mentioned I remember reading about in the news and always wondered what the true story was. I would be interested in a book focused on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge throughout these years as a companion piece.
While I wish things had turned out differently and they became the fab four, I completely understand the need for separation and a step back from the royal life. I will always be fascinated with the royal family and will want to know more, but I know we will never fully get the truth.
I found the writing in this book to be infantile at best. It reads like a teenager who follows around the popular girl in school. It took me months! Months to finish this book. Which says more about the authors then the subject. I went into this with some trepidation but with an open mind. I’m sorry but I found the writing atrocious.
I admit it. I’m a Harry & Megan fan and I admire them for striking out on their own and using their platform to help the world.

Petty complaints from spoiled adults
I admit, I’m one of those Americans who finds themselves endlessly fascinated by the royal family. There’s just something enamoring about the history and glamour of the institution. I have admired Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for the work they’ve done, both within the family and now outside it, and I loved reading more about their life, from their unyielding focus on humanitarian work to the genuine sincerity of their love story. I can’t speak to how accurate this book is – by all accounts, it is written with significant research and input from the royal couple themselves, but there are moments where it’s unclear whether the suggestions are speculative or fact – but either way, it makes for an engaging and endearing read about a couple that has rocked the royal boat.
An amazing true story.
Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand deliver an evocative commentary in “the making of a Modern Royal Family” with their keen observations of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the royalty biography, Finding Freedom.
The cooperative narrative draws “on hundreds of hours of conversations and interviews with more than one hundred sources (Finding Freedom, Authors Note),” potentially compromising boundaries in royal protocol, which at times the narrative reads in such a personal and private nature, the authors effectively place the reader in the couple’s life from their first meeting, various travels, engagement and wedding day celebrations, the birth of Archie, their role as working royals; and an all-important meeting with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Prince William.
The conversation personalizes this accounting, but is also suggestive, leading this reader to wonder if Harry and Meghan participated in the writing of this book, either knowingly or unknowingly. The narrative in “the book” sometimes feels as if too-close associations are being revealed, as the authors disclose private meetings and communicated knowledge that perhaps should not have been published in such a bookish manner, especially in a disclosure of Prince William, Prince Harry’s brother. However, Finding Freedom seems like an honest exposition of a couple’s struggles within the monarchy’s structure while enduring unjust criticism from media sources and Meghan’s own distant family.
I enjoyed reading this thoughtful and well-written novel. While I ponder the novel’s true motivation, the queen’s released statement holds notable value: “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.” One might reflect on the queen’s wisdom while also being supportive of a royal couple who hopefully will find new meaning for their lives within their newly found freedom.
Omid Scobie and Caroline Durand have written a biography on Meghan and William that would put a smile on Princess Diane’s face if she were with us today .The authors write of Bishop Curreys sermon who quotes Martin Luther Kings words at their wedding We must discover the power of love , the redemptive power of love .And when we do that ,we will make of this old world a new world But love , love is the only way This compassionate couple serves many wonderful charities ,Among them one for veterans ,animal rights ,mental illness and addiction .Through criticism ,threats and lies they remain strong for one another. The name of this book The making of a Modern Royal Family is the perfect name for this couple who understands the meaning of serving rather than being served .
CLEARLY “GHOST WRITTEN “ BY MEG/H, WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY
