Okay, so this is the second book in the Bill Hodges Trilogy and, to be honest, it wasn’t AS good as the first one was, but it was definitely still good.
The story actually starts off really well. It’s interesting and captivating, but then it actually slows down a bit. Don’t get me wrong, it was still very interesting, but I feel that it was actually a little anticlimactic.
It is also told from several different points of view, which can get hard to follow at times, but I feel that it also gives you a better understanding of all the characters and where they are coming from. It makes them more rounded and easier to relate too.
The book starts off with us meeting John Rothstein, an old/retired author who was also kind of a shut in. He was woken out of a deep sleep by three punks who had come to rob him. Well, two of them had come to rob him, the third one is pissed at the way he ended his famous “Jimmy Gold” trilogy. So upset, in fact, that he shoots the old man in cold blood and steals everything out of his safe, including more than a few notebooks where it was discovered that he had continued writing even after disappearing from the public’s eye. Those notebooks becomes everything to him, and he can’t wait to actually read them, they become almost an obsession. However, before he can discover what’s hidden behind the pages, he gets sent to prison on a rape charge and thinking about those notebooks is the only thing that gets him through.
All that happens in the beginning of the story. If you want to know what happens, definitely check out this books. Not one of Mr. King’s BEST, but definitely still an interesting read.
4 out of 5 stars!
When Stephen king writes realistic fiction he is one of the best. His characters are vivid and believable.
Bill Hodges returns in this trilogy. It was hard to stop reading. A great suspense thriller with great characters. You will not be disappointed.
It’s King…enough said 🙂
The man has had me hooked for years!
Very Stephen King!
This book was a fast read started in the AM and was done by the middle of the night…it kept you on your toes and was a real page turner I throughly enjoyed this book …..if you have not read it go get it now yaaaaaa great read as is all of his books
I freaking LOVE Stephen King I have ever sic I was 9 and all of his books are amazing I recommend this book because it’s like a TV show that you are watching, you just can’t stop reading until the book is done and it is the same for a lot of the Stephen King books.
This book is better than the first book of the series. It talks about the joy of books and the effects it can have on people good and bad. Other wise it was an average thriller, very well written by King. I debated between 4 or 5 starts.
King is back in this awesome trilogy. The best I’ve read by him in 20 years. Great characters, believable story, lots of twists and turns.
I so enjoyed the Characters and the suspense..
